I was 16!! from Bklyn, . you could go to club with no I.D. ..NYC was unreal!! . before corporations took over and giuliani.. it was artist musicians and the creatives who ruled it ..I wish I could take you guys back then it was so much fun..smh NYC now is unrecognizable..
Now you have to move to Los Angeles and go to silver lake and east Hollywood the place to be and be scene the underground music and fashion scene and the birthplace of the modern multicultural hipster...

nelson feels so vibrant here in a way we don't see in many of his other videos. it's really interesting how certain contexts can pull something out of us we don't normally put on display. he lived such a full life and i'm so glad he recorded as much as he did.

I was one of the only straight girls in the clubs or at parties. Lol. I never once felt out of place or like I didn't belong. I can relate to so many of these videos. I was wondering the same thing. I just came across a documentary on youtube 'Club Kids in the 80's', and saw that Michael Alig and Freeze murdered Angel Melendez in 1996. What a trip- Nelson, Freeze, and and Michael all knew each other and partied together. Kind of sad though that many Club Kids fell into drug addictions over time and drugs/drug debt was the cause of that murder.
i will never forget the moment i found out you died, after years of letters back and forth, and conversations I will cherish forever.... it was my birthday 3/3....and I was trying to show a couple of my friends a glimpse into the NYC club scene and tell them about you, and showed some film, and my buddy must have googled your name.....on my birthday, on acid, I found out about your death, your overdose.... i was crushed.
I love these videos and I love Nelson and I don’t mean this towards him. I know they are all very much high on drugs so it’s kind of understandable but some of Nelson’s friends give off a bit of a narcissistic vibe. I wouldn’t trust most of them.
I find the culture to be over the top and quite degenerate. That said, I have been watching Nelsons videos for a while now, and he is an absolute southern gentleman gay man. He's got too much class for these people.
nelson’s friends were mostly very young and surrounded by a raging epidemic that killed so many of their friends. also the drugs. i dont doubt that they were bad influences but people forget that nelson was a GROWN 40 year old man and he made his own judgements

You know I am their age ,was in Vancouver,New Westminster and Seattle those years and there was the equivalent to the club kids averywhere .it wasn't,t so much the place it was a HAPPENING!no regrets.
