So I really liked this from a narrative point of view. Very refreshing! The rules for the scenario obviously need some work as the scoring currently is quite imbalanced (as we've seen), but otherwise a very cool idea and fun to watch :). As others have mentioned there are quite a few rule inaccuracies. I'll list some of them here in case nobody mentioned them (or you want specifics) and separate them by army. I'm sure I missed some, but hope it helps someone. Tyranids: -You can't deep strike (or generally arrive from strategic reserves) turn 1. I acknowledge that technically this isn't in the Core Rules, but it's in the mission packs. Many, including myself, think this is a miss on GWs part as it's core to game balance and shouldn't be repeated every single mission pack we'll presumably get. -The Parasyte arriving from deep strike needs at LEAST a 9 inch charge (as you need to deploy outside of 9 inches and every full inch needs to be be bridged on a charge to get within engagement range. If you roled an 8, you'd still be outside of engagement range) -You don't get Lethal Hits vs Boys and other Infantry as they aren't Monster or Vehicle (example Boys in t1), which are required for the Hyper Adaption. You mentioned this at game start, so I'm sure you just forgot in some cases. -A creature actually needs the Synapse keyword (not the faction ability, which all units have) for it to grant the benefits of synapse range to non-synapse units within 6 inches (for leadership, strats, etc.) -You got the battleshock rule doubly wrong. First because you don't roll battleshock at half strength, but BELOW half strength (so they were still fine. They'd have had to lose 1 more model). Secondly because you don't roll battleshock outside of your own command phase (unless triggered by another rule). -When you got wounded with 8 attacks on your genestealer unit with the broodlord, you would have had to roll them seperately. First roll dice until you fail enough 5+ so both Genestealer die and then roll the remaining wounds against the better save of the broodlord (who has a 4+ invul). May have not made a difference, but also may have saved him. It's strange that you did it correctly with the other unit later on. -At this point I was wondering why you never used your 5+ fnp strat (up to and including turn 2). It's insanely strong to protect vital units -You need to declare Death Frenzy when the enemy unit selects your unit (so not after it has died). Fair enough for handling it different for cinematic effect. -You should generally use Shadow in the Warp in your opponents command phase (After their regular battleshock tests, but before checking objectives). That way they are battleshocked for an entire round, instead of only your turn. -Regarding shooting the Deff Dread with the Exocrine. If it was within engagement range, you wouldn't suffer -1 to hit. You simply couldn't shoot it, because the Exocrine has Blast and Blast weapons can't shoot into engagements (even when targetting monsters or vehicles). Some exceptions exist, but the Exocrine isn't one of them. Orks: -You can't gain more than 1 command point extra via Grots (or any other ability) anyways. There's a strict limit of 1 extra per battleround (outside of the 2 points you get via the 2 command phases) -Spore Mines seem good for board control until you realize they do an average of1 mortal wound each ... which you can pretty much just ignore on your bigger stuff. Against most armies they won't even do 55p (their cost) in value if all of them blow up. -You are correct about needing 9 inches (NOT 8!) for a charge (as this is needed from being setup via deep strike or any other outside of 9 deployment rule), but you couldn't have used Ere We Go at that point, as it needed to be used at the start of the movement phase (not charge phase). That being said, you may have done so and simply not said it here, in which case ignore that part. -After killing the 3 hive guard, you may have wanted to consolidate into the last hiveguard of the other unit. -Wondering why you rolled one dice for all burners. You roll for each boy individually to see how many shots you get (Even from a firing deck). So 8 dice to determine number of shots ... not one die x 8. -I'm fairly sure that your Big Boss in Mega Armor couldn't have charged (or fought) the Haruspex that way since the Boys were in the way. He would have had to go around the other way. It's a minor issue though, as this could have been solved preemptively via better movement of the Boys. -You don't need to roll Shadow in the Warp for units in transports since they aren't on the battlefield. Both lists use questionable units, but that's fine in a narrative game and it's cool to see some of them at least once in a 40k game.
The 8 inch charge with the parasite out of deepstrike hurt my soul, lol. I know it doesn't matter, and the players don't care, but stuff like that is still painful to me. I want to um, actually them so bad. 🤓
@@AncientWyrm1775 Yeah I feel you. Of course they can play the game any way they want and they even mention this in some cases (I agree for example that in the case of this scenario it wouldn't make sense for the Trigon not being able to attack the Grots on the building towards the end). That being said, it's hard to tell which of these "mistakes" are intentional to improve their gaming experience and which are genuine mistakes. In any case I listed most stuff I noticed if they wanted to self-check or someone watching it may assume rules wrong because of this video.
In 10e, the core rules don't stop you from deep striking turn 1. The only place that mentions that rule is the leviathan mission pack, which as this is a narrative game, they're not using
@@Nobody-wg7xc Yes, I am aware that this is technically correct. That being said, a lot of people, including myself, think this is a miss on GWs part and should be in the core rules instead of a mission pack some people may not own or use as it's core to game balance. As a narrative battle report this is very fun and engaging and the scenario is fun but the amount rules that were incorrect is pretty funny too. Prolly made it more fun tbh! Great video!
I’m starting to get into Warhammer and this was the first game I was able to watch and understand what was happening. Thank you for explaining what was happening and what both of you were doing! I really appreciate it!
yeah, battleshock tests must be made in the player's own command phase, and all Tyranids have Synapse as a Faction rule, but not every Tyranid is a Synaptic Creature, so you have to check the Keywords to see if the unit is a Synapse one.
Indeed, max 1 extra CP gained per round. They made a lot of mistakes in this video (including a complete lack of understanding for when you need to do battle shock tests), but it was a fun video nonetheless.
@@MidwinterMinis The very, very first video on Warhammer 40,000 I ever watched when my friend dragged me into it (I thought it was a board game or something) was “Synthwave Tyranids Vs. This is a brilliantly made video, your style of editing for your battle reports are great. But what might be my favourite thing about this video is that it's just a casual game between mates. Not being anal about rules, not being sweaty, just having a chilled narrative game. Cheers, Guy!
Ant, you misunderstood how synapse works at 18:38 not that it mattered because of how well you rolled, but rippers and hormies have the synapse faction keyword (similar to all space marines have oath of moment), not the actual synapse keyword
If they didn't make the cards so confusing for no reason, people wouldn't make that mistake. Tyranids benefit from Synapse, everyone knows that, it doesn't need to be marked on the card.
Yesterday my father invited me to a tyranid vs ork battle. The 2 teams had 3k points, I was with my father and one of his friends. We made an army made out "epic" tyranids with a 20 year old version, it was something called cataclysm or sg similar. Tge issue was that we made small platoons instead of 4 bigger armies like the orks (mob boyz, speed boyz, and I believe the other big army was called the tank/blitz boys with only tanks. We agreed on a tie at the end of round 2 ( we had to leave as it was already 1 am, we started 4 pm, I had to learn all the rules there as I had no experience in tabletop, and the others havent played in 20 years). In tge 1st round they decimated like 20-50% of our army tanks to us only making small divisions and we lost every malee, meanwhile they had 7 tanks ( the 1 that can only carry 1 troop) and 6 infantry, meanwhile every time we attacked it they got support fire from 8 motorcycle riding boys. We had the issue that a bile titan only got 8 hp/wound or whatever you call it with 15 cm range for most weapons for 400 points meanwhile the orks got a huge ahh warmachine for only 800-850 points with d6+7 shield ( in our case 13 as they rolled 6 for shield at the beginning of thr battle), about 15 hp/wound a belly gun that obbliterates everything, and 5 more guns like 45cm and 35cm. All we could do is ignore it. Our lzck was that they always failed to give command to the blitz/tank boys as it had 20-30 tanks in both rounds and the mob boys lost malee against a squadroom of 4 hive tyrant as we armor saved 6 out of 8 and lost the intertwingled division of 4 small tyranid troops, dunno its name, and made the mob boys broken. The mob boys started with around 4 big boys with stompas and 40 other troops. We decreased their numbers to 15 at tge end of round 2 but lost all 4 hive tyrants cause we engaged with the broken mob in small arms fire and we missed both shots. Luckily our arty and 1 other division with 1 hive tyrant and 3 warriors were focused by the 800 point big ahh warmachine.
Am I missing something about the Burnas? I thought with a flamer-type weapon, you rolled the D6 shots per model, not roll one die and apply that value to each model.
You are correct, but I have heard of people doing that before, even if it's incorrect It's like rolling 1d6 for a fireball in DnD and just multiplying it by eight
Yeah, that would make torrent weapons ridiculously overpowered (and super swingy) as Guy demonstrates at 1:15:21 by using a command point to change 8 hits into 40.
I’ve never really considered playing the tabletop game of 40k until watching this video. I know it’s very expensive to get into so I probably won’t play a first game for a long time but this really opened my eyes to how fun tabletop gaming could be
Im confused. At 40:30 guy rolls for the ammonut of shots the burner boyz get. I thought you rolled one dice for each model and not one dice for the unit anf they all get the number of shots that was on that 1 dice. Can someone clarify please.
Pobably the first time I'm watching a warhammer battle without getting bored. Everything is clean and I apreciate how you are explaining the rules while playing (since I know very little of how to play)
Aaargh, that is brilliant- but Jeff is a classic hero from the very first Synthwave battles on the channel, and I’m glad he remains as unkillable as ever :) On another note, if I ever do a GSC Kill Team, would you let me use Eugene Stealer for a hero 🤣 our friends would love him
On page 11 of the core rules it reads: Gaining command points. Outside of the CP players gain at the start of the command phase, each player can only gain a total of 1CP per battle round, regardless of the source. Thievin’ Scavengers: At the start of your Command phase, roll one D6 for each objective marker you control that has one or more units from your army with this ability within range of it. If one or more of those rolls is a 4+, you gain 1CP.
Great video. Not played WH40k since 2nd edition (so glad you explained all the dice roll requirements and rules as you went!) but was enjoyable to watch. Hope you do more battle reports, time permitting, in the future.
why did the hormagaunts take a battle-shock test at the end of Tyranids first turn? don't you only do that in the command phase? or did one of the orks have an ability that triggered it?
Hate being "that guy" especially since you were losing anyway, but when you roll for attacks for Burna-boyz, you roll 1d6 for each model in the unit and if you use command re-roll on the number of attacks, it would reroll only one of those dice. Since you would have rolled 8d6, you actually might not have used a command re-roll if only one of them was a 1 but the rest were like 5's and 6's.
Great Battle Report and editing. The only mistake that made me cringe as a Tyranid player is the Hive Guard not shooting overwatch on 5+ when the green things da-jumped behind him. Turn 'em back to slime for the biomass! Great stuff gents!
Well this is great to find some midwinter minis videos I hadnt seen. For some reason despite being subscribed with notifications on, this wasnt shown to me. Same with the heroquest skeletons video too... :(
Oh definately play a rematch, hunt those bug spawning pools. This was really fun, narrative play is my flavour of choice. Spent a lot of time admiring the armies, you can never have enough Ork eyecandy, as for those bugs .. brightly coloured critters is never a good sign, a worrying sight to behold. I enjoyed this game, thank you, I hope you find time for more Ork v Bug action.
I can watch this weekly just so you know... If you plan to do so... I will be there.... Just making sure you understand here. Please give me more of this
An enormous amount of rule mistakes were made, but a fun and enjoyable battle report nonetheless. The most major one : you dont need to do a battle shock test as soon as a unit becomes below half strength. You only need to do a battle shock test in the battle shock part of your own command phase for each unit that is below half strength.
I know jeff just got stuck on the the other model, but I do love my head canon of Jeff and the broodlord were best friends and he held him as he passed. I KNOW TYRANIDS DON'T WORK THAT WAY, BUT I LOVE IT TOO MUCH.
Hey guy how's it going? Hey I watch your channel all the time buddy. With this new video of orks and tyrranids. You guys are using an app for rolling dice. Isn't the best part of the game is rolling the dice. It helps my kids think fast math. Love your work!!!
Parasite deepstriking turn one, putting it just out of 9" meaning you need a 9 to be within an inch not 8. or does it have extra inches on charge as an ability ?

That was great. I doing normally watch these long form game play but it was so entertaining and informative. Thanks
Jeff the Genestealer and not Eugene Stealer? Seems like a missed opportunity.
Aaargh, that is brilliant- but Jeff is a classic hero from the very first Synthwave battles on the channel, and I’m glad he remains as unkillable as ever :)
On another note, if I ever do a GSC Kill Team, would you let me use Eugene Stealer for a hero 🤣 our friends would love him
@@toastle8005 Sure, feel free. I’ll open source Eugene Stealer so all are free to use him
On page 11 of the core rules it reads: Gaining command points. Outside of the CP players gain at the start of the command phase, each player can only gain a total of 1CP per battle round, regardless of the source.
Thievin’ Scavengers: At the start of your Command phase, roll
one D6 for each objective marker you control that has one or
more units from your army with this ability within range of it. If
one or more of those rolls is a 4+, you gain 1CP.
Absolutely what i was waiting for, always wanted a sequel to the ork vs tyrannid saga
Honestly, thats the Best battle report ive watched. You should do more of the full Scale ones!
Great batrep. Well narrated and alot of flavor! Would love to see more
Great video. Not played WH40k since 2nd edition (so glad you explained all the dice roll requirements and rules as you went!) but was enjoyable to watch. Hope you do more battle reports, time permitting, in the future.
If anyone ever says stormtroopers have the worst aim just show them an ork batrep 🤣
Wow, what a game! I had no idea which way it would go until the very end.
Finally a narrative battle report! Who cares about points, it is the story that matters :)
Wow! didn't expect it to swing the way it did. Can't wait for the follow up
Awesome 👌 really enjoyed that guys! More like that please!!
why did the hormagaunts take a battle-shock test at the end of Tyranids first turn? don't you only do that in the command phase? or did one of the orks have an ability that triggered it?
They just played it wrong, just like they did with Synapse skill when resolving that battle shock test 😅
@tiberiumnp8030 ok, thanks. That's what I thought but i just wanted to make sure
Orks Orks Orks, they are lovely green creatures are they not xD Loved watching the game and the commentry on it.
I've been so excited for this one!
Me too! :D
I am extremely interested in finding out what dice rolling app you all were using for your massive pools of dice?
I as well
This is really great! Please more custom scenarios! Love it
'Horuspex' - ouch!
Great, great game (and dog).
You're one of my favourite warhammer RUclipsrs :)
Thanks bud!
Oh yes this is gonna be epic! I love your battle reports, gonna make a cup of tea and heat up a cinnamon bun for this one
Once in a while this ch. Upload a great battle report
My favorite battle report Ive seen, please make more
Hate being "that guy" especially since you were losing anyway, but when you roll for attacks for Burna-boyz, you roll 1d6 for each model in the unit and if you use command re-roll on the number of attacks, it would reroll only one of those dice. Since you would have rolled 8d6, you actually might not have used a command re-roll if only one of them was a 1 but the rest were like 5's and 6's.
I like how the earning of VP reflects the narrative, nice and clean.
Great video. I hope the effort is worth it for you guys.
more of this please. awesome battle report
Lmao you had me at Killchesta
Great Battle Report and editing. The only mistake that made me cringe as a Tyranid player is the Hive Guard not shooting overwatch on 5+ when the green things da-jumped behind him. Turn 'em back to slime for the biomass! Great stuff gents!
I do love the look of Ant's Tyranids.
What dice rolling app do you use? Just bought myself ghaz as a Christmas present and I'd rather not roll 12 dice for a shooting phase 😂
Deap strike turn one? I'm sure it's states somewhere that reserves can only come in for the second turn onwards.
yes! turn 1 doesnt have the reinforcement step
No deep strike in turn 1 is rule from leviathan mission deck a.k.a card pack. They weren't using it in this game so it's permitted by core rules.
Great video. Would love to see more battle reports.
Well this is great to find some midwinter minis videos I hadnt seen. For some reason despite being subscribed with notifications on, this wasnt shown to me. Same with the heroquest skeletons video too... :(
this was a lot of fun I love the battle reports
Love it Guy!! Cool intro
Rules be damned, this game was fun. Dicerolls swinging all over the place, "old" models returning to the fray, it was a blast!
Yeah, it was nice seeing those ancient Ork Boyz retuning to the fray.
Would love to see more of these battle reports
What's the dice roller app? It looks so clean and easy to read :)
Amazing that the tyranids fought against an empty table
Already know this I going to be good
Keep up the good work
Thanks pal!
@@MidwinterMinis thanks for the amazing content
I remember hearing about warhammer a couple years ago then I saw a death guard painting video of yours and that got me into mini painting
What dice rolling app did you guys use?
out of curiosity ( hoping to make my own games go more smooth) what were the apps used to view the rules for the models and roll the dice?
Great video ! Really want to see more narrrative game like that =D
What's the name of the app you used for the dice roll? I'm thinking of playing orks but I don't have enough dice irl for it.
I'm still hoping for that sandstone necrons full army showcase you promised in that last painting challenge you did for them. Bring on the skele boys
I can watch this weekly just so you know... If you plan to do so... I will be there.... Just making sure you understand here. Please give me more of this
haven’t watched the video yet, but let’s go guys orks!!!
This was awesome! When is the next full battle?
Anyone know what dice rolling app Guy is using? Looks super nice and clean and easy to use.
Great video, thanks! Did one of your lootas have a looted dreadnought weapon??
Anyone know the name of the dice rolling app at 24:50
An enormous amount of rule mistakes were made, but a fun and enjoyable battle report nonetheless.
The most major one : you dont need to do a battle shock test as soon as a unit becomes below half strength. You only need to do a battle shock test in the battle shock part of your own command phase for each unit that is below half strength.
Killchester...
I appreciate that so much.
I know jeff just got stuck on the the other model, but I do love my head canon of Jeff and the broodlord were best friends and he held him as he passed. I KNOW TYRANIDS DON'T WORK THAT WAY, BUT I LOVE IT TOO MUCH.
I liked that weirdboy maneuver i might copy that
This battle report is very cool, but its really bothering me that the points overlay has orks and tyranids swapped sides compared to the table.
Good game. Orks vs Nids always is slug fest. BTW, what app are you using for dice rolls?
Hey guy how's it going?
Hey I watch your channel all the time buddy. With this new video of orks and tyrranids. You guys are using an app for rolling dice.
Isn't the best part of the game is rolling the dice. It helps my kids think fast math. Love your work!!!
Parasite deepstriking turn one, putting it just out of 9" meaning you need a 9 to be within an inch not 8. or does it have extra inches on charge as an ability ?
love your battle reports! But please finish the hero quest painting tutorials!
