A song in tribute to the Saint Patrick's Battalion of the Mexican Army which fought ferociously during the Mexican-American War of the 1840s. The unit was made up of hundreds of men, mostly Irish who would have been defectors from the US army. 50 members from this unit would also go on to be executed by the US army, making it the largest mass execution in the history of the United States
