Taken on March 25th 1963 President Makarios was escorted to a mountainous Country Spa Retreat for 6 Days in the Troodos Mountains after which my father escorted him to Lefkosia Costantinos Ioakimidis
Superb vignettes of Cypriot life, that include the co- existence of the two communities. For me, as a child of the 60’s , the final minutes showing the stunning scenery around Platres, is a real treat.
I was there from 1964 until 1967 - I loved the place. When I got my notice to leave for Germany I would have willingly stayed in Cyprus for another three years!
Disappointing that nothing much of Turkish Cypriots featured in this video, clearly filmed among Greek ppl. Flags of Greece, surrounding -the then- Rep. of Cyprus well before escape from the island of Makarios. Today's Cyprus -2024- is well defined with the clear borders between the Greek South of the island and the Turkish Rep of Northern Cyprus.
