Frank Kush: I've never seen this repeated in any retelling of Elway's holdout, but at the time there was a story published by a sports journalist that the reason Elway refused to play for Kush was that Kush was an abusive college head coach. The specific item in the story was that he had his players in a wrestling room, paired them off, and required them to attack and subdue each other -- he didn't care if they injured each other. Jack Elway had heard about it during is time as a college coach.
