- Oklahoma State's Brian Musau and New Mexico's Habtom Samuel fought to the line in the men's 5,000m, with Musau taking the win narrowly in 13:13.29. Both athletes entered the top-10 on the collegiate all-time list for the outdoor 5k.
Romain Legendre of Adams State in third clocked a new D2 record of 13:16.53.

It is cool that Theo Quax (7th place, 13:23) is a sub-four minute miler and also the son of a sub-four minute miler. I believe there have only been a handful of father-son sub-four minute miler pairs in history. I wonder (and doubt) if there has ever been a three generation line.
