He fights foxes. He attacks birds. He ignores politicians. Larry rules Downing street like a boss.
Larry is THE BOSS!
Larry achieves something other PM's have not. Larry eradicates rodents at No. 10.
To be fair, you can’t expect PMs to eradicate themselves 😂
😂
There's a wonderful clip of Larry sitting outside number 10's front door when they were expecting a very important visitor. A massive group of journalists and photographers were there and they were all enthusiastically taking photos. Then a staff member popped out the door and picked him up to get him out of the way inside, and the whole crowd started booing.
News reporters actually bring him treats ,the Cat is actually more famous than the Prime Minister . The reporters will rush to take his photo anytime they are in Downing Street .
He's generally the more universally popular option.
I believe that! With good reason :)
We all love Larry ❤
Can definitely see why ❤️
Larry is the best leader the UK has ever had. He is my hero ❤
Ps there are quite a number of videos of Larry in action/inaction.
Liz Truss lasted 43 days, a lettuce lasted longer.
✌️💙🏴🇬🇧
I was always curious whether anyone actually tried to eat either of them after the 43 days.

🤢🤮
Only in the USA 😂
@@susangardner6059
That was in the UK. ✌️💙🇬🇧
God, I thought it was 70 odd.
There is no external lock on 10 Downing Street for security. Larry has a policeman to knock on the door to let him in. It is a townhouse but is huge as it extends a long way to the back with large gardens.
Have seen the door open without officers outside. Think there is a doorman inside watching the external view on a CCTV screen.
I don't think there's a policeman at the door anymore, since the security gates were put up where Downing Street meets Whitehall, police security has moved there, I believe the guys knocking on the door are journalists.
As a joke, someone set up a lettuce and asked, "Will Liz Truss last longer than this lettuce?" She didn't.
Jeremy Hunt was a terrible chancellor.
Jeremy C-
I cant say that here 😂😂
@@YoloMenace001 there's a couple of compilations where news reporters are various public figures do I think ;)
@@wulfgold i meant it to say c*nt not Clarkson.
Who just had the cheek to tell off the new chancellor, for having to clear up his mess.
But a very popular spoonerism.
What you have to bare in mind is number 10 is Larry’s house, PM’s and staff come and go but Larry is the permanent resident, there for number 10 downing st is Larry’s house and people come to stay with him for long periods of time
Yeah that's a good point :)
We have two 2yo girls now, but our last kitties both lived to almost 22years old...
Infamous video of Larry attacking a pigeon at the feet of all all the news teams. The pigeon got away.
There is usually a Police Officer on duty outside the door who knocks when Larry is ready to enter . There are a lot of journalists waiting outside when important announcements may or may not be made with time on their hands so Larry often makes the News and front pages when nothing happens .
The door of No 10 is blast-proof steel and can’t be opened from the outside, and it’s so heavy when they take it off for maintenance it takes 8 people to lift it. There is a security guard there to open it at all times, but security reasons are why they won’t put in a cat flap 😜
a 4 inch thick catflap might negate the point :P
The only living being that has something to do number 10, that I like, is Larry the cat.
Larry walks the walk! A pity his roommates never did.
Larry is protected to the max, 😂😂
Larry rules 😂
National Service was created after the war. Yes, 17-21 year olds had to sign up to serve for two years. Most were home-based. Some actually went to war in Malaysia, Korea, Kenya and Cyprus.
Larry has more sense than all the politicians put together 😅
Perhaps they should have taken Boris to the vets as well. Might have made a difference.
Larry is a National Treasure & Icon - I know many of us Brits would prefer him to ANY Prime Minister!
Which is why we never see his name in the ballots. Larry would clean house.
Larry is quite particular about who he meets. When the boss of Mitsubishi came to number 10 he bent down to pet Larry - who just ran off.
Shout out to Alder Hey Children's Hospital and the emergency services, doing the absolute lords work 🙏
Yes let's not forget what happened yesterday- Alder Hey near where I live
@@CarolWoosey-ck2rg Same, when I was a kid I had operations there. We're scouse no one comes together like us when stuff like this happens, we feel it as one and this HURTS.
Larry's a legend! 😺
The queen loved her horses and her corgis, never heard of her having a relationship with cats. I love the pet accounts, if they’re well put together, I’ve been following Larry for a while lol. On RUclips there’s a black lab, King Clarence, the account is hilarious. I have seen every post on “Jimmy and Clarence” 😂😂
There is a family apartment on the upper floors ,while the lower floors are used as offices for daily meetings and business running the country .
7:51 basically, for Boris he had a party with 10+ people during covid even though it was against the rules set for everyone else, and for Rishi he did an interview where he said that he had suffered before, and when asked how he said he didn’t get sky+ as a kid (+ he’s transphobic and tried to start a “help centre” which was basically just conversation therapy)
10 Downing Street is a really big town house...It was donated to the "nation" by the previous owner...A Mr Chicken!!🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔😂😂😂😂
Liz probably never met the Cat.
The Queen doesn't go to the PM. The PM goes to the Queen.
I'm an American and even I understand Protocol.
For a second I thought you meant Liz Truss. And you know what? It might even be true, she was barely in there long enough for her tea to go cold.
Although, as we all know, a cat can _look_ at a queen...
Anyway, no one meet the chief mouser without an appointment !
Shame Donald Trump doesn't understand protocol or dignity.
Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been?
Ive been to London to visit the Queen
Pussycat, pussycat, what did you there?
I frightened a little mouse under her chair
Disraeli, had a sense of humour. When hearing that a political rival was ill replied " Nothing trivial I hope!"
That was A jibe at the people's William ( Gladstone )
They loathed one another apparently
The person walking towards the door is a reporter going to knock on the door so Larry can be let in .
@@leighnisbett9691 Love Dan Walker and the policeman was so confused why Dan was knocking! 🤣
Love it! haha
Some of the freelance photographers, who are there every day, swear, that Larry is often deliberately posing for them like a model 🤣🤣
No you call them row houses, we call them terrace houses :)
After he dealt with the fox - MP's suddenly realised how vicious Larry could be. That and the fact he goes everywhere and sees and hears everything meant that when the price of Dreamies went up under Boris the Prime Minster was finished. A quick meow in the ears and Boris had mass resignations and his reign was over. Larry doesn't mess about when it comes to his treats
My old cat lived to 27 years old, for 20+ of those years she was the dominant cat in my area.
My Dad is almost 87, he did his National service in the RAF, during that time he met my Mum. They have been married 61 years in August. Last year they got a special card from the King and Queen for reaching their 60th wedding anniversary. I definitely was not a honeymoon baby as I was born 3 years after that!!!! LOL
My Dad did his National Service in the RAF as well. I think he delayed as he went to university. He would have turned 90 this year.
How cute what a fantastic celebration 🎉❤
Rishi Sunak and his wife are worth about £700 million. You would never get into Downing Street to say hello to Larry - Downing Street is protected buy a ring of steel. No. 10 is very deceptive, it goes back a long way and basically occupies the whole street - the interior has high ceilings and fairly grand rooms. If you watch the comedy film 'Love Actually' you get a pretty good idea of what 10 Downing Street is like inside. Hugh Grant plays the part of a newly elected PM - it's an entertaining film, funny from the start & with a few surprises!
I think when PM's have that much money they have no reality of what life is like for the average middle class person let alone for working class people 🫤
The Sunaks are apparently richer than the royals, hence the joke about the King wanting a loan.
@@susangardner6059 I completely agree.
I can' begin to fathom how life would be if I was worth £700 million and I'm sure the same applies in reverse, probably more so.
The match of the day tweet is about when the BBC tried to sack a football Presenter called Gary Linekar who is a massive name here and basically everyone in football supported him by not wanting to present the show without him. I'm cutting lots of details out here because it has more back story to it then just this
Match of the Day itself is probably the biggest TV show covering football(soccer) here and goes back almost as long as TV itself or so it feels.
The theme tune is iconic.
Funnily enough I'd not heard of Larry until recently. Last Downing street cat I'd heard of was Humphrey and his passing if I remember correctly made the national news. Since the election there is a guide dog that sits in parliment. Perhaps you should check him out.
As the fox found out, Larry is in-charge of dealing with vermin......Larry learned his lesson from having to deal with Boris, so it only took him 45 days to get rid of Liz Truss!
Fox's are not vermin
Tories, on the other hand...
hahaha
@@CarolWoosey-ck2rg would you have one in your house?
You read a comment out saying at the end Larry x. An x usually at the end or after your name is a symbol for a kiss.
Some sanity in an insane world!
Cats are living so much longer these days due to the demand on healthier animal foods. My 3 Female Cats were all 23 years old the year they passed and my Gp’s cat is currently 27 she informed me last week!
11:22 Lindsey hit the nail on the head, Rishi Sunak & his family have more money than the Royal Family do. It's one of the reasons so many people branded Sunak out of touch with the average Briton.
Plus, the fact, that he didnt know how to fill a car with petrol. Or how to pay for it. And asked a homeless man at a shelter if he was "in finance". And sooooo much more entitled rich kid crap like that.
His idea of deprivation was not having Sky TV.
Larry the Cat is the best PM the UK never had. He has become the official mascot of the British People.
5:09 the Monarch very rarely visits 10 downing street. After all, one of the perks of Monarchy is you can Summon people who must attend to YOU, you don't have to go to them. Thus most interactions between the Monarch and the Prime Minister happen at a Palace. Larry therefore would have had minimal exposure to the Queen.
There really REALLY should be a statue of Larry outside 10 Downing street when he passes. Also forget UK, I think he is the worlds most famous feline.
Cats are just great animals and very intelligent. It’s just a shame that the politicians who come and go from number 10 don’t match his brain power.
My eldest cat, was 21. Loved her so much.
You should look up the TV show “Paul O’Grady: For the love of dogs “ it was about the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home - which is the rescue where Larry was adopted from. It was really good!
Larry has a door man to knock on the door for him.
You'll need to do a video on Disraeli now!
All I remember abou Disraeli is his nighttime visits to fallen ladies. Think he took his bible. 😂
That was Gladstone. Disraeli was Jewish.
@@janicekingham9043 Stuff and bother, thanks for info, I'll update my memory banks.
Larry doesnt need a cat flap,he has servants that open the door for him ;) plenty of public/police/media people around to knock the door for him,Larry never goes unnoticed, lets be honest now,hes the most important being who lives at number 10 lol
Larry chasing the pigeon 😂! Even CNN showed it 🤭😂!
The video of the PM's case changing colour was actually a live feed news article
(FILMED LIVE)
@@jew-wheelsvanderburg How did it happen? 🤯
@sarahglover3286 oh I wish I knew I remember watching the live feed and was pissed I couldn't rewind instantly to rematch but I have watched many times and cannot figure it out
@@jew-wheelsvanderburg He steps out of the door in the shadow, so its a red binder. On the other side of the car hes in halfblinding sunlight, so its probably something to do with the fractioning of the light.
There are over 100 rooms in 10 Downing Street. Who knows how much is unofficially underground as well.
When i was a groundsman there were 9 wild foxes on site and every time the local cat would chase a fox away and as if the fox had a sense of humour it would come back to be chased away again.
If that was me I would be taking eggs to work to dot around the grounds for them ❤
@@Allthebestboys That was done by myself and the 6 residents along with other food including chicken
Larry doesn't take too kindly to other animals on his turf. There's the famous incident where Larry and Palmerston, a cat from the foreign office, had a fight a few days before brexit on downing street. They constantly cross paths.
Then there's the one where a bird was innocently minding it's own business and Larry nearly killed it.
Palmerston has been pensioned off now. Palmerston may have won the occasional battle, but Larry won the war!
The prime minister and his family live in a flat above 10 Downing Street, the rest of the house is offices. Sadly the public cannot enter Downing Street as there is massive security gates at the entrance to Downing Street.
Since Blair the PM has actually lived in the no 11 flat as it had enough bedrooms for their children - no 10's flat is smaller so during the Blair era Gordon Brown lived there (as he was a bachelor). Cameron & famille occupied no 11 too IIRC. I believe the trend has continued since although I'm not sure since BoJo where they've each lived (10 or 11)
Mark Feltons channel does a good video on the history of the Downing Stree cats, or chief mousers. Its very inetersting and amusing to see.
my sisters cats lived to 23yrs.!!!
🌹🇬🇧🌹morning everyone 🐈!
Morning.
Great video about Larry he is definitely a top cat 🐈 xx
Great video really enjoyed this 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Ive always thought Larry's unofficial photographer, Justin Ng runs Larry's twitter account
there are many videos on youtube about Larry the Cat posing for journalists, greeting us presidents and leaders of other countries, fighting with Palmerston, the Chief Mouser cat of the foreign affairs office etc......please react to those compilation videos. I love Larry so much and I'm not even British. All the way from Kenya, East Africa!
Larry actually has a team as well! Parliament house has a head mouser, called Attlee, which has employees, such as Clem the cat, which are all part of the chief mousers team. Clem was appointed to the parliament on the 16th July, however Attlee is still head mouser of the speakers house and is not above Larry, chief mouser.
There is also Hodge, nicknamed the Cathedral cat! He valiantly guards Southwark Cathedral!
I am sure there are many more cats of Larry’s team but that’s all I know.
Is Gladstone still at the Home Office? I know Palmerston of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has retired.
@@jacquieclapperton9758 It seems Gladstone is chief mouser to HM treasury.
Match of the day is like SportsCenter for football ⚽️
I bet if we made Larry the cat prime minister he would probably do a much better job than the last few we have had.
Larry the Cat of Ten Downing Street is looked after by the staff and not the prime minister , he has free range over Ten Downing Street and the surrounding area up to the gates .
when I was a lad, Match of the Day was a football prog on television on Saturday nite on BBC1. It would have footage of some majory football matches that day, 2 or three usually.
When the sad day arrives when Larry finally passes he should get a state funeral.
Honestly, for what he has endured in the last few years, he should already have received a peerage!
@@dfuher968If King Harald of Norway can knight a penguin at Edinburgh Zoo, I'm sure that King Charles can knight Larry! Arise, Sir Larry!
No relationship with the queen, as far as I know she never went to 10 downing street they always go to her x
The entrance to Downing Street is fenced off and access is via a guarded gateway, so not that many people can get close to Larry. Fifty years ago, before it was fenced off, anybody could walk down to No. 10. Now entry is only permitted for MPs, visiting dignitaries and journalists.
I seem to have a memory from a school trip that you could walk past in late 70s early 80s...
I was on a school trip there in 1990. The fence was up at that time, but as I can recall, we could get fairly close, close enough to see at least.
This was just great 😍
:D followed larry's twitter since it started. always a tonic.
I watched your football reaction and I would like to suggest reacting to a tv series, which binds European football (known as soccer) and some stuff for US people.
The series name is "Welcome to Wrexham" and it is the series (more like documentary) about RYAN REYNOLDS and ROB MCELHENNEY buying a football club in Wales (UK).
It is a really amazing series showing this sport to Americans.
Worth watching. That's for sure.
National Service was a compulsory period of Military Service in force from the late 40s to about 1963...my late father narrowly missed out on this🎩
Sir Michael caine
was a national serviceman who saw actual combat againt chinese troops during the Korean war
We have had many cats over the years most lived to around 18 Although the oldest was 21.
As the Prime Minister goes to The Monarch each week for an Audience, I doubt Larry has had the pleasure (apart from a visit by The Queen in 2012 to Downing Street) of seeking an 'audience' but I am sure if he were not so 'busy' he would not only seek an audience, but attention and I am sure he would have a long list of things he would like to discuss about his tenure with all these comings and goings of Prime Ministers. 😃😺
Benjamin Disraeli is one of the greatest, most famous PMs of all time. The Monach doesn't go to number 10 😂😂 the resident of number 10 goes to the palace to see the Monach 😂😂😂
Although Disraeli was PM about 150 years ago, so understandable that Steve and Linzi didn't know who he was!
@stevieinselby OK but I know who Abraham Lincoln was and Disraeli and Lincoln are contemporary
3:30 Even knowing there were loads of urban foxes in London, was quite the surprise to see one in the car park of our hotel last year. Just chilling out lol.
The Queen only went to Downing Street once. She was not a cat lover. She was a horse and dog lover.
She went several times during her reign, from Churchill to Thatcher to Blair to Cameron. It was just a very rare occurrence as normally people are summoned to see the Monarch for official duties, they are not regularly visited.
My kind of gal!!
The Queen and Prince Philip went to downing street in 2012 during David Camerons PM reign
I can’t be the only one that would genuinely vote for Larry before any other denizens of Downing Street
A potted history of the Conservative prime ministers 2010-24:
🔵 *David Cameron* 2010-16: won the general election in 2010 (kind of) and then won again (properly) in 2015. Very upper-class but came across as quite middle-of-the-road politically. Made the mistake of trying to appease the far-right xenophobic wing of the party in 2015 by calling the Brexit referendum, although he opposed Brexit. He resigned after losing the referendum and quite his job as an MP immediately.
🔵 *Theresa May* 2016-19: a long-standing MP who had held high profile positions previously, she had campaigned for Remain in the referendum but pivoted to supporting Brexit afterwards in order to win over the support of the lunatic wing of the party. A robotic personality lacking in empathy or warmth, she was respected more than she was liked, but after calling a snap election in 2017 and winning it only by the skin of her teeth, she lost most of her authority in the party, and limped on as a lame-duck PM for a couple of years before eventually admitting that her position was untenable and resigning, although she stayed on as an MP until she retired in 2024.
🔵 *Boris Johnson* 2019-22: the closest we've had to Trump. Johnson was a fantasist and a clown, who had originally made a name for himself by writing xenophobic lies about the EU for right-wing newspapers, and had cynically cultivated an image of being a harmless, bumbling eccentric through regular media appearances. He was loathed by the many people who saw through his act, but was adored by large numbers as well. During Covid and the aftermath, it became clear to more people that he was a liar and a chancer who emboldened his colleagues to be their worst selves, he punished integrity and rewarded failure. By 2022, after all the revelations of Partygate and the PPE scandals, as well as numerous other financial and sexual scandals across the party, the public mood had turned sharply against him. A large number of his ministers resigned in short order, and eventually he was left with no choice but to resign. He stayed on as an MP in the short term but then resigned soon after when investigations started into his behaviour.
🔵 *Liz Truss* Sept 2022-Oct 2022: a demented lunatic who only the nutcases in the Tory party could consider as one of them. She was the MPs' second choice in the leadership contest, but the membership put her as their first choice. The only policy that she seemed to have was to cut taxes and then cut more taxes, and to spend as much public money on herself as she could. The economy immediately went into a tailspin, and although she clearly modelled herself on Margaret Thatcher, who had famously used the phrase "The Lady's not for turning", she had none of MT's gravitas, intelligence or integrity, and started u-turning so fast that you could have put fins on her and used her to generate 20MWh. After a mere 49 days in office, she resigned as PM, and then in the 2024 general election became the first former prime minister in UK history to lose their seat. Part-way through her tenure, a news channel brought in a lettuce and started a challenge of whether the lettuce would last longer than Truss' premiership. It did.
🔵 *Rishi Sunak* 2022-24: one of the richest men in the country, he had reached public consciousness during Covid when, as chancellor, he was responsible for giving out furlough payments, so lots of people had a positive first impression. He came across as a smooth-talking technocrat who promised an end to the turmoil and turbulence of the previous 3 years, but then continued with the culture wars and chaos. Presiding over a fractious party that was riven with scandals, he had little authority within the party and couldn't claim any mandate as he hadn't even won a proper leadership contest (he had basically been crowned after the Truss debacle) let alone a general election. The public were utterly fed up with the venal Tories by this stage, and as Sunak was doing less than nothing to bring about the trust, honesty and integrity that he had promised, his popularity ratings dropped through the floor, cementing the Tories' humiliating defeat in the general election.
Also: *Jeremy Hunt* is a Tory MP and was chancellor 2022-24, appointed by Truss in week 6 after she fired Zahawi, the previous chancellor, and then kept on by Sunak.
Cats have been known to live to 30+ years.
My last Burnaby was 24 years ago when she passed away. My present boy turns 19 next february and he's still healthy and going strong.
I was born on Valentine’s Day too. My postman always thinks I’m very popular but the cards I receive are all Birthday Cards, not valentines cards. ❤❤❤❤
Jeremy Hunt was Chancellor of the Exchequer and lived at number 11 Downing Street
Match of the day is a Soccer highlights show on an evening. It has a short and very iconic theme tune.
When it was tweets for Twitter, I think, that when Musk insists on now calling it X, then it should be called "xcretions".
I did notice, that Larry has a blue check, so maybe Musk isnt 100% hopeless.
There are videos on 10 Downing street history and if you search British news channels Sky or BBC i know one had a video of the new PM going inside but filmed from inside with staff wanting.
You may want to watch a very short video. 'Larry the Downing Street cat’s best moments'. And/or more recently 'Larry the cat greets Ukrainian ambassador' and 'Larry the cat poised to welcome Britain's next prime minister' and 'No.10's Downing Street Cat Larry - His security team'. All very short vids so consider watching them as 1 vid. He is world famous and more popular than any PM to serve him, during his lifetime.
Our late Queen Elizabeth II was _not_ as fan of cats. Her Majesty kept (I think* Pembroke* Corgis) - originally small cattle dogs - and over her lifetime, she had _30_ Corgis. Her first Corgi was a bitch named Susan and she bred from Susan and kept her descendents.
(HM also kept and bred Labradors - and of course, horses, about which, she was extremely knowledgable, as well as being an excellent horsewoman, even riding on into her late eighties/ early nineties, until she took a fall and hurt her back, and was advised by he Doctors to cease riding, which must have disappointed her greatly -
HM's Labrador often winning gundog competitions). ...
"Match of the Day" is a sports programme on weekend television, concentrating on football and the current games, news regarding players, and managers etc, plus various national / international competitions. ...
What you call "Row Houses" we call 'Terrace Houses'.
Jeremy Hunt was a senior member of many Conservative cabinets recently! See if you can find a video about all the PMs and senior members of cabinet over the last 14 years! That would help you figure out how popular Boris etc were! Also Liz Truss was like 42 days so yes you're right!
Jeremy Hunt was Chancellor of the Exchequer, the number two position in the Government and practically in charge of the Treasury. He was rapidly put into position to settle the markets during Truss’s brief tenure after her first one helped her start a financial crisis. He stayed in that post during Sunak’s period as PM. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has their official residence at Number 11 Downing Street.
Larry is the best one at number 10. Match of the day is a sports show. National service is our version of the Draft as you thought in your video. Jeremy Hunt is the ex chancellor, he was in office when Rishi was Prime Minister.
My dad did 3yrs of National service a few yrs after the end of WW2, but it's something that was scrapped decades ago. Just another stupid proposal from the now thankfully ex-government. The BBC recently made a little programme on Larry, but having a quick glance on here, there's a fair bit about him. He's a national treasure, and whoever runs his account, always says the right thing at the right moment...
Jeremy Hunt , when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) lived next door at 11 Downing St.

Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG, PC, DL, JP, FRS (21 December 1804 - 19 April 1881) was a British statesman, Conservative politician and writer who twice served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He played a central role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party, defining its policies and its broad outreach. Disraeli is remembered for his influential voice in world affairs, his political battles with the Liberal Party leader William Ewart Gladstone, and his one-nation conservatism or "Tory democracy". He made the Conservatives the party most identified with the British Empire and military action to expand it, both of which were popular among British voters. He is the only British Prime Minister to have been born Jewish.
