PS4 and ps3 are tied for me. I’ve had every main console since the first nes in 1987, and the last 2 gens have been, far and away my favorite when looking at Sony’s first party games lineup.
I agree. Sony is awesome for their 1st party games. But in my opinion PS2 > PS4 > PS3 > PS1. And I love all four consoles. However, the PS2 was a console that truly had something for everyone. No other console has been able to capture what the PS2 accomplished. The AAA games on the PS4/PS3 are spectacular, but I think the PS4 is better because the DualShock 3 was a terrible controller. Then you have the PS1, which was the best disc-based console of the 90s, next to the Dreamcast.
Jazzy Jazz I think the PS2 has the worst lineup of exclusives. I would go PS4 > PS3 > PS1 > PS2. Of course it’s not a bad console but had a huge amount of 3rd party support.
The PS2 is an all time classic. Because the fact it played DVDs. And that was a big deal at the time. I still have the silver slimline version, still plays perfect to this day. *"GTA San Andreas"* was the one I crushed heavily.
#2 you forgot to mention probably the best game of all time GTA- SAN ANDREAS I used to spend Hours every day playing that, there is always something to do even after you complete the mission's (I am 50 year's old).
In my opinion, I feel the Dreamcast was superior compared to the GameCube. Wasn't as good as the PS2 but better than the GameCube. The Xbox thought, that is just there. Not a bad console yet not a good one
TSZ how is the Dreamcast better than the Gamecube to you? I think the Gamecube has a much better games lineup and the still the most comfortable controller ever made. I do still think the Dreamcast is the most underrated console of all time.
Both of which were beaten by late-lifetime NES titles. NES games that came out against the SNES/MD are outperforming both platforms! But the best of all was the console you never encountered in "The Battle", the third dog running away with the bone is the PC Engine. The G.C.O.A.T.
In a way yes. The SNES was good on paper, and only a handful composers were able to deal with the very complicated hardware, like David Wise. Also the SNES greatly lost chiptune charm being near perfect CD quality in theory. On the other side, the FM synth in the MD was a pain in the butt to program as well, and only in recent years, thanks to tools like DEXED, we can finally access the full potential of FM synthesis. I think previous consoles like the NES and PC Engine are way more interesting sonically.
Nintendo Switch at Number 6? I'm perfectly fine with that placement. But personally, I'd rate Super Nintendo higher than NES if only for the fact at how timeless that console is, not to mention how well it holds up in today's market of HD graphics and symphonic soundtracks.
Got mine in 2010 from my aunt. Sly 3 was my main game followed by Harry Potter and the goblet of fire. Ps2 is the best console with Xbox360 in second place by a wide margin
@@jponz85the list is not about the best console, it's about the greatest console. You have to take into account historical context, impact in society when it came out, among other things. Also Atari started the entire home-console market almost by itself and Wii revolutionised the way games are played to the point that today almost no console is released without motion sensor on the controller... Also after the Wii release both Sony and Microsoft had to release their own version of motion controllers in PS3 and XBox 360.

The NES is the reason why we even _had_ a videogame industry in the US in the '90s, though. The reason why it looks like a VCR and was called an "entertainment system" was because US retailers didn't want to touch videogames with a 100' pole after the crash in '83, so I would agree with WatchMojo on this one. It was the lifesaver of the industry.
@@kriscynical lifesaver doesn't = a bettet console. The ps2 was the better system. And I'm not talking about graphics because its obvious the ps2 was better since it came about way after the nes
PS2 Honestly should've been #1 here. Highest number of games with a very diverse library, most systems sold, longest supported lifespan(?), made dvd playback relevant and affordable and it had backwards compatibility.
@@Defender1876 And how is that relevant to what is the best system? Nintendo screwed over Sony which in turn created a more successful system line. Or are you saying that because it came first? If so then I guess I can say without something like the Fairchild Channel F there would be no Nintendo anything so that must mean it's the best system.
Mmm no, Quantity does not mean quality, and although Ps2 is very good, it is not because it has had 2000 games or because it has sold more. Just because it has sold more does not mean it is the best and neither of those 2000 games were all good. Has no sense, how pathetic, because then the best game in the world would be Minecraft because it is the most sold. Ps2 is good where it is in position 2 and Nes in 1 for being the lifeguard of consoles and although I like it more PS2 is not the best console either.
Thank you for putting the NES as number 1. I know how great the PS2 was for most people but if the PS2 didn't exist, you'd still have great games from Xbox, Gamecube and even Dreamcast. Without the NES, the game console would be dead! We would have almost nothing at the time. Also, many of the classics are still enjoyable 30 years later, and that is saying something.
By that logic, the Magnavox Odyssey should be the greatest console of all time, since there was nothing else competing with it at the time and also the fact that video games wouldn't be here without its existence. Just because a console came first, doesn't mean its the best. Also, in terms of classics as a whole, the SNES simply whoops the NES's ass. The NES was based on 8-bit sprites that have aged very poorly as time has gone on. Its games lack depth in game design, gameplay, atmosphere, music, difficulty, consistency, replayability, and visual fidelity. Meanwhile, SNES games still play and look absolutely sublime even to this day! The 16 bit sprites and amazing consistency across all of its games help establish the SNES as an enjoyable platform that is still worth revisiting. The SNES was made to perfect the 2d era of gaming, refining some rough edges from the NES. it is unanimously agreed upon across many video game critics that the SNES was the perfection of the 2d era of gaming, whereas the NES was only the pioneer of the 2d era of games.
@@laithghamyan1901 Yeah, you’re right. The Magnavox was every bit as innovative as the NES with all its classic game franchises and 3rd party licenses. I honestly don’t know a single person who grew up with the Magnavox who didn’t want or own one. I stand correct. Congrats bro

Although PS4 sold well. The game were lack luster this console generation. I mean that across the board including Xbox one & Nintendo switch. We got more remakes, remasters , and sequels than actual new creative IP’s. It’s the games that make a console great. Before you say god of war and spider- man on PS4 . Those games came out 15 years ago and were done well on the PS2.

Zoomer detected....awww Kid in in history there have been jewels in the form of consoles and it seems that you missed them, but calm because in this top they teach you.
As a person that has been alive through every generation, I agree with NES being number one. Younger generations won't understand the significance of what it meant for the business. Simply, you won't be playing your PS5 if it wasn't for the NES. My list not including handhelds. 1. NES 2. SNES 3. OG Xbox 4. Dreamcast 5. PS1 6. Saturn 7. PS2 8. PC Engine / Turbo-Grafx 9. Mega Drive 10. Atari 2600 Honorable mention: Sega Master and XBox 360
How is the ps4 not in top 3, some of the best exclusive games there’s ever been, great price, great graphics, PS plus, second best selling console of all time?? Am I missing something?
How tf is the switch higher than ps4. I’m sorry, but I can’t respect it because Nintendo purposefully sold broken controllers which you need to play certain games properly. And the no.1 spot is bs, Idc if it was the first, the improvements in tech that have happened in the past 30 years are countless
@@madeusedward0049 and off your ideology shouldn't the one X be No1 mean it's the strongest... Fact is Nes did what it did when gaming wasn't mainstream... You think 100m is amazing... The amount the nes sold back then is much more amazing. It had so many great games... Starts of major franchises. All of nintendo mascots. Megaman, contra, I could go on
The SNES is the best console in my opinion. The list of great games is nearly endless (Super Mario World 1 & 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy VI, Street Fighter 2, Earthworm Jim, Turtles in Time, Sim City, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid...), and the Controller aged also very well.
Do you know that of the 101 games that Nintendo made for both the NES and the SNES, more than 50 are best on the NES, and another 30 are a tie. The SNES was great at reality distortion, and highly overrated as game machine. The reason for that: a spain-in-the-ass slow CPU that could hardly handle any enemy AI or game complexity.
Why add Handhelds in this list? They are a different form than actual consoles. It's not like you couldn't think of other consoles: Sega Saturn, Xbox One, Wii U, Colecovision, Intellevision, Atari 5200, 7800, Jaguar. You have almost hundreds of Consoles to put in this list. You don't need Handhelds
Nintendo Wii has to be AT LEAST top 10... Commercially a beast, innovative and heavily influential motion controls, and a plethora of blockbuster games. This console basically DEFINES home consol gaming.
I wouldn't know about 'plethora of blockbuster games'. I mean, as much as I love the system, no one can deny that all those godforsaken shovelware games REALLY held it back quite a lot, even if it did sell more than its competitors...

@@voltingmaster5458 True, but it's lineup of games is phenomenal.
I think that the troubled launch and the issue that 3rd party games ran better on 360 (usually) affected it. Great console tho
@@frankjoz2803 that's for the PS3 but not the 4
Completely agree. They just nail their first party games. The only console I believe to still have a better library than the PS3 and PS4 is the SNES.

So glad i still have my dreamcast, ps2, and ps3 in great working condition. They are some of my favorite consoles of all time
Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis will always be the best in my book.
Both of which were beaten by late-lifetime NES titles. NES games that came out against the SNES/MD are outperforming both platforms! But the best of all was the console you never encountered in "The Battle", the third dog running away with the bone is the PC Engine. The G.C.O.A.T.
“The Genesis’ audio was better than that of the SNES”?
What?

Number 1 I can agree
The NES is the reason why we even _had_ a videogame industry in the US in the '90s, though. The reason why it looks like a VCR and was called an "entertainment system" was because US retailers didn't want to touch videogames with a 100' pole after the crash in '83, so I would agree with WatchMojo on this one. It was the lifesaver of the industry.

A man of great taste. The PlayStation 2 and the Sega Genesis are my #1 and #2. Been gaming since the early 90s.

Has no sense,

@@bruceleeroy8302 well I wouldn't necessarily say the magnavox is a better console than the NES. the magnavox's games are very, very basic, and that should be no surprise given the fact that it is part of the 1st gen consoles.
