@@jponz85the list is not about the best console, it's about the greatest console. You have to take into account historical context, impact in society when it came out, among other things. If it was about The Best console then all the places in the list would go up from generation to generation. Also Atari started the entire home-console market almost by itself and Wii revolutionised the way games are played to the point that today almost no console is released without motion sensor on the controller... Also after the Wii release both Sony and Microsoft had to release their own version of motion controllers in PS3 and XBox 360.
In a way yes. The SNES was good on paper, and only a handful composers were able to deal with the very complicated hardware, like David Wise. Also the SNES greatly lost chiptune charm being near perfect CD quality in theory. On the other side, the FM synth in the MD was a pain in the butt to program as well, and only in recent years, thanks to tools like DEXED, we can finally access the full potential of FM synthesis. I think previous consoles like the NES and PC Engine are way more interesting sonically.
The NES is the reason why we even _had_ a videogame industry in the US in the '90s, though. The reason why it looks like a VCR and was called an "entertainment system" was because US retailers didn't want to touch videogames with a 100' pole after the crash in '83, so I would agree with WatchMojo on this one. It was the lifesaver of the industry.
@@kriscynical lifesaver doesn't = a bettet console. The ps2 was the better system. And I'm not talking about graphics because its obvious the ps2 was better since it came about way after the nes
PS4 and ps3 are tied for me. I’ve had every main console since the first nes in 1987, and the last 2 gens have been, far and away my favorite when looking at Sony’s first party games lineup.
I agree. Sony is awesome for their 1st party games. But in my opinion PS2 > PS4 > PS3 > PS1. And I love all four consoles. However, the PS2 was a console that truly had something for everyone. No other console has been able to capture what the PS2 accomplished. The AAA games on the PS4/PS3 are spectacular, but I think the PS4 is better because the DualShock 3 was a terrible controller. Then you have the PS1, which was the best disc-based console of the 90s, next to the Dreamcast.
Jazzy Jazz I think the PS2 has the worst lineup of exclusives. I would go PS4 > PS3 > PS1 > PS2. Of course it’s not a bad console but had a huge amount of 3rd party support.
Got mine in 2010 from my aunt. Sly 3 was my main game followed by Harry Potter and the goblet of fire. Ps2 is the best console with Xbox360 in second place by a wide margin
I wouldn't say the years in service should determine it. But yeah the PS4 has nearly the entire last generation of games + Sony exclusives, and the Switch has bad ports of some of the games of the last 7 years with the 4 or 5 Nintendo exclusives worth playing.
I guess experience is subjective for everyone but I enjoyed playing my switch a lot more than my ps4. I only have time to play my ps4 maybe once a week due to work and family but I can play my switch everyday. The switch is truly a godsend for people with limited gaming hour. I mean even if the spec is not as great, it can play AAA games on the go and that's amazing.
#2 you forgot to mention probably the best game of all time GTA- SAN ANDREAS I used to spend Hours every day playing that, there is always something to do even after you complete the mission's (I am 50 year's old).

It's tRAYantula708! Wii U isn’t a bad console but shouldn’t be anywhere near this list and the Wii hasn’t aged well. Was a staple of my living room in 2006, hasn’t been anywhere near the loving room since 2010.
Franco Benecchi the Wii sold very well and was successful but has one of the worst games lineup of any successful console. Even the Wii U’s is better in my opinion.
PS2 Honestly should've been #1 here. Highest number of games with a very diverse library, most systems sold, longest supported lifespan(?), made dvd playback relevant and affordable and it had backwards compatibility.
@@Defender1876 And how is that relevant to what is the best system? Nintendo screwed over Sony which in turn created a more successful system line. Or are you saying that because it came first? If so then I guess I can say without something like the Fairchild Channel F there would be no Nintendo anything so that must mean it's the best system.
Mmm no, Quantity does not mean quality, and although Ps2 is very good, it is not because it has had 2000 games or because it has sold more. Just because it has sold more does not mean it is the best and neither of those 2000 games were all good. Has no sense, how pathetic, because then the best game in the world would be Minecraft because it is the most sold. Ps2 is good where it is in position 2 and Nes in 1 for being the lifeguard of consoles and although I like it more PS2 is not the best console either.
Thank you for putting the NES as number 1. I know how great the PS2 was for most people but if the PS2 didn't exist, you'd still have great games from Xbox, Gamecube and even Dreamcast. Without the NES, the game console would be dead! We would have almost nothing at the time. Also, many of the classics are still enjoyable 30 years later, and that is saying something.
By that logic, the Magnavox Odyssey should be the greatest console of all time, since there was nothing else competing with it at the time and also the fact that video games wouldn't be here without its existence. Just because a console came first, doesn't mean its the best. Also, in terms of classics as a whole, the SNES simply whoops the NES's ass. The NES was based on 8-bit sprites that have aged very poorly as time has gone on. Its games lack depth in game design, gameplay, atmosphere, music, difficulty, consistency, replayability, and visual fidelity. Meanwhile, SNES games still play and look absolutely sublime even to this day! The 16 bit sprites and amazing consistency across all of its games help establish the SNES as an enjoyable platform that is still worth revisiting. The SNES was made to perfect the 2d era of gaming, refining some rough edges from the NES. it is unanimously agreed upon across many video game critics that the SNES was the perfection of the 2d era of gaming, whereas the NES was only the pioneer of the 2d era of games.
@@laithghamyan1901 Yeah, you’re right. The Magnavox was every bit as innovative as the NES with all its classic game franchises and 3rd party licenses. I honestly don’t know a single person who grew up with the Magnavox who didn’t want or own one. I stand correct. Congrats bro
@@bruceleeroy8302 well I wouldn't necessarily say the magnavox is a better console than the NES. the magnavox's games are very, very basic, and that should be no surprise given the fact that it is part of the 1st gen consoles. My favorite systems from this list is the Nintendo Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Game Boy Color, Playstation 4, Nintendo 64, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and the Playstation 2. Enough said.
Both of which were beaten by late-lifetime NES titles. NES games that came out against the SNES/MD are outperforming both platforms! But the best of all was the console you never encountered in "The Battle", the third dog running away with the bone is the PC Engine. The G.C.O.A.T.
My top 10 in no order: PS4 PS3 (plays PS1, some also play PS2) PS2 (plays PS1) Switch (has good collection of NES and SNES games too) Xbox1S (plays XB and XB360 games too) N64 Genesis Wii (early versions play Gamecube games too) SNES NES Alternate/more condensed list: PS4 PS3 PS2 Switch XB1S Wii modded mini console or laptop that plays everything from PS/N64/GBA era and prior 3DS XL
The gaming Consoles that I have are Snes, N64, Wii, Wii U, Ps2, PS3, Ps4, Xbox, 2ds xl, PSP, Psvita and Switch. Though I do wish I had a NeoGeo pocket color.
I love the PS4 the most. But I also enjoyed PS2, Wii, Gamecube growing up, and PS3 my early teen years. Also shout out to the PSP for being my portable system. And also got to own the SNES mini and had played with my older cousins the N64.
@@DesolateSecluded cause in my opinion, the xbox one was disappointing compared to the ps4. Xbox one has halo, gears of war, forza, and rare replay. Ps4 has persona, god of war, bloodborne, uncharted, last of us, heavy rain and more. xbox one has the better online experience Ps4 has a good main menu unlike the xbox ones cluster fuck.
Do you know that of the 101 games that Nintendo made for both the NES and the SNES, more than 50 are best on the NES, and another 30 are a tie. The SNES was great at reality distortion, and highly overrated as game machine. The reason for that: a spain-in-the-ass slow CPU that could hardly handle any enemy AI or game complexity.

If it was about The Best console then all the places in the list would go up from generation to generation. Also Atari started the entire home-console market almost by itself and Wii revolutionised the way games are played to the point that today almost no console is released without motion sensor on the controller... “The Genesis’ audio was better than that of the SNES”?
What?
In a way yes. The SNES was good on paper, and only a handful composers were able to deal with the very complicated hardware, like David Wise. Also the SNES greatly lost chiptune charm being near perfect CD quality in theory. On the other side, the FM synth in the MD was a pain in the butt to program as well, and only in recent years, thanks to tools like DEXED, we can finally access the full potential of FM synthesis. I think previous consoles like the NES and PC Engine are way more interesting sonically.

Number 1 I can agree
I think that the troubled launch and the issue that 3rd party games ran better on 360 (usually) affected it. Great console tho
@@frankjoz2803 that's for the PS3 but not the 4
Completely agree. They just nail their first party games. The only console I believe to still have a better library than the PS3 and PS4 is the SNES.
Jazzy Jazz I think the PS2 has the worst lineup of exclusives. I would go PS4 > PS3 > PS1 > PS2. Of course it’s not a bad console but had a huge amount of 3rd party support.

Spider-Man 3 the movie
I don't think the switch should be higher than the ps4 in just 3 years of its lifetime. That's ridiculous.
I wouldn't say the years in service should determine it. But yeah the PS4 has nearly the entire last generation of games + Sony exclusives, and the Switch has bad ports of some of the games of the last 7 years with the 4 or 5 Nintendo exclusives worth playing.
The Switch is the best console ever made in the last decade
I guess experience is subjective for everyone but I enjoyed playing my switch a lot more than my ps4. I only have time to play my ps4 maybe once a week due to work and family but I can play my switch everyday. The switch is truly a godsend for people with limited gaming hour. I mean even if the spec is not as great, it can play AAA games on the go and that's amazing.

Idk most people i knew used it as a dvd player but i can why it should be
Hard agree
u do know with out the nes there would be no sony ps any number
@@Defender1876 And how is that relevant to what is the best system? Nintendo screwed over Sony which in turn created a more successful system line. Or are you saying that because it came first? If so then I guess I can say without something like the Fairchild Channel F there would be no Nintendo anything so that must mean it's the best system.
Mmm no, Quantity does not mean quality, and although Ps2 is very good, it is not because it has had 2000 games or because it has sold more.
Just because it has sold more does not mean it is the best and neither of those 2000 games were all good. Has no sense,
how pathetic, because then the best game in the world would be Minecraft because it is the most sold.
Ps2 is good where it is in position 2 and Nes in 1 for being the lifeguard of consoles and although I like it more PS2 is not the best console either.
I lived off gamecube and n64 I recently Bought them again because there amazing

The SNES was great at reality distortion, and highly overrated as game machine. The reason for that: a spain-in-the-ass slow CPU that could hardly handle any enemy AI or game complexity.
