    I now understand where the warts came from on some tiny ribs I had designed into an injection molded part. Thank you!

    I happen to have bought a power supply for a japax brand edm machine, and I'm having a hard time finding info on it. I was hoping you could answer a couple questions, if you get this. Thanks!!

    Nice video, i work in the area how many passes you do on the wire machine to get that finish, 2/3 ?

    • @zerotolerancecnc
      @zerotolerancecnc 3 года назад +1

      We usually use 4-5 passes if it needs to be very accurate. Thanks for watching!

    how much force does the electrode react? Just spitballing, but I'm trying to imagine ways that the machine might control a lateral profile (so you could do a revolved surface), and mechanical reaction force at the electrode seems like a big factor. One could imagine a thick band with its ends controlled to make a shape. Maybe that already exists.

    If that gotcha at the end was staged then the jokes on you.... Take a closer look at that surface plate it landed on 😂

    I am thinking of buying a used wire edm machine (< $10k). I have not seen much information on used EDM equipment being risky or not? I have never run an EDM machine before. I want to make custom load cells and need wire EDM for the strain gage flextures. Do you have any insight into purchasing used EDM equipment and maybe some controls to stay away from or to look for. Thanks.

      In my experience, the main 3 things are these
      Old tech (Agies are amazing but you'll be programming by hand or punch card if you buy the wrong model)
      Wear (you know it, we all hate it)
      Finicky-ness (not really wear, you can replace basically everything and this'll remain)
      When i say finicky i mean things like the wire randomly snapping in the mechanism if you use one specific brand of wire and curling if you use another.
      I bought my USB-converted Agie for $2k and the only real problem i've stumbled on (and stumped the former owner) was how the mechanism would break almost all wires except for a 0.15 wire from a UK company

      When I started my shop my first EDM's were old used Charmilles and I fixed them up and they ran great for years. Then I upgraded to a newer Charmilles and eventually outgrew the tank size and now have the Eagle & Mits

    What kind of stepover do you recommend when milling the electrode....?

    • @zerotolerancecnc
      @zerotolerancecnc 3 года назад +1

      On a finish pass, I'd say .002- 004 depending on the diameter of the ball cutter. It also depends on the overall size of the electrode & what finish you're looking for.

    Amazing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
    I'm impressed about the speed of the EDM.
    I work with a Charmilles Form 20, do you thik it's possible to work with the same speed?
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @zerotolerancecnc
      @zerotolerancecnc 3 года назад +1

      Yes, we had a 2013 Charmilles Form 20 and it burned very well & it could burn with similar speeds.

    No surface grinding between all these steps.....?

    • @zerotolerancecnc
      @zerotolerancecnc 3 года назад +1

      The inserts that came to us were ground, the EDM processes shown required no grinding.
