Make sure to keep track of everything that can be a deduction on your taxes, as most gig jobs will have you fill out a 1099. You can claim deductions for mileage, per diem, business expenses, and more!
Thanks for bringing this up I can see it's received a lot of attention. The only thing with taxes is I don't want to give you incorrect information as I'm not a tax professional or CPA . I'm an expert in what I know and don't pretend to be a tax expert, hope you guys understand. When it comes to taxes for the past 2 years I've done Turbo Tax self employed, they just ask you what 1099 income sources you have, you'll list gross revenue then corresponding mileage. They'll also ask if you want the standard mileage deduction or itemized deduction and you'll follow the respective prompts.
Another important thing to consider is where the drop-off will leave you...sometimes I get decent orders that take me to areas that are purely residential, with no restaurants around...so I have to drive back to an area where there's a probability of orders...so I am "riding empty" as truckers say. Important to consider this.
I pretty much decline all drive through orders now, especially if it is a red card order. I will only pick up from fast food places where I can walk up. The only exception will be Chick Fil A, which they bring out when you arrive. They are usually pretty good but I did have a couple instances where I ended up waiting 20 - 25 minutes.
Dude- u shud be investing in OWNING a chic filay, not delivering for them- get $10,000 and a great location n apply online for ur own franchise, cause if u don’t, the next guy will
Yooper Author no, I’ve had 5 food businesses- all successful failures- now I’m 60 and so many men are humping their butts to chase that delivery for one more dollar when if they had the guts to go get the stoopid franchise and run it themselves. Franchises are BEGGING for new owners, as long as your LOCATION fits their agenda. Chic fila only wants $10,000. I’ve spent over a million on my failures. So why not give these men the push that they need.
The problem is where I live we never ever get more than 2 dollar peak pay and it's usually only 1 dollar and doesn't happen very often. We simply cannot make that kind of money here. The tips always suck and we are forced to take 5 and 6 dollar orders because that is about 90 percent of the orders we get 5 percent are lower and don't get accepted and the other 5 percent are the occasional 7 and 8 dollar orders
I see DD is the only app in your marketplace? That does make it tough since they're the only game in town. Sounds like a smaller marketplace too? Any other niches you could look into?
@@YourDriverMike I do instacart too but it's just as slow and when they finally do have batches They are just way to little pay fro the size of the order. Other than that no! there's nothing else we can do here. We just have to deal with low pay and not many orders because being the only game in town it is also way over saturated with drivers. I'm lucky If I make 200 bucks a week
I dash in Florida too, the other night Wellington had a $5 peak pay, you just gotta be in the right area honestly. I travel to other areas to do my dashing, I don't dash in my own resident area, it helps to expand
After doing my first 4hr shift tonight, I think DD algorithm route higher orders to specific people. Base pay was $3. $2 peak. My. Entire shift all of my orders were $10+ with very short distances. My son was in the same zone and kept getting $7-$8 orders. He started last week. I’ve only done 118 total. I get high orders back to back but he doesn’t.
@Alpha omega Ilc. Yea but that’s probably because other dashers saw that high peak pay and decided to dash at the same time as you so you had more competition out there.
@@owencollins4790 I experimented it too. I have the customer app and tried to order during peak hours... It costs more, so I know the customer is paying.
I will take stacked orders sent together by DD as long as they’re somewhat reasonable because I take into account that I only have to go to one pickup (to 2 customers) which saves me a lot of time.
The high pay is the region your working in. It has nothing to do with being close to a restaurant with lots of orders. Unless being within 5 miles is close to you.
I would love to see a video that walks me and talks me through a full door dash after the fact... so record it in the moment, leave that hard to focus background music out, and talk me slowly through the process of an order coming in - what do you look at, what helps you to decide whether to take the order or not, what are the things you consider? Once you take the order, talk us through the details of how the app works from there. My first order took me forever to figure out how to do everything in a timely manner and I ended up getting tagged as not having delivered it on time, when in fact, I had delivered it at least 5-10 minutes early. Also, where do you put your purse? Some of the areas I deliver to are not the most trustworthy and full of character, integrity, and respect. I worry about my purse when I jump out to run a delivery up to a house. Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today: 1. How do I look at the screen and know whether it is worth my time and drive? 2. How do I know what the full amount of miles will be? 3. Once finished, do I drive back toward a hotspot to pick up another delivery or stay where I'm at? 4. Is there a way to tell where I'm being sent ahead of time? (I live in Indiana and it sent me across the border to a rough neighborhood in Illinois today. I grew up in a neighborhood like that and I know what goes on. I was not prepared and should never have been over there.) 5. How do you go into the app and send the customer a text? Are you doing this through the app or through your own text message? 6. I actually live in a rough and unsafe area... How do I drive to a safer area where I can work? Do I have to find the hotspot or can I just go to the area and then pick up orders from there? 7. What app or process do you use for tracking mileage, vehicle maintenance, etc? 8. I know I'm missing some things. For a type A - Highly sensitive personality and a total introvert (functional introvert but nonetheless...), I was a little overwhelmed with it all. I wish I could have had time to play in a "test" version to really learn my way around the app and figure out how to navigate it but because they don't offer that, I need a video that at least takes the time to show these things - and preferably, a previously recorded dash that has been gone back through and voiced over to explain everything...
One tip I have is if you can, work the hallmark holidays during the day. Fathers day, mothers day, valentines, admin day, boss day, etc. I worked mothers day last year (my mom lives in a different state) and I averaged $70 an hour on a four hour shift. As for taxes, use a tax program. I use tax act and while I declared 5700 last year, I paid zero taxes on my doordash side gig.
I stack orders between multiple platforms including dd. Make $35-$45 average in the poway area when I visit my family working solo. Working 11:30-1 and 4:30-7:30.

Hey I'm a dasher my is Dwayne am always looking at your show, question my account got deactivated is there anyway can you help me out just asking. Thank you
Dwayne Burnett hey there not sure theirs much you can do but maybe email/contact support if you were deactivated for no reason, but if your ratings were low like 4.2 or lower then not sure you can do much about that maybe sign up for skip the dishes good luck tho
Yeah that works great out in California, but that’s not relevant on other locations. Here in Daytona beach Florida (which is a tourist town) you never see 21 dollar orders unless it’s Walmart. The average is about 9 to 10
Just a note is very different in Columbus GA, snsllish town not CALI, so when you mention good and bad amounts of money, it is all relative to one's area. I loved your idea of a spread sheet comparing peak pay to non peak pay. I also have been finding that Saturday is so saturated with drivers that I do much better during the week. Even though the orders tend to be for less, the resteraunts are much quicker, less backed up. And more orders because there are less drivers.
I’m surrounded by 7-10 restaurants in my area, but i average 4.50 per offer (not per order that i accept) and 6mi per offer. My acceptance rate is 2% thanks to this
What I learned last week is Don't accept orders from Walmart, 7-11 and Walgreens. Most of the time you have to go inside and shop yourself which gonna take lot of time for the amount of money paid. I have to go shop at Walgreens yesterday for 8.5 dollar which took me more than 30 minute and the costumer was unhappy because I couldn't find all the items and he rated me 1 star.
Learned that on with Instacart and a CVS order. I don't take those kinds of orders anymore. It was $101.00 worth of candy, and a bunch of stuff I couldn't find and took me way to long to find the stuff!
Similar to what S.J. mentioned and Shipt comes to mind for me, shopping for items especially in a store you're unfamiliar with can take a lot of time. If it's a Shipt order from a place I've shopped before though sometimes I can be in and out pretty fast
What exactly does “desirability” entail? You didn’t explain that. Does that mean that certain drivers carry more desirability and tend to get offered better orders (maybe due to high ratings, etc)?
Has anyone had a contract violating from an order that never arrived but you actually delivered it ? I got one today and I definitely made the delivery
Yeah always take a pic no matter what. There are a lot of dishonest people that will do that just to get a free meal, or they'll blame you if the restaurant is slow and try to take it out on you.
I was wondering if you could talk about the mileage with DD. Sometimes when I get an order it will say 2.7 miles so I excepted and then when I get the food and click on the directions the mileage will change to something like 5.2 miles. What is that? Why is there such a difference in the mileage after I take it? I have noticed that on a few orders.
Man..NV has insanely bad base pay && incoming orders. I gave DD a try back in early 2019 just to check it out & it wasn't bad in SoCal. Fast forward to now, I need extra flow & have moved to NV. It blows my mind at all the $3 dashes for 6+ miles and rarely any peak pay past $2. I stay away from the strip because its SO much effort for literal crumbs. Beyond frustrating. Made $65 today (Fri) while out on the road for 6hrs!! Found this page while waiting on orders & look forward to the content. I hope it helps me here!!
In my experience, you cannot avoid having ditch the low-pay orders to get to this one. I've had orders like this, but they usually come ONLY after I've ditched 3 or 4 orders that were either explicitly NOT worth my time AND ditched orders that were borderline to finally end up with this.
Drive thru orders are very convenient but late at night is trash. Ive waited at McDonald's for 40 minutes before. And taco bell typically will be out of food close to closing time. Restaurants dont have as many employees later at night ive noticed and thats when everybody wants to go get some drivethru food. Its a waste
To be honest, I don't like the shopping with the card or even the items to purchase with the card on the drive thru because it takes too much time. Although just watching and listening to your videos helps me out alot to try and make more money on a weekly pay. I try so much to not take the low paying orders because it takes too much of my time, when I should concentrate on the bigger payouts as you have mentioned. And I took the part the part when you said that a Hotspot does not really give you something to deliver. I've tested it and that is so true. With Doordash they will not give me a delivery right away until I have confirmed the deliveries. Uber on the other hand gives me deliveries continously even before I confirmed a delivery which Uber really keeps me busy throughout the day, nights, and mornings. Thanks again for your videos and tips.
Nice video, I quit doing drive-thru orders due to the time issue, I also quit accepting any ride that takes me too far out of my zone, working out nicely so far here in Uptown/NODA in Charlotte.
I've taken Drive-Thru orders in my area and now I realise how much of a time sink they are. Now I should probably just take fast food orders from the 3 places that have their lobbies open during the day . MCD, TB and BK. The rest are not worth the headache.
O my, I be complaining about delivering past 2 miles and a lot of ppl do way more than 2 miles. Like driving 5 miles just to drop off some food for $8 is ridiculous. So now I can be very thankful and grateful for getting 1.5 miles for $9 or orders that's the max of 2 miles away for $8+
I think your video's explain a lot about Doordash strategy and how to make good pay, but honestly I don't think it works for every market place or other cities. If the pay is as good as your video's is, then everyone would be happy doing Doordash but thats not the case for a lot of the drivers in different places. I think a lot have to do with being lucky for the day. I see a lot of RUclipsr say its great but they never show the bad days of Doordash.
Question is are those who complain about everything doing anything to learn how to do it better and make more money? I see a lot of people who get into the gig economy who are JOB minded, and then they don't understand why they don't get benefits, they don't get all the stuff that one gets with a job, but what job will let you sign on and work when it is convenient and not work when say like tonight I had a migraine. I think these job minded people just want to show up and do whatever and expect to make the same money as people who work harder at it and study and learn from those who go before them.
@@RiverWoods111 OK, I'm saying not everyone makes the same amount of money. Even if you try very hard to get orders, its up to Doordash to distribute the orders to the driver. I'm NOT complaining, just giving the facts that I experienced. And if you like dashing then its fine. I'm just telling my experiences in my area in NYC. So you're telling me your making a lot of money out of this? Then what's your strategy? When I Doordash, I do what I can as a delivery. Nothing is given or guaranteed for that day or how much you're going to make for that day.
@@Matchbox20208 I do get it not all areas are created equal. I generally deliver pretty much to multimillion dollar homes. I mean for all I know there could be a celebrity in these homes. LMBO! Not that I would know who they are! Even the apartment complexes I deliver to are very expensive to live in. I still hear a lot of people complaining, and if an area isn't profitable then I would find another gig. I am just using this to fill in while I am getting my Freelance Illustration work back up and going. The nighttime gigs really leave me free to design all day before I go out for a few hours. (Oh I wasn't saying you were complaining, I was saying that a lot of people who complain really want a job with out the commitment of the job. The best of both worlds).
@@RiverWoods111 Everyone have their own opinions on this Doordash delivery job. Its a good job if thats what people are into. I'm just doing this until school starts for me in September. I like doing the deliverys but its just that when I get a bad day on deliverys and not make much, I just get frustrated and mad.
@@RiverWoods111 working harder at it is only something that comes with experience. Keeping customers updated and making sure to ask if the restaurant has the right food (because we can't check bags anymore) is really the only customer service we have most if the time. Its hard to shine your personality to a door, or thru texting emojii. So much if the success is hidden behind supply and demand... time if day... market changes, weather. To say you just need to work harder, that means I need to work 12 hours to make less than you do in your market for 5 hours. Its so skewed.
Where I live I have to figure in round trip miles, that is what really counts. I don't live in a sprawling metropolis like you. I live in Lees Summit MO. Let me give an example of orders I reject: say I get an offer of $13 for a 10 miles dash. I have to reject it. 10 miles takes me outside city limits. At this distance I never have another order in that area when I get there (OK, one time I did but it lead me even further away from my city). Let me show you the math for this. Round trip miles is 20 miles. At 60 mph that would take 20 minutes. But, I am not driving highways I am driving through town at 25 - 30 mph. At 30 mph 20 miles would take 40 minutes, now add in time at stop signs and stop lights, about 10 minutes. Now it is 50 - 60 minutes and a full gallon of gas at $2 a gallon. Now the math again: $13 -$2 = $11 for one hour of my time and 1 hour wear and tear on my car. This is a bad offer and Doordash does it all the time and penalizes me for not accepting them.
@@FL3345 I have done this a few times but no more. $11 for one hour in this economy will not work unless you are living in your parents basement and have no bills.
@@johnnyblaze9217 I work out of a Rental car right now. I'm saving my money for a Bike. Once I get a Bike I won't have to worry about Gas. The only problem with doing Door Dash off a Bike is the weather and keeping your tires up.
My Peak Pay yesterday night from 4-7:30pm was so bad that I didn't ger any order for 1and half hours. Then I just quit for the night and went home. It was frustrating to be scheduled for the peak pay and I drove 30 minutes to the peak pay area and then waited and waited. Then went to 3 hot spots and got no orders. Doordash app needs to be improved to that if there's too many drivers delivering for the night, they should just straight up tell you to go home. Sometimes its very disappointing on what Doordash do to people trying to make a decent pay.
The secret is don't dash in peak pay areas. You have to be top dasher to do so because doordash gives them priority over everyone else. Instead dash in a zone with the smallest peak pay or none at all. Trust me it works because everyone and their momma is rushing to the peak pay areas leaving the other areas wide open with very little competition.
I got to hot spot and then run both DD and Postmates at the same time. Often I work in Postmates more than Door Dash, but DD gets to where there are orders. Unless Door dash is paying me peak pay...
@@RiverWoods111 I go to Doordash hot spots but everyone gets different results on orders. Some have to wait longer than others. For me, I end up waiting for a long time. Then I sometimes used the UberEats app.
@@RiverWoods111 I'm saying doing Doordash or UberEats, everyone's earning is different in different areas. I would sometimes want to see the negative or bad days of people doing Doordashing and not always see people making a lot of money doing Doordash. The video's makes it look so easy making the money in deliverys but in fact its hard.
ive only had bad experiences from sonic. one time the emploeyes forgot about me twice and then ignored me after that. i cancled the order after 20 min.
Not the one here. When the orders here pay enogh to accept them I've never had to wait more than 2 or 3 minutes. The biggest problem is Sonic is on the other side of town and almost never pays enough to be acceptable either they don't tip enough to make it acceptable or they don't tip at all. So a lot of sonic orders are going to waste
I really enjoy how you just get straight to the point and are very clear and helpful thank you some of the other instructional videos I had to force myself to sit through two minutes of it I could not get through the whole thing so thank you I appreciate your in-depth instructions and how you break everything down
Quick question. I had to deliver an order that was completely out of my area and once I was there I was getting no orders and had to drive back to my area. Was I just unlucky once I got to a new area or are you not allowed to deliver in a area you weren’t assigned to?
Don’t choose far areas. Set your own limits before you dash. What I do is set a limit for distance, and pay. Nothing under 5$ and nothing further than 13 miles. I will make 100-140 a day. The first days I would go far and take any order and would only make 60-70 a day
I try to consider that even though an order is only 4-5, if I’m efficient and the customer takes notice on that, they will tip after you’re completed your order, turning that 4-5 dollar order into a 9-10 dollar order. The only thing about that is the risk you take for relying on the customer to tip. At the end of the day you’re doing what you signed up for.
I’ve had orders with huge tips for orders less that 10 bucks, so I’d recommend taking these small orders only if it isn’t as busy as usual, and you’ll be surprised how generous and sweet people can be!
I hear you on the strategy, from my experience most customers on DD do not adjust their tips after the delivery has been completed. This is a stark difference to UE where most all customers add a delivery after the order has been dropped off. Hand off deliveries on DD may give you a higher chance to win a tip however.
Mike I really hope you see this. I live in San Diego and I’m door dashing in mission valley. Pay is ok. My question for you is, which areas did you find to be the most profitable? La Jolla spring valley etc etc?
Hey buddy, first time watching, tip, if your by or close to the restaurant, if you got a $11 7miles order, gotta factor in that if your driving 6 to 7 miles to house, that means you have to drive back to hot spots 6 or 7 miles, so really your making about 97 cents a mile 😥🤔🤔 , I most likely wouldn't take it. BUT if house isn't too far away from hot spots then yeah
doordash is tricky. ive had scheduled shifts with large gaps between orders making low money and also times where i hopped on and wound up very glad i did cause i got consecutive good orders (quickies, or big $$) unexpectantly.
I wish you could do a survey that set your preferences for these apps. Turn off/dislike/ favorite certain merchants and the algorithm would adjust to that. I got a jewel shop and deliver for $39 to go like 6 miles away a while back, loveeee. Today I took a shipt Best buy drop off and on the way I got a walmart in store pickup drop off for $32/5 orders, 1 bag each. So it was 2 pickups (bby/ walmart) and 6 drop offs, alot of miles but the shipt bby order was perfectly on the route for the DD walmart order and all of it was $55 for about 1 hours worth of work. Good day:)
The only draw back is going to the merchant and its always taking 25mins+ to get in and out of line. Or when you only get 3$ orders to take food over 9 miles
Yeah here in kansas city it does not matter what area you are in you will never receive more than $1 peak pay. with that being said in order to get the biggest orders, prepare for your acceptance rate to TANK (which btw does not matter as there is no minimum) as you will have a decline until you get the orders you are happy with. Once in a blue moon will i ever see a SINGLE $18 order (only happened to me three times, the other few it was 2 orders)
I'm forced into a 60% acceptance rate due to poor area. I'm constantly sent $3 total orders for $50 worth of food & 10 mile trips + to cross a major traffic jammed bridge nearby. I constantly deny & report, small base pay on every order. I don't know who would take those jobs. If we all just simply refuse ALL jobs under $2/mile then we would be good
I only go on busy hours until it slows down which usually only lasts about 4-5 hours and I make around $120 each session. I take orders that are at least $2/km. I live in Canada so it’s in KM not Miles
The problem I've come to recently is that I've had to contact customer service unassigned orders at times when I didn't get a chance to see how long the drive was because the app started glitching up and I didn't want to miss it. they tried to get me to drive from South lake Tahoe to Tacoma which is on a Friday night an hour each way 33 mi each way for $17 at a Safeway. Then I got another order for a 13 Mile drive for like $7 and I wasn't paying attention and could not assign it. I started watching some door dash videos videos and realize that cherry picking is probably the best method instead of accepting every order that comes through. after I started doing this I noticed that they started to give me a lot of three and four and five dollar orders literally seven to ten I've been a row and I have been putting me in pause mode every 30 seconds until I and my dash just to get me off of the platform and signed out. They've actually signed me out several times during dashes when I minimize the window.
Thanks for watching Jonathan, tricky because I notice a few things there. Firstly of course make sure to pay attention to the order request screen so you don't accidentally accept sub par orders. Second as you continue to dash you'll pick up on market specific averages. What I mean is maybe a $8 payout is the highest it typically gets there, maybe $7. Regardless that dollars:mile is key. As far as the time outs also drive on other platforms if you don't already because maybe DD just isn't that strong in your market for drivers. I wouldn't lower my pay standards, I would continue to ignore low payouts which is good
I had a stack order yesterday, 8.50 for five miles, then the other order was 2.75 miles for an additional 2.75, I didnt think it was worth it to wait because I had to wait already on the food I was there for already so I declined it, only because I felt like it wouldnt be fair to the customer to have to wait on someone else's food.... any ideas on this type of stacked orders ???
This happens to me today. An extra 3 miles back to my starting point for 7 extra but my first order from the restaurant was already 12 minutes late. Hurt a little bit but declined it.
Hi Tarheel, I would accept a stacked order if it paid out $1.50+/mile. As far as your customer's wait time that is just how these apps work. On Uber Eats for example your customer may pay extra for "Priority Delivery" which delivers directly to them with no other orders.
@@YourDriverMike Ok, I had a stack the other day, so I was waiting at arbys for food, then a wendys order came through with good money prob 2$ more a mile, so I declined it because by the time I left arbys and went to get the wendys food it would have been a way longer time to deliver, Im having trouble on what to do with these stacks....and what my rating will be ....drive thru dashing is a nightmare with these fast food joints .....
@@YourDriverMike ... forgot to mention and it gave me like 15 min. to deliver the wendys order when I hadnt even left arbys yet.... confused on these deliver by times
@@FL3345 I, personally, have strong thoughts about 2 things: 1)Getting warm/hot food to these customers 2) NOT stressing myself out. So, as a result, I never do stacked orders. Never. The few pennies may be a little better, but It just saves me from headaches.
My issue is that dd keeps trying to push me out of my zone and constantly tries to force me into a couple of cities over in a dangerous area.. So ive had to start declining orders & I've gotten less work ever since. Everyone says that acceptance rates dont matter but i would get back to back and frequent stacked orders until i declined my first order & now i wont get an order for my first hour of dashing & will often have 15 or more minutes in between orders. Even next to restaurants i know are getting flooded & its very busy in the area. I worked a thursday in a not very busy area and could not catch my breath vs now on busy weekends where i have downtime?? Its a bummer
Definitely agree with the higher peak pay = less gross per hour/per shift. Live over in hawaii and if I see the 4.50 pay bump I generally wont go because it feels like the app offers more money per delivery to validate having an excess of drivers in a location that is assumed to be super busy on that day? So you will be sitting a lot more often, I usually see quite a few people hanging out in hotspots waiting during those bonuses. Usually I try a mix of hanging out for 10 mins and then driving through & around the outskirts. But I usually have a killer day around the 2-3 bump range
Exactly maybe they're over estimating demand levels and use the high peak pay to get drivers out but what just happens is over saturation. That's why it's so important to look at your numbers because the data tells the story!
@@YourDriverMike for sure! Ive definitely been trying to get a feel for it all but its generally all over the place out here. Started mixing it up with instacart during the downtimes to keep a constant flow going and thats helped a ton 🤙🏻
If the drive through isn’t isolated by a curb, I just cut in the drive through line straight to the window bc you’re not placing an order anyways so you don’t need to talk to the speaker box
Elise D keep in mind that the restaurant rates drivers as well, so you just want to keep as much confusion down as possible. Don't want to upset anyone. It's not a bad idea, but it's a chance you are taking.
I did my first day in my area in tucson doing gig driving. For about 4 hours. Got lost at the uofa for 20 mins and spent 20 30 mins back at home with my dogs since my puppy was sick that day. So about 3 hours in total. About 10 deliveries 32 miles driven. But made 70 bucks. Would you say that's good?
Mike, I love your videos. However, im from san diego, and the reason I dont doordash in mission valley is the inconvenience of parking, traffic, and ur telling me ur gonna pick up from a parking garage on level 5 at Fashion Valley to an apartment around Linda Vista, but your not disclosing the inconvenience. Its hard to compare your location because everyone doesnt do or have access to mission valley. For me personally I like to doordash in poway or san clemente, and Ive been very successful. The location has everything to do. Love ur videos just wanted to put some insight and comment. Thanks!!
I make about $10 less per hour during peak pay. Without peak pay I can get 3-4 orders per hour but with peak pay there are wayyyy to many drivers and I only get 1-2 orders per hour.
I also drive in mission valley, there are lots of restaurants in the area. Personally, I love to work in this area. I also went to this same exact Sonic and OMG, the line was so long and finally getting to thr window, they told me it was picked up by someone else. I was so furious and have no longer picked up from there. I wasted a full hour and how they say, time is money. I would recommend that you don't get orders from here
wow these order are heavily reliant on the doordash peak pay, where im at its low base pay with absurd amount of tips. ill get a base pay of 3$ and tips ranging from 8$-18$
whenever i have to go through the drive thru, i just cut the line by skipping the speaker all together. majority of the time, they don't say anything about the fact that i didn't pull through the speaker, they usually just give me a total thinking i was the next order in line & i just tell them that i have a door dash for so & so & then they just get it for me. occasionally, it's rare, but occasionally they will have an issue with me skipping the speaker & i just tell them that the last time that i came to this restaurant, they just told me to pull through to the window & then it ends up being fine & they let it go.
Does door dash punish drivers for long drivethru wait times? It isn't your fault that some merchants don't start orders once they arrive. I have seen several restaurants not start an order until I arrived.
Peak pay should not be counted in your picking a delivery. As in peak pay is $3 and you get one for $9 at 5 miles. That means your tip may be as low as $3-4 so not worth your time. Now $3 peak pay and the delivery is $12 at 5 miles is gravy. Tip may be at least $5-7 we go through a lot for low tips. Tips are how we make our money DD does not give great paying deliveries so we have to make sure the base pay, and tip is more or the same as our lowest acceptable pay without the peak pay. But if no orders are coming through $10 is $10. We all have our choices of what we take or don't take.
Off subject, maybe someone knows, I think I'm starting to notice that when I'm in a certain scheduled area and I ride into a different zone, the app isn't giving me hot spots like I believe it used to
Hi Chris, when you finish an order outside of your scheduled zone the app should still show hotspots but only back in your scheduled zone. If you're too far away from this scheduled zone however the app may not show any hotspots.
Hi Christina, yes the amount that shows on the order request screen is the minimum amount you will earn on the trip. I would check out my DoorDash playlist for more: ruclips.net/video/25YIK_f0p0g/видео.html There's also a 20% off flash sale running for my Mastering Delivery course until 10/4 if you want to grow faster: www.yourdrivermike.com/delivery (Use Code: dominatedelivery) Thanks!

my sister does ubereats she finds esp at night cause its harder to get food delivered in that neighborhood that downtown in our local large city has very high tips. i went with her last night and i went wih her cause she did the late night shift for the first time down there. and despite most the orders werent going but 2 or 3 miles on any order ( i think the furthest we went was 5 miles) almost every order was around 10 dollars. we also went to the mcds beside the main hospital 4 times and each time it was at least a 15 min wait
Can you make a video on how to prepare for the tax season for gig workers.
Facts
THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!
Make sure to keep track of everything that can be a deduction on your taxes, as most gig jobs will have you fill out a 1099. You can claim deductions for mileage, per diem, business expenses, and more!
Jared Messersmith been keeping track of gas more then anything but also kms kinda is gas good to keep track of?
Thanks for bringing this up I can see it's received a lot of attention. The only thing with taxes is I don't want to give you incorrect information as I'm not a tax professional or CPA . I'm an expert in what I know and don't pretend to be a tax expert, hope you guys understand.
When it comes to taxes for the past 2 years I've done Turbo Tax self employed, they just ask you what 1099 income sources you have, you'll list gross revenue then corresponding mileage. They'll also ask if you want the standard mileage deduction or itemized deduction and you'll follow the respective prompts.
I say the same thing 90% of the time I reject anything less than 1$ per mile.
Another important thing to consider is where the drop-off will leave you...sometimes I get decent orders that take me to areas that are purely residential, with no restaurants around...so I have to drive back to an area where there's a probability of orders...so I am "riding empty" as truckers say. Important to consider this.
I spend 10 dollars in gas and make $90+ in 4 to 5 hrs so im very pleased
Same here
I pretty much decline all drive through orders now, especially if it is a red card order.
Daniel Kleinmeier ok but we need to get 10k saved up first... until then I’m chasing the next gig
Chik fila you only need 10000 to apply for the franchise?
The problem is where I live we never ever get more than 2 dollar peak pay and it's usually only 1 dollar and doesn't happen very often. We simply cannot make that kind of money here. The tips always suck and we are forced to take 5 and 6 dollar orders because that is about 90 percent of the orders we get 5 percent are lower and don't get accepted and the other 5 percent are the occasional 7 and 8 dollar orders

What area are you in and are you multiapping?
Josiah Staggs no I’m. It because doordash is the only thing available here. We have grub hub but they are not looking for drivers here
I see DD is the only app in your marketplace? That does make it tough since they're the only game in town. Sounds like a smaller marketplace too? Any other niches you could look into?
@@YourDriverMike I do instacart too but it's just as slow and when they finally do have batches They are just way to little pay fro the size of the order. Other than that no! there's nothing else we can do here. We just have to deal with low pay and not many orders because being the only game in town it is also way over saturated with drivers. I'm lucky If I make 200 bucks a week
Hey, Mike. Thanks for your great advice. Did my first Dash today. Made about $56.00 for 2 hours worked...drove about 28 miles.
Where you live bro that’s really goof
$4.50 peak pay I wish. Here in Florida the most I’ve currently seen in my area is $2
$2.00 is definitely doable as long as it's steady, thanks for watching Seth good luck out there be safe

I dash in Florida too, the other night Wellington had a $5 peak pay, you just gotta be in the right area honestly. I travel to other areas to do my dashing, I don't dash in my own resident area, it helps to expand
I saw $4 in Coral Springs last week
@@andresruiz62 LOL that’s Miami a huge city. Normal Florida ain’t like that.
My observation has been that, except for weekends, when the peak pay is higher, less orders come through because it's more expensive for the customer.
Weekends are definitely were it's at for bonuses
@Alpha omega Ilc. Yea but that’s probably because other dashers saw that high peak pay and decided to dash at the same time as you so you had more competition out there.
Peak pay does not affect what the customer pays. DoorDash takes care of that. I experimented with this and can confirm
$4.50 peak pay?!?! Wish I could get that.
Definitely higher than other markets from what I've seen, the strategies definitely still work though. Thanks for watching 👊🏻
Your Driver Mike lol i dont even get peak pay i would have to drive to a different city 30 minutes away and thats only for a one dollar peak pay
Ya. It’s because our rent is $2150 for a 2 bedroom apt in this area
We had $11 peak pay here in Louisiana when there was a hurricane. Plot twist all the restaurants were closed though.
@@RussTafari 😱😱😱
The high pay is the region your working in. It has nothing to do with being close to a restaurant with lots of orders. Unless being within 5 miles is close to you.
all this dont go to the hotzone advice.. lol.. so i should drive around the houses where there are no restaurants.. good advice...
Things I found hard to figure out on my first day dash today:
I was not prepared and should never have been over there.)
Here in Vegas the market is FLOODED with drivers who are moving here from California. When peak pay hits, you're gonna get MAYBE one order per hour.

38$ 2.8 miles Wallys Chowder House.
$100 on 10 miles
I live in a suburb of Cleveland and lucked out with 2 orders and 2 different restaurants and made $40 with those orders alone. Thanks for the tips!
Clevelands hit or miss. I come out there from Pittsburgh sometime. All those Ohio UBER drivers are over here all the time!
I have driven 11 hours this week. Earned $530. No peak pay 35 orders 112 miles and it was five easy 2 hour shifts
Yeah that works great out in California, but that’s not relevant on other locations. Here in Daytona beach Florida (which is a tourist town) you never see 21 dollar orders unless it’s Walmart. The average is about 9 to 10
try big city downtowns but the flipside is there is no parking and you might get ticketed..
personally i would NOT take the extra 11 for the additional 7 mi
My acceptance rate is 2% thanks to this
I started up Postmates last week and made 873$ in first 5 days
I never have problems with 7-11 orders, besides the suspicion that I might get murderd

What exactly does “desirability” entail? You didn’t explain that. Does that mean that certain drivers carry more desirability and tend to get offered better orders (maybe due to high ratings, etc)?
Started doordash in January this year. 2600 delivery so far.
U don’t have 2600 deliveries since feb. u work everyday and average 40 orders a day ?
I've been working longer than that and I only have 1532. There is no way in hell you can have 2600 deliveries already
I’m sure he probably meant 260
🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥
That’s only about 10 to 11 deliveries a day it’s definitely doable
Has anyone had a contract violating from an order that never arrived but you actually delivered it ? I got one today and I definitely made the delivery
Did you take a picture of your delivery then it’s a proof you still get paid even if customers scammed you.
Sometimes the customer will change their address after ordering. Another reason is road closures and issues.
I got this a couple times
I've gotten that also , customer ended up being 10 miles out of the way, AND DIDNT TIP A SINGLE DIME!!!!
Thanks for watching Jon!

Dude, I’m making on average $200.00 a day. Save all gas receipts, and maintenance receipt. By the end of the year they wouldn’t take taxes.
I've taken Drive-Thru orders in my area and now I realise how much of a time sink they are. Now I should probably just take fast food orders from the 3 places that have their lobbies open during the day . MCD, TB and BK. The rest are not worth the headache.
$3 plus bonus per delivery in orange county. Made $120 from 4pm to 9:30 pm. $21.7 average.
Likewise bro I'm orange county too .there's some money to be made especially by main place mall
Too bad that's not in Orange county Florida. 😒
O my, I be complaining about delivering past 2 miles and a lot of ppl do way more than 2 miles. Like driving 5 miles just to drop off some food for $8 is ridiculous. So now I can be very thankful and grateful for getting 1.5 miles for $9 or orders that's the max of 2 miles away for $8+
Great analysis. Tips will make or break a night. I've gotten cash tips on top of what's in the app.
Nice job!
Think about this, if your waiting and not getting paid, atleast you would be driving and getting paid atleast unitl you deliver ..... what do you say

Hi Christine, on DD you see the starting and ending destination. Did you not see that on the order request screen?

Quick question. I had to deliver an order that was completely out of my area and once I was there I was getting no orders and had to drive back to my area. Was I just unlucky once I got to a new area or are you not allowed to deliver in a area you weren’t assigned to?
doordash is sneaky , they take you out of the area you choose
Very true, the dead miles back without an order definitely factor into net profits
Yes I did a order for 21 dollars for 11 miles I thought was ok 😂 but 21 for less than 5 miles is awesome 😎
doordash is tricky. ive had scheduled shifts with large gaps between orders making low money and also times where i hopped on and wound up very glad i did cause i got consecutive good orders (quickies, or big $$) unexpectantly.
Great points, it's definitely like that. Matt's seeing that in Pittsburgh which is why it's so good to drive on multiple apps
Good day:)
When the order first pops up it only shows mileage to the store. How are you seeing this?
Bro one time I did a postmates and doordash Job at the same time. Taco Bell had me sitting there for 25 mins. I will never do that again
Taco Bell orders definitely can be some of the longest wait times, I get that from Wendy's as well
We have a couple of Taco Bells that are open for carry out...those are the only ones that I accept...I refuse to wait in the Drive-thru
The "math" music was hilarious!
Thank you 😂😂 🤔
The problem I've come to recently is that I've had to contact customer service unassigned orders at times when I didn't get a chance to see how long the drive was because the app started glitching up and I didn't want to miss it. they tried to get me to drive from South lake Tahoe to Tacoma which is on a Friday night an hour each way 33 mi each way for $17 at a Safeway.
I wouldn't lower my pay standards, I would continue to ignore low payouts which is good
Sorry about the bad writing period Google really did a number on that lol
DD's algorithms always give less food delivery offers to ppl who accept less and decline more of them.
Here in St Pete it's $1.00 at most & $2.00 if you cross the bridge to Tampa (I live on the St Pete beaches) :(
The only time we ever even get peak pay is sometimes from midnight-2am, but everything is closed at that time 😂
Definitely agree with the higher peak pay = less gross per hour/per shift.
Awesome video! Best I’ve found so far! I start Dashing tomorrow!! Thanks!
If the drive through isn’t isolated by a curb, I just cut in the drive through line straight to the window bc you’re not placing an order anyways so you don’t need to talk to the speaker box
I've thought about doing that but the thought of possibly upsetting everyone else in line especially if my order isn't ready is a concern
You guys do know you get paid extra for every 30 minutes that you have to wait for an order right?
Since when? I never have
Mike, I love your videos. Thanks!!
In Kissimmee never never take orders at Old Town and also at food trucks parking lot in front of Old Town, that's a waste of time.
I make about $10 less per hour during peak pay. Without peak pay I can get 3-4 orders per hour but with peak pay there are wayyyy to many drivers and I only get 1-2 orders per hour.
take the bonus off my friend and thats the way to know if there is extra money
and if it falls below 7:50 on the first order there no extra
I start tues🤗🤗🤗. Got my card today.
Stay within 5 miles and remember, that decline button is there for a reason. Only take orders $7 and up. Thank me later!
Oh yeah welcome to doordash!
I had a $18.75 order for 1.4 miles then immediately after got a $14.25 order for 2.3 miles made $85.75 in 3 hours
I calculated $21/5 in my head and came up with $4.25. I was wrong, but still close enough.
What software do you use to edit your videos? I don't do red card orders and never work past 8pm cause it's always fast food and 3rd floor no tip
iMovie that came with my MacBook Pro! Looking to eventually upgrade to Final Cut
@@YourDriverMike the videos look great
I’m sorry I am new to DD . Is the amount showing how much the order is? Do you have any tips for a newbie that isn’t that tech savvy ?
Hi Christina, yes the amount that shows on the order request screen is the minimum amount you will earn on the trip. I would check out my DoorDash playlist for more: ruclips.net/video/25YIK_f0p0g/видео.html
There's also a 20% off flash sale running for my Mastering Delivery course until 10/4 if you want to grow faster: www.yourdrivermike.com/delivery (Use Code: dominatedelivery)
Thanks!
You would hate Cincinnati. If you decline orders less than 1.50 per mile you would probably get 5 orders in a 8 hour shift
Can I’d use my moms car to dash? And is it really worth dashing during the pandemic of covid-19?Because I’m really interested on doing Doordash for extra money on the side but don’t have a car of my own but I’m not sure if I’d can borrow my moms car to make that extra cash?
my sister does ubereats she finds esp at night cause its harder to get food delivered in that neighborhood that downtown in our local large city has very high tips. i went with her last night and i went wih her cause she did the late night shift for the first time down there. and despite most the orders werent going but 2 or 3 miles on any order ( i think the furthest we went was 5 miles) almost every order was around 10 dollars. we also went to the mcds beside the main hospital 4 times and each time it was at least a 15 min wait
Okay I'm now 6 minutes into the video and you've made more than I made all week accepting every order I get lol wtfff
I only receive only a dollar for peak pay at most. Its ridiculous.
I love door dash. It pays my rent. I'm a part timer , and make $1600 a month
