9:47 you just blew my mind. I've ALWAYS thought and tried to describe to friends how cellular/amoeba-like 2:36 in Boneville Occident by Squarepusher is when he does the volume automation. It's like the song is describing humans reaching the height of a nuclear war right before it then the detonator goes off and it's back to square one/single celled organisms trying to organize themselves again in the midst of the destruction. I'll stop now because I'm sure I sound insane.

one of my favorite techniques to use in ableton not only for breakcore/idm stuff but also for ambient music. also great way to expand it is to use separate channel with dummy clips for automating effects.

how do you use it with ambient music? do you take a bunch of sonic textures and cut between them?
Yes! This was so much fun as a beginner - couldn’t get the envelopes to work (it was either silent or just the second I highlighted) but had soooooo much fun making a pretty crazy (a bit scary) sounding mess!!!

Thanks for this, some wicked stuff. Also, seeing you struggle was actually really useful to see the thought process you go through to get out of it, so that wasn't time wasted. For years I wondered how the mad bit in Hip Hop Phenomenon by BT and Tsunami One was done, I think this answers my question. If you haven't heard it give it a listen.

its that it's easier and more "direct" (?) to use trackers for this type of breaks idm sound, rather than some random looping of audio loop segment. And if not then at least some kind of midi sequencing

I've always done the choppy volume effect using the Autopan, never thought of doing it with an unlinked envelope, brillypads! Inspirational as always, the "music" is bloody horrible though. Good stuff.

Super late to the party here Ned, but how are you keeping these bad boys on beat? I'm finding my clips are kind of all over the place in terms of when a kick comes in etc.

If I was ambling down the road reflecting on the mediocrity and chaos that surrounds us and I saw you across the road (I'd know it was you because you'd be wearing a t-shirt with "My name is Ed Rush" written on it, I'd launch myself to the other side of the street, oblivious to any oncoming traffic, stop you (regardless of your protestations), shake your hand and offer to clean your house for free. just discovered your channel after watching seed to stage tutorial. this is anything but stupid music. this is a genius method to produce chops and glitched out beats etc. im wondering if there is a way to bus the corpus bass that you made and record that as a seperate sample.???
