There's a warning in the video, but I also wanna warn you in the comments here! This is the episode where I solve Tunic's puzzles, which to me (and seemingly much of the community) is what makes Tunic what it is. If you haven't beaten it, I'd strongly encourage you to skip this episode! I cut a bunch out of this recording to try to keep it interesting, since much of it is just me writing things down and referring to notes, but you can still easily infer how to solve many of this game's puzzles from what is shown here (especially the most critical ones that really give you that "AHA!" moment) by watching how I play.
I just played tunic for the first time in 2024 (on Switch) and it was my favorite game of the year, hands down. These clever puzzles and the “ game manual” concept was so refreshingly new (yet familiar!). Running a close second for me was Phoenotopia: Awakening. So if you’re looking for another game to play through…
I loved the game manual aspect of it! I was kinda iffy on the combat, but the game needed those elements for the manual to make sense, which led to some amazing puzzles! Really enjoyed this final part of my playthrough. I've never heard of that one! What did you enjoy about it?
@@TLPlaying Yeah, I’ve never been big on challenging combat in games so I never felt bad in Tunic about dropping the difficulty for boss fights (fyi: the ending you saw is 1 of 2; the other is a legit fight)…because that’s not really what the game was about, for me. I was in it for the exploration, puzzles and manual mysteries. For Phoenotopia: Awakening, there’s really nothing about it that I *didn’t* enjoy. Every aspect from the story/characters to side quests/collectibles to the fights/weapons/upgrades was done well and meshed together well, from start to finish. Some consider P:A a Metroidvania and some an rpg/adventure game (there’s def. some shared genes with Zelda, and in particular Zelda II…in a good way!), and really, both are correct. There’s a fair amount of environmental puzzles and straight-up puzzle puzzles too, mostly involving a music instrument you get early on. Like with Tunic, I found myself jotting down notes and screen-capping things to figure out the solutions. Difficulty is scalable (if you play it, my recommendation is to adjust the fishing mechanic and activate the health-from-menu option), and depending on your play-style you can complete it in less than 15 hours…or, if you’re like me (who loves to meander and avoid walkthroughs), potentially put in 50+ hours for a completionist run! So yeah, a high recommend from me for Phoenotopia: Awakening. I suspect you’d enjoy it, and it would make for a good playthrough series for your page.
@@taffypool654 I usually enjoy combat myself, but wasn't really feelin' it in Tunic, personally. Still really loved it though! The puzzles were absolutely the best part of this one for sure. I'm thinking I may go back and try my hand at the fight sometime! Think I have to run through the whole game again to do that, though. Phoenotopia sounds remarkable! Can't believe I've never heard of it; Zelda-likes/Metroidvanias both are right up my alley! I've added it to my list of things to play. I really appreciate that recommendation! Can't wait :)
