No you can't. We don't control anything. We don't make decisions. There is no agency inside your head making independant choices. The ego is an illusion. All we are is awareness. We are the universe unfolding. Everything that happens is absolutely perfect, and the only way it can unfold. There is no such thing as true, false, bad, good, etc.
If more 20 somethings, hell, if more people in general adopted your mindset instead of letting life happen to them, this world would be a much better, and a much happier place. Props to you for figuring it out so young. 👊

Life will always be difficult and it is necessary to grow into the person you were always meant to be. How we respond to these hardships is what really defines us. Thank you for this video, I think a lot of us needed it. Also I love how you said that we can let these hardships either define us, destroy us, or strength us.
Respectfully, I think the proactive aspect of life is just as important as the reaction. It's important to know how to navigate difficult waters, but the ship must have a purpose other than just sailing. Unless all you care about is contemplation and meditation, which is completely fine too.
@Luca Baki Thanks. Right now I'm mostly still looking for it (a suggestion I got from a self-help guy : "no life purpose? Make it your purpose to find one"). I agree with depression coming from meaninglesness, though in my experience the trigger was an existential crisis I had in college early on. I pretty much discovered evil the same way Columbus discovered America, kinda knew it was around but then stumbled upon it in all its glory. After feeling like losing my innocence yet feeling powerless and useless, I kind of stumbled around for quite a few years. Right now I'm job-hunting with the hope of finding something by testing a new road (publishing). It's hard tho. It's better be worth it lol, cause I'll find it extremely humiliating if I have to pick up another major and start college education all over. Sorry for rambling, just wanted to add on the topic of struggling to find a purpose when one used to have none. Have a good one, man.

Peterson said something similar. Paraphrasing: a life with no problems isn't a life at all. Life IS a problem, and looking for solutions while trying to figure it out is a way to "have your cake and eat it too". One has both a challenge and a series of rewards to keep one going. The very concept of "self-improvement" implies there's something to overcome. It's not here to make life a breeze, but to give people tools to withstand hurricanes.
Really great wisdom in this video. One thing to add (that I'm continually working on) - it's much easier to accept hardship when you give up the illusion of control. It's easy to convince yourself that through awareness, analysis, and planning you can prevent pain. It's the one thing you never see coming that will get you, theres no point stressing.
This is exactly what ive been going through lately. About 3 months ago i decided to leave my girlfriend of 2 years and move across the country. My plans got delayed by covid until august but ive decided that instead of focusing on the fact that my plans are delayed I decided to start focusing on bettering myself. This channel has helped me get over my addiction to the hub and has helped me keep track of my meditation and journaling. Keep trying your best and something better will eventually come.

Our situations are so similar its scary. The move from the parents home with a less than favorable financial situation but can say in confidence that was the best step in the right direction. A year later you feel that come up within but there is a lot for us to learn still and that's that fun part!
I think allowing yourself to process the grief and go through the pain without a preconceived notion, or an expectation, almost like listening to a very very long sad song, will actually move you closer to the point where you finally decide to put the headphones down, or if you cannot, they get pulled off of your head somehow. Expecting positive outcomes from negativity will put some pressure on you when you are already in a pretty vulnerable situation where you really don't need that much pressure. While yes, having this mindset will make it a heck more tolerable, sure, going through the process with the aim in mind to process your grief and to listen to the song, and get the message will produce a much much better ending.

Cole, I like the animation of life punching humans. Literally, life is wrestling with me for quite a while and life thinks he is winning, but he forgot that I never ever give up. Lost both of my parents, my dad and best mate in the same year, lost like everything in life (fiance, money, job, reputations), faced a second chance to live and almost about to die, now I lost my soul brother. Life has definitely poured in a lot. I was almost in the verge of insanity, but no way, I will be giving up. Sunk cost fallacy I guess. I've done so much great things before the dilemma. I want to get it back and have new chapters in my life.
Hey man thanks for the new mindset been low for a while now . All the doctors an therapist can say is u need meds . I would like to try this instead . Inspiring to see that u can get through it with the right way of thinking. Nice work keeping your life together and sharing
Life never beats me down. The problem is that life is like a shark, ready to attack. It plays mind games with me, it tries to confuse me and turn me against everything around me. It doesn’t need to make anything bad happen to me in order to break me, it just messes with my perception, makes me feel as though things are terrible even when they’re not. It can’t get much worse than this, because it isn’t even a matter of getting better or worse. If life is a game, then my hands are crippled, and I’m struggling to even pick up the controller.
Someone once said to me, "Life is trying to kill you, but if you allow it, it will also try to save you back again. That salvation is only possible if you have the strength to trust in it."
Thank you for sharing 🤗 It puts perspective on the usual positivity hype that creates an unrealistic expectation that everything should be perfect all of the time (and if it isn't then something is inherently wrong with you).

This is what I subscribed for bro. I couldn’t even thank you enough for the videos that helped me but man it is hard to put it into practice. Much love as always man 💯 ❤️
This is a really helpful video. Yesterday i was just thinking about how at the moment my mind and life is like Dark Souls. Im aggressivley fighting the demons in my past and the circumstances that fucked me up and are fucking me up. Im now getting psychological help for my issues. I put that off for 3 years now and didn’t fully process my trauma my problems. im glad i have people in my life that support me and want me to do well. im honest im a little bit scared of the future. But i know i have to live and one day not have it better.
the trick is that you just have to be up for the challenges and go through them using your rational good judgement (not hopeful thinking). The huge ones will stop coming often, because you've proven you can handle challenges and not lose your $hit, and you will think twice about getting yourself into unpleasant predicaments. The early part of my life was so hard, because I was not being strategic about my actions and then after 30 when I really looked out for my best interests in all areas, without burning bridges, everything became suddenly so manageable. Also, 6-8 months of savings really helps to bide you time to handle things without freaking out or beating yourself up, and taking responsibility for your actions will lead to better outcomes. For example, if I move to a new town with no job and no savings it is my choice, but I have to be ready to struggle through it until I get settled, because I did not do it in the most comfortable way. If you can backtrack until you can do what you want in a more stress-free way then backtrack, but don't go into a downward spiral of self-pity, self-loathing, blame, etc, Accept where you are and chose to get yourself out and never repeat it again. Finally, learn when to quit something bad, and don't stay on the path of something unproductive, because you are committed to it.
I feel like ive made great choices with great outcomes... i’m 37 or 38... cant really remember anymore.... and i make $35 an hour.... the most money ive ever made... and i have nothing saved.... no retirement.... no end in sight.... who wants to keep this daily prison lifestyle up for nothing...? This is stupid.

cole just wanted to say bro i think ur channel is really special because when i listen to you speak it just feels im listening to a close friend giving me advice and theres just something so comforting bout it, and unlike other channels too. keep going man also with that masterful editing there is no way youre not getting huge 🤟
It took reaching the lowest point, to start reaching for those higher. Very deeply emphasized with aspects of this. 🧡🌹
Life has it up and downs, but how you deal with it makes your story better.
The impediment to action advances action, what stands in the way becomes the way.
When the negative person in me for something that went wrong, I try to say out loud “what can we learn from this”
Got to get stronger
wow I'm on social media detoxing and I can't stop watching your videos omg

Your thoughts create your reality
Life never beats me down. The problem is that life is like a shark, ready to attack. It plays mind games with me, it tries to confuse me and turn me against everything around me. It doesn’t need to make anything bad happen to me in order to break me, it just messes with my perception, makes me feel as though things are terrible even when they’re not. It can’t get much worse than this, because it isn’t even a matter of getting better or worse. If life is a game, then my hands are crippled, and I’m struggling to even pick up the controller.
Level Up through Challenges am I right?

Your editing for this is so cool! Thanks for sharing this, I needed to hear that :))
Thank you
Someone once said to me, "Life is trying to kill you, but if you allow it, it will also try to save you back again. That salvation is only possible if you have the strength to trust in it."
Thank you for sharing 🤗 It puts perspective on the usual positivity hype that creates an unrealistic expectation that everything should be perfect all of the time (and if it isn't then something is inherently wrong with you).
Crazy, I was just explaining to my peers that death/tragedies are what make life beautiful. Death/tragedy makes you appreciate the “good” more. Castles made of sand melt into the sea eventually - Jimi Hendrix. Love y’all
Discovered this channel after seeing a comment of yours on a captain sinbad video. It's cool the Self improvement community follows each other like that.
Life is really just challenging us at different levels. You can have a positive or negative perception but moving past old motivators into the future with new motivators your being and coming out stronger is the point...
My favorite video you've gone so far! Great work my great.
I found this one of the best videos you have posted. Very empowering!
This is what I subscribed for bro. I couldn’t even thank you enough for the videos that helped me but man it is hard to put it into practice. Much love as always man 💯 ❤️
Much love
This is a really helpful video. Yesterday i was just thinking about how at the moment my mind and life is like Dark Souls. Im aggressivley fighting the demons in my past and the circumstances that fucked me up and are fucking me up. Im now getting psychological help for my issues. I put that off for 3 years now and didn’t fully process my trauma my problems. im glad i have people in my life that support me and want me to do well. im honest im a little bit scared of the future. But i know i have to live and one day not have it better.
You've got the key to getting better already, I'm sure you will
@@ColeHastings thank I just reached out some family mebers and they are supoprting me in my puruit to get help
Thank you Cole!❤️
Goat 🐐 I've been working on adopting this mindset as well.
the trick is that you just have to be up for the challenges and go through them using your rational good judgement (not hopeful thinking).
Thanks for the constant motivation
Gotchu
I used to label myself a lot too, I’m consciously making the effort to stop associating With toxic shit 🥶🙏🏿
Thank you so much! This was exactly what I needed right now!
Great video as always. Old soul in a young body. Thank you for providing content worth watching. Informative and also entertaining. Thank you for your authenticity because it’s rare. Peace and love from Jamaica 🇯🇲
I love your perspective on this, it reminds me of some of the challenge I’ve faced in the past and how they’ve strengthened me. Also how some challenges broke me in the past, but never the less great video bro really enjoyed it!💯
In a short way I would say : See everything like a workout, it makes you stronger after you regenerate and this is exactly what life is
Just watched 3 of your videos, Great stuff!! Keep it up. I've adopted the mindset that things happened for me, not to me!
This video caused me to finally subscribe to your channel. You need more views on this already, thank you for making this video
Thanks man, you’re really helping me through some shit
❤
Your editing has come so far. It's inspiring.
Wow this woke me the fuck up. Thank you
That's actually very wise!
Keep it up man!
For me is always either women or illness that brings me down but everything else is great
for real
Thank you Cole, I needed this video to refresh my mindset.
and the editing is just out-standing! are you doing it by your own or hiring an editor?
I do it on my own. I really enjoy it and still have a lot more to learn
This is exactly it. I have only been aware of this really since last year and Im nearly 10 years older. Props to you man.
Totally understand feeling in a rut of shitty events. That went on for me for a year and really screwed with my mindset and mental health. It made life feel amazing when I finally crawled out of it.
This video was very helpful! But besides a new mindset, I also need new people, with a positive mind, around me...
