My whole family, from Grandma, to dad, uncle, cousins, brothers, and me, drove all through Europe in the early 1990s, and this album was one of the albums we listened to on repeat, creating a magical and fantastic soundtrack to a defining era of my young life. we've lost a few of our number since, but this song is timeless, as are the memories of that incredible summer... Thank you iain.
Such a very great reliable Mcculloch song. - For virtually EVERY TIME PTF is guaranteed to give you and everyone a grand and glorious time. - Some of the truest great time of great music to all ears.❤
Ian dedicated this album to his dad...I bought it back when I was in the Marines...whenever I listen to it I remember how proud my dad was of me...powerful.
Hear it all the time, "the Eighties was the best decade of music." Clearly an understatement. This track is teen-angst, catchy, and captivating. This is why the Eighties changed music forever.
This song in particular, but the entire candleland album, Ian's seminal album, was the our familial soundtrack for our entire family road trip through europe as children, with my brothers, my father, my uncle, my grandmother and my cousins. We had such an epic summer that year, driving around the beautiful roads of central europe, with a blistering hot summer (I remember driving through southern france and the alwarnings about high heat, 50°c!!!) It was such a wonderful time of my young life, and this song always reduces me to tears, for the lost childhood, lost grandmother, and a far happier period of my life. Thank you ian, for providing my younger day with an anthem of such beauty as this.
I fell between the bruises And the red curtain call I prayed you'd light the fuses And we'd burn and torch it all Long days journey into Long nights journey out Knee deep so deep within you I kept and keep without
Looks like rain again Feels like it's rained forever Can't remember when Don't remember whether I ever really told you who I was It must have been because, because, because From start to finish I was proud to fall And I fell so deep within it I got lost inside it all Inside it all Inside it all
Here you come again Acting like a saviour There you go again Talking like a stranger You said we must all learn to face What we're becoming And then I saw you in the distance Off and running But from start to finish I was proud to fall And I fell deep within it I got lost inside it all Inside it all Inside it all Looks like rain again Feels like it's rained forever Can't remember when Don't remember whether I ever really told you who I was It must have been because because because From start to finish I was proud to fall And I fell so deep within it I got lost inside it all Inside it all Inside it all I fell between the bruises And the red curtain call I prayed you'd light the fuses And we'd burn and torch it all Long days jouney into Long nights journey out Knee deep so deep within you I kept and keep without You said we must all learn to face What we're becoming And then I saw you in the mirror Off and running But from start to finish I was proud to fall And I fell so deep within it I got lost inside it all.....

While I was there at Shadowplay Records ready to buy Candleland when it came out…I was a bit saddened by it. It’s an amazing album. I listen to it to this day. But…what could have been. This should have been another effortless and beautiful Echo & The Bunnymen album. Will and Les could have really inserted another level of harmonic brilliance to the recording.

It actually wasn't all hairspray. He put weird things in his hair, like sodas, etc. to make it stick up!

ORGULHO DE CAIR
Aqui vem você de novo
Agindo como um salvador
Lá vai você de novo
Falando como um estranho
Você disse que todos devemos aprender a enfrentar
O que estamos nos tornando
E então eu vi você à distância
Desligado e funcionando
Mas do começo ao fim
Tive orgulho de cair
E eu caí tão profundamente nisso
Eu me perdi por dentro de tudo
Dentro de tudo
Dentro de tudo
Parece chuva novamente
Parece que choveu para sempre
Não me lembro quando
Não lembro sequer
Eu realmente já te disse quem eu era
Deve ter sido porque porque
Porque
Do início ao fim
Tive orgulho de cair
E eu caí tão profundamente nisso
Eu me perdi por dentro de tudo
Dentro de tudo
Dentro de tudo
Eu caí entre os ferimentos
E a chamada cortina vermelha
Eu rezei para que você acendesse os fusíveis
E queimaríamos e incendiaríamos tudo
A longa jornada dentro do dia
A longa jornada fora da noite
Até os joelhos, tão profundamente dentro de você
Eu mantive e continuo
Você disse que todos devemos aprender a enfrentar
O que estamos nos tornando
E então eu vi você no espelho
Desligado e funcionando
Mas do começo ao fim

When few went solo? - not too many?
