Yes, I actually think Toyota should supply a little card explaining that so you could keep it handy. I'm sure it's in the manual somewhere, but the manual is like reading an encyclopedia, and not very well written imo.
I didn't even know half of these features existed. What... and how to change the battery part will be very helpful. Thank you so much for explaining this!
I didn't know about that either. One default that I immediately change, though, is having all the doors unlock when you put it into park or turn the car off (whichever it is). I turn that "kidnapper-convenience" feature off in the settings. I don't want all the doors to automatically unlock!
Default, or from the factory only the drivers door is unlocked! The roll your windows down feature has to be enabled with an advanced dealer type scanner.
Great video! Can you explain a bit more if the smart key has push button start and if it also has smart entry too? If it only says push button start does that mean you have to use to manual key to open the door or will the remote still open the doors with the lock or unlock feature on its own?
Doesn't lock automatically? In my delivery job its bit cumbersome to press every time I get out from the car, is there a setting so card would lock itself when I walk away?
Nope, you haven’t mentioned “everything” about the Toyota key fob. To disable the key fob from transmitting the signal for purposes like if someone is using a scanner to duplicate your fob this is what to do: While holding the LOCK button you press the UNLOCK button twice. At this point you cannot open your door with your hand. To disable this feature simple press the unlock button.
VERY important tip! Thieves can use a scanner to locate and "steal" your fob's code if they are near you say in a mall. Then they use the code to program their own "blank" fob to steal your car.
you can buy a Faraday bag for car key, This pouch will protect you chip from potential thieves trying to steal your vehicle. Worth every penny. GrettingFrom 🇩🇴
My Smart key wont lock my car when I touch the markings on the door handle, I already changed the battery on the fob but it didn't help. Any help? I drive a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE
Why doesn't my rear window lock when I leave my car locked? Rear window deck window will still open by pressing the small button near the window? Thanks Mike
Just purchased a new 2023 Toyota 4Runner on the back of my fob just has the Toyota emblem should it say 4 runner if anyone could answer that question please and I only received one fob thank you
All new Toyotas come with two. Replacements are very expensive. Even more so if you have no Fob to obtain the correct code signal from. Most Locksmiths and some Toyota dealerships can do this.
My trunk won’t unlock with key in my pocket or in my hand for that matter. Only way is to unlock all the doors first with the FOB by walking up to it or changing the settings then manually unlocking with the FOB. But won’t unlock trunk otherwise. What’s the issue?
Hold the lock button down and push the unlock button twice. The light should flash four times and it will no longer transmit. Push any button to turn it back on.
Got a 2021 Prius Prime XLE... week old all of a sudden even with a fully charged battery, vehicle will not give me any ev range info like %, miles but I can tell it is running in EV. Any ideas?
No it does not. It retains its code even after the battery has died. Thats why you can hold a dead fey Fob up to the START button and get the car going.
He explained it. I think keep your hand around the door handle for a few seconds, but rewatch the video. I didn't try to remember because I'm almost always alone in my car.
Great Tutorial! I am happy to see that the battery is replacable because then I don’t have to spend hundreds on a new FOB when it dies. Something as simple as that makes me feel like Toyota actually thinks about what is best for me and not for their wallet. Also good to know about the methods of unlocking all passenger doors as well as using the key manually.
Another tip is that the battery in your car is replaceable. No need to spend thousands on a new car when the battery dies. Toyota cares enough to sell you a new battery.
@@twenty4941 that’s not a similar comparison because no car manufacturer will provide a free battery or a battery that lasts forever. Whereas many other car manufacturers make key fobs that aren’t simple to replace the battery on and/or force you to buy a new key entirely and reprogram.

I don't actually know, but from what I understand from the video you are correct. I don't know of a way to start the ignition without the fob. Maybe someone else knows a way? I've always been afraid to hide a key, though. All the thieves know where to look!
I really don't understand, how is possible (on the 0:34) to unlock the car with just touching of the handle? This is the way I'm checking if the doors are locked. What else has to be done done with the key, that this "0:34 touch magic" will happen?
Thank for this video. Today, I went to go remove the charging cable from my 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE and I could NOT unlock my car with the keyless entry key fob. There was blinking light on the key fob (which I have no idea what that is for). I tried unlocking all four doors with the key fob by using the unlock button AND putting my hand inside the driver's and passenger side door handle. I had previously watched a video about the manual key, popped it out, and was able to unlock my car and start it. I was also able to lock the car as I normally do with touching the front of the driver's door handle. Why could I not unlock before? What is the blinking light mean on my key fob?
