  • We recently headlined the 'Big' festival in Andalucia, Spain. What a buzz!
I filmed some of the build up so you can see what it's like on the day.

Woah - you haven't played for several years, only rehearsed for four days, and then you have the nerves of steel to film with your phone right until you get on stage? Man, you're incredible! :)

these are pros. i've played with people at this caliber before and it is truly humbling. just how when you watch professional athletes. they make it look easy and it is beyond frustrating haha. be something to admire and strive for.

My band was playing the third night of fest but we all showed up the night before to catch Jamiroquai's set. I saw you taking video and it caught me by surprise. I yelled at them "Hey that's Jamirquai's keyboard player, I watch his videos all the time!" You can see me for split second at 6:24 lol! Set was killer we all had a great time!

This is awesome. I've played some big festivals myself and when you're the headliner, you get treated as royalty. When you're the show opener, not so much but you still get treated well. At least that's how I found it. I'm glad you made this video so people can get an idea of what goes on and that it's not so much like party central like it was in the 80s.

Yep - thát is big enough 🤣👍
Biggest gig I've done so far was headlining a festival with about 8000 faces in front of us.
Matt can attest to this: if you've never seen (ánd heard!) that amount of people cheering you on, then it can be quite nerve-wracking, I promise you 🤣🤣🤣🤘 And it's always very exciting and challenging to deliver to the best of your ability - personally I'm definitely happiest in those moments, as well as in any recording studio.
Thanks heaps for showing us around, Matt!!
    Long may it continue 😎🙏

Thanks Matt. Being an amateur keyboard player is so exciting seeing a real stage of pro guys. You all rock. I hope to see you soon in Italy.
Funny, I always complain about sound on stage (and I sometimes play in very little pubs...), but I see that in big venues problem is still there.
Usually I fight with guitar players who can put their amps at insane volumes...!

Great video. I've played many festivals like this but not with such a big act. We small fish are lucky if we can hear ANYTHING out of our monitors because we have to rely on the house sound people, who usually have great intentions but by the time we go on, are tired and spaced out. Last festival I did a few weeks ago, we got there at 10am to do soundcheck and by the time we went on at 8pm, the monitor guy must've forgotten where he saved the setup because the monitors were completely and totally wrong. All I had in my monitor was GUITARS louder than the voice of god, no organ, no keys, no vocals... and by the time you start that first song it's too late to do anything. I tried to get the monitor guy's attention three times to turn down the guitars and it never changed. So I just cranked the Leslie, played piano by feel (and what I could hear from the mains), sang via hearing myself due to ear plugs, and did the show. What else can you do? You just have to trust that it sounds good out front.
All that is to say you're fortunate (and of course deserving due to your hard work and talent) to work with such pros. And despite all that we little guys go through, we're all happy to be back out there doing it again like you are after two years of everything being grounded. Thanks for the insight, your music, and hope to see you on the road sometime, Matt and be safe!
