- The war to Take Earth Back begins on March 6, 2012 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
Not everyone will survive. An ancient alien race, known only as "Reapers", has launched an all-out invasion leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in their wake. Earth has been taken, the galaxy is on the verge of total annihilation, and you are the only one who can stop them. The price of failure is extinction.
You are Commander Shepard, a character that you can forge in your own image. You determine how events will play out, which planets to explore, and whom to form alliances with as you rally a force to eliminate the Reaper threat once and for all.
How you wage this war is completely up to you: go into combat with guns blazing or use cover to plan a more tactical assault. Utilize your squad to full effect or take a lone wolf approach. Rain death from a distance or go toe--to-toe with enemies using devastating melee attacks.
Mass Effect 3 will react to each decision you make as you play through a truly unique experience of your own creation. The war for Earth has begun, decide how it ends.

say what you will about the way it ended, but the mass effect trilogy was one of the most enjoyable experiences i've ever had in video games.
there's far more to the ending than nearly everyone thinks, search shepard indoctrination for explanation its brilliant but people couldnt figure it out
no, its really not brilliant, its fans grasping for straws, the leviathan dlc punched a huge hole in it
to elaborate, i do think on the citadel anderson and TIM where hallucinations brought on by last ditch attempts at indoctination, however the catalyst being an entity was in itself no dream, the leviathons confirmed this, as well as identifying shepard as being unindoctrinated. Also Vendetta clearly had the ability to detect the indoctinated, yet fails to identify shepard as one and only does so when kai lang appears.
to sum up, TEC and Leviathan DLC leave the theory too weak to accept imo

Just got the last mission left, playing through the Ledgendary Edition from ME1 to M3 back to back, watching this just brings me tears. This is it, peak videogame narative and experience. IF you have not already played this, pick up the LE edition today. Experience for the first time, I swear I wich I could!
Platinumed ME1 and ME2 and now I'm on ME3. I love this series so much. Played them all originally on Xbox 360. So good to play now on PS5.
Never played any of tge 3, but bought a bundle of PS3 games and Mass Effect 3 was in them. Viewed the trailer and OMG!! OH MY GOODNESS, looks amazing.

The story in the following games can be continued directly from your existing character in the previous game! It makes sense to start with ME1 in that case, but the Legendary Edition works perfect too!

Possibly the best video game trilogy I've ever played, enjoyable, replayable, magical, cosmic... and romantic.
8 years later and I haven’t found any game that can compare to this trilogy. No matter how it ended, it was a good ride... (edit: make that 9)
The only game series that comes close for me in terms of story and how invested I am in the characters is the Witcher.
Yeah man, Mass Effect 3 lived up to the hype of this trailer. It was an epic ride all the way thru.....right up till you know when.

The extended cut did a good job of addressing the problems that the original ending created, for that I give it a pass and enjoy it for what it is. I didn't get my Shepard vs Harbinger boss battle as shepard fights a Harbinger controlled TIM (similar to Saren and Soverign), but I did get to see the game world I fell in love continue on and find some semblance of peace. As a fan it allowed me to move on without the sour taste in my mouth that was the original ending. If you haven't play ME3 with the EC.

I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2. Completed 1 few months ago. And after I complete ME2, I'll be going to 3. And it kinda makes me sad. Like all the great things, you can only experience it once for the first time. And that first time is the best(okay, this sounds sexual, but I'm actually talking about going through this trilogy). Thus far, the only thing I found this game to be is a masterpiece. It's beautiful. So many moments. Relationships. Deep characters, who actually seem to be living beings with their personalities. Such a vivid world. Or galaxy, to be more exact. So many epic moments. Epic words spoken. It really consumed me, and after I complete it, it will probably continue to hold a very special place in my heart. And that tells a lot, because I have been through so many games with awesome stories. I like playing single player games with good concrete stories. So I know what I'm talking about, because I've played many. But this game... This trilogy... Is a masterpiece.

***** I just finished the game today, and it turns out that my game doesn't have extended cut. But hey, it's not even that big of a difference.
*SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO STILL HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME*
The ending was devastating. Like, If you play perfectly and detailed like I did, and you destroy the reapers, Shepard survives. But that also kills EDI. And the Geth. Which means you killed one entire conscious race. And Legion? Well, he died for nothing.
In my opinion the best ending is controlling the reapers. Shepard ''dies'' but there's still peace the way it's supposed to be. And everyone remain the way they're supposed to be. Synthesis is a true peace option. But seriously, altering/modifying all life in the galaxy? Making every organic being turn partly synthetic? That's... Idk. It just feels weird. Couldn't they have made an ending where Shepard destroys the reapers, survives, doesn't have to kill anyone else(EDI and Geth survive), and he gets a freakin' medal or something and everyone admires him?

Also the fact that there's no much of a difference in the end on how you play, you just basically have to chose the different colour of that wave that Crucible transmits. It's like all previous games had consequences and it was important how you play when it comes to who lives and who dies. ME3 was also a good game. Option to make peace between Geth and Quarians. Curing the genophage. That scene of fleets arriving. at Earth through the Relay and attacking the reapers(really epic scene). Citadel DLC(That party was one of the best things in the game. But ending was a bit... fucked.
To this day, this is still my favorite game in the trilogy, no shame. Arguably my favorite game of all time.
I completely agree. Don't get me wrong I understand 2 is definitely the best but 3 is mu personal favourite purely cause of all these grand moments and everything coming full circle

When I was younger I bought ME1 and I thought it was the worst game ever. I was such a novice that I got stuck in the citadel embassies because I didn't know how to get to the citadel tower to continue the game. I ended up just walking around for ages going through the same dialogue with the same characters over and over again so in the end I just gave up and sold it.
Fast forward a few years I'm much more experienced and completely in love with story telling games. I find myself buying ME2 and my reaction after completing it about 7 times was still HOLY FUCKING SHIT I love this game but for some reason I still didnt buy back ME1 so I filled my ME passion with ME2 DLC until ME3 arrived.
Again fast foward a couple years I pick up ME3 play it through, complete it, and I was in complete awe how could a game series be this good? How could the characters in a game mean so much? Make me so happy when they make a joke or when I see them return. After playing through it many more times and getting all the DLC I finally decided to get ME1 back.
I played through the trilogy about 4 times on top of the amount of times that I played each game separately. I have to say how wrong I was about ME1 all those years ago, how blind I was to not realise the masterpiece I was playing and now I can finally say that the ME trilogy is the best story telling game series that I have ever played and probably ever will play.
And so... Commander Shepard is lost but not forgotten. Let us see if in ME4 our next hero can take the expectations and give us those same memories that Shepard once did we can only hope.

That's... pretty much the best description of the Mass Effect trilogy you can get.
A few years back i watched a Let's Play of Final Fantasy X. That's when I started to really love story based games and I was like: "There's never gonna be a better game then FFX". Then, somewhat later, I played FFVIII. That game might even have been better than FFX (still can't figure out which one is better :)) but either way, I was absolutely certain that outside the Final Fantasy series every story based game was pretty much garbage.
When I bought Mass Effect 1, my expectations where therefore not that high, I rather bought it for its gameplay than for its story. And even after playing the game I felt like it was a rather average story with an interesting choose-your-path element. Still, I bought ME2. The moment where the Illusive Man told me, I couldn't have my old crew was when I realized what ME1 did to me. I really came to like (or to hate) the characters in a pretty emotional way, not just like: Hey, you are funny, I like you, or like: Yeah, thid Tidus guy was rather annoying. Shit, I think I even fell in love with Tali.
That's what makes Mass Effect special: You really can relate to (this word is too weak, I guess, "identify with" would be better) the Main Character. The crew are YOUR friends, the Normandy is YOUR ship. This differentiates Mass Effect from other games like, say, Final Fantasy X, where the main character is just another guy who saves his world and girl.
At the moment I am on my 4th playthrough (all DLCs included) and I'm still getting goosebumps pretty much all the time not to mention "critical" moments like the suicide mission or Thessia.
The Mass Effect games easily became my all time favourite and I can only recommend it to anyone who likes Science-Fiction tales.
Regarding Mass Effect 4 however my hopes aren't that high, as such a masterpiece is very hard to accomplish twice, but hey! Maybe I am mistaken again :D.

It's like you just summed up what happened to my first experience with ME hahaha. Some thing happened to me. Now I went and played ME1, addicted like a junky looking for a ME2 copy, finished it yesterday and now am trying to get my hands on the last fix. What a game, what a game..

Liara's "This is it, isn't it?" and Shepard farewell to Garrus always make me cry like a baby. Really, just remembering and I already am crying.
Head to Palaven, pick up Garrus, come back here, rally the fleets, kill some Reapers, head to Afterlife, have a ryncol, and wait for all this to blow over.
Garrus was by far my favorite companion/squadmate in this game. In a battlefield sense and his overall character,this Turian was DOPE

Still one of my favorite trailers. This and the ME2 trailer still give me goosebumps. The way they combine the games score with the Two Steps From hell music is fantastic. One of the best gaming series in my opinion. Can't wait for the next installment. Let's hope EA drops some big news at E3 this year!

Even though I joined the party late (a month before ME3 came out), this series holds the title for the most impact a game has had on me. Cannot wait for ME4.
There will probably never be an ME4. Bioware has stated that they while intend to revisit the Mass Effect universe in the future, Shepard's story is over and future games will be unrelated storywise. There may very well be another ME game, but it won't be ME4.
Oh man I didn't make it clear, ME4 there meant the next game in the ME universe. :P

I watched the Andromeda launch trailer and thought it was incredible. I watch this one back again and remember that THIS, was Mass Effect.

As much as I like this series I'm afraid that next game is gonna introduce a new hero that will be...well... worse than commander Shepard. I mean, how on earth Bioware is planning to pull this threw. We were heroes of the galaxy, dude that fought Reapers and unite entire galaxy and now a new hero? Meh... Gonna miss Shepard and his crew.
Well Mass Effect 3 was a success, and the previous heads of Bioware have left. The only reason why there's even going to be a Mass Effect 4 is because EA sees the franchise as a cash cow. So they bring out the whips and they will milk the series to death. Mass Effect 4 is really unnecessary to be honest.
Oh, I absolutely agree. Anyone who replaces Shepard will pale in comparison, but that's kind of the point. Shepard was so incredible and unique that he single handedly shaped history. I mean, that's why Cerberus put all their eggs into that basket.
A buddy of mine told me that one of his friends once ran a Mass Effect Tabletop game, and the plot was exactly the same as the Mass Effect Trilogy, only that Shepard didn't exist, and as such, everything was exponentially tougher just because Shepard was THAT amazing.
I'll try not to hold it against the new protagonist, because he's got a hell of a pair of shoes to fill.

No ending pleases everybody, especially us self-entitled Millennial folk who do even crazier things now, like ‘protest for things to be remade because WE PERSONALLY DID NOT LIKE AN ENDING’ (which to all of my fellow millennials, is quite frankly, something we should be outright embarrassed about).
But the truth is, the original Mass Effect trilogy is nothing short of legendary.
This series raised the bar tenfold, and for those of us who played it at the time, brings nothing but fond memories; even if the ending choices weren’t to everybody’s personal tastes. A tour de force!

I think they should redo the trilogy for the next gen consoles with improved visuals and alternate segments. I'd be more than willing to pay £50 for that. It also means I could actually play ME on my Xbox One.

A lot of people complain about the ending. But truth is that Bioware, fucked up in the first 30 seconds.
ME 3 took place six months after ME 2. In that time, the Illusive Man had become fully indoctrinated. He began to attack Alliance troops and do all he could to keep the Galaxy from uniting. No matter what renegade Shep believed, he had the same objective as paragon Shep: stop the Reapers and get as many troops on his side as possible. The Illusive Man made that difficult. He became an agent of the Reapers. Shepard did not.
You're grasping at straws here, it makes complete sense that Shepard would distance himself from the increasingly delusional Cerberus.

ME3, started with me finding out that my renegade Shepard, had turned himself in for genocide. Yes turning himself in how very renegade indeed…

It'd take a schmuck Shepard to play into Cerberus's hands and give them the base, really. Throughout ME2 the Illusive Man was trying to play you and control you - it can't have come as a surprise to anyone, ingame or out-of game perspective, that he ended up not being trustworthy. Players complaining about their "renegade" choices being redirected after their "renegade" Shepards realized they got played are like puppy dogs surprised they get wet when they jump into a bath.

This game and whole trilogy is still a masterpiece & my favourite game series..love to replay it even 8 years later
Replay the Trilogy, one game after the other, then come back and tell me ME3 was the weakest of the 3.
ME3 is brilliant, the story, the voice acting, the characters, the decisions, amazing. The combat compared to the other 3... flawless. The sharpened controls, camera movements, and more refined skill trees/weapon modifications. The only bad part of the game was you didnt like the ending. The ending does not define an entire game, because 99% of the game was spectacular.
I'm actually replaying the trilogy for probably the 6th time now. ME1-2 is a hard trasition, it really is.
ME1 has such dated controls and gameplay mechanics, it only holds up with the story.
ME2, combat really shines here, and pace of gameplay. The main story missions are well done.
ME3, they took the best parts of ME1 and 2, and mashed them together, and really gave you the feeling of galactic war. Just seeing the reapers in the background of the game, stomping around, smashing everything, just completely obliterating everything in their wake, you really feel the gravity of the threat. Combat is fast paced and feels good, the first time it ever felt fluid in any of the previous games.
People complain about the end (in general and to my knowledge) not because you have a three choices for the end game but because the choices in ME3 are biased. They have not the same impact as found in ME1 or 2, choices are way scarcier (and poorer) in any conversations than in ME1 or 2 and eventually lead to the same result anyway. On the contrary ME1 and 2 choices in conversations really mattered overall. In practice the game should not have been showing such a downgrade on that part but EA wanted Bioware to work at the same time on Dragon Age and ME3 which led to less time to work on those intricated and complex path written by Bioware's scenarists in ME3.
The whole fight against the reapers is another flaw criticized by players because it has been really marketed in the way that ME3 was supposed to be the biggest fight ever against reapers, and in the end you just find yourself mostly fighting cerberus (for me this is understandable as cerberus and the illusive man were a major asset to the final plot of the story) and not reapers.
Moreover, ME trilogy is supposed to be an rpg game, ME1 is a full rpg one with poor combat tactics whereas ME2 is somehow the combination between ME1's rpg gameplay and ME3's combat gameplay. ME3 is fully targeted toward fights and lost its rpg style (you still have one but that does not really matter) found in 1 and 2 which is sad and is a major flaw, for me, in ME3.
Overall I am like you: I truly loved ME3, it's a beautiful game for itself with a very sad and moving ending that cannot be replaced and pushes each player to its own way of seeing things in life, and how he/she defines which boundaries can be broken in order to save mankind. Nonetheless if you really try to analyze each pieces that made ME1 to ME3 great games that will never be forgotten, ME3 is a poor game in comparison to ME2 and to some aspects ME1. But again I loved the fights, even the ones with the same musics over and over (that showed once again that Bioware didn't have the time, even to create new music contents).
I'm with you and think ME3 is really underrated. Its honestly my favourite ME game, love the darker story (they did a great job showing how desperate the war is), Tuchanka & Rannoch offer fantastic pay off, the Citadel DLC is awesome and Shepard just felt more human in this game

Ибо камон разрабы реально постарались на славу, чего сейчас не скажешь про создателей игр.
Графика в игре стала лучше (уже плюс небольшой), сюжет стал вполне приемлемым продолжением 2 части, история персонажей, романы, диалоги, перестрелки, геймплей, музыка. ВСЁ ПРОСТО НА ВЫСОТЕ!
Я как любитель данной трилогии обожаю и 2 и 3 часть. Они обе шикарны. Плюс 3 части то что она не особо то изменила 2 часть игры. Это всё тот же галактический шутер с элементами РПГ что был и тогда. А это хорошо когда успех повторяется и при этом приносит новые плюсы
Серьёзно, так хорошо поставлены сцены и диалоги.. Я блин рыдал когда было вступительное интро, когда капитан покидал Землю под трагичную музыку, а концовка.. всегда хочется плакать после каждого перепрохождения.. Блин Шепарда конечно ОООЧЕНЬ жалко, я хотел бы чтобы он встретил победу живым со своей любовницей. Но увы ничего не вечно и капитан погиб не просто так, а стал легендой и героем всей галактики. Радует лишь то что все его друзья остаются живы и у них всё будет хорошо
Вообще 3 часть по большей части это драма и диалоги. И это очень хорошо, создаётся ощущение что ты смотришь фильм про галактические приключение капитана Шепарда, только вот ты ещё взаимодействуешь с процессом. И это круто.
Как по мне концовка за которую все ругают эту часть вполне имеет место быть. Хоть она и через чур получилась трагичная. Но ничего не вечно
По сути так и есть.. красная концовка вела всю игру, что чтобы жила жизнь, нужно отдать свою. И Шепард выбрал такой путь. Путь которой вел его всегда, идти до конца. Но даже в конце он сделал вдох. А что было дальше, мы уже не узнаем. До сих эта игра вызывает споры во всем мире.. не это ли признак, что игра изменила мир и показало, что могут быть еще споры. Значит игра удалась.

This is probably one of the best trailers for any game ever! It gives me goosebumps and gets me pumped to play this every time I watch it.
Love the ending? Hate the ending? Doesn't matter! There is no denying the power and emotion this series brings to light.
9yrs later and play the remaster on pc at 144fps at 1440p. Amazing results and literally gives that feel back in space at 1440p though🥰
Who else wants a remastered version of these games? The Mass Effect game series is one of my favorite of all time, the ending may have not been so great, but everything else was phenomenal, just amazing. I am definitely going to replay this series within the next month or so.

Playing through the trilogy for the first time now thanks to the Legendary Edition, I don't know what's so bad about the ending for people to be kicking up a fuss even to this day, but I'm sadly about to find out.
I wish there were more games out there like this trilogy.

I don't know if another game will ever top the Mass Effect trilogy for me. It was the definition of an epic. It had everything and it's almost sad that I'll never be able to experience it for the first time again.

Well, even now, ME trilogy is the best SF one out there, well, at least for people who still have good taste for quality games. We can notice how EA went kinda downhill after ME, and especially after BF1.
More important than the end is the journey and this was EPIC

Just finished the first two games they are freaking epic I loved them mass effect 3 here I come.
This remember myself, early this year while playing thru the trilogy... I used to watch everything in order to continue with the next games, from the early teasers to the launch trailer. I will repeat the same this coming year. :D
The best part about this trailer is that this is ALL in-game footage. None of those Warcraft or Assassins Creed trailers, where they just put together a clip of what never actually happens in the game. THIS is what the game actually looked like. Voice acting was improved massively from the ME1, the gameplay was EXCELLENT. Just a great game.
Hard to believe this came out 8 years ago. ME3 ruined all other video games for me.
