Sitting in my work trucking balling my eyes out. For my whole life my daddy was a dozer operator. I can close my eyes and re live my youth. That dozer sounds great!!!
That 3306 Cat motor sounds good . I Did the same thing to a D6D LGP W/Hyster winch my granddad had When i was 18 yrs old . by the time i stright piped it. the other operators let me have the ole D6D . we cleared a lot of land & built a many pond & lake w/ a D6D . NICE MACHINE !!!
I thought the exact same thing. Every time my boss is done with a piece of equipment, be it a skiddy, trackhoe, whatever, he leaves it wide open and kills it. When I hear that, I just wanna puke.... And the same thing on a frosty cold morning, when he cranks it over, once it hits on the first sign of firing, that throttle gets slammed wide open and off to work he goes.
the beauty of a straight pipe is it isn't permanent, when I'm doing long hours of work I have the silencer on and when I want to show off I get my straight pipe lol
If you take away the turnout and run it straight with a rain cap most of the noise goes straight up. That is the sound of CAT power. Don't mess with it. JHolland
Sounds great! Gotta love that turbodiesel sound. Although I agree with the guy below; no reason not to turn the angled tip so that it faces the front. It'll reduce the noise at the operators hear drums a lot. If you've ever heard the difference between firing a gun from behind it and from beside it (never tried being in front of one yet!), you know that the sound impulse goes directly out from the opening. It's much quieter standing behind a gun than beside one. And on aircraft, when they have exhaust exiting one side, you can hear the difference clearly when the oping is facing away from you and towards you. It's good to hear someone sitting on a Cat admit that a Komatsu can actually do something better. The level of fanboyism among Cat fans is astonishing, so it's nice to hear someone who can take an objective view of the facts.
Sound good with that temporary straight pipe! Love these older Cats they really are reliable equipment. But they do have their little quirks. Have fun cleaning the belly pans off of her. Nothing like getting your ass all greasy but shes worth it!
Sounds fine listening on the video. Obviously the pipe is loose. I would turn it so the outlet faces forward and is not spewing noise and exhaust towards the operator.
Sounds like my 01' Peterbilt 378 Setout truck , its straight piped and i can set 6 loads out in an hour in the woods with good wood. sometimes i can get 8 an hour dependin on how the boys in the woods are workin ... btw , the dozer sounds sick
Sounds awesome, and props to you and your family for keeping her in such nice condition....just goes to show that these things go forever with proper maintenance. Do you happen to know what year this one was made? If I had to guess just by looking at it I would say mid to late 70's?
Turn the pipe towards the front, or make it higher to clear the ROPS, then most, ( but not all ) of the sounds will be defleced away from you. Still, I'd wear those Ear Plugs though. This is a nice size of Cat, it does sound good, but not for all day working.
Well worry bout turbo if gonna get back on with in the half hour leav it runin but it'll cool while it's of. Is it realy getting that hot while low rpms I dnt think.
It's a.wonderful sound and I missed it terribly when they started putting mufflers on in the early 70's. That said, please get yourself some plugs or muffs before you go deaf.

nice to see someone let a machine idle for a few seconds before shutting it down, even when his video is waiting on him .

@grantpeterson2987 lmao yup I had a few bosses like that, they don't give a shit just gona get another machine eventually anyways lol
One of the best sounds I have heard in so many Cat dozer videos. Good job in keeping it well maintained
I love the sound of that turbo winding out.
Music to my ears!
Keep pushing brother! Great sounding machine!
Great video, love that straight pipe sound D6 looks like it's been well maintained.

i would keep like that . so my neighbors would think i had a panzer tank.
I think it sounds pretty good too. I just figured you'd hear more of the turbo whistle than that with it bein straight piped.
That thing sounds exactly like an old army duece and a half.

Yeh I could listen to that all day no probs just needs clamping for side exit position, nice nice D6D, Bullet proof n last a lifetime
My dad bought a 933 G and a 955 H in the 60s both had straight exhausts no mufflers from Cat. loud as hell every day 8 hours.
Sounds fine listening on the video. Obviously the pipe is loose. I would turn it so the outlet faces forward and is not spewing noise and exhaust towards the operator.
That's one clean "6" friend.
Love that exhaust note. Ear plugs are cheaper than a muffler. ❤
That still is an awesome machine👍💪

The only way a D6D must sound 5 Star :-)
First dozer I ever ran was a d6 like this.
Sounds like my truck. Second gen cummins
Nice rake. I like 'em quiet though. I'd probably like it with a muffler on it better. That's just me though.
how many hours has it done ?
Very cool! I like dozers powerful.
Well worry bout turbo if gonna get back on with in the half hour leav it runin but it'll cool while it's of. Is it realy getting that hot while low rpms I dnt think.
If the exhaust doesn't melt the brim of your hard hat, it's safe to shutdown.
Nice
Hearing protection please!!!!! Don't wanna go deaf with that sweet sound!
+James Truitt You have a good pount here. That beautiful Cat sound AND the tubo whine will hurt your ears after a few hours on this great Cat.
It is just hard to leash the sound of torque at work these days. What is this world coming to?
Sounds damn good, like SGTSAHARA said i just dont know if i could work her for 8-10 bein that loud..
It's a.wonderful sound and I missed it terribly when they started putting mufflers on in the early 70's. That said, please get yourself some plugs or muffs before you go deaf.
