Spices is what adds flavours to their foods. As Kenyans we rarely use spices only chumvi and blackpepper which is also not really needed. But I think the coastal people are the ones that uses spices alot

From what I have observed, the video was recorded not later than 2011. He was hosted somewhere in a rural village in kitale and that's Y he has such a narrow perspective of Kenyan culture. Based on his description of food, he was probably hosted by a kikuyu family living in kitale(no shade). Ugali that has been properly cooked is tasty and has an aroma with a 1km reach. Communities with the tastiest/aromatic food hail from swahili coast or luo nyanza. The tastiest meat comes from the maasai community. The freshest vegetables come from the kikuyu lands hence their healthy but tasteless mukimo(no shade). That said; my fellow Kenyans, stay safe.

Actually Mzungu literally means wanderer which was a name given to western explorers that when they landed in the coast they use to go into circles considering they are in foreign land, so the explorers hired guides so that they can know where they're going.

Most of what you said was spot on, as for ugali being tasteless...I can tell you when I was away from home, the only dish I missed and dreamt of was Ugali. You cannot be a Kenyan and not identify with Ugali and sukuma wiki, it's what makes us who we are. You sound like you stayed in the rural part of Kenya though so you view the country from that perspective only. Imagine a 'mzungu' coming as a tourist and visiting Masaai Mara National park or Diani beach only? They will still experience Kenya but from a totally different perspective. Good review though.

Actually Mzungu literally means wanderer which was a name given to western explorers that when they landed in the coast they use to go into circles considering they are in foreign land, so the explorers hired guides so that they can know where they're going.

Most of what you said was spot on, as for ugali being tasteless...I can tell you when I was away from home, the only dish I missed and dreamt of was Ugali. You cannot be a Kenyan and not identify with Ugali and sukuma wiki, it's what makes us who we are. You sound like you stayed in the rural part of Kenya though so you view the country from that perspective only. Imagine a 'mzungu' coming as a tourist and visiting Masaai Mara National park or Diani beach only? They will still experience Kenya but from a totally different perspective. Good review though.

For the athletes from Kenya it's pure hard work practicing, sacrificing in running camps in Iten and kaptagat , Kenya...Trust me, it's pure HUSTLE but body structure and diet gives us a little advantage!
