I know it's no secret that these nature documentaries are heavily edited, but it kills the illusion of continuity when it's so clearly not the same giraffe at 0:46 and at 1:06.
So, this video is actually stolen from the BBC. The original footage was narrated by David Attenborough and in that documentary it shows that the giraffe actually got away from the lions. A lioness was waiting for it, and she tried to bring it down from the front, but it trampled her. She survived but the giraffe got away. The ending clip used in this video is from a completely different documentary. These lionesses did not bring down this giraffe.

+moses500xmc how can you offend someone when it's nature at work? Is it because they want to appeal to all audiences, As far as age...? Not to offend a child per say?
I'm good at diagnosing behavior and video. This hunt is NOT what the Smithsonian's title or story represents. Near the end of the Giraffes run, it slows down at a revene and most likely fell; probably breaking a leg or got away out of sight. It may not even be the same Giraffe and a separate hunt of a young one altogether. Not enough video to claim what we saw in the video.
What if this is the tactic of the lion, to get the Giraffe running as fast as possible guiding it to the revene knowing it will fall and they pounce on top?!?!?!
This is obviously a montage of film clips. The giraffe was in full sprint and the lions were not able to mount an attack. But change clips to lions feeding on a giraffe and the story seems natural. I hate these clips of nature shots melded together to imitate actual kills / escapes just for drama. Its all for TV viewers instead of natural history documentation.
DrewWasMe I agree with you 100% it's so annoying when they film like that. Showed everything except the kill, which leads me to believe that giraffe got away and they used a clip from another kill. For all we know that giraffe they were feeding could have been dead already
What do you even mean? You could literally see the giraffe stumble because of exhaustion before the last shot. The kill itself wasnt in the video to be fair though, true. But still.
This is why they are the kings of the beasts. It’s not about just strength lions understand the importance of teamwork, they know when to back down etc.
Not usually they tire it out one way or the other. Lions have terrible endurance. They can't run very long at all. They usually attack it and jump on its rear legs until it collapses in exhaustion or until they knock it down
No yello. I've seen lions hunt and kill giraffe. They chase it until they catch it. Then two of them will just jump on and cling to the rear legs to exhaust the giraffe even more while it's running. Now it's like the giraffe is trying to run with two huge ankle weights. The a third one will jump on one of the back legs as well and use his claws to start climbing the giraffe until he's on the giraffe's back. Once the third lion is on the giraffe's back he will crawl down his back to his neck and then cling to the giraffes neck in the same fashion that the other two lions are clinging to his back legs. At this point the giraffe head starts to go toward the ground due to the weight of the lion "bear hugging " his neck and once the giraffe hits the ground it's a done deal. It's over the two lions from the rear legs then mount the fallen body to keep weight on it so that the giraffe won't get up and the lion who is still clinging to the neck is lying on the ground relaxing , while biting the giraffes wind pipe and suffocating it to death. It's an amazing thing to watch. I've seen it a few times on RUclips vids.
They hunt giraffe by chasing it around and when they get tired of doing that they go to their gun stash and get their sweet elephant gun and shot the fucker like they should have done in the first place.
Sometimes they'll chase it into a shallow river and wait till it trips on the slick rocks and breaks it's neck, but that's just luck. A lot of times they chase it for a little bit, then a couple of lions jump on the rear and bite at the spine to hopefully damage the spinal cord or nerves, then the other lions will attack the legs until it does down, then the crush the wind pipe.

NO. Giraffes can kick a lion with it's hind legs, and if they land that kick just right, the lion can be killed in seconds. Lions ARE precision hunters.
These five male lions, rare lions of the desert, affectionately called musketeers, the subject of intense monitoring by a conservation project widely supported by Namibian institutions, had four of them killed recently. One was assassindo the bullet and three were poisoned. A huge tragedy in terms of conservation.
You've got to laugh with this clickbait. First scene chase with showing attack. Next scene, another giraffe taken down which is unrelated to 1st scene.

This pride does, they live in the desert where there is little prey around except giraffes. Their grandmother had perfectioned her giraffe hunting skills and they learned from her.
Joana Llama Yes they do, these are young males - if you knew the difference between male and female lions you would realize that lionesses don't have balls. These are young males so their manes haven't grown in yet. In other darker news, all five of these males were shot/poisoned and then burned by farmers while they were all still young. A huge loss for the local lion population.
at 1:04 , you will notice that the giraffe's tongue sticks out. Common thing when an animal has no control over its tongue when they have received a dose of anesthetic. And at 2:21, the giraffe simply falls consciousness. It shows no signs of injury in the legs, not did it hit the trees.
