    I told my family about the processed meats causing cancer and they kept eating processed meats pretty much everyday, several times a day. People don't care. It's very frustrating :(

      I had a conversation about it with colleagues who are literally health care professionals and they were all "who cares, it's all genetic anyway...." uhhhh, none of them smoke, they know smoking is bad... but eating 5 hot dogs on white bread buns at a birthday party is okay? hmmm

      Rebecca Marchand-Smith yeah it's like as if they are addicted I was told "everything can cause cancer, breathing causes cancer" that's the same strategy that many smokers use or tell themselves "we're all dying anyway in the end so who cares?"

      You must live for yourself. Live well, be happy and active, be the change you want to see in the world.
      People do change, but they don't share your timeline, be patient and a good example.

      That is how it is, until they get diagnosed with a degenerate disease. When Death comes knocking on there door, then they realize how bad is the western diet, and how serious and important this whole dietary lifestyle. Of course we still have people who still don't really care, and think that because they only live once then might as well live it up by eating whatever they like, and living which ever way they enjoy. Hmmm...I wonder if anyone of them really would not care when they would find themselves grabbing their chests in pain, or going numb on one side of there bodies.

    He talks about how his book is *still* a New York Times bestseller and how that's extraordinary, but he doesn't come off at all proud or arrogant when he says it. This is someone whose cause is truly bigger than his own ego and he's comfortable with that. You gooooo Dr Greger!! ❤️

      As long as phytochemicals target cancer stem cells - I am continuing with my daily eating of a kale, avocado, red onion, splash of Braggs apple cider vineagar and turmeric w/cracked black-peppercorn salads.
      No chemo and no ionizing radiation for me. The Harvard Medical School dashboard stated in: "Ionizing Radiation Induces Cancer Stemness", and the sentence within states "Cancer stem cells are resistant to conventional chemo- and radio- therapies" - as well as the PubMed research:
      "Phytochemicals Target Cancer Stem Cells" is good enough for me. I live it and I am a walking breathing testament [mente/mentis in Latin means "mind"]
      I am two years and two months cancer-free, and I am happy about it - thank you very much.
      And, I have my medical records [documented in black and white from the Oncologist] and the documents of my pathology reports to prove it. 100% proof.

    On July 4, 2017, my husband and I went full plant-based. Had a physical and cholesterol check at ARC in Austin, Tx on June 30,2017; had a total cholesterol of 226! After TWO weeks of total plant-based diet, I asked the doctor to schedule another lab check for my cholesterol level again .(I wanted to see for myself). I had to ask twice but she let me do it. On July 18, 2017, my total cholesterol level was 136!!! Can you believe it? Same lab, same test!! There you go Dr. Greger!!!

Then I tried the Pritikin plan when my kids were little and we loved the freedom from illness etc. But I got caught up in the trends: primarily wild salmon, olive oil, coconut oil, eggs etc. I've been fully WFPB for two years now, but this book really upped my knowledge, commitment and eating enjoyment! The most telling comment I heard when I suggested to someone to switch to a WFPB diet was "You want me to give up living?" This person was obese. I got the insight that this person (and many others like this person) sees eating as "living" and the rest of life is just waddling around waiting until it's time to eat again. These people need to see the rest of life as living and see eating as just a short period to get peak nutrition so that we can feel great in our active lives.

    Great interview! I love the discussion of physicians being influenced by seeing results in their patients (anecdotal) while not being influenced by all of the studies/trials. It's so disheartening sometimes to know people personally who have health issues but simply won't make changes that could help them -- or even worse, they'll make dubious changes that just happen to reinforce their junk-food preferences (e.g. butter in coffee) but will regard a plant-based diet as way too radical, too restrictive, too extreme. Like slopping butter in your coffee is not extreme?? And then you hear "well, I just love my cheeseburgers too much to give them up" from someone who's obese, with type-2 diabetes & other kinds of health problems, and will be lucky to survive to the age of 50. Habit, comfort and familiarity are such incredibly powerful forces.

After suffering with a constant migraine for a month or ugly side effects from the drugs, the ginger knocked out the migraine within an hour. It was magic! This sounds crazy, but watch your intake of seaweed. All forms of it, as it can be a hidden ingredient under a different name. It all started when I found these lovely roasted seaweed treats at Costco. I adore them..but noticed I would get a ridiculously painful headache after eating them. I stopped, and had been searching out the reason as to why it would cause headaches? Any form of seaweed guarantees me a bad, off the chain headache! Well, while eating something the other day, I told my son I don't think we should eat the product anymore because it has MSG in it, and it gives me headaches. He informed me that MSG was basically made from seaweed so it isn't as bad as everyone thinks. Seaweed! The connection was clear as to why I was suffering from headaches from the actual roasted product. Just wanted to share as a fellow headache sufferer.

    Some doctors did go into medicine to make money unfortunately. Many parents also force their children into medical school because it's a "good paying job". Although there are a lot of doctors who do truly want to help but were just misinformed.

    this is exactly the wise men approach of dealing with this huge misery we are in. Let the truth come forth on its own accord, setting yourself and your ego and desires aside, and the only thing that is left is tremendous clarity and out of that just one desire, to diminish suffering, to honor truth. He is not only invulnurable to bribery but also invulnurable to the thousand lies that have been spread wide across the mainstream consciousness. It´s still a long road to go but thats the way it can be done. thumbs up, Dr. Greger

    I can't agree with Dr. Greger and the system not being corrupt. I would consider designing studies to get a certain result and spreading misinformation to be corrupt. Especially when people's lives are on the line.

    • @nicksteve5392
      @nicksteve5392 7 лет назад +12

      Alekai I think he plays it safe by saying that incentives are there that cause that action. Not corrupt if the system doesn't allow it and they did it anyway.

    • @Codswallop58
      @Codswallop58 7 лет назад +10

      No, he's spot on. Corporations exist for one purpose only: to make a profit. That's not corrupt. It's exactly how it is supposed to work. If people stop buying garbage, the profit motive goes away. If you have skin cancer, you shouldn't go to the beach and work on your tan, but you can't conclude that the sun and cruise ships and the tourism industry are corrupt. They are just doing what they do.

    • @waltersumofan
      @waltersumofan 7 лет назад +2

      True, but he mentioned those specifically (meat and eggs). Generally though he's saying here that in the majority it's the design of the system itself, the people are not twirling their mustaches. Change the shopping and habits to WFPB and then that system has to adjust or fail

    • @alekai2178
      @alekai2178 7 лет назад +8

      I understand that argument and agree with it for the most part. But to continue your analogy, it would be like cruise ships, tourism industry, and tanning bed companies all lying about the danger of long term light exposure and affirming people that it wont give you skin cancer, just to protect their pockets and deny public health safety. The problem is that the government is allowing these corporations to put profit over people's health, when it's supposed to be the government's job to serve and protect the people and not the corporations. There's nothing wrong with a business selling a product, obviously they want to be successful and gain profit. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. But lying about your product and spreading misinformation and confusion is an immoral and corrupt business practice, which is also against the law. It's why tobacco companies can no longer advertise their products. And the reason big pharma and all the food industries are getting away with it is because they have bought and bribed the government to join their side. It is corrupt.

    He really is sent from above, cannot believe how easily he explained it all and made a point to all of us....make sure sources are cited! I learned that in English 101, by 102 I was a master lmao!! Logical explanations but the proof is in the food itself. You want more natural energy, regular bowel movements, healthier moods? For the love of being healthier...eat food in that natural state! Our country has been decieving🤔to us and we were raised to be conditioned to eating foods lacking in nutritional value😠😠😠. Dr. Greger, you hit the nail on the head when you say that maximizing profits is how the system works, but it's not just the medical and other related industries. What you are describing is the market logic of our entire economy. It would be a tremendous idea if you talked about this fundamental flaw with more emphasis. If we start recognizing the absurdity of this monetary market model, and implementing ways to get away from it, you'll stop seeing so much power in industry. You'll see virtually no skewed science. You'll see more vegans, you'll see more healthy people. You'll see less sick people dying not just from the leading single causes of death, but poverty and structural violence in general.
    Klaus, thank you for putting that bit in the beginning.

      It's his personality type. He's not interested in beating an emotional drum, creating a victim/villian/savior drama, or casting blame to garner support for his ideas. He's a good example of letting the facts speak for themselves... that things are bad enough without adding drama. 😂 Wish there were more like him. 🌱

    I really don't buy that they just don't know or that they are ignorant to the benefits of a whole food plant based diet. They are simply just like many patients who choose a good meal over their health continually. Oh...and the money selling those prescriptions don't hurt. If you're smart enough to get through medical school, you're smart enough to look into something as important as a whole food plant based diet's benefits. It's foolish to think that they've never heard of it.
