My boyfriend is Indian and I ask him all the time to tell me about India and we once got to the topic of Indian weddings. He told me about the symbolism and the deeper meanings behind everything that goes on, rather than just saying vows to your significant other. Makes me realize how much I want my wedding to mean to me as much as my lover does.

Hey Guys - this was a Hindu wedding style (with the ceremony taking place as the actual Hindu wedding ceremony). There are also Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jain, Christians, Jews and atheists plus ever lexicon in between, living in India. As beautiful as this is, and as stunning as Michelle is - there are millions of these weddings happening each day, each with so much color, beauty, love, ceremony and culture to each one. If this video excited you - speak with your Indian friends, or make ones - go to Indian weddings, or go to India - and see the color, joy, happiness, and love in it yourself. Get your mehendi done by someone who specializes in Indian styles (or better, go to a Sangeet party or a Mehendi night before the wedding and hear the songs, and live those moments where a family is created).
Michelle and whomever created this video (cough, cough, Eugene) did a fantastic job, but it was just a teaser of how good the real thing is. Come and see it for yourself. Oh, and I didn't even talk about the food!

      *****
Yes, but I wouldn't want someone making the mistake at a Muslim wedding - wondering where Lord Ganesh, or the Havan is. As an Indian, it was only living in the US that I realized - we see things very differently than Americans/Westerners do.
If you're an Indian/Hindu - you know what to look for, as an outsider - it might be a little dazzling or intimidating (based on how complex, delicate and beautiful it all is) to want to go, see, experience, or even ask questions.
That was my point. You are completely right - but even with Hinduism, not all weddings are performed this way. I know that it might be too niche, but can you imagine one of these done for a Bengali Hindu wedding, a Punjabi Sikh wedding, a Tamil Hindu wedding, a Marathi Hindu wedding, a Gujurati Muslim wedding - there is so much beauty to India. I just want people to go, to see it, and to experience it - and not feel ashamed, or worried to ask.
This video is a great conversation starter - and that was my goal in posting what I did.

@Amuk the religion originated in India and spread to other countries. No one can have patent over religious traditions, but they will most likely be associated with the country/region of origin. Also half of the traditions in this video are different from those where I live in, so other Hindu nations are bound to have different customs too, but not get enough recognition

I love this beautiful video, but as an Indian I would like to point out some mistakes. Firstly, Buzzfeed rarely explores South Indian, West Indian or Northeast Indian cultures, instead always focusing on some aspects of North Indian culture. Secondly, only Hindu aspects of Indian life is shown, whereas in reality, there is a significant population of Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Jews, etc. Although I greatly appreciate the efforts taken by Buzzfeed to expose the world more to India, mostly stereotypes are portrayed. I know I have too many expectations, but India is a land in which each state has its own cultures, dresses, languages, etc. So I find it hard to believe that this is a video of *a diverse set of iconic wedding dresses across India.* as given in the description.By this, I DO NOT expect ALL kinds of Indian dresses to be portrayed, bcoz that would take a looooonger video. All I'd like is the video to be renamed according to what region and religion this video represents, so that viewers don't get the impression that ALL Indian brides dress like this.

    • @MultiBigbird01

Because they were going for indian bridal looks, not indian wedding fashion. The brides will typically wear lehenga's, although i know south indian and a few cultures in india the bride may wear a saree for her wedding, but typically lehengas for the brides, and sarees are mostly worn by the wedding guests or the bride and groom's family members if they want to rather than the bride.

Amazing vid but you missed including bangles in the outfits. Bangles have HUGE importance and are highly symbolic in hindu marriage. In my family, the mother passes on her own marriage bangles to her daughter. Not wearing bangles or jewellery while wearing a traditional dress usually depicts mourning.

Wow im so glad they did a video about this.the world needs to know more about our culture & im happy to find out that buzz feed is helping.however i thought this video was going to look at the bridal looks of different states.the one I've shown here only takes place in the north.we use saree's in the south.but it was well made & shot nevertheless 😊

You are most welcome to try it. You won't be offending anybody if the idea behind is pure appreciation with curiosity to know. You see, hinduism is not a religion but more of like code of conduct to find inner peace. Some seek it by going to temple and others find their own way as long as it does not, in a general way, harms anybody. There is absolutely no restrictions for anybody who represents a different culture, tradition or religion to try anything at all because Hinduism in a way attracts harmony.

I feel that Cultural appropriation is when people take something from another culture and totally butcher it. Like they sell door Mats with Hindu Deities on them. That is very disrespectful. Or like the Nazis took swastika, an ancient Hindu/Buddhist symbol of goodwill and totally turned it to represent evil. But if you take things from other cultures and use them with respect and care it should be okay.

Not if you take the time to understand the cultural customs and symbols that you'll be using in the wedding, and certainly not if you give them the proper respect they deserve when using them. :)
