No other singer can do “Slow, Love, Slow” or “Scaretale” like her. It's a shame she only got one album of songs written for her voice, but you can really see what she's capable of there. She's good at drama, at emoting. Tarja could have never pulled those songs off, truth be told. Her main flaw was that she didn't have as wide an emotional range.
Yes, I did not like Annette singing Tarja songs live,years later I heard her collab with Russell Allen, and she sounded great. So Nightwish was not the right place for her.
I've had the privilege of seeing Nightwish with all three singers, once with Tarja and twice with Annette and twice with Floor. The band's dynamic was different with each singer. Each show was amazing. Such a fantastic band.
Emppu smiling at the end says everything to me. The level of compromise of Floor and their friendship made it possible. She was the missing piece for them.
This is probably Nightwish’s most vocally punishing song. It is not suited to Annette’s voice so she made changes to suit her voice. Tarja and Floor can both handle this but Floor has more power and uses it to her advantage. I mean no disrespect to Annette. She did well on her two albums. This piece is just not suited for her and given that she put in an excellent effort.
Tarja has a lot of outfit changes, so I think she needs a little extra time there. Floor just REALLY likes this song....a lot....and it shows. I absolutely love Tarja so it kinda pains to say that Floor edges her out on this song on the versions I have heard. I have noticed Tarja will go 90% sometimes. Floor seems to go 100% more. Tarja did say she found the tours to be exhausting.

Tell everything you want but for me Tarja and her voice in Nightwish is unreplecable. This song won't sound good without her. Of course Anette and Floor have got a beauty and power in their voices but for me to the first five albums fits only Tarja's voice. This albums ware made especially for her. I'll miss her forever. Nightwish became different since she had left. Of course still was and is fantastic band but... For me the previouses albums with Tarja indeed are the most dark, and truly gothic. Truth be told, the ending is Floor's addition to the song. Tarja and Annette did not sing it because it's not an original part of the song. But that said, this "addition" briliantly fits the song and once one heard this version it's difficult to imagine this song without it. Even the CD version sounds "lacking" :)
True, I always liked Tarja's version till I heard what Floor did with it, she owns the song in every way possible. I never noticed before that Tarja didn't sing the operatic part that Floor does. I always assumed she did. I knew Anette didn't, but it was clear from the get go that she struggled with this song cause it is too demanding for her voice. However I applaud her for having the guts to perform it live, that must not have been easy for her. @Michael Vidal from what I heard the whole band loves what Floor did with the ending, or did you really think Tuomas would let her change something in his song that he didn't like? Get real.

The ending measures after Floor's addition provide enough cool down to take in the actual ending. It also amplifies the vocals of the background choir. It's a fitting epic climax, a resolve much like the ending of Phantom of the Opera.
Floor is the type of a woman who can easily succeed in any other band or solo be that metal, pop, rock, opera or whatever.. her vocal range is a gift to humanity.
With all due respect to Tarja (who IS the "original" vocal of Nightwish, and the "sound" that made it what it was, and what it has become).... and the same due respect for Anette (she was AMAZING on "Dark Passion Play")... but seriously - NO ONE is better suited for this genre than FLOOR - she rolled this song up and SMOKED IT. PERIOD! Floor was MADE for this, and with her amazing vocal range, IS the new voice of Nightwish!
I can bet that since her first appearance she was claimed as perfect singer for this song. Like annette for imaginaerum (this song shows everything she's got and sound pretty cool), like Tarja is the only one who can sing Nemo properly.

Especially Tarja had like Phantom of the opera, nemo etc. That's why those and songs like stargazers etc were skipped much by Annette. But to say storytime was best with Annette.. I think the clip was awesome but the live version of her was like the first performance of floor really, skipping the end and high parts that floor started doing at her 2nd or 3rd show. But Annette seemed a more smooth in the difficult lines of storytime for sure.
And I agree that floor was really what Nightwish needed with their wide range of amazing masterpieces. Tarja was keeping them into the opera too much, Annette was too "weak" (with respect) and floor is well... Tuomas his Nightwish Dream
Floor has actually transformed every NW song I never liked into a song I do like. Why? The emotion, the interpretation....but above all the fact that she TRULY UNDERSTANDS this is symphonic rock, not opera or pop or alternative rock or whatever genre. She is one of the best live performers for all time.

I really like both Tarja and Annette, and I think we can all agree they both were fundamental building blocks in Nightwish's career, but Floor really was meant for Nightwish. She is nothing short of incredible with them.
The very problem is that Anette has got a completely dirfferent voice, so (of course) it is hard for her to sing Tarjas songs. But... I wouldnt want to hear Tarja singing Bye Bye Beautiful either... Literally!
Anette is pretty weak on stage even with her own songs...i mean with song that was written for her. Even Tarja has some difficulties. Thats why everyone loves Floor: her performances are always polished.
I'm in a wierd position when it comes to the different vocalists! I mean, Tarja is the one we all "Old" Nightwish-fans fell in love with in the beginning with the most epic album in that time period (My opinion), 'End of an Era'. Then Annette came along and made my favourite album, Dark Passion Play. And then it was Floor who just wipes the two before her to dust in live performance! So everyone has their pros and cons, but i think the band we all love so much has found their voice and for that, i am forever grateful, because that means I have the chance to see them live before they quit! :D
I don't agree with you when you say that that album was the most epic album or concert by Nightwish. In truth, it was a performance where Tarja was below par due to the illness she brought with her from their South American tour. She was sick, exhausted and psychologically affected by the shenanigans between her and the boys. If you want to compare live concerts with Tarja, both "From Wishes to Eternity" and the "Summer Breeze Festival" are more epic than "End of an Era". Don't get me wrong, I'm truly grateful, as a Tarja fan, that she was able to save her voice, during the day, so she could still give us that amazing performance, regardless of how sick she was

@@carlossilva7530 to be fair Floor was also sick and feverish during that performance in Buenos Aires. She still sang like an angel. I think this is the fair comparison. If Floor's performace was used from Wacken 2013 it would sound even better.

Man, if I wasn't team Floor already, this video really would have convinced me. The song was written with Tarja's voice in mind, so it makes sense that she can pull it off really well. Annette is fantastic in her own way, but she just isn't made for Nightwish's older stuff. Floor though... Floor almost seems like she was born to be Nightwish's singer. Here's to hoping that she's there so long as Nightwish is going!

im not anrgy at anette but the band for kicking Tarja. Anette is also more a pop singer and just is awefully misplaced in a metal band. Floor is the most metal singer of the 3 but sadly thats the issue, for me nightwish was always unique and special cause they got a classical opera voice. with that special tarja gone it was just another metal band and i know better metal vocalists than floor. Nightwish is still a good band but its not among the best anymore

I can't imagine the joy and relief of original Nightwish fans when Floor joined. I've never known a singer slot in so perfectly to a band. The feeling of "Yes, now everything is going to be alright" must have been amazing.
Indeed. I fell in love with NW in 2004, Tarja was fired in 2005, I waa SOOOOOO gutted. I had a lot of hope for the following singer but while I loved the songs I just didn't like Anette's voice. Impossible to enjoy the magnificence of NW at that time. I bought the Wacken show a few years ago, I had forgotten about NW at that point and BAM, massive surprise, new singer, hope was back. I literally cried hearing the first song of the show with Floor. So yes, it was an intense feeling to be able to be in awe again, I feel so lucky to have discovered Nightwish twice!
Floor is the only singer that gives me chills no matter what she sings and how many times i hear her. Loved the Floor encore you put at the end. Happy Emppu face.

Empuu is so damn cute. Annette can't sing the songs written with Tarja's voice in mind, BUT Floor does better than Tarja, with so much power. To be fair to Annette those songs are likely VERY HARD to sing unless you have a very special voice. Floor has a very great "look" that adds to the whole experience, and she has great "presence" her moves along with the voice, no wonder Empuu is grinning so much, and all of them are looking so damn happy with the performance, and you can tell that Floor is totally in synch with all of them, not detached like Tarja seemed walking offstage, UNLESS, she had done a costume change for the next song, and HAD to leave the stage or something like that.

@@cree_VI I totally agree with you. I WILL say that I do love "Dark passion play" the CD, and Annette sounds good on it. Before seeing Annette onstage trying to sing songs written for Tarja, that Floor just does wonderful at singing, I would've NEVER had a clue that Annette could NOT sing them. I hadn't seen the outfits that Annette had worn (or hadn't worn) while performing until you had mentioned it. I hadn't really sought out to see Annette performing live, when I had seen her on the video where all 3 vocalists had been shown singing those songs which really show you who can't quite do the songs justice (which IS the video we are commenting on of course) Annette does a few of the songs on DPP better than Tarja or Floor ever could, because they were written for her kind of vocals, a more "pop" type of vocal delivery, it's kinda how it would be better to ride a jetski for short trips in the water vs sometimes you would need to have a nice speedboat/yaught for a longer trip. If that sounds stupid sorry tonight is "vodka drinking night" for me. Floor and Tarja ARE the "yaught/speedboat" and Annette is the "jetski" BUT, we should all be glad that Annette had been there to keep Nightwish performing and putting out good music. Annette and Marco on "The islander" does sound mighty good, Annette did only some harmonizing along with Marco, BUT, she did do a great job on DPP. I'm sure that most do agree on that.

The song is amazing period. But Floor singing it gives the vibe of "didn't know a piece was missing until we found it". Takes it from one of the best metal songs ever, to simply one of the best songs ever.
What astounds me is how this song is like has always been meant for Floor's voice. It's almost next to impossible to better a studio version and yet she did it. Our valkyrie goddess did it. It's 2 weeks straight now i can't stop watching and listening to this song as soon as i get home and in the car also. And hell it brings me to tears every single time at the end with Floor.
Floor Jansen finally made Nightwish complete, and made the band really worth listening to. Floor has been the best thing that could happen to Nightwish, - she really rocks, and has a strong, broad vocal range, unlike the other singers. This video clearly demonstrates how Floor's talent and raw passion goes the extra distance and really connects with her audience.
Tarja put Nightwish on the card with her operatic voice and stage presence. She will never be forgotten for that. Anette seems to be a very nice, upbeat person. But, her stage presence wasn't in sync with the Nightwish image. Her "poppy" voice worked in the studio with all the overdubs. But boy, it's unbelievable how bad she was live. It was like having a bad Britney Spears impersonator on stage. Even live she had to rely on the many vocal overdubs. And then came Floor: a match made in heaven. She has the voice, the looks, the attitude. And besides that, she has no problem performing Nightwish songs from any era. I can't help but thinking that this current lineup will bring Nightwish to a new level. Can't wait to see them live
+Albert van den Berg I have seen them live in Stuttgart a few months ago, a stop during their "Endless Forms most Beautiful"-Tour. It was epic! And they played Ghost Love Score there as well. That performance is something I will tell my grandchildren about. :-)
I cant hate on Tarja she was the origninal and this was one of her songs she wrote and performed. But its nuts how good Floor to take a song written by and to another strength and make it her own.
And now Floor owns almost all of Nightwish songs from the first album to the last... She is so easily singing all Nightwish songs on stage better than the originals...
Basically all say the same, that Anette was great with her songs and had difficulty reaching the vocal quality of the earlier songs for Tarja, who is a wonderful singer. Just Floor can perform all of them and more, even adding her own style and even more so enhancing songs written before she joined. That makes her one of a kind and so outstandingly awesome. Tarja has a great voice and talent, Anette also with a different nice voice of a lighter color and she made a lot of effort, now Floor has the most versatile and super great voice and style, and she worked so hard to "not screw up" the songs she loved, that she now owns them all. This story of Nightwish also gives hope, shows that never giving up in a crisis, which started with Tarja leaving, daring to go new ways will not only help to go on, but in the end all can become better than before. Nightwish and Floor found each-other, and now so many feel it is as if they have always belonged together.
I was at Floor’s third or fourth show with Nightwish. Even though she was sick and not in complete sync yet, you could just tell it was going to be magic.
This is definitely going to be Nightwish's most EPIC era. I mean, Tarja was an icon, as we all know, but she just wasn't into it it seems, sometimes. I mean she has the voice and the presence, and she can completely blow you away with it, but it was like "my part's over, lemme go" for her. I like Annette, and I feel she is a good singer, but her voice isn't meant for songs like this! I feel they shouldn't have even performed these songs when they had Annette. I mean, it's like asking Tarja to sing pop. It just won't sound good! However, Annette really owned the songs which were written for her: Poet and the Pendulum, guys!? Annette had a different style, I don't think she deserves all this hate just because she didn't fit well into Nightwish's sound. Do I even need to talk about Floor? My mind is blown. The epicness of that ending just made me stop breathing for a minute and think of the world, earth and everything else. This is a singer who goes SO well with the band! She's into the music, is headbanging, pulling off killer vocals and has the voice for Nightwish. I can't wait for the album!

None of the songs did it for me, except for maybe Yours Is An Empty Hope. Then again, Troy Donockley's joining of the band should have been a hint to the folk direction Tuomas was taking it. tl;dr: excellent album, but lacking the epicness from Floor. sounds more like Once than anything new.
I love Trajas voice, the voice of an angel, not so impressed with Anette, but Floor is incredible, so much power, unbelievable. I think the most powerful female singer in the world

Floor is absolutely the best in my opinion, but the other two videos weren't the best quality as far as audio goes(in defense of Annette). that being said, I think Nightwish has the best vocalist for their sound now with Floor. she is absolutely phenomenal.

Can't we just agree that Annette, Tarja and Floor are all pretty good singers? Personally I prefer Floor on the whole, but there are some songs Tarja does better.
I always loved Tarja, but to be very honest, if I hear her now I find her voice a bit annoying. Don't get me wrong, she is a fantastic singer, but it all sounds the same to me. Especially compared to Floor, I love her voice, I love her range, I love how she can sing in different ways. And she totally rocks the stage. I wasn't a big Nightwish fan anymore when Annette joined, sweet girl and a nice voice, but no Nightwish material. Now that Floor joined she made me fall in love with Nightwish all over again, even more than the Nightwish with Tarja back then.
I have the same opinion! Floor is so much more versatile, flourishes every verse and takes all Nightwish song to herself, making her interpretation so much more convincing. Plus, she has an amazing stage presence!
I didn't even know Anette existed...I thought once Tarja was gone it was never going to be as good so I stuck with the old songs. I liken the situation to this, when Christian Alvestam left Scar Symmetry...they had to replace him with TWO guys. That is how epic some vocalists are. Floor had some big shoes to fill...and she absolutely owned it, and I will say, out shines even the best of Tarja. She has the soul for this music and is absolutely perfect for Nightwish. Forget Mozart...I'm glad I was around to hear Floor sing Ghost Love Score!
Good you noticed that, that was always my opinion too. I watched quite a few of their documentaries and Floor really seems one of the guys with no diva behaviour. Towards the end of the Tarja stage apparently she wasn’t ever bothered to show up for rehearsals anymore. That was one of the biggest issues that they made public. She had become a Diva putting herself above the band. Their breakup was very emotional for especially Tuomas. Hè wrote the Pendulum piece about his pain breaking up.
All you need to do is watch the band. The energy Floor injects into the performance is infectious. Not only that, Tarja and Anette have recorded chorus behind them at the end. Floor carries the entire song, without the recording, until the end. The song may have been written for Tarja, and she always did it well, but Floor has made this her song, hands down. It's her signature song for NW now.
One other thing I noticed about the performances. Notice how Floor rules the stage from the center. Watching any number of videos with her and NW I can count on one hand the number of times she moves more than 3 steps from the center. This allows the band to be the band. She is rock steady and still pulls the audience in.
@@titus02906 That's also part of her vocal technique too. She stays grounded to give herself the correct breath support to pull off those spectacular notes like the ending of GLH. It's a big reason why she sounds as good as she does, she's not wasting breath and physical energy running around but putting it all into delivering the songs well.
To people saying this is an unfair comparison because Anettes version was filmed with a cellphone. I can find a unedited clip from a cellphone with Floor that is even better than Floors version here (not as good quality of course) better performed.

This is a great video and shows that even though all three frontwomen are great singers, Floor Jansen nails it !! She can belt it out with her amazing voice. She has proven to be the best vocalist for Nightwish. She does this amazing and talented band of musicians justice with her awesome voice and great stage presence. Tuomas is a musical genius and knows how to pick the best for his band.
Floor = Nightwish resurrected. Finally a talented singer again (who can compete with Tarja), with an insane vocal range might I add, not mention soprano abilities!
Floor is totally the best choice for the band. I love all the singers equally, and I mean, Dark Passion Play isn't the same without Anette, Century Child isn't the same without Tarja, and Endless Forms would not be the same without Floor. The thing is, Floor is the most versatile singer, I can't imagine Tarja being able to sing the songs made for Anette either Anette doing the songs meant for Tarja, but Floor can do at least a decent job in both cases. Not better, but capable of being as good as the past legends. Tarja and Anette are showing their full potential in their solo carriers, everyone should check it out! And floor is doing a good job keeping the legacy of the previous vocalists alive while also giving the fans her wonderful singing style. All I ask is respect since all the vocalists guided the band to the direction it is today, which is the perfection.

Except in studio. Her voice is way too generic and it makes the songs sound more mediocre than they should. Don't get me wrong, she's one of the most skilled singers on the planet but that doesn't really make her best at everything.

Tarja was, is and will remain forever, the best frontwoman. I can say that it is about Tarja and the rest of the world. Comparisons can be made, but don't mix Tarja in these comparisons. Tarja is the Queen. Everyone has a personal style, talent and strength to convey messages to the public, to the fans.

I'm just so glad that Floor is now recognized as one of the best metal singers ever, because she already was (in my opinion) the best female singer when in After Forever, and no one even cared because everyone was so focused on the NW drama and the ideal of the perfect singer. Seeing Floor shining so bright right now makes me very happy.
Wow! Appreciated Tarja, but really appreciated Annette's "pop" vibe she brought to the group and when I heard she was no longer with them, I pretty much just tuned out with no interest in hearing the replacement, but . . . thanks to this video, I am DEFINITELY feeling my wishes in the night come back. I think during the Annette era fans somewhat, reasonably, hoped or even expected Tarja's imminent return. Now that Nightwish have Floor Jansen I think that door has been officially closed.
The little vocal parts Annette and Floor do at the end makes complete sense for the song. In the original, the last couple of notes for the vocals move upward, implying that something should come after, but there's nothing. Anette's isn't wonderful, though I appreciate her trying to capitalize on the moment and do something to relieve that tension. Floor's is, obviously, masterful.
As much as I appreciated Tarja's singing (I mean, dayum son!), the only one that I actually care for is Floor. I remember her voice and power moving me in the After Forever days and what-if'ing about her somehow becoming lead for Nightwish. Strange how the universe made that actually come true. But I am sure glad that it did.
Years ago when I heard Floor first time with Afterforever I got scared, thinking well that¨s that Nightwish has a real competition on this genre and Floor sounded even back then so much more controlled and versatile singer than Tarja. It is Tuomas who kept Nightwish on course with his skills of composing and had some well playing bandmates around. He knew Tarja¨s faults and knew how to get best out of her music wise. Now on this video I want to thank you, you are first one who points out the middle section of this song, Floor¨s high notes and angry notes and oh boy, how does she tells the story!! Another thing is that Tarja used backing vocals ( 5:00) and that made her voice sound more powerful but kind of soft way, nice harmonizing when Anette and Floor did not and maybe that¨s why someone may feel their voices are not so full or rich?? On staccato part is the same with everyone. Floors voice is just so haunting and beautiful. Other thing that got my attention is that Floor seems to be the only one who¨s timing is as accurate as clock, she is hitting the notes on spot and just the right time and on the right tempo with music. Anette seems to sing this like the pop song making her own runs making the caracter of this song change and Tarja is singing the notes just a little bit too long so that seems to me she is just a little bit out of tempo of this song, then again the song can take it. And before anyone starts to debate with me- yes, I love everyone of these three singers with and without their strengths and faults!
You pretty much summed it all up here. Timing is a tricky thing. I appreciate what Tarja was trying to do, because you can play with timing and make it more interesting to listen to. BUT you have to know when to play with your timing and in my opinion these moments (in this example) it needed the timing to be spot on. Floor can play with timing as well, but she's more subtle and she always chooses the right parts for it. As for Anette..., she wasn't lucky with the sound quality of her performance, but it felt insecure. I don't have a problem with her using different melodies to suit her vocal qualities. And the lady can sing. But when you need to fill the shoes of someone who helped define the sound of the band and who's being loved by every Nightwish fan..., that's an impossible task. And then comes Floor who can do about everything and who DOES everything to make it work..., it's almost hard not to feel sorry for her. In the first 4 Nightwish songs I ever heard Floor doing, I counted at least thirteen completely different voices she's capable of using. And she uses these different voices precisely where you'd want to hear them. And it's always the right voice for the right parts to make these parts even better than they already are. I've heard amazingly good vocalists who could alter their own sound for the same reasons, but even the very best ones were 'limited' in the number of different tones they mastered. Five, maybe six....., but thirteen?!?!?! And that's just four songs. In all honesty, I never really liked Nightwish. But with Floor..., how can you not love her and admire her for everything she's capable of doing? I'm in a Floor flow for weeks now. I'm losing my sleep because of it. She just keeps amazing me. It's ridiculous! It may not seem that way, but I actually never wanted to participate in that idiotic Tarja vs Anette vs Floor discussion. It's useless and for a huge part it's also a matter of personal preferences and more often than not those personal preferences lie in simple things like 'what was the first thing I heard and why did it emote me so much?' So I tried to be as objective as I possibly can. Fortunately music is not a competition and everyone can and must relate to and love the musicians that speak for them personally. For me, that would be Floor.

After Tarja left, I was heartbroken. Anette is not bad, but she was not right for the songs written for and performed by Tarja. To me at that time Nightwish lost their special touch. When Floor was announced, I didn't really recognize they could improve that much. I refused to believe another singer could top Tarja. Floor did it! It feels as if this song was written for her! Only years later I discovered Nightwish again watching their live performance at Wacken 2013 (recording, not live, sadly enough). Since then I say... Tarja was great at this song, and unfortunately Anette could not hold a candle to Tarja in these songs asking for such vocals (but at least she made a best effort for the fans!), and after the split it was as if a miracle had happened... Floor came on short notice and soon made this song her own! Sorry, Tarja, where Floor makes all audience have tears of joy in their eyes, goosebumps everywhere, cause racing hearts bursting with emotions, you were already gone from the stage. And Floor stayed with the band all the way rocking with them full of power. What a symbolic act. Floor rightfully earns her position, and her variability of the voice shows so much in this song. Floor really fits best to Nightwish after all, as she can add belt and grit, as well as classic singing where the other two nice ladies were simply staying with each of their one iconic styles. So, since this is what everyone is talking about, let me give you my opinion on the three Nightwish female lead vocalists: Tarja, Annette and Floor. *Tarja* : For me, Tarja will forever be the best female vocalist Nightwish had. Her voice touches me so deeply and her feelings are so clear in every single note she sings. She gave us some of the most epic songs or interpretations of songs of all time like "Walking in the Air", "Sleeping Sun" and much more. For me, she will always be the voice of Nightwish. I miss her very much, even after ten years, but I have welcomed both her substitutes. *Annette* : Annette is a very talented singer and her voice is so icy and magical, if you get me. I appreciate her very much. She gave us some very nice songs like "For The Heart I Once Had" and the epic ride that is the entire _Imaginaerum_ album. However I personally could never fully connect her with the band. I am still not sure why, seeing as I love the songs of that era but something didn't fit the picture for me. She was very good though, and I think she will go on and produce great music, solo or with another band. *Floor* : Floor has the very voice between the styles of Annette and Tarja. I still don't have a complete opinion on her as I have heard only a few songs of hers but I can't wait for the new album to be released so that I can form a more accurate opinion. For now, I can only say that so far she has done a very good work. I really was impressed the first time I saw her live. I hope she goes on.

Even when taking the unfair comparison (phone recording Anette) into account, it's quite clear, in my opinion Floor's version the best by far. The song is EPIC as hell, and her vocals definately support that epic glorious bombastic feeling the best. I mean come on, Floor's killing it! You can just tell she really feels the song and makes it her own and that, only after a couple months. It's a sign of good things to come. This is my ultimate Nightwish moment, it almost gets tears in my eyes. Call me a sissy, I don't care :) Can't wait to see Floor with Nightwish in NL/BE and I'm very proud to have a dutchy singing in one of the biggest symphonic metalbands on the planet. Will see her with her band Revamp this january though, woo!!!

When I first heard this song with Tarja I didn't think it could get any better. Than I recently heard the version with Floor and I was stunned, because it was the best version of the song I had ever head. Tarja is a brilliant singer but I think Floors voice is more versatile/powerful than hers. Floor has always been my favourite metalsinger. Than for Annette she's a good singer but I don't think her voice is for this song.
Anette absolutely could not do Tarja’s songs, but she nailed the songs made for her. She’s one of the reasons why I love Imaginaerum so much.

No other singer can do “Slow, Love, Slow” or “Scaretale” like her. It's a shame she only got one album of songs written for her voice, but you can really see what she's capable of there. She's good at drama, at emoting. Tarja could have never pulled those songs off, truth be told. Her main flaw was that she didn't have as wide an emotional range.
Yes, I did not like Annette singing Tarja songs live,years later I heard her collab with Russell Allen, and she sounded great. So Nightwish was not the right place for her.

I've had the privilege of seeing Nightwish with all three singers, once with Tarja and twice with Annette and twice with Floor. The band's dynamic was different with each singer. Each show was amazing. Such a fantastic band.
Emppu smiling at the end says everything to me. The level of compromise of Floor and their friendship made it possible. She was the missing piece for them.

This is probably Nightwish’s most vocally punishing song. It is not suited to Annette’s voice so she made changes to suit her voice. Tarja and Floor can both handle this but Floor has more power and uses it to her advantage. I mean no disrespect to Annette. She did well on her two albums. This piece is just not suited for her and given that she put in an excellent effort.
Tarja has a lot of outfit changes, so I think she needs a little extra time there. Floor just REALLY likes this song....a lot....and it shows. I absolutely love Tarja so it kinda pains to say that Floor edges her out on this song on the versions I have heard. I have noticed Tarja will go 90% sometimes. Floor seems to go 100% more. Tarja did say she found the tours to be exhausting.

Tell everything you want but for me Tarja and her voice in Nightwish is unreplecable. This song won't sound good without her. Of course Anette and Floor have got a beauty and power in their voices but for me to the first five albums fits only Tarja's voice. This albums ware made especially for her. I'll miss her forever. Truth be told, the ending is Floor's addition to the song. Tarja and Annette did not sing it because it's not an original part of the song. But that said, this "addition" briliantly fits the song and once one heard this version it's difficult to imagine this song without it. Even the CD version sounds "lacking" :)

True, I always liked Tarja's version till I heard what Floor did with it, she owns the song in every way possible. I never noticed before that Tarja didn't sing the operatic part that Floor does. I always assumed she did. I knew Anette didn't, but it was clear from the get go that she struggled with this song cause it is too demanding for her voice. However I applaud her for having the guts to perform it live, that must not have been easy for her. @Michael Vidal from what I heard the whole band loves what Floor did with the ending, or did you really think Tuomas would let her change something in his song that he didn't like? The ending measures after Floor's addition provide enough cool down to take in the actual ending. It also amplifies the vocals of the background choir. It's a fitting epic climax, a resolve much like the ending of Phantom of the Opera.
Floor is the type of a woman who can easily succeed in any other band or solo be that metal, pop, rock, opera or whatever.. her vocal range is a gift to humanity.

Especially Tarja had like Phantom of the opera, nemo etc. That's why those and songs like stargazers etc were skipped much by Annette. But to say storytime was best with Annette.. I think the clip was awesome but the live version of her was like the first performance of floor really, skipping the end and high parts that floor started doing at her 2nd or 3rd show. But Annette seemed a more smooth in the difficult lines of storytime for sure.
And I agree that floor was really what Nightwish needed with their wide range of amazing masterpieces. Tarja was keeping them into the opera too much, Annette was too "weak" (with respect) and floor is well... Tuomas his Nightwish Dream

Floor has actually transformed every NW song I never liked into a song I do like. Why? The emotion, the interpretation....but above all the fact that she TRULY UNDERSTANDS this is symphonic rock, not opera or pop or alternative rock or whatever genre. She is one of the best live performers for all time.

I really like both Tarja and Annette, and I think we can all agree they both were fundamental building blocks in Nightwish's career, but Floor really was meant for Nightwish. She is nothing short of incredible with them.

I'm in a wierd position when it comes to the different vocalists! I mean, Tarja is the one we all "Old" Nightwish-fans fell in love with in the beginning with the most epic album in that time period (My opinion), 'End of an Era'. Then Annette came along and made my favourite album, Dark Passion Play. And then it was Floor who just wipes the two before her to dust in live performance! So everyone has their pros and cons, but i think the band we all love so much has found their voice and for that, i am forever grateful, because that means I have the chance to see them live before they quit! :D
I don't agree with you when you say that that album was the most epic album or concert by Nightwish.
In truth, it was a performance where Tarja was below par due to the illness she brought with her from their South American tour.
She was sick, exhausted and psychologically affected by the shenanigans between her and the boys.
If you want to compare live concerts with Tarja, both "From Wishes to Eternity" and the "Summer Breeze Festival" are more epic than "End of an Era".
Don't get me wrong, I'm truly grateful, as a Tarja fan, that she was able to save her voice, during the day, so she could still give us that amazing performance, regardless of how sick she was

Man, if I wasn't team Floor already, this video really would have convinced me. The song was written with Tarja's voice in mind, so it makes sense that she can pull it off really well. Annette is fantastic in her own way, but she just isn't made for Nightwish's older stuff. Floor though... Floor almost seems like she was born to be Nightwish's singer. Here's to hoping that she's there so long as Nightwish is going!

im not anrgy at anette but the band for kicking Tarja. Anette is also more a pop singer and just is awefully misplaced in a metal band. Floor is the most metal singer of the 3 but sadly thats the issue, for me nightwish was always unique and special cause they got a classical opera voice. with that special tarja gone it was just another metal band and i know better metal vocalists than floor. Nightwish is still a good band but its not among the best anymore

I can't imagine the joy and relief of original Nightwish fans when Floor joined. I've never known a singer slot in so perfectly to a band. The feeling of "Yes, now everything is going to be alright" must have been amazing.
Indeed. I fell in love with NW in 2004, Tarja was fired in 2005, I waa SOOOOOO gutted. I had a lot of hope for the following singer but while I loved the songs I just didn't like Anette's voice. Impossible to enjoy the magnificence of NW at that time.
I bought the Wacken show a few years ago, I had forgotten about NW at that point and BAM, massive surprise, new singer, hope was back. I literally cried hearing the first song of the show with Floor.
So yes, it was an intense feeling to be able to be in awe again, I feel so lucky to have discovered Nightwish twice!

Empuu is so damn cute. Annette can't sing the songs written with Tarja's voice in mind, BUT Floor does better than Tarja, with so much power. To be fair to Annette those songs are likely VERY HARD to sing unless you have a very special voice. Floor has a very great "look" that adds to the whole experience, and she has great "presence" her moves along with the voice, no wonder Empuu is grinning so much, and all of them are looking so damn happy with the performance, and you can tell that Floor is totally in synch with all of them, not detached like Tarja seemed walking offstage, UNLESS, she had done a costume change for the next song, and HAD to leave the stage or something like that.

Before seeing Annette onstage trying to sing songs written for Tarja, that Floor just does wonderful at singing, I would've NEVER had a clue that Annette could NOT sing them. I hadn't seen the outfits that Annette had worn (or hadn't worn) while performing until you had mentioned it. I hadn't really sought out to see Annette performing live, when I had seen her on the video where all 3 vocalists had been shown singing those songs which really show you who can't quite do the songs justice (which IS the video we are commenting on of course) Annette does a few of the songs on DPP better than Tarja or Floor ever could, because they were written for her kind of vocals, a more "pop" type of vocal delivery, it's kinda how it would be better to ride a jetski for short trips in the water vs sometimes you would need to have a nice speedboat/yaught for a longer trip. If that sounds stupid sorry tonight is "vodka drinking night" for me. Floor and Tarja ARE the "yaught/speedboat" and Annette is the "jetski" BUT, we should all be glad that Annette had been there to keep Nightwish performing and putting out good music. Annette and Marco on "The islander" does sound mighty good, Annette did only some harmonizing along with Marco, BUT, she did do a great job on DPP. I'm sure that most do agree on that.

The song is amazing period. But Floor singing it gives the vibe of "didn't know a piece was missing until we found it". Takes it from one of the best metal songs ever, to simply one of the best songs ever.
What astounds me is how this song is like has always been meant for Floor's voice. It's almost next to impossible to better a studio version and yet she did it. Our valkyrie goddess did it. It's 2 weeks straight now i can't stop watching and listening to this song as soon as i get home and in the car also. And hell it brings me to tears every single time at the end with Floor.
Floor Jansen finally made Nightwish complete, and made the band really worth listening to. Floor has been the best thing that could happen to Nightwish, - she really rocks, and has a strong, broad vocal range, unlike the other singers. This video clearly demonstrates how Floor's talent and raw passion goes the extra distance and really connects with her audience.
Tarja put Nightwish on the card with her operatic voice and stage presence. She will never be forgotten for that.
Anette seems to be a very nice, upbeat person. But, her stage presence wasn't in sync with the Nightwish image. Her "poppy" voice worked in the studio with all the overdubs. But boy, it's unbelievable how bad she was live. It was like having a bad Britney Spears impersonator on stage. Even live she had to rely on the many vocal overdubs.
And then came Floor: a match made in heaven. She has the voice, the looks, the attitude. And besides that, she has no problem performing Nightwish songs from any era.
I can't help but thinking that this current lineup will bring Nightwish to a new level. Can't wait to see them live

I cant hate on Tarja she was the origninal and this was one of her songs she wrote and performed. But its nuts how good Floor to take a song written by and to another strength and make it her own.
And now Floor owns almost all of Nightwish songs from the first album to the last... She is so easily singing all Nightwish songs on stage better than the originals...

Basically all say the same, that Anette was great with her songs and had difficulty reaching the vocal quality of the earlier songs for Tarja, who is a wonderful singer. Just Floor can perform all of them and more, even adding her own style and even more so enhancing songs written before she joined. That makes her one of a kind and so outstandingly awesome.
Tarja has a great voice and talent, Anette also with a different nice voice of a lighter color and she made a lot of effort, now Floor has the most versatile and super great voice and style, and she worked so hard to "not screw up" the songs she loved, that she now owns them all.
This story of Nightwish also gives hope, shows that never giving up in a crisis, which started with Tarja leaving, daring to go new ways will not only help to go on, but in the end all can become better than before. Nightwish and Floor found each-other, and now so many feel it is as if they have always belonged together.
I was at Floor’s third or fourth show with Nightwish. Even though she was sick and not in complete sync yet, you could just tell it was going to be magic.
This is definitely going to be Nightwish's most EPIC era. I mean, Tarja was an icon, as we all know, but she just wasn't into it it seems, sometimes. I mean she has the voice and the presence, and she can completely blow you away with it, but it was like "my part's over, lemme go" for her.
I like Annette, and I feel she is a good singer, but her voice isn't meant for songs like this! I feel they shouldn't have even performed these songs when they had Annette. I mean, it's like asking Tarja to sing pop. It just won't sound good! However, Annette really owned the songs which were written for her: Poet and the Pendulum, guys!? Annette had a different style, I don't think she deserves all this hate just because she didn't fit well into Nightwish's sound.
Do I even need to talk about Floor? My mind is blown. The epicness of that ending just made me stop breathing for a minute and think of the world, earth and everything else. This is a singer who goes SO well with the band! She's into the music, is headbanging, pulling off killer vocals and has the voice for Nightwish. I can't wait for the album!

***** I agree wholeheartedly, although this is my first listen to Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Floor's vocals are well and good (as always) but they weren't wow. None of the songs did it for me, except for maybe Yours Is An Empty Hope. Then again, Troy Donockley's joining of the band should have been a hint to the folk direction Tuomas was taking it. tl;dr: excellent album, but lacking the epicness from Floor. sounds more like Once than anything new.

I always loved Tarja, but to be very honest, if I hear her now I find her voice a bit annoying. Don't get me wrong, she is a fantastic singer, but it all sounds the same to me. Especially compared to Floor, I love her voice, I love her range, I love how she can sing in different ways. And she totally rocks the stage. I wasn't a big Nightwish fan anymore when Annette joined, sweet girl and a nice voice, but no Nightwish material. Now that Floor joined she made me fall in love with Nightwish all over again, even more than the Nightwish with Tarja back then.

I didn't even know Anette existed...I thought once Tarja was gone it was never going to be as good so I stuck with the old songs. I liken the situation to this, when Christian Alvestam left Scar Symmetry...they had to replace him with TWO guys. That is how epic some vocalists are. Floor had some big shoes to fill...and she absolutely owned it, and I will say, out shines even the best of Tarja. She has the soul for this music and is absolutely perfect for Nightwish. Forget Mozart...I'm glad I was around to hear Floor sing Ghost Love Score!

Good you noticed that, that was always my opinion too. I watched quite a few of their documentaries and Floor really seems one of the guys with no diva behaviour. Towards the end of the Tarja stage apparently she wasn’t ever bothered to show up for rehearsals anymore. That was one of the biggest issues that they made public. She had become a Diva putting herself above the band. Their breakup was very emotional for especially Tuomas. Hè wrote the Pendulum piece about his pain breaking up.
Tarja is very good. But Floor. She is just on another level. Man I like Floor and Ghost Love Score.
All you need to do is watch the band. The energy Floor injects into the performance is infectious. Not only that, Tarja and Anette have recorded chorus behind them at the end. Floor carries the entire song, without the recording, until the end. The song may have been written for Tarja, and she always did it well, but Floor has made this her song, hands down. It's her signature song for NW now.
Actually relistened to the piece and the recording is there for Floor, but pushed so far back as to be nearly unheard.
One other thing I noticed about the performances. Notice how Floor rules the stage from the center. Watching any number of videos with her and NW I can count on one hand the number of times she moves more than 3 steps from the center. This allows the band to be the band. She is rock steady and still pulls the audience in.
@@titus02906 That's also part of her vocal technique too. She stays grounded to give herself the correct breath support to pull off those spectacular notes like the ending of GLH. It's a big reason why she sounds as good as she does, she's not wasting breath and physical energy running around but putting it all into delivering the songs well.

This is a great video and shows that even though all three frontwomen are great singers, Floor Jansen nails it !! She can belt it out with her amazing voice. She has proven to be the best vocalist for Nightwish. She does this amazing and talented band of musicians justice with her awesome voice and great stage presence. Tuomas is a musical genius and knows how to pick the best for his band.

Floor is totally the best choice for the band. I love all the singers equally, and I mean, Dark Passion Play isn't the same without Anette, Century Child isn't the same without Tarja, and Endless Forms would not be the same without Floor. The thing is, Floor is the most versatile singer, I can't imagine Tarja being able to sing the songs made for Anette either Anette doing the songs meant for Tarja, but Floor can do at least a decent job in both cases. Not better, but capable of being as good as the past legends. Tarja and Anette are showing their full potential in their solo carriers, everyone should check it out! And floor is doing a good job keeping the legacy of the previous vocalists alive while also giving the fans her wonderful singing style. All I ask is respect since all the vocalists guided the band to the direction it is today, which is the perfection.

I was at the concert in Vancouver which was with there latest singer who is just wounderful, I will say that concert was the best night of my life.

I'm just so glad that Floor is now recognized as one of the best metal singers ever, because she already was (in my opinion) the best female singer when in After Forever, and no one even cared because everyone was so focused on the NW drama and the ideal of the perfect singer. Seeing Floor shining so bright right now makes me very happy.

The little vocal parts Annette and Floor do at the end makes complete sense for the song. In the original, the last couple of notes for the vocals move upward, implying that something should come after, but there's nothing. Anette's isn't wonderful, though I appreciate her trying to capitalize on the moment and do something to relieve that tension. Floor's is, obviously, masterful.

As much as I appreciated Tarja's singing (I mean, dayum son!), the only one that I actually care for is Floor. I remember her voice and power moving me in the After Forever days and what-if'ing about her somehow becoming lead for Nightwish.

Need a mix of three versions with similar sound /recording quality to really tell..... but..... love them all!
Years ago when I heard Floor first time with Afterforever I got scared, thinking well that¨s that Nightwish has a real competition on this genre and Floor sounded even back then so much more controlled and versatile singer than Tarja. It is Tuomas who kept Nightwish on course with his skills of composing and had some well playing bandmates around. He knew Tarja¨s faults and knew how to get best out of her music wise. Now on this video I want to thank you, you are first one who points out the middle section of this song, Floor¨s high notes and angry notes and oh boy, how does she tells the story!! Another thing is that Tarja used backing vocals ( 5:00) and that made her voice sound more powerful but kind of soft way, nice harmonizing when Anette and Floor did not and maybe that¨s why someone may feel their voices are not so full or rich?? On staccato part is the same with everyone. Floors voice is just so haunting and beautiful. Other thing that got my attention is that Floor seems to be the only one who¨s timing is as accurate as clock, she is hitting the notes on spot and just the right time and on the right tempo with music. Anette seems to sing this like the pop song making her own runs making the caracter of this song change and Tarja is singing the notes just a little bit too long so that seems to me she is just a little bit out of tempo of this song, then again the song can take it. And before anyone starts to debate with me- yes, I love everyone of these three singers with and without their strengths and faults!
You pretty much summed it all up here.
Timing is a tricky thing. I appreciate what Tarja was trying to do, because you can play with timing and make it more interesting to listen to. BUT you have to know when to play with your timing and in my opinion these moments (in this example) it needed the timing to be spot on. Floor can play with timing as well, but she's more subtle and she always chooses the right parts for it.
As for Anette..., she wasn't lucky with the sound quality of her performance, but it felt insecure. I don't have a problem with her using different melodies to suit her vocal qualities. And the lady can sing. But when you need to fill the shoes of someone who helped define the sound of the band and who's being loved by every Nightwish fan..., that's an impossible task. And then comes Floor who can do about everything and who DOES everything to make it work..., it's almost hard not to feel sorry for her.
In the first 4 Nightwish songs I ever heard Floor doing, I counted at least thirteen completely different voices she's capable of using. And she uses these different voices precisely where you'd want to hear them. And it's always the right voice for the right parts to make these parts even better than they already are. I've heard amazingly good vocalists who could alter their own sound for the same reasons, but even the very best ones were 'limited' in the number of different tones they mastered. Five, maybe six....., but thirteen?!?!?! And that's just four songs.
In all honesty, I never really liked Nightwish. But with Floor..., how can you not love her and admire her for everything she's capable of doing? I'm in a Floor flow for weeks now. I'm losing my sleep because of it. She just keeps amazing me. It's ridiculous!
It may not seem that way, but I actually never wanted to participate in that idiotic Tarja vs Anette vs Floor discussion. It's useless and for a huge part it's also a matter of personal preferences and more often than not those personal preferences lie in simple things like 'what was the first thing I heard and why did it emote me so much?' So I tried to be as objective as I possibly can.
Fortunately music is not a competition and everyone can and must relate to and love the musicians that speak for them personally. For me, that would be Floor.

After Tarja left, I was heartbroken. Anette is not bad, but she was not right for the songs written for and performed by Tarja. To me at that time Nightwish lost their special touch. When Floor was announced, I didn't really recognize they could improve that much. I refused to believe another singer could top Tarja. Floor did it! It feels as if this song was written for her!
Only years later I discovered Nightwish again watching their live performance at Wacken 2013 (recording, not live, sadly enough). Since then I say... Tarja was great at this song, and unfortunately Anette could not hold a candle to Tarja in these songs asking for such vocals (but at least she made a best effort for the fans!), and after the split it was as if a miracle had happened... Floor came on short notice and soon made this song her own!
Sorry, Tarja, where Floor makes all audience have tears of joy in their eyes, goosebumps everywhere, cause racing hearts bursting with emotions, you were already gone from the stage. And Floor stayed with the band all the way rocking with them full of power. What a symbolic act. Floor rightfully earns her position, and her variability of the voice shows so much in this song. Floor really fits best to Nightwish after all, as she can add belt and grit, as well as classic singing where the other two nice ladies were simply staying with each of their one iconic styles.

So, since this is what everyone is talking about, let me give you my opinion on the three Nightwish female lead vocalists: Tarja, Annette and Floor.
*Tarja* : For me, Tarja will forever be the best female vocalist Nightwish had. Her voice touches me so deeply and her feelings are so clear in every single note she sings. She gave us some of the most epic songs or interpretations of songs of all time like "Walking in the Air", "Sleeping Sun" and much more. For me, she will always be the voice of Nightwish. I miss her very much, even after ten years, but I have welcomed both her substitutes.
*Annette* : Annette is a very talented singer and her voice is so icy and magical, if you get me. I appreciate her very much. She gave us some very nice songs like "For The Heart I Once Had" and the epic ride that is the entire _Imaginaerum_ album. However I personally could never fully connect her with the band. I am still not sure why, seeing as I love the songs of that era but something didn't fit the picture for me. She was very good though, and I think she will go on and produce great music, solo or with another band.
*Floor* : Floor has the very voice between the styles of Annette and Tarja. I still don't have a complete opinion on her as I have heard only a few songs of hers but I can't wait for the new album to be released so that I can form a more accurate opinion. For now, I can only say that so far she has done a very good work. I really was impressed the first time I saw her live. I hope she goes on.

Even when taking the unfair comparison (phone recording Anette) into account, it's quite clear, in my opinion Floor's version the best by far. The song is EPIC as hell, and her vocals definately support that epic glorious bombastic feeling the best. I mean come on, Floor's killing it! You can just tell she really feels the song and makes it her own and that, only after a couple months. It's a sign of good things to come. This is my ultimate Nightwish moment, it almost gets tears in my eyes. Call me a sissy, I don't care :)
Can't wait to see Floor with Nightwish in NL/BE and I'm very proud to have a dutchy singing in one of the biggest symphonic metalbands on the planet. Will see her with her band Revamp this january though, woo!!!

For Me Both Tarja And Floor Are Nailed This Song
Some bands have a singer that can belt, some have a singer that can hit those high notes flawlessly, some have a singer that can growl to hell and back, some have a singer that can hold a note forever... then there is Floor! She can do it all... She changed Nightwish and Nightwish evolved for (and because) of her!
When I first heard this song with Tarja I didn't think it could get any better. Than I recently heard the version with Floor and I was stunned, because it was the best version of the song I had ever head. Tarja is a brilliant singer but I think Floors voice is more versatile/powerful than hers. Floor has always been my favourite metalsinger. Than for Annette she's a good singer but I don't think her voice is for this song.
I would give it a thumbs up because their voices are great (yep, all of the 3) but the negative comments towards Anette are unnecesary and unfair.
I was present at two of these three shows (Lowlands & Hartwall)! 😍
Really Really! Floor is the best IMHO!
