Same here. I love almost every single piece of Nightwish but this is and will ever be my all time favourite just because it puts everything that Nightwish is made of into one single, perfectly orchestrated monument of musical history.
It seemed that you also liked Nightwish as a whole and just not Floor. Nightwish is a symphonic metal band. I am 65 yrs old and I discovered them about 5 years ago. I really don't like a lot of harsh vocals so I do not get into a lot of other genres of metal. If you really liked this I think you will like their music. Just give it a chance. It might surprise you. If you do not want to do a lot of reactions listen to it for yourself. But I hope you will want to give your reaction to some more of their songs. If you do listen to more, for now I would do songs from this concert at Wacken 2013..................... :-)
Floor is currently on a Dutch TV show titled BesteZangers (Best Singers). Basically they gathered seven singers and each episode the center one singer on a couch and the other singers take turns singing to that singer. The singers are from all over .. Opera, Rock, Pop, Latin etc. In the first episode Floor sings to Henk Port (Opera, Theater) and sings Vilja lied in German from The Merry Widow .. but modified to fit with her Symphonic Metal style I think - ruclips.net/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/видео.html

@@eTraxx Depends on what you mean by lesser-known. She's pretty well-known in the Dutch metal scene but that is such a niche audience nowadays that it doesn't mean much. The mainstream has pretty much no idea about the fairly internationally successful symphonic metal bands that are from The Netherlands. The Beste Zangers show might change that slightly I hope.
Also, while Tuomas is a genius composer who can make this "crossover" work very well, this song had been written for another singer. And it had not been long since she joined the band on short notice.
I agree. But, as a lifelong RUSH fan, their shows were routinely well over two hours - more like three - in length, and they did some of the most amazing musical gymnastics ever performed, with only THREE band members.
Nightwish in my honest opinion is one of the best metal bands hands down, her voice is so beautiful and nobody would of figured this style of music would fit her voice, but the band has proven everyone wrong on this subject
Nightwish is what happens when talented classically trained musicians have a not-so-secret love for metal. There is actually an entire genre of music like this (though IMHO Nightwish is the best of them) called Symphonic Metal. Other bands in this genre that you may enjoy are Epica, Delain, After Forever (Floor's first band), Leaves' Eyes (they also have a bit of a Norse folk metal bent), and Within Temptation, just to name a few. It is a great genre of music. Also, Nightwish just released their new album, a 2 disk compilation called Human || Nature. I'd highly recommend that you listen to that, Especially "Shoemaker" and "How is the Heart?".
I’ve seen about 100 reactions to this song & Floor. This is probably my favorite. It’s great to see a classically trained singer give perspective on this metal Goddess. Congrats on having your first of many Floorgasms. I would suggest Poet & the Pendulum live at Wembley next. She shows even more vocal range through a score of 5 acts. I am binge watching the reactions for the last few months. I've been a fan literally all my life so emotions from their songs are nothing new to me, but seeing so many people go through the same is just so...yeah I have goosebumps literally everytime

I agree. These are amazing songs, sometimes it takes me a minute to fully understand, but mate, the are fantastic. Combining all these forms of music. Although I think you must be a bit crazy to be in able to make this.
The “non-correlation” between Floor’s voice and the heavy sound of the band is just about the most beautiful mixture that defines the extent of humanity. The black and the white. The beauty and the beast. No story, especially not the one told in “Ghost Love Score”, is one-sided. People tend to be one-sided in their convictions, and that unfortunately gets worse as one grows older. Nightwish, in my mind, is the conveyance of the human heart. The black and white that one can choose for the other, but never truly separate.
I have watched a number of your reactions now and love how emotionally invested you are in the performances. This is especially true when there is something in the performance or technique that you really really like. I think back to the reactions you did of Dimash and how you become almost giddy and sometimes to be point of being flustered. Keep up the great work, really enjoy it!
Ummm, I am human and did not have any goosebumps. Way over rated. I listen to a HUGE variety of music and am always checking out different genre and music from around the world. I don't listen to just one kind. It just doesn't do anything for me. I find it amazing that people actually buy into this stuff.

I agree with the Poet&Pendulum requests. Bonus points because it has Marko singing in it. I normally advise against doing P&P too early, but I have a good feeling that you will get it! Use the Wembley version with lyrics for added effect. And, since it's quite hard to make out if you don't know the singers voices very well yet: The intro is not Floor but a choir boy. The song itself has a pretty dark theme, Tuomas (the keyboarder and composer of almost all Nightwish songs) had a deep depressive phase after they fired their first singer and his youth friend Tarja (check out their Phantom of the Opera performancer from End of an Era some time). So he wrote all his feelings into this and actually kills himself in the song as a catharsis. Floor and Marko really bring those feelings to life - it's one of the most emotional songs for many Nightwish fans. The song title refers to the story "The pit and the pendulum" from Edgar Allen Poe, where a prisoner is threatened by a slowly descending giant pendulum blade.

Also, while that is a visual given during a live show, it cannot be assumed that everyone has seen it. So, based off the lyrics alone, I wondered if the Pendulum was a lyrical reference to Poe's story.
@@GothicElf68 Tuomas references a "swaying" and "descending" "blade" in the lyrics. Together with the title that made it pretty clear for me and the visual from the show (and the album cover btw, since it was originally meant to be the album title) just confirms it. The meaning behind it in my view is the deteriorating relationship with Tarja, which went on for quite some time and was probably pretty painful for all of them.
I think what I like so much about Floor is that she uses her voice and her aesthetic to command a presence that incarnates so many great things at once and presents an affirmative example that Beauty - Power - Control - Talent and Skill - Emotional Positivity - the things people seek out in life aren't mutually exclusive and that you don't have to abandon one in order to display the other, they can give the resulting value a multiplicative effect rather than purely subtracting focus from one another. :)
It keeps amazing me how much Tarja fans pop in Floor video's and try to put her down. Everyone with ears and a working brain recognises in Floor an absolute fantastic vocalist, much better then one trick pony Tarja, Floor can do Tarja stuff, Tarja can't do Floor stuff. She had some classical training at a conservatory, did a bit of rock acadamy and theater school. In total she had about 6 years of training in different styles. That's why she can sing practically anything she wants, from growling to full operatic.
The comment about how Floor brings her own style to this reminds me of an interview I saw with Floor, where she mentioned checking out the two previous singers and their style and decided it was a mistake, and that is when she decided to add her own style to the music. Personally I think she is a perfect singer for the evolution of the band.

This song is just so ridiculously powerful and Floor takes it to an entirely new level. I love the studio version but damn, she absolutely nails this song.
I stopped listening after they kicked tarja out even though it was her fault. It was tough on me cause i listened to the band since its creation. I remember reading the letter they posted for the public and just feeling crushed.

Very informative, thank you. I think she has also extreme control over her performance, just like over her singing. She is very much a perfectionist. Watch her in the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" (best singers). Very educational and shows off her versatility and technique. Probably technically the best rock singer on the planet right now.

That crossover you're speaking of is a genre called symphonic metal which is pretty popular world wide but probably the most in EU. Also Floor is classically trained so this is just a small taste of what she can do!
Yours is my favorite reaction. Great analysis! I like the insight. I agree, she leaves no doubt, she owns this song now and always. It is #1 with me and I just don't see anything replacing this performance. Epic, is the only word for it. Hands down.
I've only ever heard Tarja's version of this, so it's very interesting to see Floor's version. In the beginning, it really wasn't all that different and I couldn't discern between the two (I actually thought it was Tarja at first). But in the middle, I got to see more of the Floor I know from After Forever, and it worked very well. On another note, I think symphonic metal is the ultimate expression of music and that Ghost Love Score is the best song ever created.

This performance as a whole, with everything so tight, is a performance of a lifetime. Vocaly, she impress me by how easy she makes the transitions between all the different songstyles sound. I havent been able to listen to this a single time without my eyes cryin up. It's soooo powerful!

Since you started this journey, here are some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her. Absolutely, as you said she sings it in a composition of her own I thought: Wow, this is the very first song and you noticed that? Never saw anyone mention that and I saw a lot of reactions. Actually the song was not written for her and every time she sings it there are variations - she even does not "copy" herself and it would have been a great mistake to copy her predecessors. What makes this even MORE special... Floor had only been with the band less than a year at this concert! She was a fill in mid this tour. And OWNING it !!!
That's why the band asked Floor to become a permanent member of Nightwish and also why sh accepted the offer. She was perfect in the role of Frontwoman.

If you are interested.. their first singer Tarja Turunen is a trained opera singer, so she has more in common with you vocally. Check out Nightwish- "The phantom of the opera" live from the End of an era concert (which was in fact Tarja's last show with Nightwish). Also her solo stuff is amazing, she just released a new album called "In the raw"
If you want to get views on your channel do more nightwish with Floor. She has a massive army of fans in here. She is the third and most awesome vocalist in this band. The others were good too, but Floor gives so much more positive stuff to the world in the way of her personality. I think maybe she is the most accomplished female performer on the stage right now. All factors considered. Good reaction. Fun that she got you there in the end even though you chopped the climax into 14 pieces.
This is a sub genre that falls under the big umbrella of heavy metal. This is called symphonic metal, containing the properties of both western classical music as well as heavy metal. There are several bands but Nightwish is one of the most popular. Floor Jenson is the 3rd lead vocalist. The other two lead vocalists are also extremely talented. Glad you enjoyed this. It seemed that you also liked Nightwish as a whole and just not Floor. Nightwish is a symphonic metal band. I am 65 yrs old and I discovered them about 5 years ago. I really don't like a lot of harsh vocals so I do not get into a lot of other genres of metal. If you really liked this I think you will like their music. Just give it a chance. It might surprise you. If you do not want to do a lot of reactions listen to it for yourself.
But I hope you will want to give your reaction to some more of their songs. If you do listen to more, for now I would do songs from this concert at Wacken 2013..................... :-)

Floor is currently on a Dutch TV show titled BesteZangers (Best Singers). Basically they gathered seven singers and each episode the center one singer on a couch and the other singers take turns singing to that singer. The singers are from all over .. Opera, Rock, Pop, Latin etc. In the first episode Floor sings to Henk Port (Opera, Theater) and sings Vilja lied in German from The Merry Widow .. but modified to fit with her Symphonic Metal style I think - ruclips.net/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/видео.html

@@eTraxx Depends on what you mean by lesser-known. She's pretty well-known in the Dutch metal scene but that is such a niche audience nowadays that it doesn't mean much. The mainstream has pretty much no idea about the fairly internationally successful symphonic metal bands that are from The Netherlands. The Beste Zangers show might change that slightly I hope.

This song was performed in the midle of an almost 2 hour concert, and that is impressive!
Also, while Tuomas is a genius composer who can make this "crossover" work very well, this song had been written for another singer.
And it had not been long since she joined the band on short notice.
I agree. But, as a lifelong RUSH fan, their shows were routinely well over two hours - more like three - in length, and they did some of the most amazing musical gymnastics ever performed, with only THREE band members.

Nightwish in my honest opinion is one of the best metal bands hands down, her voice is so beautiful and nobody would of figured this style of music would fit her voice, but the band has proven everyone wrong on this subject

Nightwish is what happens when talented classically trained musicians have a not-so-secret love for metal. There is actually an entire genre of music like this (though IMHO Nightwish is the best of them) called Symphonic Metal. Other bands in this genre that you may enjoy are Epica, Delain, After Forever (Floor's first band), Leaves' Eyes (they also have a bit of a Norse folk metal bent), and Within Temptation, just to name a few. It is a great genre of music. Also, Nightwish just released their new album, a 2 disk compilation called Human || Nature. I'd highly recommend that you listen to that, Especially "Shoemaker" and "How is the Heart?".

The “non-correlation” between Floor’s voice and the heavy sound of the band is just about the most beautiful mixture that defines the extent of humanity.
The black and the white. The beauty and the beast. No story, especially not the one told in “Ghost Love Score”, is one-sided. People tend to be one-sided in their convictions, and that unfortunately gets worse as one grows older.
Nightwish, in my mind, is the conveyance of the human heart. The black and white that one can choose for the other, but never truly separate.

Ummm, I am human and did not have any goosebumps. Way over rated. I listen to a HUGE variety of music and am always checking out different genre and music from around the world. I don't listen to just one kind. It just doesn't do anything for me. I find it amazing that people actually buy into this stuff.

I agree with the Poet&Pendulum requests. Bonus points because it has Marko singing in it. I normally advise against doing P&P too early, but I have a good feeling that you will get it! Use the Wembley version with lyrics for added effect. And, since it's quite hard to make out if you don't know the singers voices very well yet: The intro is not Floor but a choir boy.
The song itself has a pretty dark theme, Tuomas (the keyboarder and composer of almost all Nightwish songs) had a deep depressive phase after they fired their first singer and his youth friend Tarja (check out their Phantom of the Opera performancer from End of an Era some time). So he wrote all his feelings into this and actually kills himself in the song as a catharsis. Floor and Marko really bring those feelings to life - it's one of the most emotional songs for many Nightwish fans.
The song title refers to the story "The pit and the pendulum" from Edgar Allen Poe, where a prisoner is threatened by a slowly descending giant pendulum blade.

Also, while that is a visual given during a live show, it cannot be assumed that everyone has seen it. So, based off the lyrics alone, I wondered if the Pendulum was a lyrical reference to Poe's story.

Together with the title that made it pretty clear for me and the visual from the show (and the album cover btw, since it was originally meant to be the album title) just confirms it. The meaning behind it in my view is the deteriorating relationship with Tarja, which went on for quite some time and was probably pretty painful for all of them.

I think what I like so much about Floor is that she uses her voice and her aesthetic to command a presence that incarnates so many great things at once and presents an affirmative example that Beauty - Power - Control - Talent and Skill - Emotional Positivity - the things people seek out in life aren't mutually exclusive and that you don't have to abandon one in order to display the other, they can give the resulting value a multiplicative effect rather than purely subtracting focus from one another. :)
It keeps amazing me how much Tarja fans pop in Floor video's and try to put her down. She had some classical training at a conservatory, did a bit of rock acadamy and theater school. In total she had about 6 years of training in different styles. That's why she can sing practically anything she wants, from growling to full operatic.
The comment about how Floor brings her own style to this reminds me of an interview I saw with Floor, where she mentioned checking out the two previous singers and their style and decided it was a mistake, and that is when she decided to add her own style to the music. Personally I think she is a perfect singer for the evolution of the band.

That crossover you're speaking of is a genre called symphonic metal which is pretty popular world wide but probably the most in EU. Also Floor is classically trained so this is just a small taste of what she can do!

I've only ever heard Tarja's version of this, so it's very interesting to see Floor's version. In the beginning, it really wasn't all that different and I couldn't discern between the two (I actually thought it was Tarja at first). But in the middle, I got to see more of the Floor I know from After Forever, and it worked very well.
On another note, I think symphonic metal is the ultimate expression of music and that Ghost Love Score is the best song ever created.
I'm *so glad* you reacted to this band, singer, and performance...specifically because of your intense classical focus. Having Linor's "blessing" means just that much more. They are a very rare & special group, and Floor is the perfect match for them!!!

Hello. Thank you for your deep analysis, very interesting to watch. Yes, she performed in her own unique style. Since you started this journey, here are some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live (Floor). I hope this helps.

@@dannyuk1523 You're 100% right. Have you listened to her perform 'About love I don't know a thing' yet? Very understated and calm, even quiet performance. No belt, no power - well, no 'loud' power from her voice, but a gorgeous and emotional performance.
Absolutely, as you said she sings it in a composition of her own I thought: Wow, this is the very first song and you noticed that? Never saw anyone mention that and I saw a lot of reactions.
Actually the song was not written for her and every time she sings it there are variations - she even does not "copy" herself and it would have been a great mistake to copy her predecessors.

I got emotional, really...this song is my Nightwish's favourite and I was used to listen to the original version Tarja sang, but still...the Floorgasm hits hard...OMG.

Nightwish first singer Tarja did this song first. With her own style. Floor has changed it to her style. Love both versions. For different reasons.

If you are interested.. their first singer Tarja Turunen is a trained opera singer, so she has more in common with you vocally. Check out Nightwish- "The phantom of the opera" live from the End of an era concert (which was in fact Tarja's last show with Nightwish). Also her solo stuff is amazing, she just released a new album called "In the raw"
If you want to get views on your channel do more nightwish with Floor. She has a massive army of fans in here. She is the third and most awesome vocalist in this band. The others were good too, but Floor gives so much more positive stuff to the world in the way of her personality.
I think maybe she is the most accomplished female performer on the stage right now. All factors considered.

This is a sub genre that falls under the big umbrella of heavy metal. This is called symphonic metal, containing the properties of both western classical music as well as heavy metal. There are several bands but Nightwish is one of the most popular. Floor Jenson is the 3rd lead vocalist. The other two lead vocalists are also extremely talented. Glad you enjoyed this.
