That's great news! However, I just updated with Steam and enabled "Mouse control for player 1" in the settings menu, but no movement from my mouse. Any advice? Once this is working I think a review update will be in order.
Hello Atari! I was wondering if you could please recharge tempest? By the way, love your games, but, PAC-MAN, and E.T. for Atari 2600? Yeah no.. anyways, yeah, anyways please recharge tempest.
Roller ball , track ball, or some form of it is essential to play Centipede. That being said, I'll get this on Xbox X/S based on your review it still looks fun!
#FACTS They did some adjustments to make the mouse a bit more "right," but the last time I played it still felt a bit drift-y. Thanks for watching, Ben.
Excellent and detailed review. Looks fun but as you said a few too many things missing that hold it back. Speaking of trackballs, I’m going to be importing the Taito Egret II mini arcade cab coming out early next year which has an optional trackball controller for games in the device which will support it like Arkanoid.
@@GenXGrownUp It’s pretty spendy for sure but I am a hardcore Taito fan (especially for Bubble Bobble, Space Invaders and their shooters) so won’t be able to resist, ha.
Thanks for the review Jon! It deviates a little too much from the original, which I'm a big fan of and still play alot on the 2600. That missile command in the intro looks really good though! The vectrex style works better for that game. This may sound weird but psychologically, the vectrex images make the threats appear to have less mass or stand out thus my subconsious seems to interpret them as a minor threat and I can imagine it'd be harder to concentrate on playing well then on the original. Not sure if it makes sense how I said it but felt the urge to share. Great video as usual!! Cheers!
Playing with a pad or joystick definitely is doable.. But as someone who’s experienced this in the arcade in it’s prime with a trackball there’s just nothing like it.. I’m hoping they can adjust this down the line or at least when they get to Millipede..
Nice premise, some nice execution, but too many gameplay misses. And i'm not talking about the missing mouse support. This was just screaming for the pac-man championship edition dx treatment. So close and yet so far.
I'm wondering if the missing features you're mentioning is the result of Atari wanting these games issued out ultra fast after their restructuring? That seems like an Atari move, imo
I wouldn't put that past Atari right now, but the developer, Adam Nickerson, does top-notch stuff and is the same dev from Missile Command. I get the feeling there were more constraints applied maybe because it was multi-platform rather than mobile? Perhaps that level progression was seen as a mobile app retention scheme and deemed unnecessary for a commercial title? If so, I that that's wrong thinking, but just my opinion. 😊
I just back into video games and I'm also a gen x gamer. To make a long story short; the paddle function on the new joystick acts as a track ball. We just have to develope our skills with it. The joystic maybe the selling point for the vcs especially the recharged series.
I get your point, Kyle, but I'm not onboard. Not providing for mouse/trackball in the world of mice as standard equipment is a mistake. Luckily, the developers agree and it's being added.
yeah, i tried out the steam version, same issue with the controls. tempest 4k had issue too with controllers, someone added mouse and spinner control later on. look out for black widow, asteroids and breakout later this year. later -1
Thanks for watching, neg. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they make it out this year after it took more than 12 months between the first two entries in the series! 😊
@@rushkiss2012 I'm not a PS4 user so I don't know about availability of the device (though a quick Google search suggests it is possible to add). The problem here is that the software doesn't support a mouse-ish device as a controller input.
I agree it doesn’t look like centipede / no weapon power up level system / that’s disappointing / that means the game is very limited 😔 / it’s a good try but no cigar
I'm an old gamer as well, but I own Centipede Recharged and it is a better game than the original arcade version, particularly in co-op mode. The power-ups also make the game more interesting. The Xbox controllers lack the precision of a good trackball, but Atari has stated in the comments here that they are adding mouse/trackball support soon. Centipede Recharged is definitely worth the ten bucks that we paid for it. My son and I have had more fun playing it together than any other recent video game. We currently have the 9th highest score in the world in co-op mode.
Hey GenXGrownUp (and everyone), we added mouse and trackball control for the PC versions on Stream and Epic. Thanks for the feedback ...

After several restarts, the mouse control finally kicked in. It seems to work periodically, similar to gamepad controls.
I hope there will be an Android version with mouse/trackball support in the future.
Thanks for taking such a detailed look at Centipede: Recharged, we took notes.
Thanks for taking the time to watch, Atari. 🙂 I'm very excited about upcoming Recharged titles; especially that new Breakout on the horizon!
Give us Jaguar games

The mouse thing is mind-blowing. It stopped me from purchasing it. I hope they change their minds.
Based on the comments I'm seeing in the Steam community tab, I predict that will be patched in with update #1! 🤞
@@GenXGrownUp that is a good prediction
Stop making me want games. I only have so much money, Jon!

Had to try out missile command. Hope the quirks get fixed on this one as well. Thanks for the review.

the large explosions hide the playing field and it makes the game really hard to watch and play
