Founder and owner of Hutch Bicycles. Rich Hutchins was a huge innovator for the sport of BMX. The quality and craftsmanship were second to none. Rich brought space-age materials such as magnesium and titanium to a new level. Hutch Bicycles set many of the "color" trends in the eighties with colors such as pink and lavender on framesets. He had an eye for the talent on the east coast and took his powerful Hutch squad to the first-ever ABA National #1 Factory Team in 1986. The Hutch squad also won its fair share of BMXA`s Nora Cup titles. Taking home the Nora Cups in 1984 and 1985. Richard Hutchins is retired now and rumored to own several IHOP`s across the U.S.

I had two Pro Racers, one in Chrome and one in Black. So light and durable. The Black one was my first and I was robbed at gunpoint, the thief got my wallet and my Hutch. My Dad's homeowners insurance bought me a new one in Chrome. That one was more tricked out since I knew more about what I wanted. I sold it to raise money for my first car. I'd love to have it now, even at 58 years old!

What a great blast from the past. I miss my child hood bmx/freestyle days. I have so many great memories of great bikes I was able to own or ride - hutch, gt, pk, haro, free agent, elf, redline, skyway -- they sure don't make bikes like they used to - I miss the CHROME bikes. And the electric pink and blue GT bikes... Its really a shame so many companies refuse to build them like they did in the 80s and 90s --

I had an Expert series Hutch, pre-serial number days. That was the last BMX bike I ever owned, mostly because I had no need to get something different. Takagi 175mm crank, 44/16 gearing, Araya rims, DK neck, Powerlite handlerbars (I really miss those), but NO bear trap pedals. I saw someone eat it once with those, no thanks. Loved my bike! Even took it lake jumping, trail riding in Oregon, and raced ABA, and NBL for a few years. Zero cracks, and took a lot of abuse. Great bike!

So where is your hutch now in Oregon? Or did you donate it or did you completely get rid of it? Because I had a hutch trick star.
