Great Information here, I watched a tree company by a local school trim a row of 100 plus year old oaks one summer.....two months later they were dead as could be. That home owner next to the school lost ALL of their beautiful back yard trees due to this mistake made. It was sad to see, Glad you guys are being safe and taking care in your forest management. Happy New Year
It is sad to see those old beautiful trees die from such a preventable mistake. We feel bad but hopefully our mistake can help someone else. Happy New Year to you both! 🎉
This is good information to know being Glenda and I have 26 acres of all different types of trees. I am learning how to identify trees that I’m not familiar with. I follow a RUclips channel called Purdue extension - forestry and natural resources. They show you how to identify many different species of trees. They use leaves, needles, cones, bark, and I find it pretty interesting. I know a handful of trees up there. And trying to learn more of them. It’s a big help.
Enjoys your videos …….fellow Michigander here …..just my two cents but your overgrown “Xmas” trees look like non native spruce and they have “spruce kill”…. A disease caused from not enough air circulation because they were planted too close together. The spruce kill starts at the bottom and will eventually kill the entire tree. We had a very similar situation on our property. We had an arborist come out and diagnose it. There are programs through your local conservation department that will subsidize replacing the non native trees with native varieties. Good luck ….and looking forward to seeing more of your progress.
That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the information. They sure look terrible and it would be great to have some native trees there. Happy New Year to you! 😊
What exactly is a homestead? Every person with an iphone and more than 1 acre doesn't own a house and some property anymore, they own a "homestead". Not me. I have a house on 14+ acres of woods. I'm pretty sure I do all kinds of "homesteady" things, I just refuse to sound like a dork and call my house and property a homestead.
Well, there is more than one definition. Here's one that might apply to this channel: "To live frugally or self-sufficiently, especially by growing and preserving food" And here's another: "The home and adjoining land occupied by a family" And one more: "to acquire or occupy land" And of course there's the definition of purchasing land from the government under the homesteading act. Take your pick. And hey, the most important thing in life is to not sound stupid, inept, or foolish, so yay for you! 🎉
Great to know about red v white oak leaves for identification

Very interesting video. I love oak trees and have never heard of this before.
It’s more prevalent in the Midwest but hopefully increased knowledge will stop the spread. Happy New Year to you both! 🎉

I’ll have to check that out. I’m not very good at my tree identification but I’d like to be better at it. 😊

Maybe you'll make something nice out of the lumber from that oak. Can live on that way. Happy New Year.
That’s a great idea! Thanks and Happy New Year to you! 😊

Call your property anything you want but purchase a dictionary
