When The NBA Thought The OKC Thunder Overpaid Him

The OKC Thunder have been continuing their domination of the NBA. Despite being down a lot of players, despite playing small ball most of the time without a real center in their lineup, the Thunder have been able to defeat teams like the Golden State Warriors. Oklahoma City is still led by their superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rising star Jalen Williams, while generational big man Chet Holmgren is out for a couple months. One offseason move that's already seems to pay off for the Thunder has been the signing of 7 foot center Isaiah Hartenstein who has brought some added size and physicality to the Thunder roster. Hartenstein and Caruso have been OKCs priced offseason acquisitions and they are helping this Thunder core thrive.
The Thunder are currently leading the NBA in net rating and defensive rating. This puts them at par with the defending champion Boston Celtics, the emerging Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets and Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors who seem to be contenders again. The NBA Cup is ongoing and the Thunder will be battling LeBron James and the Lakers. There is also the question if OKC can finally beat Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in a potential rematch on top of the Western Conference playoff bracket.
Sam Presti has built a sustainable Oklahoma City Thunder core with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Lu Dort, Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins, Ousmane Dieng, Jaylin Williams, Ajay Mitchell, and now have added Isaiah Hartenstain and Alex Caruso to the mix. Can the Thunder actually emerge as NBA championship contenders by the end of the season? Lets evaluate how Isaiah Hartenstein has allowed the Thunder to play bigger without Chet Holmgren.

Is Hartenstein the Missing Piece for an OKC NBA Title? 🤔
Ironic that the first syllable of his last name is Hart 💓 because that's what he brings to the table as much as skill. Dudes a Warrior (and not the gay by the bay kind)
Too me.. yes. He’s everything plus experience in the league with Alex in the back with the bench young, need to hit 3’s more consistently and attacking the pain as well.
He is clearly one of them at least.
I can’t wait to see Hartenstein and Chet on the court together. The defense is borderline historic already but having both of them and Caruso back will take the defense to godly levels
no cap!
2 centers will be food for a team with 2 elite guards.
@@leoreoibardo9294they both are solid on perimeter and the Thunder have plenty of elite perimeter defenders.
@@Aneeshtheofan solid perimeter defender ain't enough for an elite pg. yeah, I know they have elite perimeter defenders but I'm talking about swapping that perimeter defender for another center in a lineup.
@@leoreoibardo9294 caruso is a guard stopper.
chet and hartenstein gonna be soooo great
💪
As an OKC fan who hears a lot of crappy takes on the Thunder, this was awesome. Great video!
Appreciate it man! Thunder up
Love the JWill analogy.. both Hartenstein and Jwill are good passers although the difference is Hartenstein is a really good rebounder
Jwill spaces the floor a little more though since he can shoot 3s a bit better
And Jwill is a good shooter and great at takin charges
Harenstein is underrated on offense end, screening, passing and soft touch around the rim. Add back Chet shooting and rim protection and THUNDER are terrifying.
Rotation
1. SGA
2. J Wub
3. Dort
4. Chet
5. Harenstein
But bench of Caruso, Wiggins, Joe, Wallace, even J Will, Kenchrich Williams & Dieng are solid length and plus defense.
Crazy team.
Hartenstien is 250 lbs and really strong , this why he gets so many offensive rebounds and sets such devastating picks.
Bro really said JxmyHighroller with the thumbnail 😂
You weren't paying attention last year if you thought hartenstein didnt earn that contract. Elite rebounder, great team defender, good finisher, great in pick and roll and very good passer for a big man. Hes the perfect complimentary big for pretty much any team build
Love your vids ❤ One thing I-Hart has been working on is his 3 pt shot, he hasn't been using this in actual games yet so he has another critical string to his bow and if he starts nailing a couple 3's a game he will stretch the floor even more
appreciate it mate ♥️
Hartenstein was always worth every penny of this deal. It took about 10 minutes of research to realize why he’s such a valuable piece. Best screener in the league? Possibly! One of the greatest defending 5s. Real solid playmaker. Sweet push-shot and floater game. Great pace on the fast break. Elite IQ. Very malleable and extremely high motor. He’s just a winner and a true championship piece. Youth is on his side and his role is perfect in OKC
Really good video. Keep it up!
appreciate it man
With hartensteins imposing physichality and chets immense skills we looking dangerous
SGA, Dort, J-Dub, Chet and Hartenstein. That's a deadly five.
💪
Interesting he still uses the floaters against smaller defenders as well. He could easily generate free throws by posting them up or flat out bullying them by the rim... either they foul or they get dunked on/scored on. I'm not knocking his game and the great things he already brings to the team, but I'd love to see him bring the same intensity to his scoring that he brings to his defense
I'm excited to see what it looks like once JWill gets back and we see him on the floor with Hartenstein.
Knicks got cheated out of keeping him.
They paid for what they needed and what they thought he was worth
He's an improvement
for sure!
I love me some 7 foot bigs
Knicks fans wouldn’t tell you that
IHart is fitting in beautifully and massively exceeding all expectations but the initial thought that OKC paid too much seemed logical considering for his career he's only averaging 6 points and 6 rebounds per game and he's been in the league 5 years. What I really don't get is why OKC (Sam Presti GM) traded away Sengun and Lively when it's pretty clear either of them would have been just as effective and MUCH less money. I'm glad everything is working out but you can understand the logic behind the doubt.
Sengun though! He was my favorite out of the 2021 draft class and I had him mocked to the Thunder. It all worked out in the end though
@@riroballs The problem though is if you put Sengun with OKC they most likely win a championship last season and they would be much stronger plus it would have cost less. That dude is a legit big man.
yeah man.. the only question is, would we have landed Chet the year after if we actually didn't trade Sengun on draft night 2021
@@riroballs Or they could have kept Lively. Put him on that team last year they most certainly beat Dallas and might very well have won it all.
@@joeldriver-sp2rg if we get Lively we don't have Cason though. Cason has been a huge impact on the defensive end.
good video
appreciate it man!
OKCs biggest name signings were D Fish & Butler
was trying to talk about the biggest salaries though.. but yeah d fish and Caron Butler for sure were big names.. crazy to think they only signed for more than one million each
OKC VS CELTICS FINALS IF EVERYONE STAYS HEALTHY ENOUGH!
Why everyone is injured
Literally no one thought that OKC overpaid Isaiah Hartenstein. LMAO
@@b0rgz im a Thunder fan and a lot of us initially thought we overpayed him
Idk why people keep saying son cant shoot outside shots, lets not forget his clippers stint
@@POLYNESlA that's like saying PJ Tucker is a big man just because he played center in Houston a couple years ago. IHart never attempted 3 pointers on volume so he isn't really an outside shooting big
half of those screens are moving
I hate gsw..first chet and then jalen
Jalen is fine he suiting up tonight
yup! always 😭
Paul George was the biggest free agent they signed, among guys they did not draft.
PG did not actually enter free agency though. though he was technically a free agent i guess
Was a trade not a signing.
@@indelentThey traded for him in the last year of his contract, and then he signed with the Thunder in free agency the following year, when he could have gone anywhere.
Oladipo Trade
PG came in a trade not a free agent
no one thought OKC overpaid ihart. thats dumb to imply that it was ever a popular sentiment
Most of those comments were definitely salty Knick fans
MVP Of Euro league?
Hartenstein reminds us of Okc Adams
facts!
If they can’t beat Jokic with both Chet and Hartenstein they are hopeless
Jokic hasn't beaten a 50 win team in the playoffs yet in his career. They've got issues of their own to figure out.
They beat the nuggets by 30 and kept them below 95 with a healthy roster. So yea I don’t think the nuggets will be a issue when the Thunder have Chet and ihart
Chet locked up Jokic and nuggets are worse this year we not worried
We already beat them though with no Hartenstein. Having both is the recipe for disaster for any team in the league.
@@J-Hue This is a lame comment given the impact the covid lockdown has had on the playing schedule. In 2020 only 72 games were played iso 82: they beat the Utah Jazz who had a 61% win rate which would have been 50 wins in a full season. Then they beat the Clippers who were at 68% win rate, which would have translated to 55 wins. In 2021 and 22 they had injuries and in 2023 they were the champions but didn't meet a 50+ win team, how is any of that Jokic' fault?
bro who let okc do all this man i cant believe it, the second appron is not enough axe the thunder and Celtics I cant live my life as a hornets fan with those try hard ahh teams
The second apron is definitely enough. OKC is a young team and built through the draft and the Celtics need all of their stars healthy in the playoffs or they will not repeat.
@MatthewLum1 bro im just hating hhh
