      @@keyofweird I figured I would go away, listen to this and then come back and trash it.... but I quite enjoyed your music. Second song gave me Kings of Leon vibes at parts. Crowning the Hangman reminded me a bit of something I would hear from A Perfect Circle. Anyway, wish you and the band all the best going forward :)
      I think you would have gotten less hate from us PF fans if you had not went into the reaction video already clearly dismissing it before you had heard it. And then actually paying proper attention to it rather than playing with your own guitar.

      I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it. Unfortunately, the band broke up shortly after we finished up the demo 🤣
      Also, what you guys see as clearly dismissive is actually a joke about how my viewers think I'm weird for not having listened to a lot of popular music growing up. In my chat on the top left corner, you can see one of them say, "Time to culture your ass" because they brought the song to the stream to have me listen to it. I'm not actually dismissing the song before I listen to it. I'm being facituous. It's an "unfortunate" by-product of these reactions. Some of the context is lost between the live stream Music Share and the edited video that gets uploaded to RUclips. Hopefully that clears things up.

    An extremely painful watch through and through. From the wrong-note playing all over the recordings, to not even being able to finish a song without being distracted by random bullshit, to the L take after L take. Like this dude with 771 subscribers called lord of the rings and pink floyd "quaint" lol
    By this guys logic "Beethoven was doing some cool lil stuff but its just so old and boring like just play a different groove don't do what youre doing"
    Not to mention Imagine being a guitarist and having zero appreciation for one of the GOATS of guitar David Gilmour.
    Next he'll be like oh yea zeppelin is too bluesy lmfao
    Like no shit. It all came from the blues.

      Hi Joseph. Going off your picture, it looks like you're a younger dude so I can finally take my frustrations out on someone in this comment section without feeling like I'm committing elder abuse. Thank you for your contribution to my mental well being.
      Yes, I was playing the wrong notes. I don't have perfect pitch. People without perfect pitch tend to need some time to figure out the chords.
      Yes, I pause, rewind, and talk during these as they're from a stream because 1, I'm talking to my viewers and 2, it makes it easier for the VOD to not get muted.
      Yes, I have 771 subscribers. I don't know why it matters to you. If I had a million subscribers, would that make me more correct?
      Yes, by my logic Beethoven did do some pretty cool things and I would get bored after about a minute. I know because I've had to listen to it.
      In the video, I literally say I appreciate the band for what they contributed to music.
      While Zeppelin is definitely Bluesy, Bonham was an absolutely groovy motherfucker who brought out a lot more than just Blues.
      And lastly, Joseph, I couldn't give one less of a shit about all the people in these comments (other than the fucking sweet ass engagement). The video is the most milquetoast "criticism" of Pink Floyd imaginable and you guys are incapable of even imagining that someone, somewhere doesn't like SOME aspects of one, singular Pink Floyd song.
      You didn't write the song and you aren't in Pink Floyd and even if you were this isn't an attack on your personhood, your mental state, your past, or any music you've made past, present, or future. ✌️

      Hey dude! I know we're at opposite sides of this but I sincerely do appreciate you taking time to think about my question and coming back in with a level head. Much respect.
      _So as a musician, let me ask you a question._
      Shoot.
      _I come into your performance, specifically to give you feedback on your music. While you're performing, you notice that I'm talking to people at the bar, scrolling through my notebook and talking on my phone. At the end of the performance, you ask me how I liked your music. I say "Oh, uh, it was good. Real good." Now, I ask you, is that a valid assessment of your performance?_
      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by valid. Valid, in this case, seems to imply "thorough" or "well thought out" so if that's the case, then I would say no, that wasn't a thorough or well thought out assessment. However, to me, every opinion is technically valid, but, I care more about who the person is and why they're saying what they're saying. For example, I have no idea who you are or what you do so I wouldn't put much stock into your assessment, positive or negative, though it would make me feel good about myself. However, if we use the same scenario but swap you out for a touring drummer who I admire, that assessment may mean the world to me.
      _It was, after all, positive, right?_
      Yes, it was positive but I have a feeling we aren't talking about the same thing anymore.
      _So whether you liked PF or not, your review lacked authenticity._
      So "valid" means "authentic"? How can you reliably test for that? How do you know what authenticity from me looks like?
      _One other person on here listened to some of your work, and by his own admission, was ready to rip it. He, instead, found quality and expressed as much. Now that's a valid critique._
      I don't understand how this is a valid critique. They said one song sounded like Kings of Leon and the other like A Perfect Circle and nothing else. Here, it seems "valid" no longer implies "thorough" or "authentic." Now it seems like "valid" means, "Thought one thing but came out with a different conclusion."
      Your scenario isn't analogous to what I asked and doesn't answer my initial question. You left a negative comment insinuating that since I was doing other things, there's no way I was listening to the song. My question wasn't "Do you think a positive reaction would make it more of a valid assessment?" My question was, "If I sat there and played my guitar and paused a whole bunch but only said positive things about the song, would you feel it necessary to still write your comment?"
      This is why I'm working on a video about music reactions. It seems to me that people, and I mean no offense, care more about a sense of validation and community when they watch music reactions. Much like showing a friend a new song you know they'd like, people come to these videos to find another person who also likes what they like to feel something like that. That's why despite calling this a reaction and voicing some critical, yet specific criticism, I'm told I wasn't thorough enough or just don't understand what I'm listening to. This isn't meant to be a full critique of the song, album or band. It's a reaction that I had during a Music Share stream where people come in and share music with me and other viewers. I say what I say, try to give my best guess at why I'm feeling how I feel, add information when possible and try to stay away from certain language like "good" and "bad" while using "I feel" statements.

    Mid 80's ha, that puts them at least 10 years ahead of the pack. Current stuff is more experimental, wtf, these guys were creating loops by measuring actual tape and running it around the studio, not sitting at a computer console with a mouse.

    • @keyofweird
      @keyofweird  Год назад

      I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Technology changing means experimenting comes from different avenues. We don't need to create loops by measuring out tape anymore. Instead, we now use DAWs and plug-ins to combine different types of sounds which is experimental, even if it doesn't meet your standard.
      Furthermore, I don't understand this obsession with calling out one particular portion of the music sphere and using it as a metric for the rest. There are still plenty of musicians who use real instruments in unique ways and who are constantly pushing virtuosity. There's more music than just what's on the radio or on the Top 100.

    That 12 minute comment hurt, especially considering their discog since they have a lot of longer progressive songs. Also, the whole dark side of the moon album is a concept album with many songs leading into one another, the wall being an overarching narrative, animals being 3 long songs loosely based on Orwellian ideas. Some of their older work around Syd Barrett’s time sounds very unique among their discography, as well.

    I guess I don't understand the concept of "old" when it comes to great music. Why don't you go ahead and bring your best representative sample of better, more contemporary music and show us what you mean. Regardless of what you bring to the table, here is my prediction: 9 out of 10 people will prefer PF to your pick, with proper presentation, and you will fail in trying to convince anyone that there is some sort of evolution of music that makes it better over time. Why do you try so hard to hate them, instead of actually listening to the performance the way it was designed to be heard? Your ignorance of this band exposes your arrogance.

    • @keyofweird
      @keyofweird  Год назад

      Sure, I could explain it.
      In music, and probably art in general, there's a constant forward momentum. Artists make things, new artists come along, grow up and learn those things and create new ideas. Because I'm 31 and grew up mostly listening to the modern music of my time, I have my own tastes which usually skew towards more modern music, in particular, I really enjoy music that demonstrates a certain level of technicality in an instrument, though as of recent, I've also taken to technicality in production and engineering as well. Most older popular music has the blueprints for a lot of what I've heard from artists today. It's why I said that while I don't necessarily enjoy all of it, I can still appreciate the song for what it's given to the music I listen to today, especially Pink Floyd's penchant for key changes that I love.
      The most reductive way I can put it is I tend to enjoy music with more notes. That isn't to say that songs that don't do that are "bad" in the sense that they are morally bad or that the musicians don't have great technical ability, just that I don't usually prefer it. I do have slow songs with less notes that I do like but even those tend to be of a certain flavor.
      As for the rest of what you said:
      I can give you the most recent songs I've listened to but I wouldn't call it better, just different. Also, like you so quickly mentioned, you wouldn't actually care because you're not interested in hearing it in an attempt to learn about me. You, like the vast majority of commenters, had their egos bruised and want the music I listen to so you can throw it back at my face and tell me it's shit, expecting me to stamp my feet and cry. I don't care about convincing you or anyone. This is the way I currently see music. That may change in the future and I'm okay with that.
      I'm not trying to hate it because I don't actually hate it. I'm allowed to listen to music however I see fit. That's the fun part about music and art. I can consume it in my way and it isn't wrong. Just different.

    • @PatrickORourke-xz3kp
      @PatrickORourke-xz3kp Год назад

      @@keyofweird No, KOW, I never said nor intimated I would hate anything and I never would. What I wrote was that you would fail to prove any evolution produced "better" music. You did explain yourself, that you recognize "better" is not the right adjective, and you give PF some appreciation. The issue I have is that you are completely unaware of the intent of the production as a work of art and are parcing it and comparing a piece of it to the current version of short, cropped and neatly packaged bite sized compositions. Again, no worse or better, but you pretend you understand "Time" without knowing all the other songs on DSOTM and you have no clue that the last part you admitted to liking was actually a different song and represented another shift in evolution of the album through philosophical meditations.

    • @keyofweird
      @keyofweird  Год назад

      I understand that there is a story to this album but that typically doesn't help me enjoy one particular song. I didn't say I understood the song to its fullest extent. I simply said what the song was making me feel and why I think I was feeling that way. That's literally it. My opinion on this one song in this one span of time is all I'm giving you. The rest is being inferred by others. I don't think the rest of the album is "bad" just because I had a lukewarm experience with this song and I'm still looking forward to marking off "Listen to the Pink Floyd discography" from my bucket list.

Never assume they are wrong until you sit back and really think. Sure makes life fun and new knowledge is always just around the corner for all of us. I actually love life and it's adventures.

      @keyofweird  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure that necessarily answers my questions. I'll try to tie it back to your original comment.
      Personally, I don't believe people can be without prejudice. The most we can do is withhold that judgment until we make ourselves feel a different way or, like most, just ignore it and move on. That may be polite, maybe even selfish, but it's not real. Music is art and art is subjective. You aren't going to like everything and that should be okay to say.
      This video is actually a highlight from a live stream that I do. Specifically, every Monday, I run a Music Share Night where viewers drop links to songs they want to share. I play the song and I say what I'm thinking with as little as filter as possible. From that, I get these reactions. Messy, incoherent, wishy-washy, sometimes down right mean, but genuine reactions. I understand that the average RUclips reaction channel isn't like this but instead of planting myself on the other side of those reactors and join the "cool kids" who hate everything, I stand in the middle.
      In music, I try to find things I like and dislike. To me, no song is a masterpiece the same way no song is unlistenable. I hope that clears things up.

    You’re so far ahead? Todays music absolutely sucks! There is no comparison. Pink Floyd were true artists. Maybe prog. Metal is more your speed? Check out Panic attack by Dream Theater. That’ll loosen your sphincter!
    Or maybe The Spirit of Radio by Rush. Not prog. Metal but Prog. None the less.

      Can you point me to the time where I said that I was so far ahead? I'm pretty sure I said we, as in the collective world, are 40-50 years away from the peak of Pink Floyd. With the way that music works, people hear something, emulate it, then make their own version of it, creating something new.
      Thanks for the recommendation. I've actually already listened to Panic Attack as well as my fair share of Dream Theater.
