Ditto, and I'm 60 now. First time I heard them was somebody's school project about time, and guess what song they used during the slide show? I have seen them twice in concert, both times were phenomenal, and I have been to 30+ concerts, in my time, and the only time I spent more than $20 or $25 was for the Amnesty International show, which was around $50. In fact, one of my prize possesions is one of my Pink Floyd ticket stubs has 'Complimetary Ticket' outline stamped on the ticket!

This is great, man, I’m so glad you did it, and I can’t wait for part two!
My only advice is, for albums old enough to have been originally released on vinyl, you should find out which songs were side one and side two, and try to split the reaction at that point. Before CDs came out, a record always had two sides and you always had to flip it, so the artists who made great albums would use that break in the middle for effect, sort of like the intermission in a stage play.
Seriously though, thanks for this. I’m sure it made a lot of your listeners happy. I’d love to see you do the same thing with Pink Floyd’s album Animals, as it is my personal favorite. I’d also like to see you do a side one/side two breakdown of Abbey Road by The Beatles, as that is possibly my favorite album of all time. Keep it coming, man. Love.

I find this one of the most incredible prices of music I’ve ever heard. “The Great Gig in the Sky” is it. BUT- you’re going to have to replay this last song first. You can’t just go into it. Your stopping point was unfortunate. Thanks for doing this!

Great to see someone listen to this for the first time. Don't worry, we all had pretty much the same response when we first heard it on the radio or a friends stereo when it came out in 1973. If you check out what they started doing in about 1968...playing longer, more complex songs that took you on a journey, taking you into outer space or an English garden, all while sitting in your basement or bedroom. Then songs like Echoes would take up an entire side of an album. The next logical step was an album of "songs", but really was one long piece of music based around a theme. The result was Dark Side Of The Moon. Ready for part 2 when you are.

I love how you described this album as a wave pool, that’s a beautiful way to describe the experience. Ripples crashing into each other, contained in a small space. It can wash over you, but every wave almost feels familiar. I’ve listened to this album since I was a little girl, and it really feels like it comes from within. It’s close to your heart, regardless as to whether it’s you first or fiftieth listen

My first concert I was 19, Pink Floyd in Rome Flaminio Stadium, 1989. Their music literally blew my mind for over 2 hours
The big screen behind the band showed vids connected to music, a big pink pig flew on the crowd disappearing somewhere behind the stage... It was a once-in-a-life experience I will NEVER forget!
Pink Floyd Music takes you away in another dimension!
I suggest you to listen to Echoes

CD's changed how music is consumed. Before CD's you played albums by the side, from the first to the last track. When putting a vinyl album together, even ones that weren't "concept albums" like DSotM, artists arranged the tracks so there was a flow to it. For teenaged me in the 70's, listening to an album was a 45 minute journey where I felt I had travelled to a destination and back.
Watching you hear David Gilmour's more inspired guitar work for the first time was a treat. You'd stop bobbing your head and put your hands over your eyes and I have to say that I felt exactly what you were feeling. Even after all these years and many listens, that feeling never goes away. Love ya, man. Happy you now know what we had on the radio when we were growing up.

You put it into words very well. That is just the way Floyd has always made me feel. It's an 'experience'. Best part is that it's a joint project. Floyd gives you the soundtrack and you supply the pictures in you head and the emotional response. You are lucky to come to it young enough to enjoy it through your life, the way I did back in the day. I'm happy for you.

  • @Aaron_Kirk

I did not take the time to search through all the comments so for5give me if this was brought up already.
Pink Floyd is a very Hi Fidelity sound. And as such the compression of RUclips on the experience of the music is quite detrimental to the overall experience.
Purchase or borrow true version of the album. Then take the time and listen to the entire album with your head phones.
It is a very fine experience...and honestly one most people enjoy.
The Wall is also an amazing experience that should be had in its entirety without the compression of RUclips.
    Thanks for your vids man.

This reminds me: I just came across your channel a few days ago and watched your reaction to the Prophet's Song. I wanted to say something then but since the post was already a couple of months old I didn't think anyone would pick up on it. At the end of the song, there is an acoustic piece. As you listened to just this song, that prologue doesn't make much sense musically. To fully appreciate that section, you need to continue to the next song -- Love of My Life. When you do that, the acoustics section makes total sense; it's a transition piece.

Pink Floyd along with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Queen are in my opinion the 4 best rock bands of all time for me there will never be anyone better. If you love music you have to appreciate that Floyd, Zeppelin are epic pieces in their own right, listening to the instruments, techniques, lyrics and complete mastery of the songs is something that you just don't hear this raw talent any more. No auto tune, playing live meant singing, playing and hearing everything live. Can you tell my favourites 1. Zeppelin, 2. Queen and Floyd on par and 3. Beatles. Pure brilliance 4. Is Elton John ha
Respect because you are listening to music from the 70's without dissing it like a lot of youth today so thankyou for giving it that.

I haven’t looked, but if you haven’t done it yet and would consider it, Pink Floyd The Wall is an excellent follow-up. But like Dark Side, you have to listen to the whole thing together.

    hello Jojo,
I enjoyed watching you listening to my music. I am 71 years old and am still fascinated with the amazing music that came out of the 60s. The creativity was "off the hook". The variety of rock music that came out was because the music companies were hungry for something new. Once the rock musicians of that time became successful they dictated what THEY wanted. Different music companies were scrambling and falling over each other to get the next great sound. The successful groups did not want to be pigeon-holed. If they were being dictated to, they went to another company or like the Beatles, started their own. Successful groups didn't worry about money like the companies and thus can experiment. Take care, George
