I am very cold here... in San Francisco, but that says more about me and less about the weather. 🤣I assumed this was about the sailing stones in Death Valley, and I like the commenter who pointed out that we're in space too. I'm enjoying this calendar so far, though I see some other folks aren't as impressed. Like you said, I think there are a lot of really usable inks so far.
We're are in space, too... yes... but that would mean EVERYTHING would be fair game in this calendar... the whole collection of inks could be named after different types of sausages (they're also in space) 🙂 I think we've got to stick to "Outer Space", ie, everything outside of earth's atmosphere.
@@thewetpen I do tend to agree with you on this. And I would also like a whole line of something named after different sausages but that's probably because I'm hungry. :D
Good Morning! I'd have to say this is my favorite from this set so far, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit underwhelmed so far with the calendar as a whole. But I'm sure that will change, I'm sure they will have a few that will knock my socks off.
I've always thought of Colorverse as making inks in pretty conservative colors, which I think is why this calendar appealed to me... not expecting as much glitter or as many bright pinks, etc. I will be interested to see how much they branch out, though.
I am definitely here for your daily inks videos; short and sweet and informative. You got me to purchase the Iroful paper. I have not used it yet but will.
Hey Kim! Iroful is basically the same paper as Cosmo Air Light (I've heard that they're exactly the same paper, from the same press, but can't confirm), and it renders color a lot like Tomoe River and Cosmo, so it's a good substitute for those more expensive papers for swatching. 🙂
Ooooh, that is a perfect neutral! The Moon has some rolling boulders, but I don't think they color match this ink, so earthly sailing stones it is :)) We are in space too🙃
🙂 The color is actually growing on me. I was put off by thinking of it as a brown, at first, but if I just think of it as another grey, then it's a pretty nice one!
Really enjoying these videos, the presentation and pacing is wonderful. On to the set itself: Am I the only one who is underwhelmed by this Colorverse set so far? I was tempted to grab it, but the price was a bit steep (and I got this year’s Inkvent at a great price, so I was already in). Now that I’ve seen these first 4, I’m glad I didn’t get it. The advent calendars for me were a way to try a huge variety of inks with wild properties, not to find the most basic brown or a solid red. They don’t all need wild shimmer, but there are no interesting properties like their other inks. Where is the insane sheen like Extreme Deep Field? Where is the super well behaved shimmer of Hyabusa? Where is the funky darker lemon/green of Brane? Maybe they’re later in the set? By comparison, the Inkvent so far has given us a shimmer, a standard, a “star bright”, and a scented… Are they my next favorite ink? Nope, but they’re a fun way to try different styles. Loving these videos, thanks for putting them out!
Yes, these ones have been pretty conservative so far. I'm expecting more of the same 🙂 While that does seem a bit boring, the other side of that coin is that I have 70 little plastic bottles of ink on my shelf that I have swatched and then never used again, and I suspect that these Colorverse ones are bottles that I might actually want to use again in the future. So, boring and practical? Then again, I don't have any shortage of practical inks, so maybe I really should be taking the opportunity to play around with inks that are different, even if I don't really like them in the end. I guess I'll see how I feel at the end of the calendar. I should say that, putting the colors aside for the moment, most of these inks have seemed a bit dry for my taste.
@ Excellent points. And agree the presentation of Colorverse’s 15ml bottles is more premium for sure. I have 7 Colorverse full bottles and really love their packaging and the theming behind the inks. Actually now through day 4, this set would almost be a perfect “starter pack” for a new fountain pen user (if the trend keeps up with practical and well-behaved inks). Around $7.50 usd/bottle is a “value” based on Colorvere’s pricing and 15ml will last most people 10 pen fills at least. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the set!
Thanks for the video! I can’t wait to discover a new ink every day. I wish I had ordered this calendar while it was still available. The great thing is that there are no shimmery or overly fantasy-like colors (so far anyway) - I love their simplicity!
My pleasure 🙂 It's definitely true that Colorverse has been giving us more practical colors... some people are complaining about it, others enjoy them... but I think it's a good way to be different from Diamine, at least.
Thank you, Matthew, for another great video. This reminds me of Montblanc Swan Illusion Plume - a pale grey brown but with nice shading. I really enjoy it, and perhaps would enjoy this one as well.
My pleasure 🙂 I don't own many Montblanc inks, but the few that I have tend to be dry... is that common with them? This ink is a bit dry... usually this Diplomat pen from the writing sample puts down a pretty heavy line.
@@thewetpen Many people say MB inks are dry. I find the "shoe" inks to be a bit drier, whereas the specialty inks seems to be a bit wetter. But it really depends - much the same as for Diamine inks and DeAtramentis - some are wet and some are bone dry. For me, because I live in very dry high desert (
@@dr.d723 Ah! I used to live in Colorado and traveled a lot in Utah, and I did use a fountain pen, but just with ink cartridges and I didn't give it much thought. Next time I go to visit relatives there, I'll have to pay attention.
I hope you're feeling better than I am at this point, hahaha. Thank you once again for day four of the Colorverse Calendar. What an interesting brown color, not something I would have looked at other wise, but I'm very glad I got to see it here. Now I'm going back to sleep. Hope you see the mountains soon!
You may be able to tell in these videos that I've come down with a bit of a cold, but luckily it's not too bad. Hope you're getting on top of whatever you have and feel better soon! This is a brown that doesn't really appeal to me, though I do like the name 🙂
@@thewetpen I did look up sailing stones in space and mostly found the Death Valley stones. So, like you, I have no idea what the connection is other that "well I guess the Earth IS in space..." haha. Feel better soon!
This color kind of reminds me of Giant Potato that was released earlier this year, also by Colorverse. I'd be intrigued to see them compared side by side.
Funny thing is, I almost never even look at Colorverse inks. I think it's because, back when I started collecting inks, they were only available in the 2 bottle sets (one big, one small) for $45, and that seemed like too much to me when there were so many other great inks out there for $20, and I never got back into the habit of looking at them. But to me, Giant Potato looks warmer and bit darker than this one. I see that Colorverse "A Sgr" is pretty similar, too.
Really love this one! I for one certainly enjoy the type of inks that Colorverse put into this set. I don't care for the super shimmery/sheeny inks in the Diamine calendar.
I always enjoy a bit of sheen, but I certainly don't need three different types of glitter! 🙂 Still, if I'm going to every play around with glittery inks, I suppose it's nice that I only have to devote 12ml worth of shelf space to it.
An interesting ink! As I commented in @MariaRosseau 's video - an interesting ink, but not for me. Or is it? I had a brown ink, name I can't recall, that was some sort of "spice brown" that I initially hated but warmed up to over time...to the point where it's in a pen that I use fairly regularly on my desk at the office... 1 hour ago
I hope we get at least one nice blue in a big bottle 🙂, although, to be honest... I don't feel the need to buy big bottles of these ones as much as I do with Diamine inks that I like. I suspect that the price tag on these calendars will have weeded out a lot of the newbies, so we might see a bit more variety in the voting than otherwise.
i came right now from india! i bought 2 pens: a parker frontier a ledos qibao fountain pen( i would love that you would review this fountain pen) it was a really great trip!
Ahh, how lucky you are to have been able to spend a little time in India 🙂 I'm surprised that you didn't buy Indian pens, though! Not really, I guess... even in India it's not always easy to find good ones. I'm not really familiar with either pen... I hope you enjoy them!
Not the exact same nib, no... but the same type. They've all been broad JoWo nibs, I believe. When I have time, I'll add in additional nib sizes, too, but I haven't gotten there yet 🙂
It definitely looks like a river or stream coloration, especially the way that it color strength varies. Very cool ink!

The sticker on the front seems to portray an asteroid or comet, perhaps one of those is the "sailing stone"?
So far my favorite is Supergiant from Day 1. It is a bit pale for me and I can't decide if this is brown or grey. Interesting shade.
Yes, it really looks like a warm grey when I write. For me, it's fine... but it's not at the top of my list for this calendar.

This one felt more like a sand color. I wonder if that is why they chose the name. I was rather confused by the name choice as well.
Bummer about Colorverse only releasing top three voted inks. We'll probably get three shades of saturated blues (not that I mind, lol) 😂😂😂
