Hell yeah good stuff! I was thinking of auditioning for spirit of atlanta as well! (haven’t decided on online or in person yet). What could you tell me about what the camp was like? How did you like the instructors?
Great video! Would also add don’t be afraid to march in an Open or All-Age class corps before marching your ‘dream corps’. It’s a great way to gain experience and will make you a stronger candidate at your next audition!
Hard agree! I marched with Rhythm in BLUE this past summer and improved at my instrument loads, not to mention actually getting a feel of what doing drum corps is actually like. Just the fact that you've marched somewhere and gotten experience and drum corps level feedback make you that much more likely to get the contract the next season at your dream corps (at least I think).
I’m auditioning for Spartans in a couple months. Very nervous since this is my first experience with drum corps but I’m also incredibly excited especially cause if by some miracle I do get a contact I know I’d be down to sign. Thank you for making this video
I’m the complete opposite of your story when you were 15, I’m about that age and I’m trying to convince my mom to just let me go to a camp even though she said it is 100% a no for actually marching DCI this summer lol
Bo Sodders is fantastic. He taught me at Southwind, and then asked me to move to Scouts when he moved. I wasn't able to afford the season last year, but I've heard nothing but great things about Scouts.
hey i went to blue way camp this season and you gave us all a speech with Cameron and you guys are seriously the main reasons i want to do this. im going again this year and am auditioning for the next, next season (not quite old enough) but thank you so much for the help and inspiration!
ive got a genesis auditioning coming up in a few weeks, im crazy nervous and i know i wont be able to make it this season [my four mallet playing just isnt strong enough, im a marimbist] im really hoping to get a good idea of what the process is like for next year and im hoping to get some good advice to bring back to my school, especially since i want to be pit captain! my "dream corps" is troopers, and if i wasnt so short on time i would've loved to audition for them as well- i got the audition packet but i just didnt have time to learn that much music combined with marching band competition season AND concert season starting
Ngl bro I'm alll the Way in South Africa 🇿🇦. I dont know how imma make it there, and I wanna know how everything goes😭 after November what goes on the whole year and all please make a video discussing how a whole season goes🩵
I’ve started learning baritone and planning on auditioning for Carolina crowns in February, do you think that I might have a chance to make it if I practice a lot?
Hi, Andy!! If you see this, I have some questions and comments. *QUESTIONS:* For starters, I’m almost fifteen and have dreamed of marching in the Bluecoats for the past three years. I have a muscle tone disorder called Hypotonia, and it’s everywhere in my body, but more prominent on my right side. I wondering if at the Bluecoats you drop. Doing push ups is one of my greatest weaknesses, and I’m really self conscious of that fact. Second, I want to ask how much audition camp costs. My family isn’t poor; we live in a nice house, and can afford marching band for me. Im just worried that ever since my parents split and my father got a new job that my family won’t be able to afford it. Third, I want to know if you need your own horn for Bloo. Again, my family might not be able to afford one for it. Next, how much do lessons with you cost? I’d love to hear advice from someone with as much experience as you! *COMMENTS:* Thank you so much for listening, and thank you even more for this video. I’m genuinely interested to audition for Bloo now. I haven’t told my parents yet, though… that’d be a good idea I think. T-T
@ChippyChickadeeOrFadeMacaw Hey! I'm glad you liked the video, and I'm happy to hear you're thinking of auditioning! To answer your questions: 1) Bluecoats takes a pretty strict stance against physical punishment for both practical and ethical reasons. You won't be forced to do push-ups during the season if you miss a dot or something. However, it's important to note that marching drum corps is a very, very, VERY physically demanding activity. This is something I plan to touch on in a future video. All members are required to pass a physical examination by a doctor before the marching season begins. If you haven't already, I would highly encourage you to speak with a doctor/medical professional as soon as you can about your condition and how it could affect/be affected by your experience at drum corps! 2) According to their website, Bluecoats audition camps cost around $160 to attend. Please note, the first round of auditions end this weekend with the Georgia and SoCal camps being the last first-round audition camps this Sunday, the 8th. That being said, I would encourage you to reach out via email to the Bluecoats, in the past they have occasionally allowed late auditions depending on circumstances. Check out Bluecoats.com for more info on the subject! 3) You are encouraged, but not required, to bring your own horn to audition camps and pre-season rehearsal camps. However, there are usually spare corps horns that you can use at those camps - again, I would encourage you to reach out to the Bluecoats to ask about your situation. If you march the summer season, you will have a corps horn provided for you that you will keep for the duration of the summer and return after finals. 4) I'm happy you're interested in taking lessons! I offer 30 minute, 1 hour, and 2 hour lessons, each at different prices. There is also a discount for your first lesson! Check out my Google Forms link in the description for more info or to sign up! Hope this was helpful! And yes, you should probably tell your parents
@ it was very helpful! Thank you so much! I don’t believe my family will be able to afford it currently, and I also don’t think I’m ready mentally. Maybe in a year or two, when my life isn’t as messy lol. (I also don’t think it’s a good idea rn because I have this really bad habit of halfway dislocating different joints on purpose when I’m nervous or stressed. It doesn’t hurt, but 🤷)
Never ask a man his salary, a woman her age, and Andy how many years he’s marched
I’ve been drooling for the past 20 minutes and 17 seconds

Thanks, I plan on doing drum corps once out of high school, so I will follow your advice on auditioning the year before I plan on actually marching.
