    I am really looking forward to playing this some day. I wanna run it with my high level wizard I've had for a while as a return and investigation of that character, with three alts of what her life could have been like. One where she stayed with the Red Wizards of Thay, one where she stayed with her mother and became a Druid in isolation, and one where she was left alone in the outlands of Thay and her spark of magic bloomed into the rage of a Wild Magic Barbarian

      I want to play it with an undead theme. Starting off as a Warlock pact of the undead, then Phantom Rogue, then wizard school of necromancy. With the last one being the true character and him messing with the undead through experimentation that caused the other glitches misfortunes

    Been prepping this game for the last couple weeks. I told my players that I want to run the game, officially, for them starting in December. Between work and school, I just wanted to have some breathing room to prep the game without getting too overcome.
    After reading through the module, I got really excited to run it! There’s so much potential for character creation and building unique twists and turns to keep the game feeling fresh. I especially like your note about not having the players build backgrounds. I am absolutely stealing that idea! I already know themes, ideas, and little narrative adventures some of my players want to see in their character incarnation builds/backgrounds. 3 of my players have already agreed to it and go excited to try it out! Provides a unique and fresh approach to character creation.

      Hey I love that! Sounds like you’ve got a fun year of adventuring to look forward to! Please come back and let me know how it goes for you all! Glad you’ve got a good group to run it with!

    It seems like this is a very "depends on the group" sort of module, which makes sense. Also, making the story put a focus strongly on the players in particular is a smart way to go when you have a setting that is SOOOOOO gigantic, to the point of being basically infinite that almost anything can happen. Taking this monstrously huge world but narrowing your focus to how this group fits into it (or doesn't) makes for a more compelling narrative than just going BIG BIG BIG, even though you could absolutely go huge to the point of making Crisis on Infinite Earths look like a street-level scrap.

      Well said. Ideally all adventures should have that strong player character focus, which is very hard to do, especially in a pre-written module. I try to explain it as trying to write a novel when you don't know who the main character is. But yeah, they did an admirable job of it!

    Great video! I am compelled to try it. Just an FYI it's pronounced Sigil with a hard G. Like, rhymes with giggle. But that side, I was quite impressed with your descriptions. Keep up the good vids!

      I believe its a soft G, like the word sigil

      @@josiahws5 No OP is right, it's a hard G. It's how it's pronounced in Planescape: Torment. It's weird, yeah, but it's a fantasy story, it doesn't need to stick to the rules of the English language. Heck, the English language doesn't stick to the rules of the English language.

    I disagree that the alts should have started from the same origin point. While that can be a legitimate way to run it, I feel it is a stronger story when the alts are from a multiverse where they have a slightly different origin, and the story then can explore how that change impacted their choices in life. That half-elf sorcerer who grew up on the streets might have had it rough, but in an alternate universe where they were a half-orc they had different opportunities, perhaps escaping the streets much earlier. Exploring these differences can lead to a much stronger story with more emotional consequences.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's a totally legit way to run it, but it ultimately explores different themes. I think the adventure writers intended the themes to be based around the idea of how our choices can impact our destinies. The books asks the players to consider, "What was the greatest decision or turning point in your character’s life? If your character made a different decision, how might their life be different? How would they be different if they made choices based on others’ expectations?" The story you'd be telling there is more about how the circumstances of our birth affect the trajectories of our lives, which is also, of course, a compelling seed to grow an adventure from. It's just a different sort of story.
