I always get so excited when a new video comes up. I can't even pick my favorite type of video. You teach so much! Honestly, hearing your voice talking and teaching is so so soothing, that I save the viewing for when I am working on a mindless task, or a moment when I am resting, so that I can focus on what you are saying. I have a hard time finding others like-minded near me (that aren't off the charts new age and fairly anti- Christian in their viewpoints), so it feels wonderful to be able to feel a sense of community on this platform. I recently went foraging for autumn olives and winged sumac, and figuring out how to preserve them, as well as jewelweed infusions (not quite perfected yet...they got crispy) so that I have a remedy for my daughter who gets poison ivy so badly. We did the tea turned icecubes (works great!), but I wanted to try and make something that would sit on her skin longer with less drippy cold mess. Anyhow...that's another long and broken up comment...sorry! Thanks Heidi, and Patrick, for all you do. You're a huge blessing to us out here and I am so grateful for what you do!
I always save my rose petals when they are at their peak and I learned that from one of your videos. I have found that the main thing I use them for is for A wet hair spray. All I do is take distilled water half a pint of do you hydrated rose petals and simmer in a small crockpot for a couple of hours but never let ball and when it cools off I put it in a spray bottle and use it to spray my hair on the days it’s not washed. Personally my hair has really loved the rosewater. It has made it so healthy. I also use it as a face wash before I go to bed. Thank you Heidi for all that you have told us and thank you for this video . I love learning when you learn 😍 Many blessings to you
Hi Heidi, Great info!! I never realized how beneficial rose petals were. I use rose hips but as to rose petals, I always just thought of them for potpourri!! LOL!! Now I know better!! Thanks for all the great info. Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️
In my last home, I used clothespins to hang and dry roses in a small room near the ceiling where it was warm. They would completely dry in a few days and look small and lovely. I was using them for crafts, but that would probably work fine for other dehydrated petal uses such as tea.
No kidding, everytime I go to look something up, you have a video! Love ya Heidi. You have reaffirmed so many things I learned when I was younger but yaven't used in years.✌️❤️😁
Rose petals powdered (or whole, then removed after a month or so) in honey is really good. I use it on my face and of course eat it, or use it to flavor tinctures to make elixirs.
Many years ago I knew an older Irish lady that made rose petal scones and served it with her afternoon tea. They where delicious and beautiful. I wish I would have asked her for the recipe.
gardenpatchmama maybe you can grow the same roses to get that flavor. I find memories if loved times are the hardest to duplicate. All you may do is try! Lots of success in this endeavor.
It is as simple as making a pot of tea, add a bunch of rose petals to water and allow to simmer for 20-30 minutes. I do have a rose petal tea video coming out tomorrow
It's why in very hot places like the Far East & Arabia they use a lot of Rose Water & Orange Flower Water in their cooking. When we were little we would put petals in a jam jar with water to make our own 'Perfume' but they'd always got after a few days.
I'm happy when hubby eats green salad, if I put flowers on he will not even pick out the green parts, it's like a warning to him:"do not touch and definitely DO NOT EAT!!" 😁😁
I am loving your channel!! I came over from Doug and Stacy after learning about your channel from Stacy. What type of rose would you select to plant for topical and internal applications or does it matter? A I saw from your reply to lisa1967 that wild roses would be the most beneficial but I don't have wild ones where I live.
See if you can find the Rosa Rogusa - I am honestly not sure what rose I have growing as it was many years ago it was gifted to me but I am going to be looking for the one I just mentioned as it is suppose to be both the most aromatic and medicinal. My guess is it also gets nicer hips on it where the ones on mine tend to stay smaller
My wild rose bush has had what looks like white dust on it for years. Can't seem to get rid of it, so I'm afraid to use the flowers. Suggestions? Thanks in advance if you can help.
@@reneerayl3526sounds like maybe white powdery mildew? Try Castile soap or JADAM sulfur if that doesn’t work. I always like to try the least invasive one first.
I am glad you asked as this was something I had meant to cover, your more wild roses are going to have greater benefits than the cultivated ones. Hybrids are fine but do not compare medicinally to the Rosa Rugosa
Do you pick the rose petals when they are newly opened, or can you wait until they are withered a bit? When they're still pretty I love to look at them, and would hate to tear them apart !
@@RainCountryHomestead as long as you only pick the pedals and not the bud they will still turn to rose hips. And if you only pick a few pedal from each rose the bees will polenate them. Otherwise they dont know where to land and wont
Do you know of any plants that can help with tiredness? I'm guessing different mints would be one. There are some days (today is one) where I just feel so emotionally drained from the moment I wake up. Prayer helps but of course God isn't going to fix my problems, they're there to help my grow and learn to deal with them on my own. Also, I found your channel Sunday night while looking up patchwork skirts so I can make one for the Latter-Day Saint pioneer trek I'm doing in October and you've been very helpful.
Ashwagandha is a real energy booster, I am trying to grow it but this is the second year and is so far not doing great for me, however I buy the organic root powder and use it in my "Jet Fueled Latte" blend I make and it really gives me a great boost with no need for coffee. Hi lovely lady, does it matter what variety of rose?(Example knock out, ebony, scarlet star) Does it matter what style of rose plant? (Examples Bush rose, climbing rose, Tea rose)
When it comes to adding to vinegar, I do not weigh or measure out herbs, I just fill the jar but I have many vinegar making videos you can check out, some just on herbs, some on fruit vinegars.
While many herbs can do just fine with just a tight lid, I do vacuum seal all my jars that are going back in storage. I do not bother doing that with the ones that I keep in my kitchen and am working through

Omg I’m so excited. Thank you 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Been thinking about freezing rosewater in to cute shapes and using them as ice cubes in my tea and other drinks
Many of the recipes I have from the 17-1800’s call for “rose water”. Now I’m wondering if it was used for multiple reasons besides for the flavor.
Wow I'd love to take a gander at those recipes!😍

I would say yes, however, some have more benefits than others. For example, hybrids are not as potent as wild roses
