Finally someone with a beard doing clean-up! Nice job. Thank you for showing a close-up view of the angle (side by side) at the end. Reviewers rarely do that. As someone who shaves under their nose (and has a beard), it's nice to see how much "taller" the head is on the BBS compared to the GC.
Great comparison and shave man, I think I'm going to pick up the AS plate. The BBS original is such a nice razor, just have to do a little more buffing than I like. Been on a soap buying freeze as well, have killed off a few soaps, so many left to go. Lol. Doing a very good job putting these videos together, great work. Cheers
Thanks for watching and for the comment! You'll really like the AS plate. It has that extra amount of gas that the BBS-Standard is missing. Find the right blade and it's shaving nirvana! Us shaving junkies will need to will our soaps back to the community.. someone should get on that!! Thanks for the feedback on the video. I appreciate it! I had fun with this one.
Hey Tim! Thanks for watching. You may find that little bit of extra efficiency with the AS or you if you want more of a jump get the Lupo 95. The Wunderbar Slant is another top dog razor but of a different design and is very efficient. Both the Lupo 95 and Wunderbar can offer very different experiences depending on the blade so be sure to experiment until you find the right one. I disliked my first shaves with both razors until I played around with the blades. Now I love them.
Great informative shave video. Personally I rarely use up any of my large collection soaps, similar size to yours, I've only emptied a few tubs/pucks in the last 12months or so. I tried a buy freeze until the next discounts came along ... just can't help myself ... Love Stirling soap quality, scent range and great value.
Thanks UncleL! Stirling is certainly one of the best value kings! I was really focused on not buying more but then started up again recently! I sold off a bunch of my razors and the person who bought a few of them became a friend of mine and we've been on a buying spree for a few months now. In addition, I've now kicked up this channel and buying even more! Looking forward to the next Aussie shave!
I am almost done with my favorite soap which is Stirling Executive Man, but am saving it until I receive refill for it. With that Arkadia, this is another soap I want to try out. Stirling soaps are so amazing that all the other one I tried where not even close in terms of performance and scent. I can't wait to try Razorock soaps, but I am scared they will be bad compared to Stirling. I know Stirling cost way more so should be better, but still I got the three main Razorock formula to try out. The Super formula, the super Tallow formula and the triple milled.
Arkadia is sooo good! I also have Executive Man and I love it! That one is near the end for the both the full size tub and the aftershave. I find the aftershave lacks staying power and is gone within an hour or two. My bottle is at least a few years old so perhaps they improved it. I may rebuy it one day but for now I have enough to probably give me at least 5 shaves or so. All soaps are just different. Stirling is super high value for what you get and so is Razorock. The cost ratio doesn't jive with the performance.. you get more value with Razorock than any other brand on a performance for dollar basis. Their stuff is excellent and their triple mill soaps are ridiculously good for the price. PAA CK6 formula and Moon Soaps are true head turners too. Bad soaps are truly bad and you can't do anything to save them unless you mix in another cream or something. Those just get tossed out. Luckily there have only been one or two of those in my 7 years of wet-shaving.
@@ojshaves1523 I made the mistake of purchasing Fine Platinum aftershave which was suppose to complement Executive Man better than the Stirling after shave. That was before I realized how bad I dislike the feeling of menthol on my skin. You seems to enjoy menthol, so it might be a winner for you, however, if you just want the scent for a longer period of time, getting Armaf Club de Nuit Intense man EDP would be the way to go if you don't mind it's harsh opening, the drydown is as close to Creed Aventus as you can get. A 200ml of it can be had for as little as $48 CAD at perfumeonline.ca which makes it about 1/15 of the price of the original. I usually don't buy clones, but I just refuse to pay over $400 for 100ml of fragrance, not matter how good it might be.
Yep. I love Fine Platinum! I recently picked up Snake Bite and love that too. I like aftershaves with staying power and I don't have any EDTs parfums etc as I find I don't need them these days plus it leaves the funds open for more aftershaves! The colognes I do have are the Proraso ones which are epic in their own right. I love menthol and can't wait to get PAA's "Evil Cube"
Great head to head. The shave looked really smooth on both sides and Stirling looked awesome. I like the post shave routine you used also. That camera is beautiful. Which camera is that?
Thanks Silky! Much appreciated. Thanks for watching! The camera I use for my SOTD pics is the 53MP Canon 5DSR with the 24-105L V2 lens on it. I love it! I also use a Canon 5D Mark II to make my videos with a prime 24mm 2.8 lens.
Great comparison my friend! 👌 I am really interested in these two razors, and maybe I will end up with the BBS AS. Just for the history, (because I am a vintage razor geek...), the head geometry of the BBS is based on the Merkur 45c, a bakelite razor which is sadly discontinued. If you like light razors try to find one with its case. It's great for traveling.😉 As for the aftershave, its scent is based on an Italian cologne: Santa Maria Novella Tabacco Toscano. You can't find a smoother green tobacco scent if you ask me. Just subbed by the way. I really like your aura; cool and refined. Keep up the good work and especially your style. 😎
Hi George my Instagram buddy! Thanks for visiting the channel! I was not aware of the Merkur 45c roots of the BBS; that's very interesting. I'll see if I can find one of those on the used market and do a head to head with the two of them one day. Stay tuned, more head-2-head videos are on the way.
Great video. I loved the intro. However, both razors seems way too aggressive for my skin as my current favorite razor head is very similar to the Old Type that is rated a 7 according to the RazoRock Razor Scale and the BBS AS and GC .84 are rated 26 and 21. I am wondering which of Razorock offering would be best for me and I am torn between the Mamba, the GC .68, the BBS and the BBS OC. I really like the open comb on my razor as I feel it leaves more lather to lubricate the blade as it passes, should I be concerned jumping from 7 to 12 on the scale as both heads are rated as mild-medium?
Thanks for the feedback Michael! I had fun with this video and was pondering what do with the intro if anything... but it turned out alright! So, I looked up the Razorock razor scale now that they've updated it with all the BBS offerings and I'll tell you honestly that this scale scares you or prospective buyers for no reason. I feel many of these are out of order and I have 14 of the ones listed. The BBS-AS is more efficient than it is aggressive which may be just what you need. You want to use very little added pressure and to let the razor do the work. You will remove more hair and get closer with one pass with the AS which may be exactly what your skin needs. The geometry of the BBS allows you to enjoy a razor with high efficiency with very moderate blade feel. It's surprisingly comfortable and from my perspective is LESS aggressive than the GC 0.68 OC which sits at 15 on their scale while the AS sits at 26! Many sensitive skin shavers swear by the Muhle R41 despite it being the most aggressive razor in existence. They can get the job done in one pass and by literally gliding the razor on their face thereby saving their skin from multiple passes. Your challenge may be multi-faceted but let me know what your shaving goals are (BBS, one pass, 2 pass etc) and then pick the appropriate tool. I think an highly efficient, medium aggressive razor may just be what you need.
@@ojshaves1523 I only shave twice a week and I always tend to do 3 passes as no matter how effective a razor is, it will need to go against the grain so it shaves the hair to get BBS and the way my facial hair grows, I need to do shave it in 3 different directions to get the best shave. My goal is getting the closest shave while having the least irritation as possible, therefore I don't see the term efficient as most shavers do. To me, the better the razor is at removing hair determine how effective it is and the effectiveness of the razor compared to the comfort would be the efficiency. With that said, my goal is getting the most comfortable razor that is effective enough to get a BBS in 3 passes.
@@michelyannakis535 Hi Michael. In that case I'd probably go with BBS A. The AS may be little more blade feel than you want and the OC may not be enough. I think you will find what you want in the BBS series though. The geometry of the head is very forgiving and all the plates are quite comfortable to use.
@@ojshaves1523 I just read more on Razorock's offering and am quite intrigued by the Lupo 0.72 which is in the same tier of aggressiveness as the BBS "A" and it's right in the middle between the BBS "A" and the BBS "AS". I think I'll wait for your test of the Lupo 0.72 before making the decision if I want to get the BBS "A" as I read it was superior to the GC .84, but is more smooth.
@@michelyannakis535 Certain factors need to come together to determine whether a razor will 'feel' aggressive to you regardless if it is supposed to be aggressive by design. The Lupo 72 will have more blade feel and may feel more aggressive whereas, the BBS-A or BBS-AS will both be smoother and have less blade feel due to the design of the head (This I already know). Where they will differ is in their overall efficiency and 'perceived' aggressiveness. If one razor clears the field with less effort (repetitive shaving of same area/buffing etc and even fewer passes) but with more perceived aggressiveness, it may be a worthwhile purchase for many. The head-to-head will seek to answer this question. The GC 0.68 closed vs the BBS-A will be Battle #3.

Thanks for the feedback! BBS Standard would have the least blade feel as would the BBS-OC (almost identical). Comfort-wise they are all very similar but more blade feel as you progress from Standard to A to AS. You also need to pay closer attention to pressure as the A and AS can bite if you get overconfident. As far as smoothness and efficiency, they all shine equally well and is what makes this lineup unique. I personally wouldn't use the A or AS as daily shavers on my head and would probably use the Standard if I was shaving daily. I prefer to shave every second day and can even go to the third if the previous shave was using the A, AS, Lupo, Wunderbar etc.. (these all cut closer to the skin than others).
@@ojshaves1523 I have the RR Stealth Slant V1 in aluminum, which is the first in a line of prototypes that eventually lead to the Wunderbar. But I'm guessing the Wunderbar is a completely different beast altogether
Wunderbar is in a class on its own. Initially I didn't like it but soon realized not all blades work well. Once I found the right pairing, it performed "wunderfully". Also it's important to make sure the razor is good and tight. Leaving it even just a touch loose will make you feel a lot more blade. Same is true for BBS-A and BBS-AS.
