Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I have been wanting to try some of these out on Lake Sam Rayburn. I saw some just like these in a cove on the North end and were wondering how they worked. I am definitely going to make some.

For those who don’t have the tools to easily cut rebar, I built some very similar a few years back and put some long bolts in them. Also did some pea gravel in one and it works great as well. Thanks for the video!
Pea gravel is a great idea!
You just need something thatll slide down. We use a nut in Tennessee.
Just finished making my first dozen floats as a gift for my big brother. I also took several pieces of about a 6 inch piece of foam, wrote the line length on it, then wrapped the line, weight, hook, and swivel onto the piece of foam. This way he can swap out line lengths as the water depth dictates.
Also, cut 5 (3 inch) pieces of different colored foam and glued them together using waterproof Gorilla Glue to make one piece of 15 inch foam. Gives the float a unique color combination.

Easy enough to cut rebar with a grinder and cutting blade.
What size eye hook do you use !
You dont even need a piece of rebar... you can use a bolt or nut that fits in it. You just need something that tilts down to keep it up.
Have you ever seen the “jugs by Bert” I wish someone would re-make them.
I had not heard of those but checked them out. Not sure how I would make them though.
I have had great success with noodles, 45 pounder is my best to date.

Yes you can but you don't get the fun of seeing it pop upright when they hit. But both work.
So how are you keeping these from floating away or from fish just running away with them? Forgive the novice question. Id like to set some in our local river but cant wrap my head around keeping the fish in place without a huge weight at the bottom. I have a canoe so donr wanna paddle all day looking for them.
Make a weight out of a Solo cup filled full of concrete with either a wire or an eye bolt sticking out

I’m pretty sure the guys using 5/8” rebar 4” long for weight are using 3/4” PVC pipe. Just sayin.
How deep of water do you fish ?
It depends. I have had catfish find them in all depths.

How much would you say the pieces of rebar weigh?
I don't really know. Try putting one together without glue and test the weight, once you get it right you can copy it. When the weight is at the top and you lay it in the water it should lay pretty flat, once the fish trips it, it should stand straight up. You don't want the weight too heavy as the fish will drag it under too easily. You want the noodle to tire out the fish when he tries to drag it under. Good luck!

@@SoatMon Finished my first project of making these. Made two for my big brother who lives near the Red River Louisiana. Shhhh! It's a secret.
According to google a 5/8 piece of rebar weighs 1.04 pounds per linear foot. So roughly 4 oz for 3 inches.
Do they have enough buoyancy to hold a big fish? Say a 20 pounder? Whats the longest you've seen one go under?
They will pull it under but it wears them out pretty quick and it floats up.
@@SoatMon I'm thinking of shooting some foam in the pvc to add a little extra buoyancy. See any issues with that?
@@sunsoutgunsout2046 adding foam would make it less buoyant. It’s already filled with air and that’s less dense than foam.
In Texas, orange is reserved for commercial fishing, us regular folks can use any other color. The problem I see with white is you wind up chasing seagulls and pelicans all over the lake.

Yes they do.
I heard some say the eye hook will come off one day. Have you had any come off yet?
No problems they work great. The fish can't get a lot of leverage to pull it out unless he drags it under a log or something. In that instance it would be good to come out as it might float to the top and not remain stuck.
