Just an idea, if you put some florescent tape on the one end you can see it at night, or spray paint the top with florescent paint, I do a lot of night fishing and you can pretty much see them for a few hundred yards and if they are bobbin you can tell. good luck.
Iowa definition: catfish jug is anything that floats that you can tie fishing tackle to
+Randy J you nailed it man!
is it illegal?
you are allowed to have 2 hooks in the water. yes it is legal up to a point
Randy J do you have to put your name address and phone number on em?
Yep, here in Iowa it's two jugs per license, up to two hooks per jug, and you must have your contact info on it. But Randy J is right on, a jug is whatever floats that you tie a catfish rig onto!
I put reflective tape i get from parts store they put on sides of truck trailors you can see them bobbing up and down 1/2 mile with spot light at night packs of tape are silver and red cut them with scissors do a lot of them with one pack.
Yes sir I agree, the Texas boy call them jug. I'll use about a three inch different colored nuddle at the top to tell which one is mine on the Trinity River.
How about tie the string directly to the bolt then go down and tie a .swivel which supports the weight then another string down to a hook
Carolina rig. Yep, you can do that.
great video
+Tyler Rathbun (TrahMan511) thank you Tyler!
where did you purchase your adhesive from? I've been looking for the same one.
Don't care what nobody says southern states got some smart people
Well shucks!! We southerners think there's a couple smart people in the northern states as well. Bless your heart @Just Mike. 😏
@@simpletruth9977 WHO DEMORATS LMAO
Common Sense 😂
Just snug a zip tie in the middle if the noodle is a bit loose
Why not just glue it to the pipe with the PVC cement
Thanks for the information on how to make the ultimate catfish noodle so far you have the best jug fishing that I've ever seen
you kinda look and sound like Woody Harrelsons lost brother..
Gavin Smith HD looks like Gerald McRaney from Major Dad TV show.
Fun fact...woody harrelson's dad was some kind of mob hitman who went to prison for killing a judge.
This guy's gonna have a TV Series call Noodle Dynasty..
LOL I'd watch.
Juggin' with Cottontop.
Great vid. Quality videos like this is what you tube need.
Love your garage!
Thank you for sharing
Went jugging today for the first time with our boy scout troop and I am HOOKED. Caught 20 channel and couple blues. Can't wait to make my own set
Really enjoyed your video look over some of your other videos and realized how close you are to me I'm in Pontotoc thanks for the info those Jug's look awesome
An education channel! I had no idea- never heard of this before. And unlike Logger W. you did it all with no cursing!
+Justanoldguy '46 you won't hear cussing here and that's fixing to pay off huge for me.
Yup it is. I watch this'n but not that'n.
This is Woody Harrelson's "Country Mac". That's meant to be a compliment. Love your videos, thanks for the tips.
only thing I might would do different is sinker on bottom hook up about 12 inches
nice ultimate noodle
Did you do them
I put yellow reflective tape on the top cap, so that I can see it at night. My experience with the rebar inside the noodle was that I was not catching as many cats because of the noise. When I took the rebar out, I started catching more cats. I also mark the length on each noodle, because I put a three hole brick on the bottom of the line. That allows me to fish the thermoclines indicated to me by the depth of the cats are on the fish finder. Add a couple of extra bonus feet to each line to prevent your float from sinking, if you miscalculate your depth.
I was thinking the same thing but red LOL
Wouldn't adding additional feet defeat the purpose of it being a float? Supposed to tire the fish out
Just finished making my first dozen floats as a gift for my big brother. I also took several pieces of about a 6 inch piece of foam, wrote the line length on it, then wrapped the line, weight, hook, and swivel onto the piece of foam. This way he can swap out line lengths as the water depth dictates.
Also, cut 5 (3 inch) pieces of different colored foam and glued them together using waterproof Gorilla Glue to make one piece of 15 inch foam. Gives the float a unique color combination.
Reply
For different line lengths use different color noodle that’s what I did
When i used to live in Miss we would always go to Oktibbeha Co, just off 82 highway Tim have you guys tryed that lake they got some good cats there but if you want some Giant cats try out Grenada lake Tim. Have fun fish Tim
I made some of your jug lines by following your directions. I tried them out today and I caught some channel cats. Thank you for the tip!!
Awesome video, have made 50 of them so far, any ideas on how to make the depth adjustable? Only thing I see that could use improvement, but thank you for sharing your knowledge, my 7 and 3 year old love it!
Got 15 made. 30 seconds into cutting the metal rods with a hacksaw and I knew I was in for a job. Love them though and it was worth it. Thanks!!
Great video!!
I made a handful of jugs following your design. Everything worked great, until I got them in the water.
I once set, I noticed the steel bar inside would no longer side up/down. I’m thinking I did not use the right sealant, or give it enough time to dry. I took one apart and could feel the sealant inside causing resistance.
Any suggestions on what type of sealant I should use on the next round?
I made 10 of these following capt cotontops instructions. My first time out using them caught 3 monster catfish in no time at all. My pool floats were a little too long though. Still catches fish, just don't turn vertical. Thanks cotontop!
this is a fact--an 18 pound catfish can hold it under for about 20 seconds the first time ,as he tires out it is less and less--- Badin lake this very week--really enjoy your videos!!!
+luke morgan thank you Luke!
75% of all blues caught on Kerr lake nc over 30 lbs are lost when they are horsed in on 20 ft of line. I cut a salt rod pole down to about 15 inches long and with a snap hook on it and snap in to jug. Play them for awhile then you can get them next to boat. Lose alot less fish that way.. 50 lbers not unusal.. GRIZ
I would run 18" noodle and 2' pvc and i caugt a 165 pd. Alligator gar he would take it down and run and back to the surface
Worst noodle set up I've ever seen! The weight dropping scares the fish, and it never floats upright correctly!
I've caught blues over 50+ lbs on these things. They can't keep them under.
Thanks for the explanation
Use the threaded screw eyes and you don't have buy silicone or washers. Drill pilot hole and screw em in
*Great video and jug design, I'll be making some of these myself, thanks for the upload*
Thanks for sharing that tip and I will remember it when I get ready to go fishing for some catfish.
Thank you for this info! got work to do on payday!!!!
God bless you and yours!
great job I have never heard of this type of fishing I live in north Dakota and have cat fish in the red river of the north I cant wait to try it I jut fish out of a boat mostly
marlin kojak. Marlin make sure that there is little to no current or you will be chasing them or loosing a lot of jugs
So this is what Woody Harrelson is doing with his time these days
Really good video brother St Louis in the house
Can,t wait to make some up and give those ultimate jugs a try . Thanks bro...
rjvjr01 I made em and they work great...here is the best bait for em besides live bait---> ruclips.net/video/TVB000cZN5w/видео.html
Waves bottom out the slide weight more than a fish will.
That's 3/4 in PVC
wow Tim what a great instruction video on how to make those catfish noodles and I have fished them as a kid but not that way.
+canvids1 thanks, I tried to cover it all from making them to the line, hook and swivel set up. I have been asked and asked to do this video.
I'm from ok . . I've heard them called doodles . .
Is there a way to adjust the length of the line?
What do you tie these off to to keep the fish from traveling with it?
Catfish won't run far. Sometimes they just lay in the bottom after getting hooked. You just hang out in your boat and drive up to them when you see one tripped upright in the water.
you can not jug fish in the state of Indiana in public waters. pay lakes and private property are ok.
You're full of shit. The Indiana law states there can be five if kept within eyesight.
How do you cut the metal rod for the weights? And thank you for taking the time to make the video!
+junebug I have a big metal cutoff saw that I use but a hacksaw or a grinder with a cutoff disk will do it too.
Thanks cotontop3!
Woody herrelson is that you?
What do you use to cut the threaded rod?
Hi Cotontop, I am going to definitely make some of these noodles!! One question: What size egg weight sinker do you use? It looks to be around 1 ounce, maybe 3/4 ounce?? Thanks for this great DIY how-to video!!
I got so excited that I went out, got the stuff and made me a mess of noodles. Then I finally remembered, I DON'T EVEN HAVE A BOAT!!!! But I have a whole bucked of Noodles.... Then I started making WINE. I now have some mighty fine WINE...to drink until I get a boat.
Nice tool box
I have one
Lot to learn from you. Thanks for sharing Tim.
Kentucky law for anyone wondering.
SPORT FISHING TROTLINES, JUGGING and SET LINES (LIMB LINES)
(301 KAR 1:410; KRS 150.010)
A sport fishing trotline is a line with no more than 50 single or multi-barbed baited hooks that must be at least 18 inches apart. A sport fishing trotline must be set at least three feet below the water’s surface. Jugging is fishing with a single baited line attached to any floating object. A jug line may have no more than one single or multi-barbed hook. A set line is a line with one single or multi-barbed hook. It may be attached to a tree limb, tree trunk, bank pole or other stationary object on the bank of a stream or impoundment.
One person may use no more than two sport fishing trotlines or 50 jug lines or 25 set lines at any one time. Each boat may not use more than 50 jug lines, but each occupant may use two sportfishing trotlines or 25 set lines. Each sport fishing trotline, jug line or set line must be: 1) permanently labeled with the name and address of the user; 2) baited, checked and all fish removed at least once every 24 hours; 3) removed from water, bank or tree when fishing ceases.
Prohibited Areas: Sport fishing trotlines, jug lines or set lines may not be used within 200 yards below any dam. Sport fishing trotlines, jug lines or set lines are not allowed in Department owned/managed lakes having less than 500 surface acres, except those located on Ballard and Boatwright WMAs. No sport fishing trotlines are allowed within 700 yards below Kentucky Dam, the area between Barkley Dam and U.S. 62 bridge, or below the following Ohio River dams from the face of the dam to the end of the outer lock wall: Smithland, Newburgh, Cannelton, Markland, Meldahl and Greenup; McAlpine downstream to the K&I railroad bridge; J.T. Meyers (Uniontown) to the end of the outer lock wall and that portion of the split channel around the southern part of Wabash Island from the fixed weir dam to the first dike.
We call what you do jugging in North Eastern Arkansas, we call catching by hand hogging. Great content regardless
The smart thing to do once you put the nut on the inside of the cap over the washer? Once you have that nut all the way down and tightened you should strip the threads on the eye bolt with a pair of needle nose or something so it doesn't come back loose because if that nut ever comes off you're going to lose your fish. I guess that excess silicone will help glue it into place also.
Howdy from Texas. I just watched your video last night and now I have 10 built awaiting the line, sinkers, hooks and swivels. I completed one and tried it out at the lake. It worked exactly as you said. I didn't catch any fish (probably due to the weather) but I don't see any reason why it won't. Looking forward to hauling a bunch in when the fishing gets better. What bait do you usally have the best luck with? I used some shad fishing them about 6 feet deep in about 9 feet of water. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and sharing it. It is videos like this that make life much easier.
Viewers and folks new to jugs be advised that some states do not allow these to be colored orange or red because that color is designated for indicating a hazard. Check your local laws. I've heard some places only allow them to be white.
Good video... It's all about people sharing what they know about... Thanks
You talk about the noise that the half inch rod makes when it slide down tube, when I made my noodle up, I took a 12 inch noodle and cut it in half. Then I took a piece of 1/2 inch pvc 12 inches long and beveled the end so it will cut thru the noodle when you push it down through the noodle to give you a 1/2 inch plug, which you stick in the end of your pvc, then you can glue your end cap on , that has the eyelet to it. Slide in your rod, put on the other cap. Slide it back and forth, no noice when it slides to eyelet end.
I basically do mine the same but no i bolt. I just my 150 lbs trot line string directly to the pvc ties easily with no slipping off problems. I also use 1" pipe but only 18" long pvc.
This is the best jug. Thanks! I was trying to find the one with rebar inside
3" PVC pipe with out the noodle is better and will last for years mine are about 25 years old
Would there be any disadvantages to using an eye bolt with wood screw threads? Seems like that would simplify construction and save silicon
I got to try and build us some, we are still the old coffee can jugs. Daddy has had the using for years. He would weld two coffee cans together and a nail or staple to tie your line to. Painted them black . And we use thin bank line. Yours look better and a lot easier. Thank you!
In Ohio limit is 6 noodles, single hook, no treble hooks , name address, loose not anchored anywhere, must be checked every 24 hours!
God bless
Lots people use these float around noodles but I have a upgraded design been using bout 10years my noodles are stationary when fishing from shallow depths up to 30 + ft usually don’t have to fish much deeper than 35ft an have 5 hooks per noodle a depth setter an wave adjust to fish rough water
Hey bossman what is the measurement of your noodles across at the top? Trying too find some just like yours so I can fit in a five gallon bucket lol?
How much would it cost to build like 50 of them and send them my way 😂
Thanks for sharing. You are a great guy to fish with!
The guy bullshits too long in order to get the commercials in. Money grubbing video.
You have the best method of making noodles than all other making noodles. Your method is the best.
That’s a great point about noodling vs. jugging and I agree.
Never seen anything like this before. Really enjoyed it !
This was in my feed today. I learned a lot. Whats your tat of. I cant see it for glare and glistening sweet.
Thanks
I made these based on the videos about two years ago and they are still going
in Texas we can't run orange, which sucks cause this time of year "summer" i can't find them anywhere. "It's out of season lol" but the only ones i found were orange so now im painting them white with rubberized white spray... extra money oh well. Great video!
Academy Sports and Cabela’s had a bunch of different colors in stock as of last week.
@@woodrowcall3731 ya I was looking before summer, heb has loads
dam Tim I wanna go catfishin! great vid bud! someday I will go catfishin! with anny luck!!
"This is a jug, not a noodle"... Proceeds to call it a noodle.
I've been using these kinds of "jugs" here in Texas for around ten years now and they're an extremely fun and productive method of filling up the freezer with catfish! I have a few suggestions and notes if you don't mind: I found that the free floating jug line is a pain in the butt. I use 3" PVC filled with concrete as a cheap weight to keep my jugs from blowing all over the lake. Also, I use 250 lb. tarred nylon as my main line, about 20' long. I tie loops in this line and make removable stagings for my hooks. I make these out of a smaller, different color tarred line with swivels and trot line clips. The different color makes it easier to tell the difference between the staging and the main line when you get tangles. The swivel helps to prevent tangles (catfish like to spin) and the trot line clip makes the stagings removable. Using removable stagings allows you to pre-bait hooks and significantly speeds up deployment and re-baiting of your jugs. Also, when you have a fish on a jug you can remove the staging with the fish and go straight to the box, replace the staging with a freshly baited one and go on down the line. Some states require that your jugs be white. I've found that wrapping the noodle with white duct tape is the easiest fix for this as I have yet to find white pool noodles. Lastly, I've found that 7/O hooks are the perfect size. I've caught some tiny channel cats on a 7/O circle, and they will more easily handle the 50 lb. class blues and oppalusas. I used to use 5/O and I had too many broken and twisted hooks. Thanks for your video! You are spot on about the circle hooks and I like the way you use the rod stock to turn the jug into a "flagging" jug! I think I'm going to modify mine. Fish on!
Awesome video! What size are those lead sinkers?
how do you adjust your depth length of the Bait
Where I fish, I don’t adjust it because most everything is pretty close to the same depth.
Which weight did you use? Like 1/2 oz egg?
That is correct.
Made some like these this past weekend lost two of them on the Ohio river due to fish pulling them under and not coming back up.
I have watched a lot of jugline videos, and this is by far the best. As mentioned by someone else, I appreciated the family friendly language. Headed to the dollar store now to look for noodles. Will follow this video exactly...except for the addition of some fluorescent tape or paint. Thanks for sharing.
mann all tbis time ive been cutting my noodles with a knife.
Stead of glue you think a zip tie would hold noodle on the pipe?
this some real fancy juggin noddles right there!!
Thanks man. I have them all done except for putting the line on, gonna finish them tomorrow, cant wait to go try them out
Thank you for sharing! Please correct me if im wrong. 1/2 PVC is the inside dimension. 5/8ths Rod is 1/8 bigger in diameter ?? 5/8ths rod will not fit inside 1/2" PVC. Im wrong 1/2 PVC inside dimension is really 0.622 of 1"
If u use the thin pvc and not schedule 40, it will fit.
Us country boys will survive 😉
Great video
Gonna make some today !!!!
love all ur vids . thank u for taking the time to make and posting them . i see (later tatter) bummper stickers in the future ..
Cool stuff Tim nice and easy got to love that thanks for the video Napa Mike
From Arkansas, thank you for an awesome video.
what size weights are you using?
in Kentucky you can have 50 in the boat
We use old jugs lol. Not pool noodles lol
How much would you say the piece of metal you place inside weighs?
Not exactly sure. It’s just enough to help stand the pipe up. If it’s too heavy it can bust the end out of the pvc cap
@@cotontop3 Do you think 2 and 3/8 oz. will be too much?
