    One of my favorite Gwenpool moments was when she pulled her "disappearing through the panels" trick on Dr. Doom and he just followed her, going "yes, yes, I know how to use transdimensional portals too"

    Gwenpool, a character who's had such a presence in comics for about a decade, hasn't made a big splash in major media thing yet. Knowing her, she'll acknowledge it when it finally happens, and probably be happy when it's not in a Deadpool thing... unless it is, and she'll be upset lol

    • @timogul
      @timogul 17 дней назад +4

      She was in a few games before this one. I tend to think she is a poor fit for other media though, since her powers are _about_ comicbooks. It's harder to translate to other things, since they are not comic books.

    I don't think it's necessarily true that Gwen was always from the marvel universe. To me it seems like it was meant to be left ambiguous whether Ms. Marvel was right about that or Gwen just used her retcon abilities to make herself into a mutant.

    • @timogul

      It was the latter. She retconned her own origin story. It's a grandfather paradox.

    I love her so much, she could have just been a gimmick but especially with The Unbelievable Gwenpool they really made her a full character.
    I honestly interpreted the ending as her trying to make Ms Marvel feel better and therefore Gwenpool lied and said, "Yeah, sure, I'm a mutant." Then her reality shaping power literally re-wrote reality to match what she said. Sort of like how House of M did but obviously on a smaller scale. So she is actually from another world, etc, but became a mutant when she said it.

    I really enjoyed her Unbelievable run. Gurihiru's art style might be a little manga-esque for some, but I think it fits Gwenpool perfectly; she looks adorable in it. Batroc was a lot of fun in that series too. Other than that, I've just read her Howard the Duck debut, that Christmas one-shot she had with Kamala, and some of the West Coast Avengers stuff. I know everyone hates Quentin Quire, but I thought the thing they had going in WCA was kinda cute. Interesting to hear that they pinned her down as aro/ace later; I feel like that doesn't really line up with some of her appearances, though from what I recall it would make plenty of sense with how she's depicted in Unbelievable (probably the best version of the character anyway). I think I'll give Strikes Back a shot.

    I dont think her being a mutant is supposed to be a reveal about her origins. I always saw it as Gwen being so strong with her powers she just retconed that into reality.
    Also, I dont think her custome being similar to deadpool is just a coincidense. I think its because the tailor missheard her real name, and thought that was the superhero name she was going for, so she made the costume accordingly.

    Gwenpool is a really amazing character, though she seems to fall into this trap a lot of comedic characters fall into where if a writer doesn't know the nuance or purpose of them, they'll just use the loudest parts of their personality. It's really disappointing how easily this happens with comic book characters.

    Wait so who would technically own the rights to her? Marvel or Sony? Because she’s not related to Gwen Stacy, but she technically was first conceptual based on her. Then also Spiderwoman is owned by Sony, even though she was never connected to Spiderman.

    • @timogul
      @timogul 17 дней назад

      Sony does not own "things conceptually related to Spider-Man." They only own the things that they specifically signed an agreement to in the 90s. I don't think they officially owned Silk or Ezekiel either, but a later deal with Marvel got them some additional rights.

  • @timogul
    @timogul 17 дней назад +1

    The mutant retcon is BS. Ignore it. Unbelievable Gwenpool's back half (the book, not the character) is MUST READ comics. It is a love letter to comics and comic readers that everyone owes it to themselves to read. Everything she's done since then has just been shamelessly chasing fads, and it's sad. For future writers, she only really works if you are a clever person who can use her powers in interesting ways. This is why she's tricky to use in a team book, because you basically have to write the books around how her powers work for her to make sense.

  • @q00u

    The original Chris Hastings run was _so good!_ But none of the subsequent runs by other authors has come anywhere close to that first Gwenpool. The run where they retcon her into being a mutant was especially bad writing. It was wacky scene followed by unrelated wacky scene, the whole time, and nothing mattered. Just the absolute worst. Ruined the character, actually. Forever.

    • @timogul
      @timogul 17 дней назад

      @@Christian-lb2vi Not that it matters after they bought Fox, but even in an alternate world where that never happened, she would be with Disney. After the mutant retcon (which probably wouldn't even have happened in this alternate world), they could still use her in MCU stuff without Fox's permission, they just couldn't say the word "mutant" in an MCU project. The Fox deal never meant that anything related to the X-Men became their property, it was strcutured around them owning "X-Men concepts" like the term "mutant," and a specific list of characters and other things that they wrote in the 90s. To get Negasonic Teenage Warhead into Deadpool they had to sign a new deal with Marvel in which they shared and traded access to a few characters, since that mutant character was introduced in comics after the deal was signed.

    Hey Nando off Topic but can you make a video about How Marvel ruined Iceman? Ill tell you how/why but bucke up cuz its a long one. so one of the things that made Iceman well Iceman was that he was a ladies man and im not homophobic when i say this but Marvel turning Iceman gay really did ruin his character. he's the comic relief and the The Human Torch of the team. Quick tempered, a straight horny ladies man that'll do anything to save his friends without thinking about himself. Iceman had no hints of being gay prior to 2015, most people like to bring up the fact that in 1963 in the very first issue of the X-Men when Professor-X is telling them that a girl/Jean grey is joining the school/team he said ''a girl big deal'' and use that as ''proof that iceman was always gay'' when that quickly gets disproves when a fan asked stan lee if Iceman was always gay he responded with ''well i certainly didnt write him gay in 1963'' which doesnt mean that Iceman was gay it just means that he wasnt interested in her and the only people who defend the decision that Marvel or more specifically Brian Michael Bendis made are you guessed it apart of the lgbtq group. Another thing that people bring up is that he dated Cloud (if you dont know she can turn into a guy and a female) when that was the whole reason he broke up with her bc he wasnt comfortable dating her. Also in all the adaptations that Iceman has appeared in even though he doesnt have a big/massive role in any of them they all portray him the same him being a straight horny ladies man. also dont give me that bs excuse that '' some people come out later in life'' which yeah is true but Imagine if Marvel decided to make Spider-Man or Cyclops come out as gay...............................see what i mean? like if you want gay characters just make new ones dont turn characters who for years especially one that has been straight for 50 YEARS and that one of his core traits is that he's a ladies man gay, and if you wanted more lgbtq representation then why not use Kitty Pryde who is Bi or Psylocke who is also Bi or FRICKIN Northstar who is literally gay and married, if you want even MORE proof that proves Iceman was straight then read Uncanny X-Force 2010-2012 #24 where the comic LITERALLY opens up with Iceman sleeping with a dozen Prostitutes while in Madripoor. my only hope is that he is included on the Mcu X-Men roster but if they're gonna make him gay then i dont want him on the team. (or make him Bi even then i would much rather that they kept him straight)
