Restoration of a 1860 ( Napoleon III era ) Lefaucheux revolver. We have found this gun while magnet fishing in South of France.
Judging by its condition, it has been in the water for decades.
The gun was damaged but we decided to preserve it by removing the rust, making it functionnal and protecting the metal for a display.
Judging by its condition we decided not to contact the police.
This video is only a restoration of an historical object and in no way about the apology of weapons.
Here is the video of its discovery : • On trouve deux pistole...

No talking, No music, just the work and it’s sounds. Perfect video!!
The durability of its manufacture is amazing🤯
Yeah it is !
Amazing restoration! Thank you for sharing your work.
Whenever I see such old things, I feel like if they could tell their life story, that would've been so fascinating.

You know, most of the restoration channels I watch usually restore the items to pretty much brand new.
I can appreciate that you choose to not "sand off the edges". The wear and tear is there. The history is still clear after a face lift. Gold star🌟
Thank you very much that's exacly the way we see the restorations of these relics 😀
It is surely fake. Anyone that saw a piece of metal rust like that know it is impossible to restore it that way. It is a backward fake restoration. Lets be honest. Where would he get all those guns in the exact same estate. Please.
Beau travail en effet
@@mateusalgarve you sound like someone who think martial arts are fake because you have never been able to fight. Just because you can't, doesn't mean someone else can't too.
@@mateusalgarve There's pitting in the metal. That gun has been rusted for a looong time.
The fact that it was able to be cocked and released after all that time with no replacement parts is bloody impressive on the makers part.
I agree, i was extremly surprized
Do you think it would fire
I'm not sure whats more impressive, this man's restoration ability in bringing old treasures, relics, and pieces of history back life, or that he seemingly has a tool for everything.
Brilliant I say. Commendable restoration work. What I liked the most is you didn't replace any old piece with the new ones. That's how a historic piece should be restored and preserved. Kudos
Thanks a lot !
@ hey I feel really stupid asking this but can't we fire it ? Like you didn't test it with bullets yk that's why i was wondering
How in the fuck... Bro did you travel in time, or sumthin'?

Я не мастер, но местами, по-моему, имело место варварство типа откручивания винтов странными плоскогубцами или отвёрткой меньше длины шлица.
А так отличная игрушка для ребятёнка получилась!
It's incredible to think about all of the adventures and memories that this gun may have been a part of, and now it can be appreciated once again thanks to the restoration work.
This video is a great example of how restoration can bring new life to old objects and preserve their stories for future generations to enjoy.
Thank you
Yeah thank you my friend !
you mean all the people its killed????
The engineering that went into these old time weapons always astounds me.
And no computers to design them.

I absolutely love videos like this no talking or music work and soothing sounds! So enjoyable thank you!❤
Thank you, see you soon then
brilliant work! its nice that you restored it without adding or replacing parts, that way its actually a true relic of the past. thank you:)
Exactly ! Thank you sir
True relics of the past are always best restored with strong abrasives like electric wire brushes that can wear metal.
Causing further loss of detail.
@@reoman98 you don't understand how tough the rusting is...you can't be gentle with it
@@reoman98 I don't think you understand the state of the gun. Something made of metal that has rusted that bad means that the delicate detail it may have had has been already lost. The removal of rust just shows the surface which hasn't been eaten up by rust.

I’m so so glad you kept the hand grips and only lightly restored them. Too many people ruin Restos like this by replacing them when it isn’t needed. When I saw the condition they were in I was really hoping you’d keep them.

The fact that this weapon was restored to working condition is amazing.
Speaks of the worksmanship of both this guy and the guy who made the revolver.

Has it been confirmed that this is now functional as a firearm?
I can't imagine it's the same caliber it used to be, given how much internal material was removed from the cylinder chambers and the barrel.
I mean, mechanically it functions, but did the tolerances survive to actually be able to fire safely and accurately (at least, within a reasonable degree of how accurate it was when manufactured)?
Because to me, a tool (especially a firearm) isn't "functional" if it can't be used for it's original purpose.
@@TheKhopeshI have a feeling this thing will explode in your hand if you shoot it
@@SpeedKing..
The mechanical action seems fine, and some mild inconsistencies in the cylinder chambers shouldn't cause too much issue.
The biggest problems are the barrel inconsistencies, now-wider barrel diameter, destroyed rifling, and wider gap between the cylinder and barrel.
It would probably shoot, but not accurately, and the risk of a squib would be my main concern.
beautiful resto, I appriciate the fact you don't replace anything, its a lovely piece of history
Thank you sir !

And almost certainly that preciousness doesn't work anymore. But it was worth it just for your recovery, congratulations on the excellent work. And that!
The guy who made that gun died long ago but his creation still remains.
I appreciate that you reused every one of it's parts and didn't change anything out for new ones, even the wood handle 😁 That is a true restoration.
That goes to show how much better things used to be made. Over 200 years later, that old gun still works. I love it 😁

@@natelav534 South of France, not in a battlefield
During the 19th Century things were made in factories & by machines.
@@Btfvt do you know how expensive setting up mass production was back then? The tooling and the machines themselves? The man hours and the experience and expertise the machinists needed to have? There was absolutely nothing easy about machining anything that small in the 1800s.
