A lady I see in the park when exercising my dogs, told me one of her dogs had pancreatitis a month ago, she's ok now but the cost of treatment, hospitalisation etc came to over £7,000 !! how can vets justify charging this, it's all about greed and preying on ppls emotions what about those who can't afford it (it's always the dogs who suffer in the end) and dogs are their only comfort/company.. DISGUSTING how they rip ppl off...needless to say I upped the insurance for my 2 dogs which I can ill afford but have no choice... EDIT:: I saw this same lady recently and she told me the price was £15,000 not £7,000 WOW EDIT : Saw this same lady few weeks ago informed me her dog had died..she's heartbroken...
I agree 100%! My dog got sick this month. At 8 am I went over to pet him and I saw that couldn't stand up on his hind legs ,he had defecated on himself and was lethargic. I cleaned him up and rushed him the biggest animal hospital in NYC. After several hours, blood tests, X-rays, etc. I was told that they were able to get him to stand and walk a little. However, they "believed" this was a neurological problem. He would need to be seen by their neurology department. Which would probably require several days stay while they care for him. $6-$8000 dollars was the possible amount for this to happen. I'm a senior on a fixed income. I asked about the funding they receive from donors. They said they wouldn't be able to get him any funding considering his condition ( and prob age too. He's a 17 year old Yorkie). They gave me some pain meds, anti nausea med. and anti-diarrhea med. $1500.00. I took him home. He was only able to stand and walk a few steps before laying back down. He drank water but would not eat. How do you give a dog medicine that requires the dog have it WITH FOOD when a dog won't eat. I had to put small pieces of the home cooked food I make for him, and my other rescued dog. Then break down the pills, put them in water, then into a syringe and give them individually to him. At 3 am I noticed he had defecated on himself, was lethargic and could not stand at all! I cleaned him and then rushed him back to the Animal Medical Center. After a few hours, discharged with the same advice. Continue meds. $500. I prayed and asked friends to pray for my Gizmo. The next day, I bought a sleeve that you place under the dog, it has two carry straps. This is to "support and assist" the dog in walking. Within 3 hours he was walking much more on his own. I made homemade chicken broth which had soft pieces of chicken in it. I gave him some. I woke up at 4 am to check on him. He was not in bed. He had gone to the bathroom, urinated and defecated then went over to his feeding area and fell asleep. I warmed up a little broth, woke him and gave it to him. He drank it all. I then put in him to bed. That day he was walking around the apartment A LOT. BUT, the next day I noticed he was trembling. This time I took him to a small ER for animals clinic. Long story short. Within 2 hours he's was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. He was prescribed two of the meds I was giving him but in LIQUID FORM. He was also prescribed an antibiotic in case he had a UTI, in liquid form. $800! However, upon my investigation more on Pancreatitis, when we got home, It is imperative that you not feed your dog anything for 12-24 hours. The pancreas is inflamed and NEEDS TO REST. So, I only gave Gizmo water and a some chicken broth so he could tolerate the meds. for 12 hours( since he had not eaten anything during the night). Afterwards, he started to eat and drink well Gizmo was coming along well. But this morning it was a repeat performance. Lethargic, no appetite but thank God he is walking and makes it to the bathroom. Will only give him broth today with Omeprazole and anti-diarrhea med. Not going back to the vets. I don't care what they say, It is truly ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!
@@melindahernandez8778 I hope gizmo gets well and recovers 🤞it really is heartbreaking and a worry to see any animal in pain and suffering but with your 100% care he is a lucky dog...Just to say I've been told by numerous vets if a dog is ill don't feed for 24 hrs especially if they have diarrhoea to allow stomach to settle then only feed small amounts of plain white rice and boiled chicken, gradually creasing over next 3/4 days, I've tried this numerous times and it works....have you tried taking him to a small vets or even a re-homing centre for help...
My Cat Ms Lily is 20 years old. She was diagnosed with Diabetes nearly three years ago. Last week she was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. Your video has been very helpful. Her Vet for many years now has been fantastic. For others costs in Australia to manage the diabetes is around $400-$500.00 per month. Pain medication was prescribed by her vet this is so important. How long had my beautiful girl been in pain. Now that she has been in pain meds for a few days I am seeing the signs more clearly. Other tests and costs leading up to the diagnosis of Pancreatitis was $600.00. Lily still runs around like a kitten, jumps up to all her cat trees and up to high furniture with no obvious discomfort. She loves her food so that is not an issue. Insulin is given twice daily after food. I thought this information would help others. She also had high white cell count and high liver, and pancreatic enzymes. As well as early stage kidney disease. Based on Lily’s vet and my own research Lily is ok right now. She may need IV fluids if she does not eat or drink enough. She currently does both well. Fatty Liver disease is very serious. Her quality of life is important to me. For now that is excellent. We take one day at a time. 🐾🐈🏡💗🇦🇺
Terrible. All of this information has been discussed many timed in other bad videos. I want to know specifically recipes, treats, and daily care. No one does this. I have a chronic jack Russell on gabapentin and pain killers for almost 2 years. Hes tired of prescription diet canned foods. What can i feed him that he will enjoy again.
My cats levels are very high but his only symptom is throwing up his food. Sometimes poops right after he throws up. I changed his food and spaced it out and he's a lot better before could be 3x per week. He hardly throws up now maybe once a week or none at all. But he always wants to continue to eat after throwing up. Sometimes he looks like he doesn't feel well but usually he still wants to eat more and seems fine. I also suspect IBD. I wonder if an Ultrasound is necessary like can it tell me anything that I can do to help my cat without being something very invasive and dangerous in itself? Ultrasound without biopsy is $800. I will 100% do it if it can give me info that will make things better for him but it kind of sounds like from Vet like it may not give any real information?
Urgent: my cat unfortunately may have pancreatitis and the doctor wants to do a test for that only she wants the cat to fast between 16 hours or 12 to 16 hours but she’s shooting for 16 hours. I think this is too long because the cat is only 5.4 pounds and has lost weight significantly.
I hope your baby is ok! My boy just got diagnosed with pancreatitis. Over 6 days or so He stopped meowing and then slowly went to eating less and very lethargic. He just saw a vet yesterday and is now on antibiotics and pain meds....plain cooked chicken diet with homemade chicken broth, but that's just for a couple days then idk what food to put him on.
@tammyreyers1119 I'm so sorry to hear that. I don't know why I had never heard that before ever, and it's a difficult way to learn that lesson. I'm so sorry. 😥

Pet insurance- the “experts” say that’s good to have. I should look into it.

Plain White rice and chicken (no treats) is good for dogs who don't feel well could get him eating properly again...

The vet said today that cats should not go longer than 24 hours without eating or their liver suffers
