    Dr. Jones, you are absolutely right about the use of melatonin for dogs. I have a sixteen-year-old dog with some dementia and about three months ago he was keeping me up all night howling and it was me who wasn't getting rest. He was put on melatonin and now he and I both get to sleep and to me it's a wonder drug.

    this works for hair loss and everything you say. My daughters mini 5 lb. pom lost almost all her hair and it came almost completely back. also works for my highly immune suppressed rescued at 8weeks now 5 yrs old..papillon mix. I feed balanced home made salmon/vitamins meals I make (she eats better than we do) ;)). It all help her but have to keep on top of her weakness. I don't think she will ever be completely healed of her immunity weakness. Im now doing your flea and tic remedy for her (Daisy), she looks like a 12 lb papillon, white and apricot...so cute...love her to pieces. She's worth every bit of my energy and time and I just hope I can outlive her. I really worry about that because I'm 77. I don't think anyone would ever commit to all the care and love it takes to keep her cared for.

    In October of last year, my schnauzer received a diagnosis of SARDS, resulting in his blindness. He's 12 year old. We also had him screened for Cushing's disease due to fur loss around the croup area. Thankfully, the test came back negative. Due to his blindness, he experiences sticky discharge around his eyes. I stumbled upon this video a few days ago, prompting me to start him on a daily dose (once a day?) of melatonin. He's 8.2 kg. Hopefully, this treatment will work on him. Thank you so much for sharing this.

    My dog Hermie would find it hard sleeping through pain (diabetes & spinal problem). My vet started him on 6mg (40 pounds) of Melatonin which helped him. I bought a brand that has L Theanine added. This vid was so helpful because I will start Lily on it now too. She has a reflux problem (when she drinks) secondary to a huge tummy lipoma. The lipoma makes it hard for her to sleep. Between her age (15yo), her breed (minibulldog), and she's anemic, she's not a candidate for surgery. Thank you for this helpful video!

    Notice many comments about fireworks. Friends have a dog who's terrified of the noise. So (since we happened to have been motorhome camping right near the staging area) I recommended they leave their dog in their moho with their TV volume up really loud. Sure enough, their dog thought the racket was coming from their TV and so pretty much just slept thru the real, live, close by, fireworks show. They checked often, as they didn't think that trick would work. It did because their dog was so very used to hearing their loud TV, so their dog just assumed the noise was coming from their TV.

    I take melatonin every day. I give it to my dog when she seems to be hyper and goes several days without sleeping at all during the daytime. It seems to straighten up that messed up pattern - happens sometimes every couple of months. One 3 mg seems to help a lot. Also if thunderstorms or fireworks - helps a bit.

    Thank you for the info given. We had a rescue dog on Melatonin ( had Lupus) and for a dog with Cushings/ high cortisol but assymptomatic , so did not have to be on Vetoryl we supported with Melatonin among many other supps.. However, I did know its effect on PLTs. This rose really much curiosity for me. As an insomniac for about a 3 decadesi this post really means I am in big trouble🙃

      There is a new human study on low tiny dose of 0.5mg. I read it to see why they are selling 10 and 20 mg capsules. Boy I was surprised I did not need more but way less.

    • @champagnemls
      @champagnemls Год назад

      @@gbarnett9470 0.5 started to be used already a couple of years ago. Cushings is a very complicated disease and the Cortisol is very difficult to regulate. You may have a tiny dog and need a higher dose but sometimes for a large dog 0.5 is sufficient. It is more complex for the doctors to establish the right dose than treatment. Well, there is never a full treatment to Cushings but at least control. I am sure science will come up with a lot more solutions to it. THEREFORE, I would very much suggest you to apply to TCM doctors. With science we are trying sometimes reresolve problems whereas TCM had already solved them.

      I have given to a dog with cushings and her hair grew back. I also have taken it for over 30 years as I have fibromyalgia and sleep is not good. When I started there was much Info saying this was a bad thing for me. Times have changed. I went with my gut instinct and carried on. Trying to function with poor sleep is no joke.

    Thanks for your helpful video. We will be trying melatonin for my daughter's dog who was a rescue, and she suffers from severe separation anxiety. My little shih tzu has some mucousy eye drainage, and so I will try some for him, see if that helps. Our vet also recommended Genteal eye drops for dry eyes.(which he is not fond of). I will get back to you with results.
    I had a shih tzu before, Willie, who had thrombocytopenia, and was anemic. The vet suggested we try Yunnan Baiyao. I didn't know about Melatonin for him. I believe that Yunnan Baiyao along with a mushroom capsule for the cancer cell apoptosis, and feeding him liver on a regular basis is what kept him going.He lived to the age of 13.

    I have a question. My female border collie is going to be 15 next month. Just recently she has been very off. Last night she stood at her water bowl drinking and peeing at the same time. Her ability to go up and down steps was to the point where I had to help her. Today I had to pick her up, pack her outside, where she lied down to pee. She can still get up and walk to the water dish but seems to be having a serious problem when she goes to lay back down
