Dr. Jones, you are absolutely right about the use of melatonin for dogs. I have a sixteen-year-old dog with some dementia and about three months ago he was keeping me up all night howling and it was me who wasn't getting rest. He was put on melatonin and now he and I both get to sleep and to me it's a wonder drug.
Our Maltese - Shihtzu is approaching 15, she has Cushings which we elected to treat with melatonin, adrenal homeopathy and lignins. The vet told us she would boat make it to her last birthday, well she’s here, living the dream I the farm and very happy and active.
I have a 10 yr old chihuahua with diabetes and cushings. I found melatonin and ground flax ( lignins I think) work well for her for cushings. I put the flax on her food.
I use 3 mgs of melatonin am and pm. I sprinkle ground flax on her food. I googled flax and melatonin to figure out how much. Melatonin is about 6.00 for a bottle at Walmart. The ground flax at Walmart is about 4-5.00. I put it in my freezer.
I use Melatonin 3 mg to help my dog sleep she is blind and has anxiety at night due to darkness she also has an enlarged heart so we needed to keep her calm and it has worked for her
I have a rescue dog that was missing hair on her chest when I got her. The vet prescribed melatonin and sure enough her hair grew back. It doesn't make her sleepy either and she has no side effects from this. I wasn't aware it helps with anxiety and Cushing's as well. Great video. Thank you Dr Jones.
My rescue staffy, who I believe lived the life of a backyard breeder, hates gunfire and fireworks. I’ll be testing melatonin on her tonight.. 4th July Weekend and of course during hunting season. Thank you Dr. We need more like you for humans as well as for all animals. God bless you!
Do you know what brand he is showing of the melatonin to give your dog? Because there’s certain ingredients that are very harmful and poison to dogs. And I don’t seem to be getting any answers from anywhere.
@@Mistylynn442 I used what I had in the house. After reading your comment I checked to see if there were any other toxic or otherwise substances in the brand I have. The answer is no. It’s Lignans for LIFE. I don’t know what brand the good Dr. Jones is using.
this works for hair loss and everything you say. My daughters mini 5 lb. pom lost almost all her hair and it came almost completely back. also works for my highly immune suppressed rescued at 8weeks now 5 yrs old..papillon mix. I feed balanced home made salmon/vitamins meals I make (she eats better than we do) ;)). It all help her but have to keep on top of her weakness. I don't think she will ever be completely healed of her immunity weakness. Im now doing your flea and tic remedy for her (Daisy), she looks like a 12 lb papillon, white and apricot...so cute...love her to pieces. She's worth every bit of my energy and time and I just hope I can outlive her. I really worry about that because I'm 77. Thank you for mentioning the Xylitol. That TOXIC product needs to be recalled and banned. Why do they put a toxic ingredient in Melatonin, which is a healthy product?
I take it to help me with my anxiety and sleep as well. I get the 3mg NOW brand since it's minimal ingredients in the capsule and I can double it if I want instead of just taking the 3mg. Works really well.

I wish I had known this 8 years ago when my dog was diagnosed with Cushings, then 2.5 years later passed away, maybe from her heart. She was on Vetoryl for I think 2 years.
My girl, Moxie gets Melatonin twice a day for her anxiety issues, I'm thrilled to see so many more benefits to the therapy. Thank you, Dr. Jones, for this information!
Its not just produced in the pineal gland, actually the majority of it is produced in your gut and its a big help to your mitochondrial function in all mammals.
My cortisol has given me belly fat from a couple of rough deaths close together, my stress has almost been disabling. Thus seems like the answer I've been needing. My dogs too, they have anxiety I think from me.
Yes! They are sensitive and pets will feed off your stress. My dog hav an ivdd episode in January that worried me like crazy then a month later a health concern for me and almost losing my home I realized my dog was getting sicker and they suspect an adrenal disease now. I'm doing everything I can for me and him to heal back😢
Aloha Dr. Jones, thank you so much for all that you do. My last dog, a Lhasa/ Maltese, died of Cushing’s Disease 😭. She was on a very expensive medication ( it was 9 yrs. ago) and I don’t remember what it was, except that it was $100 a month for 1 pill a day. It extended her life for 18 months. Wish I would have had you in my life then. I’ve been giving my first Puppydoodle since then, a precious Maltchi, a small amount of Meletonin daily and am seeing some hair growth and less licking. You are such a beautiful, brilliant, kind human being🐾✌🏼♥️👏🏼🐕🦺.
Great news about melatonin! Thank you Doc! My 3 1/2 yo Presa developed flank alopecia😢 His vet told me to give him 5 mgs a day. Since he is 120#, I've been giving him 10mgs. Fur regrowth is a slow progress, but he's beginning to look much better, and it's been about 6 weeks!💖
Thank you Dr Jones for all the remedies I’ve used them for my dog and have had great results. Tula is such a patient dog i love watching videos she’s in
Today is July 3rd in Arizona. I will be buying some today for my 4 dogs because of the fireworks. I used to take it when I worked all nights. I always got enough sleep in the daytime with no side effects.
Dr Jones, YOU ROCK! thanks for the good info on melatonin. I have been giving it to my old fella for a few years now, for multiple reasons. One of them being to suppress estrogen since he was neutered, (before I adopted) at 8 weeks of age and he has a terrible hormone imbalance from early neutering.
REMEMBER 🤔🙌 Everything in Moderation... And ALWAYS & STEADILY using personal Daily Priorities on **Researching on THISE FEW Nowadays Truthful People ‼️🆘

Hudson 5 years old and is back on Melatonin because after a year taking it, I was suggested to stop and wait n see for his Alopecia. This year he started loosing fur again. Could also be stress too. I was suggested Melatonin may not work the second time. I hope it works again! Too much noise around here. He hates noise!
Are there specific types of foods I should avoid for my dog with cushings? He's been on a fresh food low carb diet (Raised Right brand, turkey) - but I had been giving him a topper of sardine a couple times a week - until I recently saw something about sardines being bad. Any advice is appreciated
Dr. Jones, we almost lost our dog to IMT back in March. I sure would have tried melatonin if I knew. After spending a couple thousand on the three meds, multiple lab work tests, vet visits...my vet never mentioned melatonin may help her. Is there anything you can do to convince the FDA to get a trial started? IMT is such an aggressive disease! I'm very shocked she made it through. So much blood loss, I'm amazed she survived. We all love you Dr. Jones. If anyone can get a trial started, it is you!!!! We need more vets with a heart and brains all in one such as yourself! ❤
I gave 2.5mg twice daily for 5 months, no hair loss, lots of fur grew on his body. 100% effectively. Dr Jones is the best. Thanks a lot for all your hard work to make all those videos.

I have learned more from you in the time I started watching you, than I have from all my doctors combined. Thank You. I am almost 80 and do not use any medication, but I do use supplements, for both myself and my animals. I know that it works.
In October of last year, my schnauzer received a diagnosis of SARDS, resulting in his blindness. He's 12 year old. We also had him screened for Cushing's disease due to fur loss around the croup area. Thankfully, the test came back negative. Due to his blindness, he experiences sticky discharge around his eyes. I stumbled upon this video a few days ago, prompting me to start him on a daily dose (once a day?) of melatonin. He's 8.2 kg. Hopefully, this treatment will work on him. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Hi Dr Jones. My cat has stomach cancer and has been put on Antibiotics, Cortisone and Gastric Protectants. I have started him on Melatonin yesterday as suggested by you? Can I keep going while his on these drugs? Warm regards from Australia Lucy
My dog Hermie would find it hard sleeping through pain (diabetes & spinal problem). My vet started him on 6mg (40 pounds) of Melatonin which helped him. I bought a brand that has L Theanine added. This vid was so helpful because I will start Lily on it now too. She has a reflux problem (when she drinks) secondary to a huge tummy lipoma. The lipoma makes it hard for her to sleep. Between her age (15yo), her breed (minibulldog), and she's anemic, she's not a candidate for surgery. Thank you for this helpful video!
Notice many comments about fireworks. Friends have a dog who's terrified of the noise. So (since we happened to have been motorhome camping right near the staging area) I recommended they leave their dog in their moho with their TV volume up really loud. Sure enough, their dog thought the racket was coming from their TV and so pretty much just slept thru the real, live, close by, fireworks show. They checked often, as they didn't think that trick would work. It did because their dog was so very used to hearing their loud TV, so their dog just assumed the noise was coming from their TV.
I take melatonin every day. I give it to my dog when she seems to be hyper and goes several days without sleeping at all during the daytime. It seems to straighten up that messed up pattern - happens sometimes every couple of months. One 3 mg seems to help a lot. Also if thunderstorms or fireworks - helps a bit.
Thank you for the info given. We had a rescue dog on Melatonin ( had Lupus) and for a dog with Cushings/ high cortisol but assymptomatic , so did not have to be on Vetoryl we supported with Melatonin among many other supps.. However, I did know its effect on PLTs. This rose really much curiosity for me. As an insomniac for about a 3 decadesi this post really means I am in big trouble🙃
There is a new human study on low tiny dose of 0.5mg. I read it to see why they are selling 10 and 20 mg capsules. Boy I was surprised I did not need more but way less.
@@gbarnett9470 0.5 started to be used already a couple of years ago. Cushings is a very complicated disease and the Cortisol is very difficult to regulate. You may have a tiny dog and need a higher dose but sometimes for a large dog 0.5 is sufficient. It is more complex for the doctors to establish the right dose than treatment. Well, there is never a full treatment to Cushings but at least control. I am sure science will come up with a lot more solutions to it. THEREFORE, I would very much suggest you to apply to TCM doctors. With science we are trying sometimes reresolve problems whereas TCM had already solved them.
I have given to a dog with cushings and her hair grew back. I also have taken it for over 30 years as I have fibromyalgia and sleep is not good. When I started there was much Info saying this was a bad thing for me. Times have changed. I went with my gut instinct and carried on. Trying to function with poor sleep is no joke.
Thanks for your helpful video. We will be trying melatonin for my daughter's dog who was a rescue, and she suffers from severe separation anxiety. My little shih tzu has some mucousy eye drainage, and so I will try some for him, see if that helps. Our vet also recommended Genteal eye drops for dry eyes.(which he is not fond of). I will get back to you with results. I had a shih tzu before, Willie, who had thrombocytopenia, and was anemic. The vet suggested we try Yunnan Baiyao. I didn't know about Melatonin for him. I believe that Yunnan Baiyao along with a mushroom capsule for the cancer cell apoptosis, and feeding him liver on a regular basis is what kept him going. He lived to the age of 13.

My girl, Moxie gets Melatonin twice a day for her anxiety issues, I'm thrilled to see so many more benefits to the therapy. Thank you, Dr. Jones, for this information!
Can you share the type of melatonin you use? Thanks
Thank you Dr Jones/ you are simply a wonderful soul
I'm doing everything I can for me and him to heal back😢
@@opticmusprime808 I'm giving my dogs ashwagandha now. Its a tincture for adrenal support. Lowers cortisol too.
It works for cushings too
Thank you Dr Jones for all the remedies I’ve used them for my dog and have had great results. Tula is such a patient dog i love watching videos she’s in
Today is July 3rd in Arizona. I will be buying some today for my 4 dogs because of the fireworks. I used to take it when I worked all nights. I always got enough sleep in the daytime with no side effects.
Can cats take it as well?
Dr Jones, YOU ROCK! thanks for the good info on melatonin. I have been giving it to my old fella for a few years now, for multiple reasons. One of them being to suppress estrogen since he was neutered, (before I adopted) at 8 weeks of age and he has a terrible hormone imbalance from early neutering.
REMEMBER 🤔🙌
Everything in Moderation...
And ALWAYS & STEADILY using personal Daily Priorities on **Researching on THISE FEW Nowadays Truthful People ‼️🆘
Anna, that’s terrible! I can’t believe someone would do that…wonder if the owner did it as I can’t see a vet agreeing to.
To neuter puppy should be declared as crime, how is allowed to do destroy endocrine system fully functioning at least until whole body develops ??? There are so many simple methods to prevent overpopulation, just like in nature or helping irresponsible pet owners...
Would this work for skin irritations, or over yeast production?

Thanks for sharing
WoW, I learned a lot! God bless you Doc! I've been taking melatonin since my husband died, 6 years ago. Good to know that it's safe for my dog too. 👑🙏🏻💞✝️🐾🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
I have learned more from you in the time I started watching you, than I have from all my doctors combined. Thank You. I am almost 80 and do not use any medication, but I do use supplements, for both myself and my animals. I know that it works.
You are so welcome!
Miss Tula has a lovely new hair cut. ❤🐶
Would you please be able to put a link for the correct Melatonin to purchase. I am in Scotland and would like to purchase
I am in UK and get mine from France. ...... anastore
Castor oil is the key
I think I am going to try this. My cat seems to have anxiety and over grooms a lot. I get her all healed up, then she does it again.
Is there a specific brand or type you recommend
i truly thank God for you Dr Jones. Your a life saver!
He’s a wonderful caring veterinarian. Thanks Dr Jones
Tula is so cute with her new hair cut ❤❤

My dog has cushings and after watching you video i have learned alot about the condition and how to treat it naturally but this was another great video to watch to be helping my beautiful dog called London
Hi Dr Jones. My cat has stomach cancer and has been put on Antibiotics, Cortisone and Gastric Protectants. I have started him on Melatonin yesterday as suggested by you? Can I keep going while his on these drugs? Warm regards from Australia Lucy
I found you today…what a blessing ❤️you are for pets and their family’s Thank you 🙏
My dog Hermie would find it hard sleeping through pain (diabetes & spinal problem).
I just started to give my dog with TCC melatonin. Between melatonin and the other supplements we are using, we hope she lives a long life 🙏🏽!
My rescue Amstaff X Melatonin has been the wonder drug ❤️🐕
Thank you for this info. Can you suggest a brand? and or IF you need to use one spacafacally for pets?
Thanks for your help and trying to make my Dexter's life a little easier with cushings.
My dog won't go for a walk, is there anything you can suggest ? Thank you for all your videos
Thank you for this video, Dr. Jones, do you recommend using melatonin as a preventive and if so what dosage and brands can you suggest, please?
Is it ok when I give my old dogs melatonin every day? With enlarge heart issue too
Thanks for your helpful video.
My Sabrina, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, ended up in ICU for a week. Fluid in chest cavity and almost zero platelets. She is on no fat, script digestive food only and Dr Harvey’s raw Vibrance also I have a special food recipe specific to her due to this disease.. I shall try the melatonin. Thank you for this information.
Thank you for your natural treatments.
You're welcome :)
Thank you so much for your experienced knowledge, much appreciated !☺️👍
This is great news. Sharing with some friends and planning to try with 2 of my dogs. Thank you for helping us care for our animals ourselves and more naturally!!
Our pleasure!
Do they need to take it daily and if yes how many weeks?
Thank you!!! What brand is he holding and what dosage is recommended???
Have been using Melatonin and MCT Oil in conjunction with Phenobarbital for our Dog's Night time Epileptic Seizures .. They work together, significantly reducing Seizures ..
Can I use it on my cat who is very jumpy / anxious ?
Aloha Dr. Jones, you are a living Angel in human form. Can’t thank you enough for all that you do. Tula couldn’t be any more precious 🥇🐾🏆❤️.
Would it help older horses with Cushings?
Wonderful information! Thank you so much Dr. Jones!

I would like to ask,my cat diagnosed with tumor... What kind of product should i use as about Melatonin to ,help him? I live in Greece ...Is the liquid melatonin for human consumption able for the treatment or do i need to look to a specific vet product ? If anyone else know in comments i would like to hear from you... Thanks ... :)
I have a question. My female border collie is going to be 15 next month. Just recently she has been very off. Last night she stood at her water bowl drinking and peeing at the same time. Her ability to go up and down steps was to the point where I had to help her. Today I had to pick her up, pack her outside, where she lied down to pee. She can still get up and walk to the water dish but seems to be having a serious problem when she goes to lay back down
