  • From the 2000 L.A. Reprise! production of "Call Me Madam," Karen Morrow's first song, "The Hostess with the Mostess' on the Ball," followed by "You're Just in Love," with Morrow and Hugh Panaro. Peter Matz is musical director. Find Lindsay Mendez and Stephanie Block in the ensemble. Block also understudied Morrow. You can see Tyne Daly perform "Hostess" at • TYNE DALY Call Me Madam

I am the guy playing one of the pianos. Karen can be seen
"playing" with me. I had some hair then, no beard....and glasses..white dinner jacket. (not mine...lol) I assisted Peter Matz on this show, as I did for many for the late, sorely ,missed L.A. Reprise's first four seasons, before I took over as Musical Director for the next six. Pete did the glorious orchestration for "You're just in love". The Sound is just terrific. Hugh is of course, also great...but how glorious does that divine Karen Morrow sound??? Bless who recorded this and who posted this!!!

directed by John Bowab! choreographed by the late, great Alan Johnson!!! And i realize I am conducting this performance! ( How cool to see this! Peter Matz had a former commitment for one performance, he was conducting for Linda Ronstadt!)

These clips of two of the many great numbers in CALL ME MADAM are incredible. Not only do we have the GREAT Karen Morrow singing THE HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS ON THE BALL, we also get Karen again dusting with the WONDERFUL Hugh Panaro. This is first class Irving Berlin, first class Peter Matz, and first class entertainment. How I hope more from this concert becomes available. THANK YOU

Ethel Merman introduced this role that gave her the Tony Award in 1950 and made the movie version with Donald O Connor and George Sanders. Karen Morrow is excellent here in her Merman style of belter singing here with Hugh Penaro.

Ms. Morrow is wrong. She had "IT" in spades. The problem was that by the time she came on the scene, they just weren't writing Broadway musicals to showcase her big-voice style.

I read this "info" somewhere maybe on YT or on the Internet so take it with a grain of salt. When Morrow first came to the notice of the critics, she was considered as the next Merm. She was at a party with the Merm who refused to speak to her. Oh, well. So sad, she never had that show come her way because what a talent! I heard of her the first time as the last replacement for Princess Puffer in "The Mystery of Edwin of Drood" on Broadway.
