If all you hear is him mirroring the guitar, it’s obvious you don’t play bass or drums. Every ghost note syncs perfectly with the hi-hat, each thump with the kick, and each pop with the snare.
I’d say the problem is not that the bass is too quiet in the mix as far as the song goes. The problem is that, and this goes for 99% of play throughs I’ve listened to on RUclips, for a bass play through the focus should be the bass. Whatever the bass level is for the release of the song, for a play through the mix should be grossly skewed to favor the bass.
lol..... I'll have to 10000000000000% disagree... I hear the bass almost too much... It and the guitar are fighting so hard to be in the forefront and I think either the tone of the guitar should completely drop it's mid and boost its treb, or the bass should go down a bit. That's just a mixing nitpick though on my end. But to be completely honest it still sounds wonderful and I can CERTAINLY hear both instruments fully and am not having a hard time at all separating whats bass and whats guitar lol....

The composition of this song is already so good, I was blown away the first time I heard it. I generally don't listen to playthroughs, as I actually suck at playing anything; but it's so technical & arranged so well, I've been watching these videos. The fact that they used an erhu in the track blows my mind. It fits perfectly, & just the sheer confidence & knowledge to know that's what the song needed is just amazing.
Songs have been mixed for the different ways people listen to them for years. The art is making them sound good in a range of different common listening situations. The bass needs to be higher, regardless of how good my home system might be.
That next album better have the bass turned up cuz you are doing the lords work son
