My 13 year old self remembers that part immensely. God bless the local video tape rental place for having more than 1 copy because I'm pretty sure me and my friends would've worn out the tape from rewinding it so many times if they just had 1 copy
@@gyromurphy lol.. hands down the most memorable part! She looked amazing
The guy that played the doofus in the oversized suit said he had never seen a shaved cootch up to filming this movie. John Philbin, I think. He was a surfer from California.
I just watched this movie again 3 days ago.
RIP Clu Gulager. You were an absolute legend.
Rip
return of the living dead has one of the best soundtrack of the 80s
The intro theme is awesome!!
Watched this as a rental in 86 when I was 6. Never been the same. Thought all women were hairless for a while. This movie fucking rocks!
I didn't watch it on VHS till I was in 6th or 7th grade. Thankfully the local video rental place had more than 1 copy because I'm sure me and my friends would've ruined the tape from rewinding it over and over
@@gyromurphyI watched it for the first time as the pandemic was winding down. It's awesome!!
I watched it for the first time in '91, two days before my 10th birthday. It was a Christmas Eve zombie movie marathon.
"The Return of the living dead" is what gave me my love of punk rock,Linnea Quigley&zombies. Along with Killer Klowns from outer space&Army of Darkness, RotLD is among the 1st wave of DVDs I've owned.
Oh, wow, I helped make a difference as a Channel Member. It's a pleasure to help inform you of stuff, sorry if it seemed like too much. XD Still a great fun episode on a great and fun film. Linnea Quigley and Miguel A. Núñez Jr, always great seeing them as with the late great Clu Gulager.
Tar Man is my favorite Zombie of all time, he’s so weird and distinct, plus I can’t tell if he’s puppet or not or somewhere in between lol
It is a guy in a suit. It is on the special features on those terrible dvd.
I saw a guy cosplay him at a horror convention. It looked great.
When he said, you watch your tongue boy, I about died!
I grew up similar to Tony in that I watched movies that I shouldn't have been watching at a young age, probably even more so than Tony. We had HBO growing up and my parents used to tape literally every movie they could. So we had a whole wall of VHS tapes recorded from the HBO channel unedited. I also had a vcr in my room and would just grab random tapes off the wall and watch them in my room so I had little to no supervision on what I watched. So I first saw this film when I was probably 10 or 11? I didn't realize how different my viewing habits were until I got to high school. I introduced this movie to so many people and always love to see their reaction. Most fall in love with it.
NO FN WAY!!!!!! I’ve been waiting for yall to do this since I first watched this movie lol
I love Return of the Living Dead. The characters, the humor, and the Zombies were top-notch. It's funny how the skeleton with the eyes (which the director and producers HATED) has become so iconic.
It's so much fun!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie! This was another of the "I was way too young when I first saw this" movies. It never gets old...in fact I'm gonna marathon it with Uncle Sam and Jaws this week for the 4th. Awesome episode. 🤘Have a great holiday Tony!
Great episode as always! ROTLD is indeed a classic. My intro to it was via the theatrical one-sheet hanging on my cousin’s bedroom wall…absolutely terrified me!
As for the humor in the film? I love the subtlety of it all. My favorite bit next to Ernie cutting off his pant leg is when Bert and Spider take the police car and crash it when getting to Casey and Chuck. Bert’s all “it’s alright, my car’s still out there” (BOOM) and Spider says “not anymore.” 😂😂😂😂
Linnea Quigley's performance alone is enough reason to watch the movie. Apparently, she made a zombie workout video, too... the woman is a national treasure
@@gyromurphy Yes… I also appreciate “her performance”. I appreciate it so hard lol
She meets a topless demise in silent night deadly night
ROTLD is still my favorite movie of all time. It has everything. I first saw it as a kid in the 80s and I still cannot watch it enough times. New 4k Steelbook coming in August!
My dad showed it to me when I was like 5 years old. It's in my top 3
I originally saw this as an eight year old back in 1991. I have been a zombie film fan ever since.
35:35 Behind the scenes I heard the First Effects people guy got Fired so they replaced all the effects except the Fake looking eye opened Skeleton.
This is my favorite zombie movie of all time Tony. You better not f this up.
Long live the bum rush zombies.
The guy playing suicide also played in Friday the 13th part 5. He's the guy that kills Joey
He dies of brain cancer not too long after this movie. RIP
Two great guests, 1 of my top ten all-time films, and the world famous Tony. Life is kinda cool sometimes.
I was already a big Romero fan as a kid. My favorite magazine was Fangoria. I wanted to order the Living Dead t-shirts advertised in the magazine so bad. I remember it was a picture of zombies driving a Jeep yelling Brains!!
i been waiting for you guy's to do this one for a long time. this movie introduced me to the cramps
Dixie and Ryan look like they are two oblivious cops going under cover as part of a biker gang
@@pauliewalnuts2527 "Howdy do, fellow bikers?"
Hey you rascal! Don’t blow our cover! We want the young biker gang people to accept us into their tribe!
they look like they would go to a punk show and then complain that people are moshing around them 😂
That made me laugh harder than it should have.
@@pauliewalnuts2527 Hey, you scoundrel! Don’t blow our cover! We’ve almost made into the cool kids gang 😂
Guests were A+++ in this ep. This is one of my favorite movies ever. It's nice hearing some othrr people talk about all the easter eggs etc especially Ernie being a Nazi
First saw this one as a kid in the 90's on monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs. Scars the shit out of me for the longest time. My grandma lived by a graveyard and I would sit up at night looking out the window, nightmares etc like I'm talking a couple years of this lol. This one and Phantasm 2.
Also..do phantasm
Saw this at the drive in when it came out, and I was maybe 6 years old… I’ve had zombie-themed nightmares ever since. Thanks RotLD!
Nice! So does this mean you are going to cover all of them or just this one?
Maybe!
@@HackTheMovies if you do I recommend 2 and 3, 4 and 5 are not good
@@HackTheMoviesplease cover them all! I’d be forever grateful. You can skip 4&5 though lol
Hopefully that scoundrel Tony covers them and brings me back. There aren’t enough bald bearded men on RUclips.
I saw this when the pandemic was winding down! It's surprisingly a fun time! Good gore effects, humor and a rockin soundtrack!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time and it's good to see that so many people love it too. It really never gets old. I was hoping y'all would mention how sweaty this movie is, particularly Frank. It must have been miserable filming in that warehouse. Also when the little amputee zombie slips in the mud and they immediately cut... never fails to make me laugh my ass off.
I love this community! Howdy everyone. Long time listener, first time poster.
Favorite movie of all time. And syphon filter is the best video game ever
I assume you’ll go into how Romero and the creator of this split, and Romero took “Of The Dead” as his own series, and this guy took “Of The Living Dead” as his
John Russo cowrote Night Of The Living Dead and always owned the rights to it afaik
@@Grom-rl8bm there was some deal they worked out I thought? I believe their parting of ways was amicable
You missed the background joke in Burt's office with the eye chart on the wall talking about how he is a slave driver and a cheap SOB. 😃
Martin Mull passed away
You know what that means tony
Do a Tribute episode of Clue to moneti*Cough* Remember him in a lovely way
This movie made me pull my comforter over my head to mask the smell of my brains with my LJN Sword of Omens by my side.
There was a period where this was my favorite movie of all time and I could quote almost every dialogue. Still love the soundtrack to THIS DAY. Still inspired by them, especially in my comic.
the gurgling noise when the yellow guy gets it in the back of the head sounds like the sound effects of the cow in Me, Myself and Irene when Jim Carrey is trying to finish off the cow and it won't die. LOL
ROTLD 3 is really good. It falls just a little behind 1. That BDSM outfit + self pain from the protsgonist brings some Hellrsiser 90s vibe. ROTLD 2 is the cheesiest one of all
Re-animator, anyone??
One of the greatest films ever made!
Hell yes!
15:02 I can relate 😂
On my first day at AMC my manager told me about how an angry customer wanted a refund for a movie even though he saw the entire thing, when told he can't be given one ,the customer spat in his face. Then he told me that might happen to you and you can't take it personally. Probably one of the worst pep talks I've ever heard in my life .
It’s also a perfect 4th of July film!
Really?
@@kdusel1991 Yep July 3rd it takes place.
@@a.f.watcher8888thats pretty awesome actually! Now all you gotta do is watch independence day!
My theory with Trash is simply that she did get her brains partially eaten before the rain reanjmated her, but since we don't see the back of her head and her red hair obscures the wound.
Also iirc the morgue guy's whole deal is he had a german officer as an ancestor and he is "very proud of his heritage", so take that as you will lol
Dixie is right. Somehow I think of this film like comfort food and fun despite everyone dying. Good pick.
Return of the Living Dead is the best zombie movie not made by a guy with Romero in his name. Hack the Living Dead can't even hold a candle to it.
Hack the living dead is still really good though.
Tony wait! Comments, even unsettled ones about actors' real life transgressions might drive engagement!
Factually the best movie ever made.
Ace was the original arrow to the knee
I didn't know anything about scuz(?) until I watched Sean Clarks podcast an he was saying they asked him if he wanted scuz to accompany him for his Horrors Hallowed Grounds episode of ROTLD, this was years before that nickelodeon thing an he was like Bleep No!! cause he already knew about the guy even back then.
"A born like that amputee"😂😂 I dont think thats how that works.
There are 2 different versions of the song Party Time. The one used in the movie is the fun zombie version. The original version is sad and not really fun but still not bad. Best they went with the other one.
I didn’t know that until recently and can’t believe how depressing the slow version is. The film version is perfect.
@@MyMonsterFX Yeah, the original aint something you wanna listen to much. The album its on "Sleep in Safety" is definitely worth listening to though.
Excited for this! Fucking love this movie.
This is my favorite movie. I know you're shocked it's not a WW2 movie, but there is a German in it. I'm surprised there was no mention of the changed score and voices version. Based on the Blu-ray, I'm assuming that's the version you watched. Now you need to do a video about the differences between the work print and the original version too.
That's the hommie from the Bloodsport review?! What the hell happened to him? He went from hipster to dumpster 😂
99% perfect horror movie. I have loved it since it first came out.
Love this movie, still creeps me out and thrills me all these years.
And Partytime is such an ear worm you forget the rest of the lyrics are about the r*pe and murder of a 5 year old.
28:57 Friday the 13th Part 4 Did the eating around a Corpse thing too.
This is still one of my favorite zombie comedies
Still haven’t figured what the eye chart says in Bert’s office. It’s a Easter egg
Another movie my older siblings made too young me watched. I was probably around 6 and it scared the shit out of me…
This is the first movie that I saw Linnea Quigley in.
Then Silent Night Deadly Night.
This movie is really fun!
"Barn ampjuutee...oxjmaron." 37:07
I saw this when it first released when I was 7, and I had nightmares about this movie till I was in my 20's😧
Search it up and apparently you can close your eyes with glass eyes
You can, my grandfather has one but sometimes he sleeps with his eyelid open over his glass eye but when he’s awake he blinks like every one else and you wouldn’t notice he has a glass eye unless someone told you and you were looking for it maybe he got a good one anyway it was kinda creepy the first time he was napping and snoring but that one eye was open so he can “sleep with one eye open “ 🎶
I haven't seen any Romero movies but this is the best Zombie movie ever in my opinion. I legit got creeped out at the end when the guy and girl are hiding in the ceiling and he's pretty much gonna shoot her so the zombie can't get her and the dude just creeper me out as the zombie. I can smell your braaainnsss
I was tripping on that amputee actor? He wasn't a puppet, or cgi, ❤ he haunted me all my life, be careful you may lose a limb,kid...
Basically
Target: night of the living dead
Walmart: return of the living dead...
Amazon:dawn of the living dead
Everything else: shaun of the living dead🎭
The rough cut is good. And never send this movie in a long time. Tony me love you long time. 5$ suckie suckie. Or 3.50 old fashion.
Wut
@@evan827 it’s a South Park joke. When cartmen became a hoe.
The other split dogs saw what happened to the first one and decided to play regular dead 😂
Was a teenager when this came out. A friend & I had time to kill before meeting up with our other friends at a small town carnival, were out walking around, tripping on blotter (!!!) and passed by the Stage 4 and saw the movie title ...we were big metal/horror people, knew nothing about the ROTLD, immediately decided we needed to see it, then ended up sitting through it twice (you could do that back in those days, plus theaters never carded us for R rated flicks) When we eventually met up with our buddies later that evening we went on & on about ROTLD, and all of us went and watched it the next day. So, yeah, def a movie that appeals to "partying" types.
Best zombie movie ever made period. Managed to be scary enough, least when I was a kid anyway, but hilarious as well and full of great quotes and music. All the characters played and casted perfectly. Honestly I dare say it's my second favorite movie of all time, only because nothing can top big trouble in little china. Watched it 1000s of times, would gladly watch it a 1000 more.
Wow RUclips is allowing you to say the dreaded S word lmao 🤣 figured you would have had to call Suicide “Unalive” 😂
We are breaking down barriers and we don’t care who we offend!
I think this film was also the origin of the running zombies.
People forget the very first zombie in night of the living dead ran
@@HackTheMovies good call
"26:57 Herr Kaltenbreuner.....Eine Getrvnken Soldat."
That’s cool but I’d prefer a review of hell of the living dead
LOL Jesus Christ, that movie is so bad.
*cue stolen Goblin music*
We made a drinking game on how many times the green hair liberal says "that's fair" and now we're plastered. Love the great hat Tony!!!
Burt clinging to that old school "quit your whining....be a man" mentality as everything keeps absurdly escalating is hilarious.
This movie vs Romero's Day of the Dead; where do people land? I know it's kind of a silly vs serious arguement, but what do you all like?
The Tar Man was a childhood boogie man. I saw this way too young.
I know I'm in the minority here but I enjoyed Return Of The Living Dead 2 is just as much as the first movie. It doesn't have the same Punk flavour but it's still worth checking out for James Karen and Thom Mathews alone. Their banter is worth the price of admission alone. Some of the effects are cool (some are laughable) but it does everything it needs to for a schlocky zombie sequel.
Forrest J. Ackerman is,indeed in part 2 and I believe it is literally for a second.
One of my All-Time Favorite ZOMBIE Flicks & the 4-Sequels are Really Fun too 😃🤘☠️☠️☠️
The only film to really traumatize me as a kid and it also made me more intelligent for it.
I remember being like 12 and finding this movie on the scream channel.
One of the better zombie movies. I liked both 1 and 2 and 3 is like a romeo and juliet zombie movie. 4 and 5 idk.
"50:18 Failsafe"
"Tarman Kevorkian"
My favorite zombie movie of all time. This and Day of the Dead are my favorite, favorite zombie flicks. I have both on Blu Ray and VHS also have a blood splattered vinyl of the soundtrack for Return. Surfin Dead is a certified bop.
Also, whatever you do, don’t look up photos of Jewel Shepard nude. 😉
I wish I could like this video twice!!
One of the best zombie movies

This movie is amazing
I guess Crystal was busy.
I am the new Crystal. Bald and beautiful! 😂
The first 3 RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD films are my fave. Parts 4 and 5 suck!!!!
3 is awful, its basically Romeo and Juliet, stuffed with so much 90s tude and has like 6 zombies in a movie called Return of the Living Dead most of which look like they came from Radio Shack. Its better than 4 and 5 but that isn't saying much since they were SyFy Originals filmed in Romania with people who could barely speak English
@@lutherheggs451 3 is bad, but not awful, there exists hundreds of truly awful zombie movies that make 3 a masterpiece in comparison. However three while watchable, loses all the comedy of the first 2 and has none of their charm either. Main characters are unlikeable, rest of the cast feels like their phoning it in, zombies still do their job of at least being somewhat scary ect. So it's bad, but watchable, but yeah 4 and 5 are complete dogshit. Three I could at least enjoy it enough as a child to rewatch it multiple times just cause I loved zombie movies, but it is a hard rewatch now adays because it really is void of any and all charm.
@@Saryrn_Sorrow I can rewatch the first 3 all day, everyday, but yet again I grew up watching the three of them on tv as a kid lol.
@@timvasser9I've only seen the first! It's surprisingly pretty fun! Should I see the others?
@@kdusel1991 imo I would watch Part 2 and 3 and then stop! Do not watch 4 or 5, they were Syfy Channel films and stink big time. Part 2 is more comedy than the 1st but still great and Part 3 is good but not a masterpiece but still watchable
