  • Going to war as the top two chip stacks at a final table is ICM suicide in the eyes of many. That's exactly what happens during this PokerGo Cup final table as Justin Zaki uses his big stack to try and bully Jonathan Little in a blind vs blind battle. But can Jonathan muster up the courage to pick off Zaki’s bluff?
When you are the chip leader at a final table, you should be betting more often than normal. As the big stack you can exert a lot of Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on the smaller stacks at the table, who are always at risk of busting when they are involved in a pot against you. This is especially true against the middling stacks of the tournament, who will be looking to outlast the shorter stacks and move up the pay jumps.
Jonathan Little ‘FieryJustice’, ’Jcardshark’, ‘JonLittle’ is in the top 150 on the all time money list with over $8,800,000 in total live earnings. He has 2 World Poker Tour (WPT) titles, both of which were for over $1,000,000. He won the WPT Season VI (2007-2008) Player of the Year award. Jonathan is a 38 year old professional poker player from the U.S.A. He is also the founder of PokerCoaching.com.
Justin Zaki is a professional poker player from the U.S.A. with over $5,300,000 in live tournament earnings, putting him in the top 330 on the all time money list.
The 2024 PokerGo Cup was a series of eight No-Limit Hold'em poker tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $10,000 - $25,000 played from January 25 to February 3, 2024 and held inside the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
    $25,000 - 2024 PokerGo Cup Event #8 - Results
    1st: Jonathan Little U.S.A - $453,750
    2nd: Justin Zaki - U.S.A - $288,750
    3rd: Justin Saliba ‘Jsaliba2’ ‘JustGTO’ - U.S.A - $192,500
    4th: John Riordan - U.S.A - $137,500
    5th: Seth Davies - U.S.A - $110,000
    🔍 Preflop:
With the blinds at 25,000/50,000, the current tournament chip leader Justin Zaki raises to 175,000 with 54 of clubs. Jonathan Little defends the big blind with A5 of diamonds, and they head to the flop in a battle of the blinds.
    💸 Flop - Kd Qc 7c:
Zaki continuation bets 135,000 after flopping a five-high flush draw and a backdoor straight draw. Little completely misses the flop and is left with just ace-high. However, he does have the backdoor nut flush and some backdoor straight draws. He calls, and they head to the turn.
    💣 Turn - 4d:
The 4 of diamonds on the turn propels Zaki into the lead with bottom pair to accompany his flush draw. He bets again, this time for 280,000. Little puts in the call as he has now picked up the backdoor nut flush draw and his ace high could still be winning.
    🌊 River - Ah:
Both players brick their flush draws on the A of hearts river. Zaki is left with just bottom pair and seems to not think it will be good at showdown as he now turns his hand into a bluff and fires a final bullet of 740,000. He decides to pile on some ICM pressure on Little, who started the hand second in chips. Little improved to top pair on the river, but if he calls and is wrong he will become the tournament short stack with just four players remaining in this PokerGo Cup Grand Finale. Can he figure out this bluff, or will the chip leader bully him out of the pot? Stay tuned for this entire poker video to find out.
Jonathan Little analyzes live poker hands from TV poker shows such as Poker After Dark, Hustler Casino Live, The Lodge Poker Club & PokerGO. He also analyzes popular poker vloggers such as Rampage Poker, Brad Owen, Jaman Burton, Ashley Sleeth, Wolfgang Poker and others!

At nineteen I used to drive an older man to a game every Saturday and the drive him home after. The game started at noon. The host cooked steaks for lunch and I got to eat one. The cook used to give me a hard time calling me a sweater not a player. One day there was a seat open when the game started. The way the game was run is that chips were sold. There was no rake. 10% fee on the first buy in and 5% on other buying. Everyone bought $100 for their first buying and just basically threw them in the pot on the first hand and then bought a $1,000 or more on the second. Not wanting to be considered a sweater any longer I wrote a check for $100 and got $90 of chips.

One and a half hours later, after winning a few small pots and building a decent stack. I cashed out $3,750 . This was in the late 70's in Victoria Texas. The big hand was I flopped 4 Queens and bet 100. Called by 2. Turn I bet 300 called by 2. River I bet $1,000 called by 1. Man who folded was the man I drove out to the game and he said if a heart hits the river he gets me too.

These were oil men and car dealers and such during an oil boom in Texas. The man who called the $1,000 on the river lost $50,00 that night and had a good time. He owned 3 drilling rigs making about $150k a day back then.

torn between river decision check (give up) v all-in. I think we have some showdown with our 4, but it's not likely to win. The ace is a really good card for us as the pfr since we have all the AK AQ or even AJ AT clubs. It would make sense to jam with any of those hands and it balances our whiffs (J9cc, JJ, TT, diamonds, other random clubs, middle pps)

  • @davids4063
    @davids4063 27 дней назад

    Interesting analysis.
Actually I like the 740 size.
On river to call a big bet (740 or allin) , you gonna need an A or better, and your range is basically Kx, Ax FD, Qx, and JT and some other FD combos that missed. You are calling Ax+ VRs 740 or allin here, and folding worse for 740 too. Allin is unnecessary risk.
This board favors him but you have the nut advantage here simply because you call bets with a narrower range than he can barrel with, so by continuing to bet he’s got to have fewer bluffs.

I guess I am wrong, but 440k river bet seems more natural to me, as his value bets and bluffs want to be the same sizes. Flushes didn't get there. So what is he trying to get value from? Can those hands call an all-in? So I guess even not worth bluffing at all.

This was a great FT to watch! I want to know if you can still find the call if he does jam! Also, I want to talk about the turn bet. I think I would’ve liked to see something like 550k-600k. That’s just me. Double flush draw with multiple straight draws but no made draw is usually the time to go big. Ofc on FT you’re probably not overbetting much? Actually I would love some content about ICM postflop! Eh??

I’m sorry, I have to call BS on this. And I’m a premium member of the poker coaching website. I know it’s a lot to ask, and it may not be practical, but I would like to see this kind of video of what the player or players are thinking after each betting round.
The after the fact analysis takes in account the outcome of the hand. That will absolutely change the strategy thinking of the player after the fact because they would subconsciously be trying to justify their play.
I’m not saying Jonathan would be lying here. I’m just saying that he could be lying and we wouldn’t know. That clouds the veracity of the situation that he is describing.
I say that because almost every account of poker hands that are told, “after the fact” are told with the best possible light being shed on the teller.
It’s different than sports where it’s a split second for a decision to be made. You can usually take those accounts as facts because there was no time to think. But with poker, you get a lot of time to think and choose your play.
I just wish there was some way to get the thinking of the player in real time instead of days or weeks or even months after the fact.

But Jonathan might fold K with a weak kicker or a Q etc. Me personally I probably don't bluff on the river, I have a hard time turning pairs into bluffs. My knee jerk reaction is I'm hoping for showdown value. If I show up with 5 high there I'm going all in if I bet flop and turn. Let's say I was on a draw. And I probably wouldn't give much thought to wether I was telling a believable story. I'm a simple man🥺🥺🥺
