This concert was amazing on several levels: It was the last tour where Freddie performed live (he was diagnosed the following year), and besides a couple of smaller shows in England, they sold out Wembley on back-to-back nights and since Wembley was booked after those shows, ended up doing another show at Knebworth a few weeks later in front of between 120-150,000 (which was Freddie's last live performance with Queen -- they still did a couple of more albums). The show was also noteworthy in that they did a song from every album they had released to that point, so you get a little of everything.

In my opinion, Queen is the G.O.A.T. Nobody can even come close to them. I have always loved his saying, "Not bad for 4 aging queens". You should watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Loved the reaction. Thank you bbbfst.

For years I believed that their Live Aid performance was uniquely special. However, the more videos I watched of them over the years it slowly dawned on me that the Live Aid performance was special FOR US, the fans; perhaps because it was the first time many of us saw Queen live. But for Queen it wasn't a unique performance at all. It was just them being them, but now in front of a worldwide audience.

    • @LMTino

Queen was better poised for success at Live Aid - it had a wealth of arenas shows behind them to draw upon. They crafted, rehearsed and put a tight set together...even factoring in testing their equipment seconds before Freddie hits the first key on the piano so all were on the same page. Pros.

    • @hackapump
      @hackapump Год назад +4

You’re quite right. Queen had perfected their arena game touring South American soccer stadiums. They had a leg up on their peers during Live Aid: They were the only ones used to that size of crowd, and not the least: Freddie was the only one used to connecting and communicating with such a huge audience. Which is why their performance went straight through the tv screen.

Yea many seem to think Freddie at live aid was some sort of new act or something. They had it from the beginning.

Too fun. Great performance from them all. They worked hard to put on a great show yet they weren’t choreographed. Even the songs themselves could vary a lot from show to show.

Love love love you queen reactions. I stumbled upon Queen when I was 15 years old when I was at Live Aid in 1985 and was hooked ever since. We actually didn't know if Queen were to headline and we all went crazy when they came on and it was all everyone could talk about afterwards, how amazing they were. That was it for me and not to make you very jealous but I was actually at this concert in July 1986 (Saturday night) and there were over 72,000 of us in the crowd. It was amazing and an experience I'll never forget. I still have visions of Freddie strutting around in his whites (the band got told to wear white clothes as they will stand out hahaha). I also attended Freddie's last concert at Knebworth in August 1986 (Freddie's ever last live performance with Queen as he got diagnosed in Easter 1987). There were 150,000 of us in the crown and Queen flew in by helicopters which was visible to all of us ! I have been a Queen die hard fan ever since. You have to react to the whole concert as you couldn't possibly pick between the performances as they were all spectacular. I am now nearly 54 and have been a fan ever since. RIP my hero Freddie, you were and still are the ultimate LEGEND. Stay safe love from Manchester UK x

Fans all have their arena faves - Wembly, Montreal, Milton Keynes, the Bowl. Montreal may be his strongest vocal command, but the interaction at Wembly and Milton Keynes wins lots of love. In all settings, just like in the early days at the Rainbow, the level of musicianship partnered with entertainment is a wow factor. They are not up their playing for themselves but always you know it's audience driven.

This song was written by the bass player John Deacon. When Michael Jackson heard it he suggested it be released as a single,it became a hit in the United States. John wrote and co-wrote more songs, one of the other best ones he wrote was “You’re My Best Friend” for his wife. This song and Barcelona, a song that Freddy wrote to sing with Montserrat Caballe are two I’d love for you to listen to.

Thank you, I really love your reactions to Queen...maybe you know this already...Freddie turning his arse to the audience is a message for a man called Norman Sheffield...Norman managed them in the early days and swindled them out of a lot of money...that’s why Freddie does that as a reminder to that manager about what he lost out on as Queen became a huge success..also Freddie wrote a song about Norman Sheffield called “Death on Two Legs”...it”s here on RUclips...the lyrics of this song tell you what Freddie thought about that manager🤣😂

    • @jo_jolambrini6775

When Freddie did the "mooning" at Live Aid this was also to Norman Sheffield. The song "Death on Two Legs" is about him also, which Norman Sheffield responded with a book called "Life on Two Legs". Freddie hated him with a passion, so did John who went to him for a small loan to buy his first house to which he said no to as he was taking all their money !!!!

Written by John Deacon and we now have a newly appointed Knight in the group, the official title is Dr Sir Brian Harold May CBE he's had the Dr for a while Astrophysicist and the CBE given by our late Majesty I think along with Roger some time ago, so his wife will be known as Lady May. As for concerts they changed things each night even at the same stadiums or theatres, they'd play anything from a few thousand upto 250,000 in Rio per concert and Wembley could actually fit 80,000 I know as I worked there, you have the whole football pitch and seating, plus the corporate boxes and restaurants where people would watch from, maybe take a look at something they didn't write within the concerts, a rock and roll segment where they have some fun, and yes they work as a group, nothing ends until Fred flicked his arm up, they'd all work by eye and have a chat on stage, as Fred was out in front for the majority of the concerts, he'd judge the crowd and might make something longer, shorter, possibly cut a number and put something else in, they are and were extremely inclusive with their fans. They have just released an updated version of The Miracle Album from 1988/89 with another 47 tracks, they could've just left it for the fans too buy, but they've sold it and put the album up on their own RUclips Channel for free! How many people would do that?

As great as Freddie and Queen were over the years, there's one time where the stars all align and the performance is perfect. All the greats have them that etch them into immortality. This was the one for Queen. And sadly, Freddie passing away shortly after really shows this a "the performance of a lifetime". Just the way they played. No care in the world, lost in the music. Just free flowing with the energy.

P.S. If you do decide to watch Queen's Live Aid performance, be careful not to get the version where the end of set, We Are The Champions, has an abrupt cut to them taking a bow. It has millions of views and usually comes up at the top of the search cue so be careful. It's quite a jolt to watch all the way through and to have the end cut off. Instead look for uploads by Simo Fil or Dany Fil.

Queen never split up they all agreed to take a break because they had toured the world nonstop for like 15 years straight. Dying that time yes a few members had solo careers but the band never split. The band did and has stayed together to this day even though members have passed over the years they passed away a member of the queen beloved by their bandmates who see them as family. To this day Freddie is and always be the lead singer of Queen although Adam Lambart sings he isn't a member of the band they are called Queen Ft Adam Lambert

I went to this concert. I was 20 years old. I wasn't a huge Queen fan before the gig but it's now 2023 and I can confidently say it was the best concert I've seen. Brian's guitar solo was mesmerising &, of course, Freddie had the audience in the palm of his hand.
Did you guys know that Brian May made that guitar with his dad when he was a teenager? The wood came from a 100-year-old old fireplace. He filled the woodworm holes with matchsticks. The inlays are pearl buttons, the whammy bar is modified knife & motorbike valve springs. He modified the pickups with epoxy to reduce feedback and white noise.
He's also an astrophysicist and he's consulted with NASA on the New Horizons probe. The guy is a freak of nature! he's also the nicest man you could ever wish to meet.

Wembley is famous because it was close-to-the-last concert that Freddie ever performed and it was (Thankfully!) filmed to sell on-video. There were other concerts with much BIGGER audiences before this (in South America… just the previous year, they played to an audience of AT LEAST 250,000.)
And, there are earlier concerts (up-to-and-including Milton Keynes Bowl in 1982) where Freddie was actually much MORE “in his prime” vocally (because by 1986, Fred was being secretly impacted by HIV-related issues). And… although it’s true that Wembley’s capacity was about 70,000… Milton Keynes was actually about 65,000… and Queen’s last-ever concert at Knebworth Park was AT LEAST 120,000.

Queen’s LARGEST audiences were actually in places like South America, w attendance of around 300,000. (Whereas Wembley “only” held about 78,000).
Wembley IS fantastic… I think its fame, tho, comes from the fact it was filmed for release on video. (Also the fact that it was one of the LAST-ever live Queen concerts; they only did two more after Wembley.) The same is true of their well-known 1981 Montreal concert, it’s popular for its video quality. (It was filmed in 35 mm.)
Personally, my FAVORITE concert is at MILTON KEYNES BOWL in 1982… Freddie at his all-time PEAK vocally!

This was at Wembley stadium exactly one year after Live Aid. The remaining band members describe the three nights as "perfect". Freddie's last live show

The Wembley Stafium doesn’t hold that many people. Queen’s largest concerts were in mid-January 1985, in Brazil, where its estimated that between 250K and 500K people attended.

This was a fantastic concert but there were many excellent and popular full concerts. Queenies tend to pick the best moments and performances for each of their favorite songs and concerts, ie. Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974; White Queen live at Hammersmith 1975; Sombody to Love live at Montreal 81, Under Pressure live at Wembley 1986; Who Wants To Live Forever live at Budapest 1986, etc. Their 20 min set at Live Aid 1975 is largely considered their best performance ever and considered not just the best Queen performance but the best live rock performance ever by any band still to this day. They reportedly had a television viewing audience of 1.9 billion...with a B. I thought you had reacted to it but I don't see it on your list. That Live Aid performance is a must see. Everyone should see it at least once. It's just that good! Everything is on point and the crowd is 100% in sync with them. If you watch it, do yourself a favor and watch it in one setting. Don't split it up. You need to watch it as if you were there live. Just let yourself be there in the moment. Take it all in and let yourself feel the vibe. This was a charity concert for famine in Africa. Everyone who was anyone, with few exceptions, performed that day but it was agreed by all that Queen stole the show. Keep in mind each performer only had about 20 min. There were stop lights at the front of the stage. When the light turned red, they were told the power would go off. Watch for the lights on the stage toward the end and watch how close they timed it.
