Hey Ted, would it be possible to demonstrate the X2D for walk-around travel and street photography, including the best (2) lenses for that type of photography? I would choose a 24-70 equivalent if Hasselblad made one in the V series, as my go-to lens has been the Sony GM 24-70 on an A1 for my grab-and-go setup in most situations.

I have the X2D lightwright portrait set with the 80 mm 1.9 and until now i was pretty sure there is no better portrait lens than that.... And now this 90 mm 2.5 comes along. Happy you compared them. Even if i would ignore the possible optical improvement and fact that it's a bit less lightstrong what i will not ignore is the fact that it's half the weight of the 80 mm. And when walking around with the 80 mm for a day then that 500 gram less weight is a huge bonus. See if i can make a good deal in selling the 80 mm and invest in this lens...
Thanks for this review! I agree on one aspect in peticular... The quality this camera delivers is out of this world.

I bought mine 7-8 months ago with the 45mm lens as there simply weren’t any other lenses available. Life intervened and I never got around to even opening the boxes. Surprised to finally see these new system lenses arrive, hopefully I can find one in stock this time and perhaps finally get to use the camera.

Also, if you have an opinion on editing in Phocus vs. Lightroom, that would be much appreciated. I am thinking about investing into this system but I would have to leave my Capture One Workflow behind.

Thanks Ted for the good review and I’m about this far away from pulling trigger on the system. One thing that I don’t know about the X2D system is what flash triggers does it use for the standard third-party flash and strobe units out there? For instance, Westcott, Godox , etc?

In my opinion, the best thing about the Hasselblad X2D (and Fuji GFX for that matter) is that you can use some bokehlicious "full frame" portrait lenses on them and push the limits of how the lenses render images. Just buy a cheap adapter and a Contax Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 or the legendary Biotar 75/1.5 and they are just blowing everything away for portraits.

Don't you have to rely on electronic shutter on the Hasselblad? Doesn't that increase the risk of rolling shutter and banding?

    • @oliscurra
      @oliscurra Год назад

@@AllCarsUnited You're right buddy. If your subject is stationary it's ok. The IBIS in the X2D helps. Also if you switch to 14bit then the sensor readout is faster so the rolling shutter happens over a shorter period. But it's still cumbersome.

Thanks Ted for the excellent review, I am planning to get one camera but debating between Leica SL2 and Hasselblad X2D. Ask an amateur photographer my requirements are sharpest image, natural colors and fast auto focus. Can you please help me with these points:
    1. What is the difference between Hasselblad 45mm normal vs 45mm P lenses in terms of speed of auto focus and image quality only? Any one is recommended? I know there is a 0.5 f stop difference. I have seen the same thing in Leica same 35/50mm lenses one in hundreds and the other in thousands.
    2. If I have to get a UV filter to protect a lens, does it need to be very expensive one?
    3. Does X2d camera purchase provide any free photo editing S/W?
    4. What is your take on overall image quality and speed of auto focus per Leica SL2 and Hasselblad X2D - 100C? Which one you recommend?
    Thanks for your help

I prefer to shoot with the EVF but I don’t like using the EVF for menu purposes. However if you set the camera to ’EVF Only’ the rear screen shows nothing until you set it back. It’s a bit irritating having the screen on all the time.

Interesting commentary on this awesome lens as always, Ted! In your opinion, if you were a 100% stills only, landscape, and small product photographer, which MF system do you think would work best (Hasselblad X2D or Fujifilm GFX 100 II), including evaluating lens sharpness and detail rendition, assuming one shoots 100% tripod-mounted, and 10 second self timer for optimum sharpness? (For wildlife. I use a Nikon Z8 with the NIkkor Z 180-600 f/5.6-6.3, so I'm not necessarily seeking "speed" in a potential MF System.) Thank you!

Very interesting. I normally shoot sports and wildlife but am looking at the Hasselblad as the tool I will use when I just want to create photographic art, no matter the subject. Your comments on the X2D in this regard resonated with me. In fact, it remined me of Clarkson on Top Gear when he said his favorite muscle car was the Corvette even though technically it was inferior to its European counterparts; driving it was inspiring. I'm still in learning mode and your videos help. Is there a good Hasselblad user forum where I can listen in on users' experiences before I pull the trigger?

Nice review. Certainly on my (Lotto) wish list. I find it very interesting that the focal lengths, or should I say, angle of view, is very close to a certain trio of small, fast, beautifully made primes for a certain manufacturer that is not one of the big boys now, and that is Pentax! The 31mm, 43mm and 77mm Limiteds. With the 'Blad V lenses and multiply by 0.8 for 35mm equivalence, and you get 30.4mm for the 38mm, 44mm for the 55mm and 72mm for the 90mm. Really close to be honest. I shall call them the MF Limiteds as they are also small light (for MF) and produce beautiful images, just like the Pentax trio. :-) Now just to find the cash to buy an X2D and the three V lenses.

Not to humiliate them, antagonize them or make them switch brands but to help them have faith in human capabilities: if we work and learn we are able to accomplish wonders. I am sure many of them, as we all do, put imaginary fences around what we can achieve.

Beautiful Hasselblad colors and great optical performance with a sweet rendering and nice sharpness! The rendering looks like that of the new Nikon 135mm f1.8 S, which is the best possible compliment. The image quality is outstanding, but still significantly behind the more pricey Phaseone and just equivalent to that of the Fuji GFX-100II.
Now, there are some significant issues in my book:
    - the fact that it takes one year after announcement to release such a critical lens is the only proof needed that the X2D is at best targeting wealthy amateurs. In the meantime photographers needing reliable and available solutions are working with Sony, Nikon, Fuji or Canon,
    - On this lens the problem of the oof highlights remains, they still look octogonal which I find very disturbing, cat eyes are very visible as well,
    - And really, face AF end 2023 without eye recognition?

“Super lightweight”? Ha, ha, ha! This camera has the size and weight of a brick. It is totally unacceptable for street photography. It is marginal for usage without a tripod. Technically the camera is great, but it’s best used in a studio or on a strong tripod.

Louis Mendes and Vivian Maier both used heavier setups, their street photography is OK.

@@DanielKennedyaeos Actually neither of them used a camera as heavy or large as this one. This will never be a street camera.
