I watched the whole 2 hours and 16 minutes. Enjoyed everything eventually .
This was exactly what I needed tonight. Your tree skills become all the more apparent when I attempt my own. I enjoyed this very much, indeed. Excellent example of foreshortening, which I really needed. All the textures and contrast you achieved, was something I needed to see you do (yet again). A fantastic tree!!
Thank you as always, Professor Sludge!
I love this old tree. It has character and looks as though it is very old. I enjoyed watching the whole process, seeing how you developed it. Entranced, not at all bored. ❤
dope tree, love the brushwork. Thanks for this.
Loving this, always enjoy trees in life
" Tree portrait ", excellent.
I, too, like the scrubbing sound of the brush on the canvas, I love the smell of the oils, I love oil painting. 😊
this is a fabulous piece of work. it reminds me of a painting a had years ago that was painted in a magical realist style.
I love drawing trees . love your beg tree to 💙🐦🥀🤍
Can't wait to see how the glazing turns out. Wonderful teaching, thank you ❤
Beautiful work
Love your grass. Thanks for the interesting lesson .
I love this! I await the class you talked about. This is definitely evoking Andrew Wyeth- I have always loved his work and also having a resurgence of admiration the more I get to see- thanks to the internet.
Love your work- thank you for another great video!
Love this
I find myself yelling at the screen, “Leave it! Leave it! Don’t touch it” I always have to resist messing with a successful accident.
😂😂😂😂 me too!!!
"Just a question of putting the marks in the right place." Sage advice. (Actually, that was MY question!)
I really enjoy watching you paint, it's amazing how you transfer gobs of paint into something amazing. For my likes, it seems the front of the tree is too white. Not saying it's wrong, i liked it when there was darker area's making it look more narley..
A long one indeed , but learnt soooooo much
A Beautiful Painting once again Stuart- Your work takes me to places along the likes of Dulac and Rackham. You mentioned Disney..- have you seen "four artists paint one tree"?
Thank you for your knowledge and fun videos. May I know what type of paper towel you use?
Thank you! The paper I use is made by 'APTA', but any paper that's not too fluffy will do.
@@StuartDavies Thank you for your reply
Will you put in a sky when you glaze?
Yes, and it will be a very simple sky. Probably just a tone.
Tree is beautiful but I was afraid u were going to b left with an antelope with 2 horns before u put that dark part on the front branch!
Everyone should take up painting. It’s more than visual art, it’s therapy.
Thanks for taking my mind off everyday problems...
I hoped for this . I even had a dream I would one day see such an amazing video . Your patience and great work is absolutely exceptional Stuart. I will watch it again. Never do I stop watching until the painting is finished. Thankyou so so much.
Your Videos should be have alot more Views .at least 100k ! You are a great inspiration Sir. Thank you
I've been painting in oils for nearly 25 years and I've learnt stuff from watching this video. Very much enjoyed watching the painting develop and the dry humour in the narration. Another great video - you should be on the television.
Painting is a very therapeutic exercise ... Just pick your brush up and let go ... Breath in and let go ... Have fun !!!
Fairbanks Alaska, (temperature -34 F,) timeline 2:00:29, I’m still avidly watching. Thank you for your contributions to the arts! You’re appreciated and I am grateful.
Love the idea of learning to paint as a year’s resolution. Please keep us posted. I would like to join that group.
I'll rewatch in the morning. You always put me to sleep. Please take that as a compliment. So relaxing
I'I'm still watching!!!
Watching till the end . Amazing job !!
Love all your videos. You helped me tremendously, thank you
I'm learning so much from watching this video for the second time. Thank you for giving up your time to teach us. I love the way this big ancient tree is growing as I watch you paint...
Absoutely brilliant. I love the details you achieve with paper, this video showed your skill to the MAX. Need to paint again. Thank you
I thought that was real.. Good job!❤😂🎉
I love this tree! What a wonderful patina for my use!
This is actually a VERY amazing lesson! Thank You!
Looks.great.i.liked.very much.good.job
You took a seed, planted it, and it grew into a gnarled giant. Beautiful.
So relaxing watching you paint, Stuart.
Brilliant I can't wait to see how it turns out after glazing
Absolutely wonderful Stuart, I thoroughly enjoyed this one, thank you.
I am 52 minutes in and you have inspired me so much. I paused 5 times just in my house cleaning things and my pondering about life in detail. Life a tree I find myself telling myself again to just stand firm and still letting the wind blow through me like leaves on a tree, knowing where my roots are and travel to water in my soul. I’ve learned about my journey in life and in painting. Thankful for you in so many levels in my Spirit. Call it the Holy Spirit or just another human being connection that I personally needed today. Many may just watch and listen but I tend to feel in my inner soul. God bless you🙏🏻💜
I could Not Go to sleep, it’s now 2:25 am middle of the night in Germany, it’s so interesting and I enjoyed this Video so much, loving just to watch and lern from Stuart. Thank you so much.
I did the same things are so damn interesting in my n his eye can’t stop watching 🆙
Amazing! I love how your advice often is "don't trust your lying eyes" and paint they way something is in mood and tone. So much learning is unlearning and learning to see nature again, in a more interesting and varied way. Every video of yours is always educational.
Absolutamente emocionante. Su manera de pintar es extraordinaria. Thanks.
THE HIDDEN WONDER OF TREES REVEALED
Certainly “sub app”
(spontaneous use [of] brush and paper-pushing).
And lol = Lumps of light.

A bientôt
Since toy asked;
"Let Her Rip" - Meaning and Origin Meaning: If someone says “let her rip,” it usually means to go faster, to speed up. The “her” in this case typically refers to a vehicle, like a boat or car. This phrase can also mean “go ahead,” as in someone is given permission to do something.
50:18 longer videos like this is great
- you can create a shorter version and or time lapse of the long ones as well-
(Have a look at Art of John Magne Lisandro) his shorter version of full tutorials- it’s the right speed- music - that’s captivating- just an idea- BTW I suggested this to John years ago-
The shorter time lapse are mesmerizing and for those on the go-
Amazing how you sculpted that trunk- it magically came to realistic life with texture- the shadows- bark etc !
I sometimes drop off after 50 minutes or so. And watch the rest later. But i always want to see the whole video. I even like the music. So when there is music playing at the end of the video and wil let the video go all the way to the end even if there is no more visual. So i like it when the videos are longer. But youtube wil see it as me dropping out after 50 minutes but i have seen the whole vide3o. Hope it wil ease your mind thinking a lot of people dont have the interest in your videos to watch until the end. It is not 100%
So now i am watching furder again after a good night sleep and a whole days work :) I just wanted to place this comment bevore i forget wat i want to say.
I'm partial to long videos. Yours are relaxing and inspiring. They make me want to try oils. Could happen.
As an autistic Person, it definitely sounds like you may be on the spectrum, between what you said in this video and what you said about having a photographic memory in another video I watched you do, so 🎉 congratulations! Welcome! 🎉
I don't get it.
This guy daubs paint on a canvas, one colour, one brush, and immediately he's got rolling hills and trees.
When I do that, I have paint daubed on a canvas that I've just ruined.
Time has no meaning as I watch the tree appear on the background. That's what I have had such trepidation in transferring from my mind to my canvas. Once again, my thanks.
If you could record a video of painting the tree at the beginning, it can be awesome! (The one with leaves)
Love the process and the colors...but it looks as though you overlooked that knot hole? What the heck? Looks like it was filled with concrete...
absolutely stunning tree painting stuart what a talented gentleman you are wonderful 😃
Entschuldigung .🌹...🖼🎨🖼...🌹
The value of your teaching is worth the video length. Thank you for sharing your experience
Thank you very much for another outstanding lesson on painting. This tree is magnificent and your teaching style is involving, clear and captivating. It's always astonishing how you can add expressive marks to the picture with just a few movements. Of course, this is all due to your talent and experience.
I've always been keen on visual arts, and with your encouragemnt, I'm trying my hand at using brushes and paints.
I keep repeating to myself:
1. "Think that you can do it"
2. "Don't think "clouds", their are just shapes"
3. "If it goes wrong, wipe it and try again"
4. "It's just a paintig"
and thanks to you I'm having a lot of fun.
In my opinion the longer the videos the more I learn. It's always entertaining to listen to your explanations and anecdotes. I can't wait to see the glazing session.
You got em down nice placement of thoughts thanks I just read your post
I thoroughly enjoyed this over a couple of sessions. I love the longer videos where I can get totally immersed in the process. Thanks again.
I'm so happy to see more trees!
I have missed your content. I quickly discovered oil paintng is just too expensive of a hobby for my budget. ...for now. While I'm waiting for my bestseller to magically appear I can still enjoy your videos.
This is my favorite of all the trees I have seen painted. I wanted it badly but that did not happen.😊
Thanks a lot. I learned many things. You are really a master. Hope to learn more from you.
I agree about this watching the whole thing, since I get a feeling of missing the point of it all...
You made an old tree look majestic. Yes looks like an ancient olive or (Carob) tree.
How do you prepare the canvas before you start painting??
Incredible technique!!! I am inspired! ❤️🇨🇦
Happy New Year Stuart! Wonderful presentation as ever. Thank you, appreciated.
May I ask what brand do you use? At the moment I'm using Windsor & Newton.
Happy New Year! I use Lefanc & Bourgeois.
You’ve done a phenomenal job on this tree. ❤️🥰
Watching you paint is a pleasure and I learn lots! NV
Thank you saved my day … been fighting covid a mild version got my shot 8th of desember. Did not work but I think Im pulling through This old tree is so fantiastik and thank you fore the last toutch rhe shadow in the former aye. Greetings from Reykjavik Iceland. Magnea.
Long video, short comment……..WOW. Farley
I watch you all the way through, but not necessarily in one go
Pareidolia is the human tendency to see familiar shapes in otherwise random patterns, just like the eye in your tree, bunny rabbits or wizards in clouds and so on. It's good to see another Davies tree; I'm always in awe of your patience in getting them to look 'right'. (but I still love your skies - and I am getting better at them!)
ha ha ha more PG than the dealers... I love your jokes!
A question, but first, some flattery: you are my favorite artist and I can't wait to start oil painting to practice what you teach. Now, do you know if safflower oil could substitute for linseed as a thinner, as I want to use it to clean brushes and not have to purchase both? Thank you for your time and your wonderful art!
Thank you! Linseed and Safflower are for mixing with paint, not for cleaning brushes. To avoid turpentine just use detergent.
I recently discovered you while trying to figure out my art style. And the timing couldn't be more perfect. Your work resonates with me. I enjoy the long videos, as well as your wit & tone of voice. It makes your videos all the more calming & enjoyable to watch. I click the "Like" button before even finishing the video.
Awesome! Thank you!
If I could afford this, I want it! Let me know!
What type of board do you prefer to use for your paintings?
I am sure there is more to this than meets the eye but it is so inviting!
Hi Stuart I know the canvasses are very often sold as “Pre gesso’d canvas” but do you add a coat of gesso before painting.
If it looks a bit thin, yes. Normally they are ready to use.
I love it but too detailed on roots
I’m loving it right to the end ❤️🤗
What type of bristle brushes do you use. ?
How much linseed oil do you add to the paints?
I am really excited to see what you are going to do with the glazing? Have you posted the glazing part of the video yet?
It will be a couple of weeks. The paint has to dry first.
Stayed to the end. Will you share the glazing process with us also?
Yes I will
Hello Stuart, Amazing video. Wanted to know what are you using to thin the paint? Or you are using paint directly from the tube. Also will payne grey from any brand will work? Because I can't get Lefranc one in India.
I use linseed oil to dilute the paint. I think any brand of Paynes grey will be ok.
Thank you for the reply.
Don't worry about video length for an unknown audience. Paint what you decide without apology. Viewers can each decide how they watch - live or later to pause or skip ahead or bookmark for another day or rewatch from the 22 minute mark. You give a good range of information regarding paint application techniques, art theory, thought processes, guidance with explanations, positive & negative suggestions, and always encouragement to try it for ourselves... Aside from these mainly verbal contributions, the most important feature is being able to see what you are doing or refering to. Keep up all your efforts. Your painting process is fascinating.
stunning....a masterclass in tone
The black streaks are fantastic
I have just started doing my first acrylic painting and your videos helped me a lot. It's not only your step by step guide but also your words of encouragement that makes us feel that we can do better with our interest in painting. Thank you so much and more power.
I prefer long I think but I have to confess I am guilty of maybe not even clicking off but turning off and going to be a tree painting master. Your methods are amazing. Your enunciation (if that's the word) of what's going on in your head is very engaging. I think anyone who paints watching this has felt the pain of some of these simple decisions that you clearly have as well and brush it aside like a master.
You worry far too much about being in the way. You do you. I think if we all could get a Christmas wish is for you to do what I'm sure is the last thing thing you want to do. Set up a few cameras with proper lighting and have an editor do the work to make it pretty.
The work you do as I hope you know is deserving of a larger audience here.
You've inspired a new business idea for me, thank you - I'll let you know how it turns out
peace.
Good morning teacher, I hope you are well, as always, thank you for your teachings. Hugs and blessings. Greetings from Mexico
I love this technique of mastering the brush to bring such life like image to that tree, You turn your brush into a ballet dancer .Amazing work Stuart. Thank you so much for this very interesting and informative video. Jose from Melbourne Australia
Hahaha.....can I live without that brush? Love the dry humor, explained from a previous episode!
Thank you!. Will you be showing the glazing?
Yes, soon.
