i like how its straight to the point no rambling about your friend and how youve seen it done or tried it for 15 years slow talking.... blah blah blah just right to it.
I have seen many people on RUclips doing the same set up. But your one of the first I actually seen doing it correctly. A big mistake allot of people make when the put the backing and fly line on, they take it off the top of the spool. It’s should always be bottom to bottom. Good job brother. The line always gets spooled on from the bottom of the reel so it needs to come off the bottom of the spool. Believe it or not. 4” crane wire have the same principle. 👍🏻
Fantastic video, me and my teenage son went through it step by step and was so well explained. Looking forward to getting out this weekend to start our fly fishing adventure. Many Thanks!
No friends here, So...I asked my wife to help me. Now I can't go fishing because my back is out. Thanks Trident! PS...I really need a more comfortable couch.
The 'backing' will hold up as long as your connection to your fly line is solid and you are using the appropriate strength backing for the type of fishing you're doing.
Way to make a person feel inadequate just because my line doesn't come with a welded knot. My lesson ended at 4:19 in and all I have is backing on my reel. Not even a link to the other video.
For one, the manufacturer doesn’t know what size reel you’re going to put this on. But also your expensive fly line is fully sealed. Why penetrate that coating with some cheap ass Dacron backing?
My brother got me Sage a fly rod kit for Christmas... I messed up putting the line on the reel, knotted it all up, and had to cut the line off the reel... went down to the shop the rod was bought at and they said $100-$120 for new line and for them to spool it correctly on the reel... I started laughing and walked out... said I don't wanna try fishing that bad if fishing line is $100+ a pop... pretty sure I offended them but the feeling is mutual... 😂 Anyone wanna buy a brand new, never used, Sage fishing rod kit, minus the line? If the line was $100, it must be an expensive kit! Haha
@@toadamine It’s a shop. The we’re trying to sell you the most expensive fly line they had. $120 is high-end fly line. You can get fishing with $40 line just fine. Yeah, fly line is expensive but you don’t need the most expensive spool in the shop. For what it’s worth, I work in a fairly large family owned outdoor store and almost nobody buys the super expensive stuff. Having said that, as a retail associate, the employee probably seen that you had a Sage and made some incorrect assumptions about your budget. No matter the customer, my first question is always “do you have a budget you’d like to stay under?”. It sets the pace for the rest of the sale. I’m glad to hear that you got set up for a decent price somewhere else!
The thumb nail photo shows the fly line not being on a plastic spool , my Cortland fly line didn’t have the plastic spool if you put it on a stick through the middle it jams up , 🫲🏼😳🫱🏼
If you don't have a spindle that fits through the fly line spool, you can simply leave the spool on the floor while you wind the line onto your reel. It's not the most ideal situation but I've done it hundreds of times and it works in a pinch. The fly line spool just spins and dances around the floor as you wind.
It's nice to hear someone is actually FOR loops on both ends of the fly line. Great content as usual!
Thanks for watching!

Great video. No rambling about useless junk, just straight knowledge

One of the best, if not the best videos on this topic. Very clear, concise and the little video diagrams also helped. Brilliant, thanks!
Not me holding the backing with my toes because I have no friends
Same bro
Literally most of us 😂

Maybe for the best. His friend is kind of scary.
Very clear and concise explanations and demonstrations. It was the best that I found on this subject. Thank you

This was a superb video for myself. I learned new knots and most importantly lining a new reel. Thank you 👍🏼
A little late to the party but exactly what I was looking for. Cool
Easy peasy. Thanks for the walk through. Saved me some money doing this myself.
Great video i learned alot here very well explained
This was exactly what I needed .
Nice explanation...especially the part where reeling fly line from bottom of spool onto the bottom of the reel to prevent tangling. Thanks!
Great for someone who doesn't know. Thank you.
Great video thanks 😊
Really great video thanks
Thanks for sharing. It was very well explained.
Excellent, thank you!
Thank you for the video! Well done

Thanks for the solo friendless version
Thanks Ben, ;-)
Please blink
I’m dead 💀
Hello Ben so what is the purpose of a Tippet ??
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom
We develop needle roller clutch, which widely used in fly reels.
Hi I love your instruction. I am a complete beginner. Is there a video/ instructions about how long should I setup these Leader line and tippets line?
Damn. I was hoping to get some insight but i don’t have a friend to use.
Blessings bro and thanks alot
Would you ever do a video on how to setup a spey rod for Salmon?
The sneak diss at the beginning lmao
No friends here, So...I asked my wife to help me. Now I can't go fishing because my back is out. Thanks Trident! PS...I really need a more comfortable couch.
I’m just getting into fly fishing. Will the “backend” line hold up if I hook into a big fish??
The 'backing' will hold up as long as your connection to your fly line is solid and you are using the appropriate strength backing for the type of fishing you're doing.
Okay after your leader is it okay to put a dry fly on, or do I have to attach a tippet as well?
You can put a fly straight on your leader, tippet is simply used to extend your leader as it gets shorter over time
Which reels are shown in this video?
I love you.
What is the other line called that doesn’t float I have seen people use …. I don’t know anything about fly fishing I’m new
Is there any sight out there that doesn't have pre-looped lines?? Ty my fly line to my leader with actual knot and and leader to the tippet??
Like he said don’t use that
I had mine on upside down 💀
do we need sinker in fly fishing ???anyone please explain
For subsurface fishing like nymphing or streamers, you can use weights/split shot.
Wouldn't you think it's important to tell someone to run them braided line through the front of the fly reel if it's a Pflueger medalist type?
Way to make a person feel inadequate just because my line doesn't come with a welded knot. My lesson ended at 4:19 in and all I have is backing on my reel. Not even a link to the other video.
No friend I use a book for added drag etc ...
Do you need fly line and a leader
My wife left a year ago, I have a dog to help.
Cut the loops and learn to tie the proper knots ….. if you’re in that much of a hurry to fish …… Go Back To Bait Fishing !!!!!
I think I'll just go to a fly shop and have them do it for free. Was not visually shown properly.
Why don't we have backing and fly line all in one?
For one, the manufacturer doesn’t know what size reel you’re going to put this on. But also your expensive fly line is fully sealed. Why penetrate that coating with some cheap ass Dacron backing?
Please blink .. its spooking me

Just give it back to your brother
