Fantastic! Love an old machine. Was running a GTX 580 and 3570k until recently - upgraded to an AM5 platform.

Its funny that 2 top of the line gpus from 2012 take less space than a single modern high end gpu

I had to watch the video once I saw the 800D. Mine 2nd 800D still has it's original system inside of it. Using the same AX1200i PSU shown in this video as well. In mine it's powering an OC'd i7 970 @ 4.2 w/ memory around 1700ish @ 6-8-6-24 timing (Mushkin Redline 999000) on a Asus RE3 + Danger Den mobo block. The system needs the AX1200i because it's running 3x GTX 470s OC'd to 800ish mhz on the core (about 30% if I remember correctly) so each draws like 275-300w + the CPU/Mobo/RAM along with +100 watts of fans/pump adds like 300-350w. When the case was still pretty new I cut a hole on the top so I could put a Quad 120 (480) grill mod as you can see stock it only has 3x 120mm fan mounts on the top so I could put a 480 radiator there. That radiator plus an externally mounted 360 radiator with Sycthe 3K Ultra Kaze fans allows the system to cool everything down at full load while maintaining 10C/Delta between the fluid temp and the air temp going out (if I also remember correctly). When running in games at full GPU utilization the PSU software would say I'm using approx 1150w DC before the DCAC conversion so at like 88% efficiency that's almost 1300w at the wall! Now an AMD 8600G iGPU would run circles around the whole setup. I was going to upgrade the GPUs to something like a GTX 980ti with a waterblock but at this time that card is almost "retro" so I might as well just keep the whole system together as a time capsule. The Feser One fluid & the Home Depot nylon reinforced dishwasher tubing seem to be holding up even after all these years - no mold/gunk build up & no fluid wicking through the tubing. Though it surely has a bunch of metal particles suspended in the fluid making it a bit more conductive by now but without a meter to test it I'll ignore it.

Also I watched the video until the end & the answer to that is basically definitely no. One simple reason - VRAM. You may be able to get some new titles to run on very old hardware but once you get to about 6-7 years anything older (unless it's a server class card) will easily run out of VRAM before being "useful". Some games will load but not render certain, sometimes essential elements of a game. I believe the latest Warhammer 40K doesn't render enemy hoards if there's only 2GB (or 4GB) of VRAM so you can't really progress as you the player can't kill anything.

Yeeeah, no wonder crossfire went away. They are making enough money as is and couldn't care less about pleasing the enthusiast crow in a cost effective way.

Crossfire and SLI went away because as GPUs got faster and faster the bridge started choking them and they couldnt communicate with each other fast enough
Also its a massive pain to keep support of, most of the game developers didn't support it anyway, GPUS VRAM never worked together in the first place and every frame had double the overhead

@@Mumohan_ So in essence the technology went away because it was old and not good enough (well support of this from the GPU producers feels like has an impact on this doesn`t it) and that the developers didn't support it as it wasn't representative of a large enough market share? For one or another reason it could be very representative of the current market given the support so I don't see how abandoning it currently is a viable thing given the vast amounts of slightly outdated hardware on the market.

Running two GPUs was never cost effective. It was always reserved for the rich. That second GPU was never utilized that well and was probably sitting at sub 50% util 99% of the time. You'd be lucky to get 20% improvment in FPS running SLI...

@@namecannotbeblank8920 20%? not according to this video and while it might not be electricity consumption efficient and while the second card was not always utilized that was also due to that not being necessary due to not having that demanding software at certain critical points were decisions were made about crf and sli. Nowadays it would definitely serve a purpose.

I'd sell the 3060 save up equal amount of money and buy a 3090 and get the same effect. Oh wait I did do that xD
